There was some discussion recently about Medicare and related plans. I just got a statement from my supplemental plan that covers a CT scan(throat to pelvis), bone marrow biopsy, blood draw and a couple of doctor's visits. MSRP $24,451, Medicare Billed $3,835, Medicare paid $3,068, Supplemental plan covered the remaining $767.
Hmm, interesting. Who is paying the difference? I am in a similar situation, Medicare Parts A, B, C and D pay for practically all of my hospital and doctor expenses but they zap you on the prescription drug deductible portion. What is the point of having Medicare Part D (prescription drugs) if the deductible per prescription averages about $30. With 8 or more drugs, that adds up to quite a bit of money. By the way, I Just received my first set of bills for my first month's Myeloma treatment and it adds up to more than 20 pages and thousands of dollars. Ouch!
What I hate, is what appears to be unnecessary tests and consultations with specialist. Obviously, this inflates the bill as all these people have to be paid and rather handsomely. Thank Goodness, Medicare tries to keep those runaway prices in check, but those costs are usually recovered through supplementary coverage through Medicare Part C. And of course, Medicare Part C insurance is an out-of-pocket cost for most unless it is subsidized by a union or former employer. Sorry, for my poor Medicare Part C explanation. I tried my best.
The unnecessary tests and consultations are known as defensive medicine. Doctors perform these tests as a "cover all the bases" philosophy in a attempt to ward off or defend against medical malpractice lawsuits.

I watch them often when they are doing houses nearby and I’m walking by. I think they are nuts just being up there. And rarely if ever see any safety gear
These guys took down the two fake dormers on the roof.....they pulled and pried and I didn't want to watch because I don't know how they maintained their balance once they had these chunks of wood in their hands. Then they carried them over peaks and valleys over to the side to throw into a dump truck, it was a thick piece about 6 ft long, with another big awkward piece still nailed on at right angles. One wrong move and they would slide off the roof. Job not done yet, another 90F day and rain, so they didn't come. The house looks neater and much better without the 2 fake dormers. One neighbor knew they were hand nailing....he heard the hammers instead of the air nailer......it seems people who know fine craftsmanship understand that hand nailing is an art, only done by the highly skilled.
Maybe they are able to stay on the roof is because one of their former jobs were circus acrobats.

the door we ordered way back in October is finally being installed. Looks like someone goofed the measurements and they are going to have their work cut out for them fixing that gap up top. No idea what their plans are to match the paint. It won't be easy.
Beautiful overall look, gorgeous view outside. Again, nothing comes easy. I used to get mad when dad said that. I thought he was so negative. Now I know..

Being the curious sort, I just paid $7.99 to obtain a copy of the original Monroney window sticker for this 2013 F150 XL work truck that I recently purchased. For a really basic work truck, there are a couple of surprising options on this, which was “SPECIAL ORDER”.
$206 for a chrome grill, and $67 for a body color front fascia. Who pays extra for that on a work truck? And what exactly is “fuel gauge calibration” for $43?

Pluto, formerly the 9th. planet, was unceremoniously demoted to dwarf planet status. So the search is on for a new ninth replacement planet. 🌞
Amateurs and astronomers, said that they have mathematical evidence, that a large planet, 336 light years away and five to 10 times the mass of earth does exist. It is beyond the orbit of Neptune and such a hypothetical planet exist but its exact location defies their prediction models. And besides, it does not appear that this mystery planet revolves around the sun. In short, they cannot find it. 😄🕷
Some dubbed it the Far Far Away Planet, while others named it Planet Nine, in homage of Pluto, while Planet "X" has special appeal to sci-fi and comic book fans. In my search I can find no convincing evidence for Planet X. It all boils down to speculation and conjecture. 🦕
Well if it's 336 light years away it is defiantly not orbiting the sun. There are thousands of stars, if not tens of thousands, within 336 light years.

I have to agree, that is beautiful scenery looking out your front door. And speaking of your front door -- very nice!
My friend has a 2013 SuperCab with 2WD (rare, here), and the NA V-6. I’ve driven it a dozen times, at least. It’s no speed demon, but I like it.
That NA 3.7L V6 churns out 302 horsepower, no slouch at all. The earlier versions of the 5.4L V8, with 2 valves, only produced 230 horsepower. The later versions, 3 valve, did get up to 310. As you can see, the 3.7L compares quite nicely.

Agreed +1.....but who did the measuring? I think they were off a bit, better call in JMonroe to straighten those guys out.
The installer measured and ordered. Not my problem, as I keep telling the wife. If I wanted a headache, I’d have done it myself. I’m paying the guy, so the guy is responsible. And I won’t pay until it is totally done.

I’m beginning to think something else is at play here. Like looking for nails to finish the job. Years ago, way before airnailers, I heard of a roofer that about 50% of the time when he’d pull a nail out of his nail pouch he’d toss it to the other side of the roof. After a while the home owner asked why he was doing that. The roofer said, “oh, the points on those nails were on the wrong end so he uses those nails for the shingles on the other side of the roof”. Could it be that “your guy” is doing this?

Many city/towns use a grid system where addresses are in the same range as streets that are the next street over so to make finding addresses easier. So 414 S. Fake street is as far south as 414 S. Real street. Also some streets the house next to yours may be 4, 6. or even 8 numbers higher or lower. The street I am on they skip by 6, so my next door neighbors address is 6 higher than mine. Now my street starts off going east then turns left and goes for a while then turns left again and goes for a while then turns left and goes for a while then their is my house just before it turns right and remains straight. Now on each of those left turns there is a small cul de dac type extension of the road so that one side of the street has more homes than the other side. This means that when you get to my house the house numbers on one side of the street are off of the other side by a factor of around 20. SO one side of the street it would be 350 but across the street the address is 369.

The street I grew up on was ripe for that sort of problem, but "solved" it by numbering the "clean" side of the street every 6 (1906-1912-1918 etc) and the side with the cul-de-sacs every 4 (1903-1907-1911 etc)... so the cul de sac with 1915-1931 sat across from 1924 and 1930.
Everywhere I have lived they use the “sets of even 100s” for each block. I live in the 9700 block, the houses one block north are all 9600, and the houses one block south are all 9500. Houses on the east side of the street are all odd numbers, and on the west side, even numbers.
My house is 9711, in theory the house directly across from me should be 9712. But they are presently building two of those narrow tall houses on the one lot, and their numbers are 9718 and 9720. Go figure.
The worst case I have ever seen was just a few weeks ago, when I went to look at and purchase a used truck. I talked to the gentleman on the phone, he gave me an address, 19718 MadeUpStreetName. You have to turn off on a side street, with it’s own name, drive down a half mile or so, and then turn left on a barely paved one lane road where the side street appears to end. After another ¼ mile or so, there is a nice little area, with about 20 houses surrounding a good sized lake. The winding one lane road circles around the lake through a bunch of trees, connecting up all of the houses. And each and every one of these houses has a street address back on MadeUpStreetName, which is at least a half mile away. Weird addressing, but a pretty nice place, ducks wondering around blocking the road, lots of trees, etc.
I asked the gentleman how they wound up with addresses on MadeUpStreetName, and he had no idea. He did say it helped with his wife’s diet as there was no way in h___ to order a pizza!

On a better note, our one year sub was about up. Called to renew, expecting to get handed off a couple of times, and having to threaten to cancel. When I called to activate SiriusXM, they were quite accommodating, offering me the same deal that I had previously, $6.48 per month charged monthly. That sounds somewhat like the grid in the Spokane area, which covers a wide area - streets are usually named in relation to their location compared to other streets. For example, Broadway is 8 blocks north of Sprague, all the way from the river in the west, to the ID border in the east - spanning a few different towns. Sometimes it is a tiny patch of street that one must use a few other streets to access. This also exists for north-south streets, some of which span the entire city starting and ending outside the city limits, or going into other towns. It's actually a very easy grid to learn (I make it a point to learn the layout wherever I live, in the town where I lived as a kid, I knew every block and could tell if someone was giving a number that didn't exist), but different from other places I have lived, as only a section of the area has numbered streets, most seem to be names.
Best street-block numbers I have seen are in older areas of German towns. Odd and even sometimes on the same side of the street, sometimes not in order, as it appears the buildings were numbered in the order they were built.

They have to be more accommodating. They have tons of competition. Apple Music, Prime, Spotify, Pandora Premium and more. With cell data becoming cheaper with many people on unlimited the need/want for satellite becomes less and less.
That brings out my inner bargain hunter. I have unlimited mobile data, but I get a $10 credit every month if I use less than 2 GB. If I can get satellite for around $5/month, I am coming out ahead, with no worries about losing the credit.

Where one of my kids' lives, the address numbers are assigned by how many yards(3 feet) you are from Lake Erie.
When the tide is in or out?
The Great Lakes are considered non tidal.
No actual tides but the shoreline can vary - one way depends on the amount of water in the Great Lakes. It can also vary due to: Water levels in the Great Lakes have long-term, annual, and short-term variations. Long-term variations depend on precipitation and water storage over many years. Annual variations occur with the changing seasons. There is an annual high in the late spring and low in the winter. These changes occur at a rate that can be measured in feet per month.
Wind and weather conditions on the Great Lakes may create a seiche, an oscillating wave which can be several feet high. In many of the Great Lakes, the time period between the “high” and “low” of a seiche may be between four and seven hours. As this is very similar to the six-hour time period of the tides on the ocean, it is frequently mistaken for a tide.
So, your house number could be constantly changing
Things you discover: I’ve had a Roku TV for 3 or 4 years. I have a few paid streaming services (Prime, Apple TV+, Motor Trend) that have all disappointed to varying degrees. There are a bunch of other free channels listed but none that I found compelling. But Roku itself has a channel, or more accurately a bunch of channels that they have under the name Live TV. They have their own channel guide for these just like a cable or satellite service has. Some of them aren’t half bad. Right now I’m watching the This Old House channel, which is programmed with past episodes of TOH and Ask TOH. It isn’t on-demand; episodes are scheduled like regular TV and you can’t pick and choose. But I’ve never found TOH available except on PBS streaming or with partial segments on YouTube, so this is a nice find.

Actually the Great Lakes do have tides, it's just very small less than 5 centimeters between high and low tides. It's considered non tidal because of all the things you mention that mask/erase any tidal effect. So yes there is a tide but as I said it's considered non tidal.

Sorry, bad info on my part about the numbering and distance from Lake Erie, it's blocks from the lake.
I spent almost 2 years on the shore of Lake Erie a bit east of Cleveland. And I mean on the shore, my bunk was maybe a bit more than 100 yards away from the shoreline.

Not sure if the problem is the original opening or the new door/overhead window.

The installer measured and ordered. Not my problem, as I keep telling the wife. If I wanted a headache, I’d have done it myself. I’m paying the guy, so the guy is responsible. And I won’t pay until it is totally done.

WOW, your roof install has become quite a marathon. Guys with airnailers would have been finished by now even with your humidex thingy.

That is an easy address to remember. I told my son, a while ago, that a single digit address seems to cost more. The address of his new house they just closed on is 8.

I am often confused by addresses, though. For example, our last house was 414. I can tell you with complete certainty there weren’t even 100 house on that street.

Must be a "Trades Peoples" joke, from the Burg. I haven't seen my guys throw any nails. It is going to be 98 with the humidex, they'll work from 7 until it gets too hot for them. Promised it would be done by Friday...it is supposed to be cooler starting tomorrow....same weather system as in the NE USA.

SO one side of the street it would be 350 but across the street the address is 369.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_numbering
But he laughed and told me I would not be able to find it, so just call when I got close. Google maps claimed to know where it was, so did Waze, so I felt fairly confident. Wrong.
I could do without it, but it's in my wife's car..

So they are still a bunch of crooks, with business practices that I despise. But on the other hand, they have become a little easier to deal with. It is what it is.
Best street-block numbers I have seen are in older areas of German towns. Odd and even sometimes on the same side of the street, sometimes not in order, as it appears the buildings were numbered in the order they were built.
