Well.. I’m too cheap to buy a Tesla so it makes sense I am too cheap to buy Nest cameras!

I was in Home Depot and got sticker shock from the thermostat! At least that was a freebie!

Good for you. That has to be nice.

I’m guessing that since the previous owners didn’t want to install that thermostat in the house they sold to you they figured it made no sense packing it to take to their next house because it would only stay in the box at that house too.

I wonder how long it will take to make back the $300 cost?
It seems like something that will sell for about $60 in about a year from now.
I don’t think that the average person buying these fancy-do-dad devices really care about recovering their purchase cost in fuel savings. It’s more about having the latest technology to perform that function. Plus, the idea that the manufacturer is really selling is how this one device can have other features (cameras, microphones, Wi-Fi etc.) connected to it.

Me personally, I don’t want that but good luck trying to convince a millennial of that.

Isn’t NEST and other controls like it the ones that allow the utilities to turn down your heat remotely “for your own good”? My natural paranoia would also wonder who else gets to see through those cameras.

I wouldn’t want someone from the CIA watching me as I walked around in my underwear and laughing at my chicken legs.
Good point. I wouldn’t want the IRS to over hear my conversations with Mrs. j about how I plan to cheat on my next tax return.

These days refurb means someone returned it, sometimes because they decided they didn't want it but usually because something was wrong with it.
It is too costly to fix these and they aren't new any more so the big companies sell them off at cost or less. It takes time and a certain expertise to find and fix the problem. If it is complicated like a computer or a tablet, even TV it is hard to fix the item and then sell it for less than a new one.
I wanted to check the price of the "Renewed" Vacuum and on the Amazon site it says this item is out of stock, don't know when it will return. They only had 3 1/2 stars, so I think the have a poor record.

I have bought a few reconditioned items before and most were fine...but, I find I have a better chance of coming out ahead if I pay the extra amount and buy new when possible. Less risky, more chance of the warranty holding up, it was put together the way it should be, peace of mind, etc

I bought a rebuilt Black&Decker drill years ago and it still works fine.

Still in hospital. Can’t seem to urinate on my own. Urologist supposed to visit me to get me urinating. Definitely going to rehab located on 4th floor of this hospital.

Still have pain but not as bad as the first few days.

Hang in there my friend Mike, with a little more time the urine will start to flow -- just make sure you are properly hydrated and do your recommended doctor exercises.

Hell, when I was hospitalized in 2018 for sepsis & pneumonia with gall stones, I was hooked up to iv's all the time so couldn't stop urinating. They eventually took out my gall bladder and kept me there for 14 days. The rehab they sent me to in Tamarac was a nasty place and my kid & wife sprung me from there within 36 hours, getting home health care was the better option for me. Wished they had sent me to a better rehab facility!
It was my first hospital stay in over 30 years and hope to never go back into one ever again!

From Fox News: "Ford wants to hot-wire your car.

The automaker and Purdue University are co-developing a charging cable for use with high-power charging stations that could recharge an electric vehicle's battery in the same time it takes to fill a gas tank, which typically takes about five minutes

The cable features a unique liquid cooling system that can phase the liquid into vapor, which improves its ability to dissipate heat."

This could sway me to the EV line, especially since most of my driving is stop and go and long distance only a handful of time each year (in my car).

hmmm... is the cable really the only thing holding back the charging rate? Seems to me like everything within the car was built to a specific input/output tolerance, as well. All of those wires, as well as the batteries themselves, can only handle so much flow (I think).

I was on an Interstate in a 55 zone yesterday and almost all of the traffic was going 65-75. If someone was actually going 55, which no one (including the police car) were doing, it might possibly have been a bit dangerous.

@andres3 : What have you decided to get to replace your S4?

With the level of inflation these days, I've decided unless someone makes a good offer, I'm just going to fix it. If we don't find a suitable used motor by this Thursday, I'll ask them to have Santa bring me a new motor.

lol and you just know, something is going to hex this idea.....which is probably just a way to get research dollars.
I like how little things get mentioned after...if you use a fast charger only charge to 80% capacity as doing too much ruins the battery prematurely. I don't think you have that problem with gasoline if you put the gas in at full speed.

Speaking of inflation I am surprised to see how much drug prices have fallen. Last week I had two prescriptions for a 90 day supply filled at Walgreens for $0.48. This week, at the Hospital pharmacy, I had two more refills for $0.00. Mind you these are not generic drugs. So what gives?

Six vials of Novolog (three month supply for me) are $1580 but there is a rebate of about $1000 that the pharmacy benefit company/ insurance company gets. I’d get the “privilege” of paying $1580 so the insurance company gets $1000. What a great deal.

The same Relion Novolog made by Novolog at Walmart is about $450 for six vials. Generic Novolog is about $350 at Walgreens. Generic Humalog is about $270 at CVS. Crazy.

I sort of liked those 85 MPH speedometers. Both cars I have now have speedometers that go up to 160 MPH. So close to 50% of that speedometers is never going to have the needle over it. Seriously who can get a Sonata to 160?

A speedometer that goes up to a lower number ( say 120) tend to be easier to read simply because you're not cramming in more numbers into the same space.

I think 120 is ideal, or if they go to 160, do the 270 degree sweep that starts flat to the left, and finishes straight down. That way, 55 or 60 is straight up.

Audi a few years ago was fairly annoying with the 160 that started straight down.

that bugs me too. the part of the dial that really matters is all jammed together, and not enough room for numbers to tell you where you are at. I think it only shows 20, 40, 60, 80 listed out. I would be happier to have it stop a lot lower but spread the dial out.

actually, cars with digital speedos take care of that problem. I have never had one though. Though the Maverick has both a normal speedo and a digital readout in the center screen.

One week ago I ordered no calorie salad dressing and barbeque sauce from a company I will call ABC Grocery.
The $50 order was supposed to arrive by Wed and possibly Friday at the latest.
When I checked Fri Fedex said it was in transit and arrive by 9 p.m..
Monday it said it would arrive by 3 p.m.
I dug deeper and it said it was in Calif (I am in Florida)
I went on chat and the company said my order would arrive next Monday....2 weeks!
I said that wasn't good enough, I could get a refund and order again and it would get here sooner.
They offered a refund and a $6 coupon.
Then I thought, I did nothing wrong here, why should I pay for Fedex and their errors.
I asked them to send me a new order, with expedited overnight delivery. I said that other companies can get me my goods the next day, and that in business the customer should be made whole the best way possible.
I also said I would be writing to management about this poor service.
They agreed to send a new order with expedited delivery.
    Don't mess with old guys!

I saw the Marketplace program about Samsung refrigerators, in one it just kept leaking water all over and Samsung would do nothing even under warranty. I like the look and their product are well priced, but too many horror stories. They don't seem to care about their customers...I guess that is one business model for a company to have. Yet we have had excellent service from their TVs.

For those who are staying up all night wondering. The new vacuum has arrived and it works really well. It was $250 compared to the "Renewed" model that cost $200. Odd, this one comes with about 8 attachments compared to 5 for the renewed one.....that is worth $50 alone.

The C250 went in last Thursday. Chged the oil, new battery (old was 8 years old), they toppped up fluids, exchanged Takata airbags. They said it was all good, no leaks, looks like new.
It has 34000 miles on it, really looks new, and valued at $11000 2 years ago. They don't have much on their lot, it should be worth $14000 these days.
One lady was waiting and she had a 2016 E350 she wanted to sell to the dealer, her husband died and she doesn't drive it. They offered her $30000, I was surprised the dealer would pay that. It is probably low mileage and nice...I didn't think of it but I should have followed her out and looked at it. I don't want to spend that much on a car for here though.

From what I understand the quality of your engine rebuild depends entirely on two things:

    1) the quality of the parts used
    2) the quality of the machinist/mechanic rebuilding/refurbishing parts to specifications.

    @tjc78,
Cheap tires but otherwise looks pretty good.

Those Starfire tires don't help, but the car looks really cool. The interior is immaculate. He points out every flaw inside and out with 176 photos. It says slightly modified, I think the front and rear end has some tweaking....actually enhances the look. I really like it, but I would probably be sorry if I bought it....looks like it is too good to be true.
I wonder what it will sell for?

    @tjc78,
The description says 210 HP but it has dual(original looking) exhaust.

That’s a really cool car in nice condition. Love the color combo.

I’d like it better if it had the 4 valve 4.6L but for $1100 who can complain?

Nice clean Town Car. Not my favorite color combo, but hard to find that nice. No cloth or vinyl top is a huge plus too.

210 HP with dual exhaust is correct for 94.

It has the JBL audio system. You would be surprised how good that is even by today’s standards.

Grandpop had a 93 Cartier very similarly equipped.
