IMHO the very best companies do take pride in their workmanship and take pride in the products they make. They aren't satisfied unless the customer is.
I have seen nothing that GM/Cadillac has done to try to make GG a satisfied customer.
I am not commenting any further on this saga since it will only get me in trouble.
Sorry, about that....I agree about the ads...that is a bit of a stretch.
I am curious though about an srx ad Cadillac has been showing...possibly only in Canada. It shows some old buildings and what look like very old streets.....what one would think is a very poor neighborhood. There are a few eagles that are flying around. Then a shot of a new SRX parked on the road in front of the old buildings.
I think there is a message but I am not sure. Maybe that if you have worked your way up you deserve a Cadillac. It could also mean that an SRX is affordable for everyone. It might just be just such a contrasting situation you will remember the ad more.

No ab, your comments are always welcome and points are well made.
We have the same commercial running here in the US as well. It's a spin off of a commercial they developed to 're launch' the brand. The original commercial was well received, but these new ones where they are hyping an ultra low lease payment - not so much.

Isn't that commercial sited in the area where Cadillac is moving its headquarters? Or at least it's a yuppie area of NYC meaningful to that the target audience to whom Cadillac hopes to sell the image of the New Cadillac. Marketing and sales moving. Soho? This is the location of the CT6 seen in an advertisement preintroduction--maybe around the NAIAS.
I can't find the original Cadillac commercial where an early view of a white CT6 is shown in the early morning fog in that area. I hope someone else can find it.

I guess it is Soho or something, but, I don't really relate to it.

At least it is pleasant enough and the music is kind of classy....but, may not appeal to the younger people they are trying to capture.

Do you think GG will find this funny? If not, my apologies.
I keep staring at it, but I'm not figuring out what is going on in that pic. Did she hand him a bag of potatoes? No idea.
Hope we get an explanation soon........and I am glad others didn't get it....I thought there was something wrong with me. My guess is he got something free from that big basket on the counter, but, he isn't sure what it is.

The SRX ad shows the SoHo district, Lower Manhattan, NYC, the corner of Howard and Crosby. Old but ultra-trendy and tres pricey. At least it doesn't have that awful Edith Piaf music. Here it is:
What I find really interesting about that ad is that the US version offers a $339 monthly lease price. The Canadian version is $589/mo. Now, exchange rates have something to do with that, but really...

Imid...thanks for the info about posting a video...can't wait to try it.
Ab, thanks for posting the ad. I would bet most people, unless they really knew about New York City, would say, why are they showing a Cadillac in such a poor neighborhood? Maybe it will have the affect they are hoping for. Usually when you sell luxury cars you make the car seem like it would be coveted by people who want to go upscale. I have been to NYC several times but I didn't realize that was Soho. If I gave it a quick thought I would guess it was a city in Europe, and they were trying to make the car seem more European.
Those are my honest thoughts. I actually like the Matthew McConaughey commercials a lot more. I can identify with that guy............. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4lklnkk8SU
You guys were discussing electric bills recently. I got my first bill yesterday since I put all the utilities in my name since Dad's passing. It was a 31 day bill cycle and it ran $49.34 including all the adjustments. That was $4.00 more than last month. The electric bill in past months used to average $75 - $80 a month in the summer. I know the new refrigerator reduced the electric use but I can't believe that much. This is one of the hottest summers we've had in a long time so the A/C has been running more. Dad did't use much electricity because he always stayed with me in my room all day - I guess for security reasons.
But several electric bills in a row (6 to be exact dating back to March) have all been under $50 - since buying the new fridge. I wonder if the 25 year old fridge used $20+ dollars worth of electricity over and above what the new one uses.
in any case, I sure can't complain about the cost of my electricity.
Never mind the bill amount - look at the kw used. That will tell the real story.

NYC/Soho - driver, why do you think it's a poor neighborhood? The buildings shown are in SoHo and are pre-war, some of the most coveted housing in NYC. They don't look rundown and just because they are older architecture doesn't mean it's a poor neighborhood.
Here is a listing for an apartment on Howard St - 2,000 sq ft loft for $3 million.
1407 kWh here for last month, heavy AC usage. Was a bit higher the month before but we had 6 straight weeks of company. Got to start playing with my Kill A Watt gizmo.
Got a $750 coupon in the mail from Ford. Not sure why, but it had my current address on it. Haven't been to a Ford dealer since checking out Escapes and Transit Connects over a year ago in Michigan.
When I took the car in for the 12k mile service I said the steering wheel clunks a bit when I start the car and the steering wheel comes down into position....just check see if it needs oil or something.
They reported that it was working exactly as it should and it is a ratchet thing. I said I was sorry to make them check out something that was working properly. The service manager said no problem at all, we are happy to make sure it runs perfectly.
My sales consultant answers all emails immediately, and is always willing to demonstrate or set up anything I need for the car. Has said he would come to the house to set up homelink and things like that.
Hope these aren't famous last words but the people who work at MB believe they make the best cars possible - they actually say that, and I get the impression, they will do what they can to keep me a satisfied customer. I could be wrong if there is ever a big problem, but, so far they make me feel I would only shop for another vehicle if there was some other car way more superior to another MB - and I doubt that will happen.
It is so simple and yet so smart, satisfy the customer completely, so that they have no reason to go to another brand.
My steering wheel "clunks" also when I have the steering wheel set high and I turn on the ignition. When I set the steering wheel lower, it does not "clunk".
CTS still in the dealer's shop. Knocking on the door of two weeks now (this most recent time).
I know it doesn't amount to much, but you've still got their loaner.
This is true! That is a bright side. Gotta say, it's not my cup of tea. But, there are a lot of other loaners I could have been given that would be a whole lot worse.

It looked like a poor neighborhood to me mainly because of the outside staircases...even in old buildings I see that have been fixed up don't have those any more. Another thing is usually when they convert older buildings they put in large windows or even bay windows.
I know cobblestone roads don't necessarily mean old to me...but, usually they do.
I am used to a scene like that in expensive parts of London, Rome, Paris, but not NYC. However, I realize that is a new trend and you can see expensive places downtown, but, those buildings looked old to me.
Maybe something like:
btw..I don't want to offend anyone living in a $3million condo that looks like an old apartment to me.....but, I like at least to have some large windows for that kind of money....then again, maybe that is a problem in NYC.

It's when the steering wheel lowers into the place where I have set it. I never noticed it before but I thought since it was the 12k mile check up I may as well make sure it was working properly. They told me it is working exactly as it is supposed to...it just has to lock into place and that is what I am hearing.
I wanted to find something for them to do.........I haven't had a problem yet!
Well, the painter finished the master bedroom suite, the bathrooms and the kitchen/kitchenette. Tomorrow he will do the doors, jambs and the closets. Almost done. I have to move all the junk and clothes from the closets and the pantry early tomorrow morning.
I'm going to need a long rest after this is done. I have my cleaning crew coming Friday afternoon to put the condo back in shape.

Consider yourself lucky. All cars eventually exhibit one or more anomalies the first year or two. We both had that recall for the clips to be installed at the rear of the engine. If that's all that happens, we're both lucky.
With a lot of new cars, even though the problem may be diagnosed correctly, getting the parts can be an issue. My Fusion was at the dealer waiting for a part for 2 weeks, although they knew what the fix was, within a few minutes of looking at it.

I think the fire escapes are a NYC building code issue requiring 2 exits. On the windows, you probably can't change the exterior of historic buildings very much. Consider it part of the charm.

That would make sense. Fire escape ladders just don't look that classy to me, but that's a personal opinion.
It seems that sometimes the "experts" have to justify their salaries. So, the experts say we will sell more cars if we move our office to Soho, now we have to produce an ad using Soho in the background since we are here anyway...now, lets hope we sell a lot more cars.........makes sense to me!
When I lived in New York City, we had a fire escape just outside the two living room windows. We lived on the 5th floor of a 6 story building. In the hottest part of the summers, we would set up our sleeping bags on the fire escape to try to cool off a bit. The apartments were ver hot and we did not have air-conditioning.
Sometime we would set up the barbecue grill and cook hamburgers and hot dogs. We couldn't afford steaks. It may not have been an ideal situation living in the city and in an old building, but we really didn't know anything other than what little we had.

Ohh, I get it now. I thought it was a giant pickle. No wonder I didn't understand it.
driver, rob is right. SOHO is super expensive *and* trendy,
That would make sense. Fire escape ladders just don't look that classy to me, but that's a personal opinion.
Sure, that's the outside, but the inside is a different story. They don't make them like they used to. Huge tall ceilings, wide open spaces, hardwood floors, and "charm."

Don't forget the creaking floors! And most of those very old buildings are "walk-ups" (no elevator). But they are full of charm. Those crown moldings and decorative ceilings are gorgeous. The hallway floors are marble and some are terrazzo. The interior walls are real plaster on laths. These buildings are irreplaceable which is why they have been designated as historic landmarks.

That is true, and many famous people with lots of $$$$s live in those NYC apartments/condos. But, there is no way in the world I related what I saw in the ad to trendy Soho apartments.
I interpreted the ad to mean if you work hard, and even if you come from the streets of a big city, buying a Cadillac is a big reward. Another thought that went through my mind is we have rebuilt Cadillac from the ashes, and just as it is rising to the top, so will you if you own a Cadillac (there were birds flying around).
Expensive condos, Soho, trendy shops in the background, never entered my mind.
I think they ASSUMED we would get the meaning of the ad, but, most of middle America may have misinterpreted the ad too, or just wouldn't relate to it. Do they expect to sell a huge number of cars to NYers? Wonder how someone in L.A., Miami, San Fran or Sioux City, or Buffalo sees that ad?
We do interpret things depending on our own experience, some see a giant tube of lubricant, some see a giant pickle.

Mike, maybe the ad was supposed to remind you about those happy simpler times.
There aren't too many car ads I could say I like, the Cadillac ad is OK, I just don't think it was that well thought out. I like ads for Jeeps, and I do like the Lincoln ads - though from a technical point of view I doubt if they would draw many women buyers.
Those times in Queens, New York were definitely simpler than the 80's through today. TV was just being introduced. I remember Dad bought this huge wood box with a 10" screen (RCA) and attached a huge magnifying lens to it so more than one person at a time could see the picture - which by the way was always jumping every time a plane passed over us (we were in the flight path to runway 4 for LaGuardia Field).
Yes, they were simpler times because we had very little and there were no gadgets, computers, texting, emails and spam, and cars had no power steering or A/C. But, I guess the major improvements made by the science and research facilities over the years do make life more interesting. Today, I can get a date online without the embarrassment or uncertainty of walking up to a girl and carousIng her into going out with me.
Cadillac SRX New York ad is probably one of those "city jungle" themes, whether it makes sense or not. For me, still hands down worst ad (by that means most obnoxious, insulting, insensitive) is the one Escalade's ad David Bowie's "Fame" tune.
Truly horrendous, on so many levels that only a thirty years old self-centered, sleep deprived Madison Avenue "creative designer" jacked up on Monster or Red Bull can think it's good. Tune great, message absolutely repellant. Buy a Cadillac, you'll be like those worst oppressors this world has ever seen.
Painter is finishing all the doors and the baseboards in the living room. Tomorrow he is coming late in the day to paint the 3 closets and the kitchen pantry. I really can't wait for this to be over.
My son and his significant other will be here two weeks from today. I wanted everything to be perfect for them which is why I rushed to get the carpeting installed throughout the condo, the vertical blinds put up and the entire condo painted.
I have to admit that the place looks great (except for the master bedroom bathroom area). As soon as I can afford to replace the vanities and mirrors in both bathrooms as well as both toilets, the place will be a palace.
I am already taking reservations for this winter to any of you guys looking for a nice Bed and Breakfast for a week. We have an Olympic swimming pool, golf course and terrific company - ME!

It seems that sometimes the "experts" have to justify their salaries. So, the experts say we will sell more cars if we move our office to Soho, now we have to produce an ad using Soho in the background since we are here anyway...now, lets hope we sell a lot more cars.........makes sense to me!

Sometime we would set up the barbecue grill and cook hamburgers and hot dogs. We couldn't afford steaks. It may not have been an ideal situation living in the city and in an old building, but we really didn't know anything other than what little we had.

There aren't too many car ads I could say I like, the Cadillac ad is OK, I just don't think it was that well thought out. I like ads for Jeeps, and I do like the Lincoln ads - though from a technical point of view I doubt if they would draw many women buyers.
I like the Chrysler Renegade ad:
