Oh the humanity! One of the drivers managed to slam the light pole pillar in an empty parking lot. From what I hear it was the second Audi he banged up this week.
Maybe he has a thing that he hates about Audis. Maybe they should only give him other cars to drive.
He's helping Audi by selling a lot of OEM replacement parts for them due to repairs.
VW has a lot of aftermarket support as I am finding out with our Tiguan repair estimate just supplemented to nearly $5,600 for a rear-end ding. That's another good thing about Audi, exclusivity so that Insurance companies don't have the option to put cheap aftermarket parts on.
So basically your saying that Audi locks you into paying for overpriced parts and won't allow aftermarket parts.
Overpriced, maybe, but at least there's quality control on the parts. Insurance companies have no interest in quality, and they don't mind if someone has to go to 10 different sources for a warranty repair because they used 10 different manufacturers in a previous repair. I'd prefer a single source (OEM) thank you very much.
And anyone can make aftermarket parts, I imagine many choose not to because they don't sell in the same quantity your typical Camcord does. I don't think Audi is doing anything special to stop them other than making sensitive sensors.
Overpriced defiantly, but there are aftermarket parts makers that make high quality parts that can be of better quality than OEM parts.
There are fantastic aftermarket parts that may very well exceed OEM performance standards, but that isn't the criteria a typical Insurance Company is using when selecting parts. It seems they are looking for the lowest price and shopping on that consideration alone. It's a low bid mentality. That can lead to problems.

Why are you keeping tabs on a Subie dealership? Are you going to be posting on the CCBA board soon?
jmonroe
Maybe.
I stop in about every week or so to let them know that I still don't have the title to the Ascent. I laughed at them when they said they would get for me in a week. They didn't like that, so I occasionally rub a little salt.
I check their inventory before I go. I don't know why.
I’m sure that a lot of those aftermarket parts are identical to the OEM version because they are made by the same firm in the same factory. Lots of peripheral parts like mirrors, assorted body hardware, soft trim, etc etc are not manufactured by the automakers themselves but bought from outside manufacturers who specialize in such things.

Maybe small claims court....Judge Judy would straighten them out!
It seems people have some resistance to buying an EV, and it could be growing:
The survey (JD Powers), which looked at U.S. consumers, found that the percentage of people who say they are “very unlikely” to consider an electric vehicle (EV) for their next purchase has been growing steadily for the first three months of 2023, reaching 21% in March. That’s up from 17.8% in January, and 18.9% in February.
The number of people who say they are “very likely” to consider buying an EV still outnumber the naysayers by a slim margin, at 26.9%, but that percentage stayed basically the same over those three months.
As for the number of EVs actually finding new homes, the segment has grown in the U.S. from 2.6% of all new-vehicle sales in February 2020; to 8.5% in February 2023, although it dropped to 7.3% in March 2023. In the report, J.D. Power said some month-to-month sales drops are to be expected, but “a closer look at the barriers to EV adoption” found that many shoppers “are becoming more adamant about their decision not to consider an EV for their next purchase.”
EVs are coming. The government supports it (financially), and the car companies have bought in. All you have to do is see the posts in Lease Questions discussions to gauge interest.

YMMV, but in the immediate, if you are a one-car person/family, PHEV is the current answer.
The A7 fulfills its mission so well, enough shock range for local errands (although I couldn't commute, now that I've moved 55 miles away from the Mother Ship vs 14 when I lived in the real world) and the primordial ooze allows for plenty of long distance runaround. (As mentioned, my employer/office park has put in 10 Chargepoint stations, gratis to employees of the park)
Of course., there are PHEV that'll best the A7s Energizer Bunny range.
And, I was told by our builder that 2023 code demands a 240v outlet in the garage for our apparent electric future.

**** My local politician said it was sent on April 1. The dealer said it was sent April 6. Subaru Finance, when they called (twice) said it was sent April 13. I called the DMV and they said it was sent March 31 and that I should apply for a duplicate title because it wasn't returned to them - which I did. The application is $58 and it cost $25 for a local online place to send it to the DMV.
Now the key word here is "sent". None of them said it was mailed. Pennsylvania is an Electronic Lien and Title (ELT) state which many, if not most, are. When the lending company tells the DMV that a lien has been satisfied, according to the law the DMV prints the title the next morning and mails it.
None of them said it was mailed. My tiny brain is thinking by saying "sent" they mean the loan was satisfied so it was "sent" to the computer to do its thing.
When all of this started, I was told the dealer made an error in the initial paperwork. As far as I know that error was never corrected. I suspect they could tell the computer to mail it as many times as they want, but as long as the numbers don't match, it wont process it. Now, you would think an error message would be generated if that happened, wouldn't you?

We dinosaurs like our gassers. Like my guy at tennis said, his MB SUV can get him 1200 miles from Florida to Ohio with one 5 minute stop for gas, an EV would probably require 3 or 4 stops (keep in mind, can only fill to 80%, finding a source that is working can be a problem, to get maximum mileage may have to turn off the a/c, radio, wipers etc) of at least 30 minutes each time. And I just read today, any benefit to the environment is almost zero, since EVs tend to be large SUVs, and they weigh a lot more because of the battery. And, how are you going to hook up all the cars parked on the street, on driveways with no garage, in older apartments, etc?
The day will come, but not as quickly as they think at this rate. And yes, people may consider leasing, probably not too many buying though.

Fabulous first road trip in the M240. ~120 miles round trip to Newport, top down in 74 degree weather with a few puffy clouds. Even with all windows down (and wind blocker up), buffeting quite minimal, conversation easy. And, the H/K radio seemed up to the task as I continue to add CDs to the Jukebox. FM radio reception was a bit weaker than I'd hoped, stations the Audi has no issue with were weaker in the M.
Power? Oh, yes. And, the sound of Angles singing from the engine and exhaust. Nice ride over some beat up roads, not quite as smooth as the A7, but as expected. Handling, so much tighter (mucho less understeer!) more fun than the good ship A7. But, as everybody knows, not much going on between wheels and steering wheel.

We don't want to preplan a trip that can be done in 2 days and one night by adding in extra stops for eating sleeping and charging - actually that could add an extra night and day to the trip, hard to save money that way.
With gas you know how far you can get, and you can stop and eat or sleep when you want to. I don't want to be held up to the cars schedule. I don't like stopping for 30 or 40 minutes and eating at every stop....it will cost me more in food than what I am saving and I'll put on 10 pounds on each trip if I stop and charge and eat at every stop.
You charge 80% I hear because it will save the battery a bit, and because the last 20% takes a lot more time in proportion to the first 80%.
I'm not trying to change minds, I don't care whether someone prefers an EV, I am just saying why it doesn't make sense to me.

I think so too. Ideally whatever eventually replaces the RDX will be a plug in.
Plus our 2nd car can easily be an EV now. Bulk of our normal use is local running around, and perfect for a small EV. Could charge maybe once a week. If that.
That was our thinking when we ordered the ID.4 - the round trip drive to the studio is about 22 miles, with maybe a couple of intermediate trips to the store, as well.
Easily get a weeks worth of driving out of a single charge, then plug in one night during the week and recharge the batteries.
I do agree with @driver100 in one respect - it seems that most of the new EVs skew on the large side - trucks and larger SUVs. Sadly, the Bolt is being discontinued, but something that size (or CamCord sized) seems to make a lot of sense. IONIQ5, IONIQ6 and EV6 seem to fit that bill.
My wife wants an EV. In November if the lease deals are still strong, we may end up with the C40. We don’t need a large 3 row SUV since we have the truck. I’m not sure I’d want to tackle a long road trip in one, but for 95% of her driving it’s perfect. Even back and forth to the shore would be fine on a single charge.
If we end up with an EV, at home I’ll install a 240 V charger. At the shore it will be charged at 110. Would not matter since once we are here, we use the golf cart which charges in a few hours. I am not sure exactly the range of the cart, but I’ve never ran it all the way down in a day’s driving.
if we get an EV in this house it will cost me a bit to get power from the basement panel to the garage. I was spoiled in the old place, since the box was in the front corner of the garage. It would literally need about 2' of wire run to an outlet box on the next stud. and the walls weren't even finished. easiest install ever. Won't be that way in this house!
around here, majority of driving is within 10 miles of the house (going to town, any shopping, etc.) occasionally the "big" towns which are 15 or 25 miles each way. Or the family in the boonies is the furthest, about 35 miles maybe.
and most weekdays the car goes nowhere. So I could likely charge Friday, run around all weekend, and not need juice again until the next friday top up. If we were going on a longer trip would just take my Maverick anyway.
and you are right, that once you have a truck (even a baby one!) the need for a big CUV goes way down. especially as empty nesters who rarely use the back seat for people.
as a 2nd car to go along with the Maverick, something like a base power long range Ioniq 5 or Mach E (or whatever the more compact sized ones are) would be fine for us. Or whatever Bolt sized thing GM makes. something like that. And I bet my wife would love a Volvo XC40 EV version!
it also helps in this scenario that range is really not a big concern. if it can realistically do 200 in our use, I would likely never have to think about it. I can't think of a week when we were not travelling since we moved here that I put near that many miles on the car(s) in a week.
though as long as a have a hybrid truck, would be getting (hopefully!) very good MPG in local trips anyway.
have not really looked closely at models. I have no problem with RWD though that would probably leave the FWD truck as the snow vehicle (aka the salt beater!)
cost and range would be more important to me than RWD vs. AWD.
AFter @stickguy got aggressive and replaced his carb, I went to work on my carb on my edger--3.5 engine on the Sears product. Last I used it in 2022, the thing was seeping gasoline into the intake and the air filter, smelling up the garage, along with running rich.
I took off the bowl, removed the pin for the float and the needle valve. Used a q-tip soaked with acetone to rub on the seat to remove crude that I guessed was keeping the needle from seating. I think it worked. I'll see if it still seeps overnight and empties the bit of fuel I put in the tank.
Much easier than taking it "to the guy" to fix it. At least I know of a small motor shop, but getting it there is a problem.

And you spent all that money on that battery mower.
Are you going to ditch this one?
I never opened the box. Will probably return it in a few weeks. Keeping it to make sure the gasser keeps working!
That was to make sure I had something to mow with today. Yard was a jungle.

Why don’t you tell them that you’re selling the car to Carvana and if you don’t have the title the deal will fall through and you’ll hold them responsible for any loses?

My local politician said it was sent on April 1.
I could be wrong.

2017 MB E400 , 2015 MB GLK350, 2014 MB C250
But, lots and lots and lots of folks are inquiring about lease terms for EVs - particularly the new EQ models from Mercedes. They obviously don't have the same reservations you do.
That's OK - that's why they make both chocolate and vanilla ice cream. So folks have a choice.

Power? Oh, yes. And, the sound of Angles singing from the engine and exhaust. Nice ride over some beat up roads, not quite as smooth as the A7, but as expected. Handling, so much tighter (mucho less understeer!) more fun than the good ship A7. But, as everybody knows, not much going on between wheels and steering wheel.

and you can go past 80% if you want to. it just takes longer for the last % because the charging rate slows down.

But just like those who think EV’s are the panacea, those who choose vanilla have made a poor choice and/or have bad taste.
In time, probably a long time, EV’s will be here and will be everything they are supposed to be but like I’ve said before…even with gas prices what they are today I’m not ready to cut off my nose to spite my face.

IMHO, PHEV is a great compromise when you can only have 1 car. If you can have 2 or more, then having 1 EV in the fleet doesn’t have much downside.

I think so too. Ideally whatever eventually replaces the RDX will be a plug in.
Plus our 2nd car can easily be an EV now. Bulk of our normal use is local running around, and perfect for a small EV. Could charge maybe once a week. If that.

Motor week this morning g tested the EV6 GT. 3.9 0-60 and about 11.8 quarter mile at 118.
And a 160 top speed.
Sucker is quick.
I would be happy with 2/3 the performance and double the range though.

If we end up with an EV, at home I’ll install a 240 V charger. At the shore it will be charged at 110. Would not matter since once we are here, we use the golf cart which charges in a few hours. I am not sure exactly the range of the cart, but I’ve never ran it all the way down in a day’s driving.

around here, majority of driving is within 10 miles of the house (going to town, any shopping, etc.) occasionally the "big" towns which are 15 or 25 miles each way.
I can't think of a week when we were not travelling since we moved here that I put near that many miles on the car(s) in a week.
though as long as a have a hybrid truck, would be getting (hopefully!) very good MPG in local trips anyway.

on my edger--3.5 engine on the Sears product.
I'll see if it still seeps overnight and empties
the bit of fuel I put in the tank.
