I hate to break up the culinary discussion with an automotive post, but this morning I was in Louisville for a campaign event so I drove the C43; on the way back to the office I took a familiar on-ramp at double the posted advisory speed. The C43 simply shrugged it off- no tire squeal and very little body roll.

I remember when I was a kid getting a laugh out of an article about behaviour of male teenagers at the time, one of the things being that some liked to brag about how they seldom drove their parent’s car at less than twice the posted speed limit. Apparently those kids are all grown up now and some even post here. 🙄

The yellow and black speed signs are not speed limits per say, they are advisory, sort of like 130 KPH on the Autobahn. You are free to change the 1 to a 2 or 3.

I seem to remember an old rule of thumb on curves where you subtract 10 from the speed limit and double that number. This is usually a safe top speed for an experienced driver but it won’t save you from getting a ticket if caught.

mowed today again. grass was all shaggy again thanks to all the recent rain and since I did not have time to rake, decided to use the bag. Actually worked pretty well, left no mess, and did not really make it hard to push around (manual propelled version, me being the manual propulsion device). When it started to feel heavy I just popped bag off, and it dumped perfectly into the big paper lawn waste bags we use here. Ended up dumping the bag 5 times and it really filled the bag up. But very nice to have no raking to do.

Mower must have been happy to not have the extra workload of all the grass collecting to be mulched because it never shut down and at the end, the battery was at about 1/2 charge instead of blinking red like last time. So I could have easily done a 1/3 acre yard most likely on one charge.

Very happy to be done with the crappy gas engine mower now. hated that thing.

Black and white signs are the real speed limits, yellow and black signs are cautionary and are not an actual speed limit. They are to warn car drivers you probably should not take the curve at full speed....I also think of them as a good warning for trucks that could easily flip over.....most cars can handle taking a curve faster than the yellow and black sign says.

Using that calculation for the ramp I was on means I beat that number by 20 mph. That said, advisory limits are exactly that. I seriously doubt that the police would bother you unless the tires were really squealing and/or you were in Drift Mode.

signage also needs to be for lowest common denominator vehicle. If 95% of traffic is normal sedans, CUVs, etc. the limit will be based on that. Of course a Z06 or 911 can go a whole lot faster but the sign would be way too crowded if they had to list every kind of vehicle with a different speed.

Also drove around in 90 degree temperatures with the windows up so people would think we had a/c.

Yellow signs and many limits in general are absolute lowest common denominator from the malaise era and never updated, or made for a 1952 double decker bus or someone hauling a manufactured home. I've slung the fintail around ramps at 20 over the yellow sign, and it was fine. I think locally most speed limits haven't changed since my grandpa was younger than I am now.

I have been reading on line that Toyota has made a huge solid state battery breakthrough. New battery is half the size, weight, and cost of old battery, and will provide around 800 mile range and can be charged in 10 minutes. Little to no fire danger. Will hit the market 2027. If true, that is game over for I.C.E.

same. I have said that before in response to people discounting the future of EVs, largely because of battery related issues. So much research was going on in that area that it seemed a given there would be huge breakthroughs. I think they were looking to make out of sand or something? But if they can combine size/capacity breakthroughs with cheaper, more readily available (and safer) materials, game changer.

We went back home and will sleep in our nice bed tonight.
This was truly the trip from hell.
*Briefly....all on Air Canada - Their motto is "We're Happy if We y can make your Life a Nightmare". It was a 2 hour trip from Toronto to Halifax, that was fine. We got up at 4 a.m. for a 7 a.m. flight.
*Next flight to Heathrow was supposed to depart at 11 a.m.
*It was 2 1/2 hours late in boarding. They claim they had to change 3 tires. I don't believe them, who would decide to change tires when your leaving to Europe with a full plane. I think they said that so it would be a safety issue and they wouldn't have to give refunds.
*We get on the plane, go out to the runway, and sit there for an hour.
*They said there was a sick passenger, and we taxi back to the terminal.
    * Takes 1 hour to clean up the mess and get the passenger off the plane...and locate his suitcase and remove it.
    * * We find out after the from people who sat near him that he was drunk and 5 of his buddies were drunk and had to be removed from the plane.
    * Now we won't land in Heathrow until after 11 so we wait for 30 minutes while they see if they can get permission to land at Heathrow after hours.
    * Permission denied.
    * They tell us they will have a plane that we can get on at 8 a.m. the next morning.
    * The even worse news is there are no hotel rooms available, but the airport is open all night.
    * No thanks, I have tried that, we won't sleep and we'll be wasted for 3 days.
    * We got on another airline (Porter) and took a 5 p.m. flight home and will be glad to sleep in our nice bed.
    * I called the airline and they'll give us a full refund. I think the hotel and other stuff might be covered at least partially, Mrs D100 insured the trip.
    * I hate traveling. MrsD says she will go to Florida if I go on vacation trip each year.........this should have been easy.......but what a waste of time and money. Just glad to be home, and play tennis or pickleball tomorrow! :D

I thought about that also, enough electricity to go around (and the cost).
Small footprint nuclear power is the answer.

Waiting for plane delayed 90 minutes at Haifax, on the way to London.

Are you in Halifax waiting for a plane, or waiting in Toronto for a plane coming from Halifax?
    * Permission denied.
    Wow. Just Wow.

If I read that right you were delayed in Halifax and there were no hotel rooms in Halifax. If that was the case, why didn’t you have @ab348 come and get you and put you up for the night? What do you think poster buddies are for? :/

That thought didn't cross my mind. I don't have abs phone number and we had to make a decision whether to fly home or try to sleep at the airport.
That would have been fun meeting up with ab.
Now we have to see what refunds we can try to get.

I'm no engineer, but that sounds like pie in the sky stuff. I can believe all of it except the charging time. That much energy transfer in that amount of time could only be done through multiple inputs (because 1 cable can't handle such a transfer) on a battery that is effectively sectioned. Otherwise, the heat output would result in a meltdown.

Does anyone happen to remember the website(s) to decipher VINs off the top of their head? And would it be specific enough to say whether the vehicle should have heated/power folding mirrors?
