Rental pacific did the job. 5 people and lots of luggage swallowed. Even took OFs advice on best way into Newark. Only glitch was that 5 mi it’s from our house CarPlay took a powder and never could get it back. So the wife had to navigate when needed off her phone. Other than that, comfortable cruiser for everyone.

And now we are in Portugal.

Really? Some of the best quotes come from the Simpsons. My favorite is when Homer is in the hospital and he says : “Look at that guy, he gets a machine to breath for him while I have to use my own lungs…like a sucker!”

I just filled up at Sam’s Club since today they are 25-30 cents lower than surrounding stations. $3.24 RUG.

    Couple of things I notice:

Credit card only which I’m not a fan of since I’m a cash for gas guy.

They hit your credit card with a $1 test charge to see if it’s valid as they sell you the gas. Is that routine? I wouldn’t know because, you know, cash guy.

They have a $50 limit and then the pump shuts off. That’s frustrating since my truck has a 26 gallon tank.

I remember going to Atlantic City as a kid and even after I was married for a few years with my kids before the casinos came along. I still remember how far you had to walk before you got to the water. It seemed like it was 100 yards from the boardwalk to the water. In Myrtle Beach maybe 120 feet which suits me fine. You shouldn’t have to take a break to get to the waves.

Still having issues with the Audi Q7 backup camera. It has been in at least 4 times. The time before last, they put the wrong software on it. Last time they put what they said was the correct software. This morning the backup camera isn’t working again and has the movie camera with a line through it. Hmmm. This is getting old especially for a federally required safety system. How would you all approach this? I bought it as a loaner in Iowa and live in IN

No system replacement. Two times ago they said there was a fault for over temp in two front cameras in grille but didn’t address it. They wanted me to replace a parking sensor so I had them do that - mainly because I knew it would not work…then it would be their problem

Other than cloudy weather.. my biggest issue is when to leave on Monday. I don't really have options in mind, other than the hotel parking lot, and it's smack dab between a Wal-Mart and the interstate. Worried that we'll leave at 10 AM, and hit a giant logjam of traffic and not make it there by 2:00 pm.

Or, leave at 6 AM, and cool our heels for 5-6 hours.. We didn't get a room for the night before.

That's my biggest concern too. but I'll just leave early get there early and just hang out until the eclipse starts. My other concern is how bad traffic will be when it's over when everyone leaves at once. From what I can gather there are places having eclipse parties that are going on long after the eclipse is over so people don't leave all at once.

I've had mostly decent experience with QI hotels, so I'm not sure why you don't like it. It was years since, though, so it could have changed. But l I have relatively low expectations, I typically spend low on accommodations, so I can spend more on attractions.

Yesterday when I went to do the weekly fill-up on the TL I noticed the Airbag light glowing. Not good. When I returned home, I asked my daughter about it. She said she meant to tell me but forgot. This morning I took it to the Honda dealer. They diagnosed it as the passenger seat sensor giving the issue and said to take it to Acura, they couldn't fix it. I just got a call from the Acura service department, and they gave me a preliminary estimate of $630! I am going to drop it off later this afternoon so they can diagnose it and confirm what is needed. If it ends up being more than the $630, it may be time to cut bait. Honda didn't charge me to diagnose the issue, Acura $87, but that is waived if we do the repair.

Marriott seems to have the best locations. But, nothing near Shelbyville, IN.

    Quality Inn: $250
    Hampton: Sold out
    Holiday Inn Express: $470
    Comfort Suites: $450

These are all within 3 miles of each other, so you can guess how crappy this QI might be.

On the plus side, I have until 6:00 PM that day to cancel my reservation with no penalty. So, if traffic looks decent at 5:00 PM, we might just come on home.

The carriage trade is alive and well. . .and posting.

I've stayed in Motel 6 (gasp!) when it still cost something in the vicinity of $6. It was actually $6.95, and if you wanted to use the TV in the room it was an extra 25 or 50 cents to get the key to unlock it.

I've also stayed in mind-blowing (at least to me -- see above) lodgings in places all over the world, including Hong Kong, Taipei, Frankfort, Israel, Spain and others.

What I want in a lodging is 1) decent air conditioning, 2) a bed without bugs, 3) decent internet, 4) a reasonably clean bathroom, and some assurance I'll get through the night without someone killing me. A low bar for sure, but it's served me well over the decades. The old Canadian Railroad Hotels (Bessborough, etc.) were great, and I've stayed in any number of fleabag-looking motels that turned out to be just fine.

    YMMV

Honda didn't charge me to diagnose the issue, Acura $87, but that is waived if we do the repair.

The airbag light light was on from the day i bought my old cargo van. About 7 years later i had it diagnosed as an airbag sensor…$500 at my indie shop. Considering your upscale vehicle and dealer rates, $630 seems to be just about right.

Like you, i sold it rather than spend that kind of money on a $1000 vehicle. I assume your car is worth more than $1000.
