all done. another 8 inches so about 13 total, with some mixed freezing stuff in the middle. top 8" was lighter to move than the bottom 4!
that better be it for snow for the year. and having a garage where you can't fit the cars and the blower really stinks. Especially when it lives way at the bottom of the back yard, and you don't plan ahead to leave a car out to make room, and bring it up when you can easily.
Well, that was anticlimactic. Audi had a TSB, a reflash of one of the ECMs and all is well. Now, just have to coordinate with the wife on when to get to Hyannis to pick it up!
If Audicare paid to have it towed to the dealer, shouldn't they pay to have it taken home? If they didn't - never mind!
Gotten worse. For a change forecasters guessed low.
Probably another 8” since changed back to snow 4 hours ago. Snowmegodden out there.
Told the wife I might be playing the snowbird card.
I’ll be spending the next month sawing up all the trees that toppled in this mess. It was like a shooting range listening to all the branches popping from the weight of the ice and snow.

This is the info from Genesis North America regarding the recall on my G90:
GMNA'S NORTH AMERICA AMERICA SAFETY OFFICE ("NASO") HAS FILED SAFETY RECALL 019G TO ADDRESS A CONDITION INVOLVING THE TURBOCHARGER OIL SUPPLY PIPE IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR GENESIS VEHICLES PRODUCED FOR SALE IN THE U.S AND CANADA. GENESIS IS CONDUCTING THIS ACTION TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF ITS VEHICLES FOR GENESIS CUSTOMERS.
THE LEFTHAND ("LH") TURBOCHARGER OIL SUPPLY PIPES IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES CAN CRACK DUE TO PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN OIL LEAKING ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. OIL LEAKING ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE.
REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE
:Recall Incomplete

From what my Service manager told me, they don’t expect to have parts to fix the issue until after May 7th or 8th, and could be even later than that. It only applies to the 3.3 L V6 Twin Turbo engines (375 hp). I just hope they get the fix completed before it gets into the 90’s down here in mid-May or early June.
This is the info from Genesis North America regarding the recall on my G90:
Do the V8s have any recalls?
No, just the 3.3 L V6 twin turbos in G80’s and G90’s.
The part I don't like to hear is: OIL LEAKING ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. OIL LEAKING ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE :Recall Incomplete
I switched from getting a daily physical newspaper daily to an E-edition. I missed the real paper at first but now I prefer the E-Edition. The E-edition (a national paper in Canada, the National Post) allows you to add comments after a story. They had an interesting story about how it will be impossible for manufacturers to meet EV standards on time, and that EVs aren't selling very well. Even the head of Hertz quit as he gambled on buying EVs as rentals but it was a bust. Also, it seems that EVs probably cause more pollution than gassers over time...... EVs don't work very well in Canada because electricity is expensive, and the cold weather drains the batteries. It has been a real problem with buses and particularly school buses. The readers comments are really amusing, and I LOLed at this one;
Nothing is more funny than watching my neighbor during a 12 hour power outage charge his 2 EVS with a gas operated portable generator. I still laugh my a-- off.

final guesstimate is 13-15 inches. Though we were above the snow/ice line that OF was more below, so minimal ice issues up here. Pick your poison I guess!
I heard Tom back down in Philly just floated away, with about 3 inches of rain out of the storm. Most areas down there don't tend to be able to handle that volume of rain. Snow, once you shovel or blow it, is just piles to the side that don't bother anyone. Instead of flooding roads and houses!
I was awakened too early this morning by the sound of wind-driven rain pelting against the window above my bed. We were thankfully on the warm side of this system and it is currently no longer raining, the wind is calm, and temps are in the mid-50s F.. The weather doomsayers who were bruiting about stories earlier in the week regarding The End of Days were once again totally wrong.

Good to hear! My 4xe needs a hybrid control processor's software updted pursuant to a recall to ensure the defroster works 24/7 but aside from that it has been trouble free- the latest fill up showed a 70.8 mpg average. I also found my next PHEV- the Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+. A 40+ mile pure EV range coupled with a twin turbo I6. 603 hp and 0-60 in around 3.5 seconds.
Until this month, the A7 has been pretty much flawless, too. With great mpg/mkwh too, given its size/weight. And, as I've mentioned, just a spectacular interstate cruiser. I'll pick it up Monday, stop at the Cape Cod Mall for lunch and free electricity. Hope the dealer gave it a bath.
That phev Hammer will get a look from me, too.

I didn't think of that, and yes, Audicare paid for the tow, thankfully. But, as I mentioned earlier, by picking it up, I get away from work tomorrow for a bit and I'll have a leisurely lunch while getting a free tank of zap.

we went out late morning to get haircuts and go to the market. Man, what a zoo that parking lot was. So many snow piles to deal with. But, got sunny and warmed up so pavement cleared pretty quickly. Out 15+"s is going to take a while to disappear but at least driving around is no big deal. The Acura though, went from dirty to filthy. as soon as the snow melts enough to get at the hose bib, that is getting a bath (won't be the first time I dragged the hose across the snow to wash salt crap off a car!)
Projects completed (had help from my cousin with his union Steamfitter truck of tools and supplies for 1-3)
Shore house -
1 - Installed new pull down faucet, garbage disposal and new drain piping
2 - reinstalled slop sink in laundry room. Deferred project from new floor install (new tile was higher than old)
3 - Hot water washer hose was leaking ever so slightly and was fuzed to the valve. I sprayed it for weeks with penetrating oil to no avail. We eventually got it to spin and it was actually part of the valve and not the hose. Hot water was spewing everywhere … luckily the shut off valve on the water heater was right there. Had to cut an access panel and put in a new valve with a short piece of copper. My cousin had a Propress gun and Viega fittings on the truck. Made it much easier.
Home -
4 - fix soap dispenser in kitchen (was loose)
5 - change outlet behind couch to a recessed outlet since the lamp plug kept getting messed up.
6 - installed third camera over garage. Of course I didn’t have a long enough drill bit so a Home Depot run was needed.

The Propress and Viega fittings are interesting. It may not be long until soldering will be left only to homeowners and smaller plumbing firms.
A friend was VP of a fairly large mechanical contracting company and, when Sharkbite fittings came out, they had to estimate jobs using both Sharkbites and soldering. Many times the savings in labor outweighed the cost of Sharkbites, even when relatively new.
I’ll have to check out such outlets. Could use them in a couple of places. Thing is, I usually find I can barely squeeze an outlet into the box with all the wire that goes along with it. This must be doubly tough, no?

I had two 14’s in there with a ton of extra wire and I got it to fit without much hassle. Had to really make sure everything was folded in big loops so that it took as little depth as possible.
I would not recommend if you have 12 wire in the box.

Yeah soldered fitting are becoming a thing of past slowly but surely. With most new homes becoming all Pex and the ProPress tools coming down in price there is no reason for a pro not to have it.
Shark bite snap in fittings (have to be careful as Sharkbite manufacturers much more than that) work well but I wouldn’t have them in my home unless it was a temp repair.
I don’t allow them on any of my jobs for work. There is a clause in the SOW prohibiting the use of them.

I almost always sweat fittings in my house. There was a time I used a Sharkbite when it was especially tiresome trying to solder it. I check it occasionally. It's still good after, I forget how many years, but it's been a long time.
for behind furniture we started getting extension cords with the flat 90degree plug. wonderful invention. only stick out about an inch, and the surface is nice and flat to push stuff up against. then just plug stuff in where this is room to run the cord.
you list made my recaulk 2 baths and the kitchen, and wood fill. sand and paint some damaged trim pieces look tame. But I did not have a pro with a truck full of tools to help out!
Wife has made mention that the older son gets a bit neglected due to all the sports the younger one plays. Many weekends for a couple of years at the baseball field, etc.
Older one has been pushing more and more about cars and racing talk. So I started searching for some kind of driving-related vacation. The racing programs I have found thus far are stupid expensive (we’re talking 5 figures for the 2 of us for 3 days). A long time ago, I had stumbled across this place that was offering a vacation in Europe where you convoyed in BMWs for like 5 or 6 days to various hotels and driving spots. It wasn’t terribly expensive. I have not been able to find it again. All similar ones are called “luxury tours” or some such nonsense and are, again, stupid pricey, and amount to someone handing you keys and a programmed nav.
Maybe we should just build and race a Lemons car. I dunno.

———————————————— And PEX tubing is going to replace copper tubing altogether, at least for homes. I remember when plumbers laughed at PEX and looked down at it. Said it was for home owners who didn’t know how to sweat copper. Now plumbers have no problems using it and they’re not bashful about saying so. Same goes for using stainless steel flexible gas lines vs. black pipe. Times are changing.
I’ve seen some pretty high end new homes around me that are done using only PEX and flexible gas lines. Which leads me to ask, @stickguy, is your new home plumbed with PEX and flexible gas lines. Just curious.

(1) I like the awareness and sentiment. Good on you both for recognizing it.
(2) if you’re going to spend 5 figures, why not buy a car on the west coast and do a cross country road trip? Maybe something you fix up or customize once you get back?
(3) Why not split off and take turns with the younger one on weekends while the older gets some time? Like the car project idea. Maybe fix up the Dodge?

My house is older and has the black iron gas piping running into the house from the meter until it reaches the area of the furnace, where it transitions to a yellow flexible line to make the connection. All of the original water pipes are copper of course, but most renos over the last decade have used Pex of some sort for those connections. Interestingly, last week I had my water heater replaced and those plumbers used copper for the new connections, keeping parts of what was already there.

My wife is wanting to tour Tuscany (after reading a non-fiction book by one of her acquaintances), and coincidentally I saw that AMG was hosting an event there. Nice tours, great food, and the opportunity to drive both classic and modern Mercedes- the only downside was the price- nearly $12,000 per person.
On a more realistic note, my son and I have attended numerous events at the BMW Performance Center in SC, and I highly recommend it.

————————————————- I have a question for you since your house has PEX. Did your plumbers use the stainless steel Cinch Clamp Rings or the black anodized Copper Compression Rings? We have used only the compression rings and have never had a problem with those. However, the plumber we’ve used to do the heavy work to break up the concrete basement floors when we’ve installed bathrooms down there, said he likes the stainless rings because they’re a little cheaper and a lot easier to cinch than using the compression rings.
I have to admit using the compression tool does take some work but maybe it’s a good way to get in a little. exercise.

Will state farm insurance pay to replace windshield cracked by rock with Toyota brand glass? On a 2.5 year old Venza.
I think all you have to do is specify OEM glass. That’s what we did when the windshield was replaced in the Q5. USAA complied.
On that topic what would the experts here recommend for repair of a windshield chip that hasn’t spread yet? Safelite, Independent shop or do it yourself kit from the auto parts store.
I think I’d want quality and durability first but not spend a fortune if I can avoid it.
In my neck of the woods most insurance companies have a deal with Safelite. If Safelite can repair it, Insurance co. will pay for it and waive any deductible, etc. I have used them a couple of times and they did a great job. Good deal for everyone. Safelite get the business and gets paid, you get a free repair, and Ins. co. doesn't have to pay for total new windshield.

I heard Tom back down in Philly just floated away, with about 3 inches of rain out of the storm. Most areas down there don't tend to be able to handle that volume of rain. Snow, once you shovel or blow it, is just piles to the side that don't bother anyone. Instead of flooding roads and houses!

Being deported has to suck but I know you had a warmer Winter than most of us in here.
Come Thursday I’m not sure who will have the last laugh.

If you lived in the Johnstown PA area you wouldn’t say that. They got hit with at least 3 major floods over the last hundred plus years.

I’m beat… this was don’t call the guy weekend.
I wanted to wash the cars.. but I’m done lol

I know you won’t approve of the wimpy garbage disposal but we don’t use it that much.

Hey, I have a topic.
I dunno.
Thoughts? Experiences?

I’ve done the Xtreme Xperience a few times. Supercar you get to drive on a track. Don’t know if there is an age limit, but ridealongs are available. They go all over the country, so I’m sure there is something close. Only a few hundred dollars for 3 laps. Can get a photo and video with telemetry info.

And PEX tubing is going to replace copper tubing altogether, at least for homes.

My house is six years old and is all Pex and flex gas lines

#2....great idea!
Having recently seen it open and roughed in I can confirm it is blue and red tubes running all over. When I see it again this week I will check on the gas lines. That I don’t recall.

How about taking your son to a go kart track to see if he actually likes racing?
I went to one in CT a few times with some guys that were BMW Club instructors at LRP.
After they lapped me, I thought I'd just follow their line to how to improve my times.
Coundn't even keep up with them trying that.

————————————————-I have a question for you since your house has PEX.
I have to admit using the compression tool does take some work but maybe it’s a good way to get in a little. exercise.
