Nice day here again (not as nice as yesterday, but some sun and in the 50s). Had the truck out last couple of days running errands, and it managed to get dirty since it rained recently. So, that got a bath today. got ambitious and pulled out the ladder and started washing gutters. Can't say that was fun, but the ones I did look much better!

Same here only I was 20’ up a ladder cutting down a dead oak tree. Can’t wash the cars yet because the gravel driveway is still wet and muddy.

I watched a video about walk behind gas mowers at Home Depot. There were only 5 choices and 1 of them was a discontinued Honda model.

I have never had a lawnmower rust like this. A band-aid job for sure. Four layers of thick, heavy duty tape. The goal is to make it through one more season. I like the one lever height control and rear drive. We have had a really wet season thus the muddy machine.

    How about using Bondo?
I thought about that and may do so. The main thing I want to prevent is clippngs or worse coming thru. I showed it to my wife and her response was go buy a new one. As it runs and functions fine, not yet.

I am having ceiling fan boxes and switches/wiring put in 6 rooms. Probably waiting to put them in myself.

light prices are crazy. Not just high, but wildly varying for stuff that looks very similar. My favorite was looking at the post head selection on the website (builder installs the light post, we have to buy the light to go on top). First one that came up (in their "featured selections") was $8,000. For one light fixture, to sit outside in the weather. I thought it was obscene when I first looked and thought it was $800. Could not believe they wanted $8k for it.

My wife’s relatives who live on the ocean in Gloucester had to replace their outdoor fixtures every year due to corrosion. Maybe if they had spent $8000 they could have avoided that.

Years ago at Lowes they had 3 brands of lawn mowers on the angled shelves. John Deere, Cub, and another brand. If I remember right all 3 were made by that same company.

Get some thin sheetmetal that you can bend/form roughly to shape and screw or pop rivet into place.

After I got home I discovered this, someone clipped my bumper. The damage is very minor and some touch up paint should minimize it. It just grates me who ever did this did not leave a note.

surprised the heck out of me, but we finalized our tile selections today (outside of the fancy tile for around the FP and behind the range, but that is only about 27 SF total so not a big deal). Just having the wife agree to everything is a miracle, but it also came in a few bucks under the allowance (though will go a couple hundred over once we add the last tiles). Just have to figure out with the store and builder if we can arrange delivery. Otherwise I may be renting a Uhaul cube van and picking up the pallet myself just to get it done.

as long as I don't have to unload it. Tile boxes are absurdly heavy. We almost bought the designer tile we need (until I did the math and realized the size would be a problem) and I had put 4 boxes in the cart then had to put them back on the shelf. at 49#s per box that was more of a workout than I wanted. and some of the other selections of bigger tiles weighed even more.

the sales person that put everything into the order could see the weight, and the total was about 1,950 pounds. The Maverick ain't hauling that pallet!

Maybe it’s my phone but I can’t see the damage. Also what is that round thing, is that your driveway?

Being as minor as you say it is, it’s possible the guy didn’t even know he tapped your bumper. Still annoying when you see damage to your car.

Black line is a scrape. At least looks easy to touch up.

Circle looks to be a parking sensor.

It is a scrape on the bumper. I should have taken a picture of what I initially discovered; white paint smeared on bumper which I was able to remove. I have some touch up paint to repair it. The round circle is a parking sensor, and yes that is my driveway. It is minor damage. I didn't get upset but certaionly not delighted. I just hate people don't take responsibility and don't leave a note. With it being so minor, I would have called and thanked them for letting me know and let it go.

We had quite a sight at Albany airport yesterday. The National Guard was bringing home two guardsmen who had been killed in a helicopter crash. As the C130 flew over the airport it did an extreme bank and circle (much more extreme than this stock picture) at probably under 300’.

While I applaud the tribute to two fallen soldiers, I can’t help but wonder the potential for disaster if the plane had exceeded its bank limits and plunged into the terminal. Do any of you former service members know what the rules are for low altitude maneuvers?

I've been around Wright Patterson AFB near Dayton, and it's amazing what the big planes can do, when they aren't full of passengers. Shocking, really.

I saw one of the 747 Presidential aircraft taking off from there severals years ago and it made a corkscrew turn right off the runway doing a full 180, completely reversing direction rather than a smooth takeoff over some of the questionable parts of Dayton (of which there are many now).

I don't know how many of those there are and i wondered if the VP were onboard from something in the Dayton area. I was driving on the road near the WSU campus. That 747 must have turned within 1 mi. Huge roar, slow climb. Those pilots are ex-military.

Many of the planes seen here are driven by reserve pilots.

According to Google there are two 747s configured as Air Force One and five 757s configured as Air Force Two for use by the VP, cabinet members, spouses and the like.

Air Force One and Two are designations to any plane, where President or Vice-President respectively are currently present. If President were travelling using a Cessna (if Secret Service let him), it would be Air Force One for that moment

In 1981, I went to a friends graduation from the Naval Academy.
The VP(George H W Bush) was the keynote speaker.
3 AF 1 type planes flew by the stadium. We were having some problems with the Libyan's back then.
Didn't think of it until just now, but he easily could have been driven there.
Maybe the planes were just a flyover for show.

Note that I said “configured”, not designated. The actual 747s and 757s are equipped rather differently than the run of the mill aircraft a President may sometimes travel in.

I think you’re talking to me.

When I was in the Navy we were the first Navy transport squadron to get C-130’s. I was a member of a flight crew and flew as a loader while stationed at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland, around 60 miles or so south of Washington DC. We were never permitted to do those types of maneuvers except at air shows which I was never a part. Those few flights were flown by the more senior guys. I was just a kid at the time, not even 21. However, I was on a pilot training (PT) flight one time about 3 or 4 months after we got a few C-130’s and since these planes were turbo prop jobs they were much more powerful than the other planes in our squadron which had reciprocating engines, so the pilots liked to get their kicks when flying PT’s.

I remember one time on one of my first PT flights on a C-130, the crew that was flying asked me to stand behind the flight engineers seat and hold onto it, so they could show me something. To get their kicks they asked me to do deep-knee bends but to do it slowly. The pilot then put the plane into a powerful nose-up, steeper left bank, than the photo you show and then said, “NOW”. I thought I was going slow like he asked but in no time I found myself sitting on top of my boots. He then said, “now try to get up”. I was barely able to stand up because the plane was pulling a little over 2G’s. He then returned the plane to normal flight level and the whole crew was laughing at me. I didn’t know it at the time but this was sort of an initiation for a newbie C-130 flight crew member.

Under normal conditions most pilots don’t do steep nose-over maneuvers in possible congested areas like airports. Maybe you saw a hot-dog pilot that forgot he wasn’t on a PT flight.

If the Navy would have left me fly those I would have stayed in but my eyes were just a tick below the line and they don’t fudge on that.

    A little story about that:

When I had my first 6 month flight physical, that are given to all flight crew members not just pilots, like I said my eyes came up a little short for qualifying to be a pilot but my hearing was in the “exceptional range”. I remember the Navy doctor saying something like, “@jmonre, have you given any consideration to staying in the Navy since you seem to be doing pretty good with everything, even being on a flight crew at your age”? I said something like my eyes won’t let me be a pilot and that’s what it would take for me to make the Navy a career but if you can take a couple points from my hearing test and slide them over to my eye test, I might just consider it. You’d have thought I asked him to shoot someone and he got very serious and said, “you know damn well I can’t do that”. :#

It’s not like cheating on your taxes, the doctors have to be honest.

I had another friend who was on a C-130 flight crew. He told me of a LAPES (Low Altitude Parachute Extraction System) drop that went awry. The rookie loadmaster had been told that if the parachutes deploy but the cargo isn't rolling to release the chutes immediately to keep from stalling out the aircraft. So, he thought that the cargo wasn't moving and he released the chutes. Problem was, the cargo was rolling so when it dropped onto the ground it wasn't slowing down much at all- and it wound up smashing through the front door of the mess hall- which fortunately was unoccupied at the time.

The owner of the F-Series is about 21 and was his grand dad's. He has had it for about 4 years and has done heavy modifications to it. I think he has 3 sets of wheels that he changes out and the suspension height is always different. Lights in the wheel wells, all fixed up. I was surprised to see he bought the GMC, and he is doing the same to it!
