Oh, I wouldn't be embarrassed, I'd tell them that it was a fall from a 30 foot extension ladder. B)

'stever', I just remembered this. When I was doing the Genny a week ago, one of the casters came lose and fell off. I was going slow so no harm done. If you decide to buy one of these, check the acorn nuts that hold the casters to the base. I found all of them not as snug as they should have been and snugged them up a bit. Maybe they came lose from use but I doubt it. Just a word of caution since I don't know your horsepower rating. :D

I dunno... I had an ER visit to get stitches once after I got cut between my ring and middle fingers by reaching into a filing cabinet drawer. Each finger went on opposite sides of a divider and the stamped metal edge sliced me like a scalpel. Just put my hand in the partially open drawer and ZINGO.

90 minutes, 5 stitches, and multiple answers of, "You did WHAT?" :o

Now that I look again, I need something that'll go at least 24" high. Current one is 26". hmmm (Oh yeah, I hate using my billfold as a filing cabinet).

Why are you trying to make this difficult? :(

C'mon man, where is your ingenuity? How about a couple old phone books. You know, like you had at the Thanksgiving table years ago. :o

I like horse stall pads too - I could add about six to the existing one in my pic and step up to my bench. ;)

    Lookie what I found:

A lot more than Harbor Freight, however, you can get up to a nose bleeding 28 inches but it only has 4 casters so it isn't as stable.

I'd still go with the phone books and duct tape. ;)

HF also sells 4 inch casters. All the way in back past the waxes and car buffers.

I have the same HF stool, but I use mine to roll around our courtyard to pull the occasional weed that comes up between bricks. Don't have to bend over.

I was a Corpsman in the service and you would be surprised at some of the embarrassing things we saw doing emergency medicine. I was stationed in rural Alaska, so just imagine a base with a ton of 18 and 19 year olds away from home for the first time with not much to do and plenty of booze. "It seemed like a good idea at the time" finished a lot of stories.

I remember one guy who was reaching for something just high enough to be out of reach so he plopped down a phone book to stand on it to reach the object. Yep the top part of it shifted and he fell and broke his arm, that was way lower than 15 inches.

Now try explaining how you ran yourself over with your Jeep.

Or why you got a particular part of your body pierced by an amateur.

And just how you broke your leg with the floor buffer.

Sailors would rather drown than admit to things like that and Marines would rather just not admit to it at all. B)

The worst accidents I witnessed in the Army were related to Jeeps, (flipping them) although I do vividly remember one time I was walking past a 5000 gallon fuel truck and noticed smoke coming out from under the driver's seat (that's where the batteries were stored). Driver was asleep! I banged on the door, woke him up, and ran like hell. (it didn't blow up, thankfully). They were going to give me a medal but decided that actually we were all really stupid and probably deserved a court martial. We were supposed to either put the fire out or drive the truck away from the fuel depot, they said. I replied that the thought had not occurred to me at the time.

Glad you got the words memorized OF....I don't think too many Canadians know the words to Oh Canada. I guess with everyone trying to be politically correct, they wanted to make the anthem more gender neutral. So,
instead of “in all thy sons command” the words were changed to “in all of us command”. You may hear the new version if you watch a hockey game.

Hey cdnpinhead, our Prime Minister was more than a drama teacher, he also was a snowboard teacher and a bouncer, and his daddy was once our PM. He was going to run a $10 billion deficit to quick start the economy, that is snowballing into a $30 billion deficit. Driver's rules of personal finance state, "Avoid debt if at all possible......debt usually snowballs out of control".

Speaking about cars....this is a good rule to follow when buying a car.

Since we were talking about detailing stuff yesterday, I was inspired to wash my Legacy tonight. As I was drying it, I thought to myself how rough the paint felt. So I broke out the orbital. I started with the deck lid (my favorite part). Machine Polish, Best in Show wax. Hmm. Feels better, but not perfect. Ok. Now comes the speed shine & clay bar. Then reapply the wax. Ahhhh! Glass smooth & perfect. I clay bared, polished, & waxed the right rear 1/4 panel. By now it was too dark & too late.

Now do I leave the Legacy in the garage & take the Prelude tomorrow? Or do I take the Legacy to work tomorrow, rehash, & finish over the weekend?

I just don't have the patience for all that. It helps that just doing a quick clay (and sometimes not even that) and a hand wax, it makes such a big difference that I feel like I accomplished a lot, and feel all proud of myself!

I was impressed with the one professional detail I ever had (last summer, using a gift certificate from Xmas) on the RDX. That really came out like new, and they did a great job on the details.

I'd leave the prepped car (Legacy) in the garage and drive the Prelude.

I have an appointment tomorrow morning to get the Genny it's first oil change. It's supposed to rain and the Genny has been in the garage since the waxing. I'd really like to take Mrs. j 's Subie in as a surrogate but I don't think that will keep the warranty valid on the Genny. :'(

The dumb moves weren't always the fault of the troops. I once had to review a patient at the VA who had suffered brain anoxia when the genius in charge ordered him to drive his tank through a river of unknown depth. Of course it was too deep and he nearly drowned before they could get him out.

Hmmmmm...orbital buffer. Been thinking of getting one for years. What do you guys recommend to get at a place like Harbor Freight?

I've been doing the "hand" wash/wax for awhile, and it's not nearly as much fun as my cars have grown bigger.

You can't buy the wood for what HF sells them for. My wife got one and stuck it in the living room - that freed up the dining room table unless she's framing something. It's usually covered, but she's still out of town and took the art supplies with her. My bench is older and the dog holes are bigger - wine corks fill the holes perfectly and pop out easily. And that's the stool I lost. :)

Talk about cars looking the same. I was walking Gigi this morning (our dog) and saw an Infinity and a Lexus. I don't think I would know which was which if it wasn't for the emblem and the kickback in the roof pillar.

I find the same similarity between the current Lexus ES and Camry. I often have to do a double take to determine the make.

Most all sedans look alike to me. All 157 of them.

The five minivans are easy to distinguish. Six, if you count the Metris (I don't count the "commercial" minivans but they all all pretty distinctive too).

I sure can't spot 'em like I did when I was a young 'un. Some remain distinctive but most sedans aren't.

When I was in the Army I heard a loud explosion one day and I ran over to the motor pool where a guy changing a tire on a deuce and a half had a split rim blow apart! The ring barely grazed his arm opening up a gash that required several stiches. The ring went on and hit a Quonset Hut and did tremendous damage. The guy changing the tire was in total shock to the point he just trembled and could not speak.

The Motor Sergeant, however WAS able to speak and speak he did turning the air blue in the process!
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
I suspect that sergeant split a few words inserting an expletive between some syllables B)

As for vehicle design, I find a lot of it either boring or ridiculously extreme these days. Don't think many will go down as classics years from now, but maybe I'll be wrong given the current interest in video gaming.

The ES is more akin to the Avalon as they are built on the same chassis. Of course this chassis is probably a stretched Camry chassis.

My son's Saudi girlfriend got one of those when her parents left the country. She promptly smashed it up. Still ran but started developing problems. One night she came crying about how it wouldn't shift. I checked the auto tranny fluid and found it a couple quarts low. A little fluid fixed it and thereafter she thought of me as some sort of car guru. Sweet girl but real batty.

I need to charge up the iPhone 4 someone gave me and play around. I know there's a big push on the last six months (longer really) to make the site workable on mobile (it won't be long until more people access Edmunds via mobile than on a "regular" device, if it hasn't already happened). The forums aren't in the front of the push though, probably because we don't host the forums in house.
