I don't fit in here. I am much more interested in the 2 volvos behind the roadmaster, than in any old barge!
Something for everyone here. Live and let live. I didn't even look in the background. That picture could go on up on the topic where everyone tries to identify the various cars in the picture...
Imid, is the Invicta the cheaper model and the Roadmaster the upscale model?
Nice catch for a play on the names. I love puns especially double and triple puns.
That Buick in the top picture is really cool looking. What year and model?
Those were the days when cars were real cars...they all looked completely different. I like the flared out front fenders and they way they did small rounded fins in the back. No worries about wind resistance either....just make it as stylish as possible.

That is a 1960 model. The picture says it is a Buick Invicta.
Absolutely. And the lower pic is a Roadmaster, 1967????
I apologize--I should have labeled them. I knew it was Invicta followed by Roadmaster, but others wouldn't have known.
That Roadmaster is a late 50's model, possibly 1957? My brother had a 1958 Roadmaster when I was in junior high, about 1964 or so. That one looks very similar

Yes, that one is a 1957 model. Just a typo by @imidazol97.
The '59 Buick was a love it or hate it style but the 1960 was a very nice design upgrade and the '61 was even better again.
Grrr. Found a large scratch on the ATS today. The odd part is: I hand-washed it Saturday night and it wasn't there then. I went out to dinner and then to a friend's place Sunday night and it wasn't there then either, as another friend who is anal about such things was examining the car closely as he is considering buying one. The car was in the driveway all day yesterday and did not move. This morning I took a quick trip to a nearby DeWalt store to order a part I needed. I saw it when I got home from there. I can only figure that's when it happened even though I was only in the place maybe 5 minutes.
It was on the upper part of the passenger-side A-pillar and extended pretty much across the entire width of it. I happened to do a walk-around when I got home and spotted it. Fortunately I had some Meguiars Scratch-X in the garage and used it on it right away. Much to my surprise, since I haven't been all that impressed with the product prior to this, it seemed to take it right out. Time will tell though, as I have seen with this product before that scratches sometimes reappear after you think they are gone. Can't imagine it was deliberate. Maybe someone was carrying something out of the store and brushed up against it.
Are those of you accessing this board via mobile still having the issues? I am still having the funky display issues. Are we ever going to get this fixed? Thanks.
Took the truck in for it's first service today. Wanted to get oil change and tires rotated before we go on vacation in a couple of weeks. Also asked them to adjust the right side rear door which didn't close as easily as the other side. The SA asked me how many miles, so I said 73+. She says 'Do you have an extended service plan'? I say 'No, I've only had it about 7 months Why would I need one?'. After we went back and forth a few times, she realized I meant 7,300 miles not 73,000. It is a 2014. Good news is the door closes as it should now.

1959/60 GM cars are interesting to me. However, you never seem to see either Harley Earl or his successor, Bill Mitchell associated with that 2 year design span. 1961 was all Mitchell.
Well, my first day at the new job is in the books. Buying the loaded 2 Series was definitely a blessing since the iDrive, Navigation, and most other systems pretty much carry over to all of the current cars(except for the new 7 Series, which has enough technology and processing power to control an interplanetary space mission). No "problem" customers yet- I know I'll encounter some, but so far, so good.

Mississauga Ontario.
That house is about 30 miles from me....at one time I lived about 5 miles away. We have gas heat but my wife is not a fan....as she says, every year you hear about a few houses that just blow up.
It will be interesting to see what the actual cause was, there is a press conference this morning. It seems only one person died and no other serious injuries, incredible considering the damage done....WOW!
Has anyone seen the Chinese built Buick Envision up close and personal? I have not, but from pictures the interior looks very nice but the exterior styling not so much. At $42K+ plus a copy GM does not expect to sell many of those....and perhaps that's why they chose to import rather than manufacture in the U.S.
With VW/Audi paying out huge amounts of money for itscrimes about its diesel mileage and pollution levesl, one of the TV shows I saw a day or so ago showed an Ad from VW with one of the 3 old ladies holding her white scarf over the exhaust of a VW/Audi diesel as a way of "proving" how "clean" the diesel was (at least while connected to the test equipment LOL).
I can't find that video anywhere. It along with lots of others posters say have been scrubbed from the internet. Or locked as private. Does anyone have an idea about a site that archives things or some other way to get it?

It sat in one at the Buick dealer last week. I thought it was actually good looking, in a clean, almost "elegant" way, but I do tend to like simple designs more than overwrought "look at me" ones.
the interior was well done. Seats seemed comfy, and design did not bother me. I assume it had plenty of stuff on it. But this one was 46K, and did not even have a moonroof! Ah, no. Can get a nice car at plenty of other places for less than that, even better equipped (Q5, RDX).
I've been talking to a couple of friends who own TDIs and aren't sure what to do. It is something of a dilemma. What I advised was that to take the money and let them "fix" the cars if....IF...it's just a software repair, but if their cars require Urea tanks and all the plumbing, to not do that and just sell the car back to VW.
No matter which way it goes, they won't be happy---especially if they have to buy another car, even with getting "book value" for theirs.
I suspect MPG is going to go down on the ones being "fixed", which of course was the whole point in buying it in the first place.
What a mess.
I think it was Q who mentioned that he's seeing the depreciation hit on the TDIs manifesting itself in dealer wholesale auctions.
There is definitely an air of uncertainty about them. Can't blame people. I am still waiting till the dust settles, personally. I am just glad I never wound up buying one, no matter what happens.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
Makes sense, but I have no idea how California will handle this--if they will "grandfather" them all or require a fix. Probably some kind of CARB sticker.
I bet a lot of people want to get the check and somehow avoid the repair.
Exactly. It will be difficult to know what to do until some of the repairs are done and people report their real-world experiences with the result. If performance or economy suffers significantly I would take the money and get something else or just keep the un-fixed car.
Most will take the money and run. It is hard to give up performance to save a bit on cost of gas, and few people are going to worry about the extra pollution their car is causing......when it comes down to dollars and cents.
My friend's son expects to get about $2000 back for a 6 year old car, but, he will never have the engine adjusted and give up any power when his Jetta needs every horse it has.

I can see a burgeoning black market in reinstalling the cheat software after owners have taken the payoffs. Some people would have no problem cheating the system to get their performance back.

Anyone else having problems with these web pages bouncing around? I'm using Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge. Starting yesterday whenever I click into this site, the browser ends up further down than where I just was. For example, if I close a subject marked yellow, it will go down the page past several other yellow marked subjects. Not having this issue on any other website and have virus detection software. Maybe ad pop-up interference?
Windows 10 is always to blame - apparently that is the new all-purpose reason for any non-Apple computer problem.
I have it on one machine and don't like it much. I have never even tried Edge as IE was so bad I cannot imagine another MS browser would be acceptable. I am keeping Win 7 on my main machine as long as possible.
I'm not real cool on Windows 10 so far. I find Windows 7 preferable because it seems more organized. But Edge does seem to be noticeably faster than Explorer, and it is "supposed" to be more secure. I've been a bit hesitant to download Chrome because Google has such a reputation (true or not) for spying on you.
But I sure don't understand the rather weird page loading on this site now that I just started experiencing. Edge didn't do this until starting yesterday, and it is not happening on any other website I use.
So I've been experimenting on this problem. Does not happen in Explorer, only Edge. Seems to happen when site pop ups are loading, but can't be absolutely sure that is involved.
I am keeping Win 7 on my main machine as long as possible.
Microsoft will automatically upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 unless you block the download and the installation.
Control Panel => Systems & Security => Windows Update => Turn Automatic Updating On or Off => Choose “Check for Updates but let me choose whether to Down Load & Install” from the dropdown menu.
And yes, the ad banner across the top of the page must load before the remainder of the page.

stick, thanks for that. The $46K model you sat in was the 2016. The 2017's are coming out this fall and will start at a lower price point of $33k or so. Don't understand the marketing strategy but GM has been at this for over a 100 years.
Just watching something on self-driving cars. Evidently people (I'm guessing young people) can't wait for them to become available. Me, I want nothing to do with them.
To me the whole purpose of a car is for the driving experience. The sense of control and the challenge of skillfully getting to your destination. I'd rather take a cab or bus than pay money for a vehicle that took that away from me.
The only reason I'd want a self-driver would be if I were drunk or senile. Are people nowadays so involved in their mobile devices that they no longer enjoy driving?

So, because this has been probably the most......let me see...what's a good description.....interesting?.....trying?..... mind numbing?.....years of my life, I decided to take a break.
On a whim, booked a last minutre cruise out of Miami, visiting Belize, Costa Maya, and somewhere else I can't recall, leaving this Sunday.
They throw in a lot of alleged "freebies" on these cruises...like free alcohol, and free internet.
Perhaps I'll take the ole laptop with me and post occassionally from the high seas, while sipping on umbrella drinks.
