There is my insurance company and there is my broker. Over 2 weeks ago I explained to the insurance company that the Premium Pkge ($5000 option) on the 2015 car had the same features as the Premium Pkge ($3000) on the 2017, but I would need to get the Tech Pkge (additional $2600) on the 2017 to have all the features I had on the 2015 (including 360 degree camera, enhanced adjusting LED light system, and auto headlight system). After 2 weeks the insurance company emailed me the same payment for the new car.....without adding in the $2600.
One call to the broker and he was like, let me get a hold of them, it doesn't sound right. He finally got them this afternoon, he said they should email me a new agreement $2600 higher, and I am to call him back if there is any problem.

Catch me if you can...
I think business models are different than they used to be. Mindset of meeting next quarter targets is everywhere, not just publicly traded companies. Think about it - if so-called "best retail bank" (that did not need the bailout during the crisis and was supposed to be a beacon of the "honest banking") had five thousand people feeling compelled to cheat their clients to meet unrealistic sales quotas, you can only imagine what happens in companies that are not so great.

Some bean counter must have figured that if they wear people down long enough a certain number will just give up and the savings will outweigh the ill-will generated.
Also they may just run it through a computer to determine payout and the computer can't see what a human readily could so the same result gets spit out again and again.

Dino, I think you nailed it! Companies, presidents and the executives just want to get through each quarter successfully. They don't care about long term affects....just save their [non-permissible content removed]'s for another quarter so they can collect their huge salaries for the next quarter.
OF, I don't even think they use a computer for this kind of work. My insurance expert friend said he got the impression the adjuster I was dealing with was pretty far down and was working from home. I think she is the first line of defense, they try to get her to work on you for awhile. When you see you are getting nowhere with her you may go to the next level. Don't forget, somewhere in there they got a quote from the lowball dealer too, all part of the tactics. My insurance expert friend said I have to go to my broker next. If that didn't work I would have to talk to an executive at the insurance company, and if that doesn't work you can argue what the statutory conditions of the policy are...I think that is done with an arbitrator.
Accident happened about 7 weeks ago, this should have been all done in a week or two.
It was lucky we looked into the price of a new model 2 days after the accident. If we hadn't done that I probably would have accepted the first lower offer, I wouldn't know the Premium Package had been split in two.
Mike update; Had the surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago. Just came out of it 3 days ago. They got all the cancer. He will have a long slow recovery, first thing will be to start rehabilitation, walking in the hallways at the hospital. Could be some cardiac issues. Seems to have gone about as well as it could go for now. I will say hi from you all, I know you wish him all the best.

Maybe I should go away more often.

I remember seeing a white Vette like that last year parking in a lot near me. Driver that got out made me look young. Dude had to be pushing 70, and looked like he belonged parking in front of a medical arts building! As a customer.
Don't knock it...I'm past that but not needing the medical stuff and happy about that.
The way I look at it, as long as I'm on this side of the dirt, age don't mean nothin.

Speaking of life and death, I watched a good chunk of Arnold Palmer's memorial service earlier. Some really great speakers and tributes, and more than a few funny stories. Capped it all off with a flyover of his Citation jet. What a way to go out. AP was a pretty cool dude.

I stumbled onto this 1987 film by Citroen titled Citroen CX Coast to Coast. It has not a single word of dialog but some cool music and scenery, a handsome guy and a very pretty lady, and a pair of Citroen CX sedans in all sorts of settings. I found it quite entertaining for both the film itself and the '80s image of cutting-edge automotive tech!
Oh you are testing my memory. Back in the late 80's I dated a French lady who loved Citroen. One day while driving through an industrial area I found a Citroen that looked like the ones in the video with a for sale sign on it. I told my (then) girlfriend about it and she snapped that baby up. It was a smooth and nice handling car.

Not a bean counter but an adjuster who figured that out. It's their performance that is gauged on the results here.

I've been experiencing some big screen TV envy. My daughter's fiancé has a 70 incher and yesterday we went one of my BIL's to watch the Cowboys/49'ers on his 65 inch. Although it looks perfectly fine, I'm going to cave and upgrade to a 55 from my current 46. Good news for my other kid is that she is getting the 46. Still looking for another vehicle. On another note, yesterday I was happy be cause I saw a jagged piece of metal in the road on the next street over and avoided it. This morning, my wife called me and said she had a flat tire. I asked her if she drove on the same street and she said 'Yes'. The tire was sliced and couldn't patched, so $285 later she has a new tire. At least she didn't have to replace all 4.

More like the bean counter assigned zero value to ill-will since it doesn't have an effect on this year's numbers.

Don't cash a check for a lesser value. I wouldn't put it past an insurance company to claim a cashed check equals agreement to whatever amount is on the check. If they write checks and send them out for lower values, some people might not be able to resist cashing a big check, even if it is lower than it should be.
A more reputable company would probably make you sign a settlement before sending out any big checks.

I'm 60 and I don't know if I could do it now. Young women don't want anything to do with old guys and women my own age don't particularly interest me, at least the ones I've met. It's weird.
Following up on the story I told you guys about a month ago where my best friend's sister in law was a passenger in that Infiniti. A few things didn't add up. The fact that it was 4:30 in the morning and the guy wasn't drunk and wasn't speeding. He said he was going 50 in a 55. The speed limit was 35, so yes going 15 mph over isn't THAT fast, but how does this guy remember exactly how fast he was going? My friend's mother in law is a nurse and practiced at the hospital the her daughter was taken to after the crash. She asked some of her former colleagues to "look the other way" while the driver's stats were on the screen. The guy was definitely drunk. Very drunk. The 4 people in the car got their phones back from the police. The phones had been wiped clean. The driver's father was a deceased, well known, Sheriff in the county. My friend's sister in law is recovering (which is the most important part), but it is just terrible that he's going to get the insurance money, put it down on a new car, go out, get drunk, and crash again.
@graphicguy - I know you've mentioned before about a friend of yours who has 2 children, one of whom is a complete addict. In addition to that, there are thousands just like it. I read about a 7 year old girl who got on the bus in McKeesport, PA and told the bus driver that her parents wouldn't wake up. They ODd with a 5 year old, 3 year old, & infant in the house.
My parents recently ran into the parents of a friend of mine at Rosh Hashanna services who I went to High School with (we are still friends on facebook). My parents were with my niece who is 6 years old. These people too had their 6 year old grand daughter with them. They start to chat. Ask how I am and How I'm doing. My parents ask about their son who I was friendly with (lives in FL with his wife and 2 kids, doing well). They then begin to tell my parents that they are at temple with their 6 year old grand daughter whom they have full custody of. Their daughter has been in and out of rehab close to 20 times over the past x amount of years. She is permitted 2 supervised visits per month that she misses half the time. She has 2 other children from a previous marriage that her ex-husband has full custody of. My friend's Dad had retired, then had to open his dental practice back up to start raising their grand daughter with his wife (the girl's grand mother). Growing up these people were so warm, so giving, and so kind. This has to stop.

I am no expert but from my old-guy perspective it seems that drug use and addiction is tolerated/accepted now, much more than it used to be. It was generally something to be ashamed of. Once you hit rock bottom or people who loved you intervened, you would get off the stuff or at least try damn hard. Now they have safe injection sites, tolerance of drug manufacture, distribution and usage - it seems the police only lay charges for those things as leverage for other charges - opioid OD antidotes that let addicts keep ODing without killing themselves... and of course weed is more common in some places than tobacco use nowadays.

I hope the guy is young enough that this was just a stupid mistake he does one time. I also hope he's old enough to realize the error of his ways and not repeat the same mistake twice or more; called learning from your mistakes.
I realize this is only a hope. Many drunk drivers do have multiple offenses, and I'm sure they have gotten away with it countless times if they've been caught more than once.

Then again, I remember going to the bootlegger with my Daddy in his '53 Buick and not only did the sheriff know about the bootlegging, all the county sheriffs were on the take raking in the black market tax on booze Mississippi had back in the 50s and 60s.

Been there done that.
While hitchhiking from Starkville, MS (Mississippi State) to Jonesboro AR. (Arkansas State) in 1961, a friend and I were picked up by a carload of half drunk girls somewhere around Tupelo. They drove down a dirt road back into the woods to an old shack with a drive-thru window and bought a couple of pints of some cheap liquor. A few hours of riotous fun ensued before we continued our journey. Oh, to be young and stupid again !!
The one I knew about was just south of there in Verona. Let me guess, and then y'all went to Dudie's Diner for ten cent hamburgers, or went looking for Elvis at Sherer's Drive-In?
Read above for a hilarious example of gov't bureaucracy run amok. Total and utter waste. My fine is somehow around $540 for running a circular red light; must be a "north county" add-on assessment to pay for certain town's red-light scameras.

Henryn, I would not give up hope if you really want to meet someone. Personally, I think a woman can be extremely attractive at 60+ and quite often are more sensible.
I would go to things where you can just do something you enjoy and meet like minded people...church, the gym, a sport, senior center, golf, bowling, choir, pickleball, badminton, volunteering, walking club, etc. Just start talking and you may meet someone you just have things in common with....look for similar values and interests. Life is better on your own if you are with the wrong person, but, life is so much richer with someone you can talk to and share things with. btw...there are more women than men as you get older, and some women really appreciate finding a decent guy.
If you join a group that is doing something that you want to do, you won't be disappointed, you will have a good time getting together, and if you meet someone it will be a big bonus.

My wife is still jealous of any other woman. Hates it if any female calls the house. I kind of like it.
As far as dating at my age, I'd question the motives or the sanity of any woman who would like to go out with me.

I'm jealous of the young.

Maybe he'll be retired before the next big insurance company bailouts.
A more reputable company would probably make you sign a settlement before sending out any big checks.

I'm 60 and I don't know if I could do it now. Young women don't want anything to do with old guys and women my own age don't particularly interest me, at least the ones I've met. It's weird.

I realize this is only a hope. Many drunk drivers do have multiple offenses, and I'm sure they have gotten away with it countless times if they've been caught more than once.

Read above for a hilarious example of gov't bureaucracy run amok. Total and utter waste. My fine is somehow around $540 for running a circular red light; must be a "north county" add-on assessment to pay for certain town's red-light scameras.

Filled with rust and creaks
Headed for the potholes of life
Been feeling this bad for weeks
I've got those Studebaker, those 1950 Studebaker blues
My fan belts frayed
My tires are bald
The spark plus need a changing
And last night I even stalled
I've got those Studebaker, those 1950 Studebaker blues
