When AARP got involved in big politics on gov't medical care 8 years back, I took a good look at their operation. They are in business to make older folks think they are in business to benefit the older folks. Instead, they're in business to benefit AARP. They mostly just rake off a commission on selling services to older folks, whether insurance products, investment products, and so on. Note, I don't say "senior citizens" because long ago AARP expanded their base by starting at age 50 or so, so it's "older folks."

I buy my services elsewhere. AAA. State Farm, Aetna, Voya.

Triple A isn't a motorist group advocate as they claim. They sold out to their insurance arm interests in the name of money by supporting Unconstitutional Red Light Cameras that have been shown to have a negative affect on collisions (increased collisions) at some intersections.

I've been getting mail from them pretty regularly and another envelope showed up today. Thinking about it but wanted to solicit opinions.

BTW, just flew back from Cincinnati today .... had Skyline Chili for lunch. Man, I missed that.

I think AARP caved in on every important issue for retired people. I wouldn't give them a dime personally, but they do offer a Medicare supplemental drug plan that's okay---you don't have to be a member to get that.

Thanks all for the support. I know how this works. First, you go to Cadillac Customer Service to log a complaint. I did that. Interesting note there, they clearly know of the issue. They admit that relatively few cars were affected, insinuating their repair is not high on their priority list. I guess on the positive side, that means they are operating transparently divulging that. Cadillac Customer Service said they escalated the issue to some sort of "grand PooBah", who said there was nothing they could do as it was a manufacturing issue. Customer Service closed the case with me under the designation "unacceptable". There really was nothing to accept to begin with. The CTS needs parts. It's undriveable. They said they wouldn't have parts for over a month (that's on top of the month+ they've already had my car in the dealer service bay). And, it was optimistic they could even get them then. So, not sure what it was I was supposed to accept.

Had a sit down with the Zone Manager. That amounted to little more than lip service.

Dealership has been coopreative, sending me all of their paperwork, complete with the recall notice (similar to the one AB found).

Filed Lemon Law last night. That means Cadillac will pull loaner car support, and the dealer will ask for the loaner to be returned.

I think this will turn into a legan battle, but following their confounding process, I filed with BBB first. They'll contact me in a week or so. But, all they'll do is get a repeate of everything Cadillac has told me. We'll come to an impass and the case will be closed as "unresolved".

    Then, legal proceedings will begin.

I don't see this resolved until Spring!

    Will keep you posted.

Yeah, the last thing I need in my life is a lemon from GM and a lemon law dispute claim with them.

Solution for me: Don't even think about buying one of their products.

I'm glad to wait for the day another manufacturer (outside of original Big 3) sells me a lemon. I'm betting it won't happen in my lifetime.

They are very useful in terms of discounts. I've gotten more discounts on travel from them than AARP. The travel agency service is excellent. Their emergency services are really good too.

Kind of like my Sonata. Not as powerful (but I could have gotten the 2.0T motor), but loaded to the gills with goodies, for way less than the luxo brands. If I get something new or newer later this year, will most likely be something like a loaded Civic/Accord type car (depending on size I want). New Accord will be out by the end of the year too!

at least your Caddy has to be resolved one way or the other in a few months. They have your car apart. So they can't possible trot out the "operating as designed" excuse. No question to fight there. So you hit the time limit, and what can they say? Or they fix it finally, and you get it back and go sell it.

Fighting them to admit a defect when the car still runs must be the real nightmare situation.

It definitely ain't running. I saw it a couple of weeks ago. The engine bay looks like Beirut!
I'd like to see car companies start to voluntarily replace lemons with either a refund or another car, rather than run a customer through delay tactics and confrontation.

They shouldn't much care, it's the taxpayers money for the stock losses they never paid back after all.

    28FF, again, congrats!
GG, wow, sorry for the pain and suffering. My XF was MIA for a week and a half, missed it. But, afaik, dealer did a good job, had a loaner, a lot of warranty work done and car came back shiny clean. But, when warranty is up...
    Mike: Glad/hope all is well.

The ex and I were a two income family, around 50/50 until I was downsized in the mid '90s. Retrained for new career, good timing, it didn't take me long to match/exceed my prior income (once I started working, that is). Luckily, her income kept rising. I did an ok job managing our meager incomes, we bought a couple of houses, had a couple of kids and, barring unforeseen circumstances, will put them both through college. As well as be able to retire. Of course, she thought I was a cheap b@st@rd... And, of course, I've lost half of my stuff! But, living in the Boston area, it would have been tough/impossible to do all this with only one income. It can be done, but certainly not easily.

I bought a condo last June, after ex. bought me out of our house. 2 bed/2 bath, walk to local town location in a decent suburb of Boston. One garage space, nice common outdoor area with pool/hot tub. Mortgage/interest/HOA/prop taxes/insurance is about the same as my former rent was for a 1bed/bath apartment (which was also in a great location). Throw in tax bennys and I feel better about owning. Also, I paid the lowest price for a 2 bed in the complex in years! But, not an investment as much as it's my home.

Not a member of AARP or AAA.

AB...we just view it differently. I feel like a pinata...smacked around by Cadillac....2+ mos being without my car because I don't matter enough for them to pull parts to fix the car I bought.

Probably going to have to start shopping quickly. I know as soon as I file Lemon Law, Cadillac won't reimburse the dealership for the loaner. So, will need something once they want their loaner back.

    I don't even know what I want.

Come on down to Louisville and let me put you in a BMW today! :D;)

GG, I think you mentioned either your Caddie dealer was an indie or it was from a car group. If they have a Honda dealer you could possibly make a deal where you get a new Honda, and they take the Caddie trade in one day when it is actually roadworthy (they will know the value 1 or 2 months from now).

I like to negotiate when possible. This keeps you in their dealer network, they sell a new car, and they can resell the CTS better than anyone else.

Just the fact that even one of their network dealers isn't interested in the CTS may help to win your argument...if they don't have the confidence the car will be ready soon how could you have any confidence?

Regarding credit reports and scores (FICO, etc.), prior to my buying my new car, my score was in the 800's for the Beacon Score (care buying score) and my FICO was 798. Now that I have a new loan ($25,000) on the new car, my FICO score dropped to 769 even though I have 0 balances on all my revolving credit. I guess they consider me a bit more risky to lend money to. From what I understand, in about 6 months, as I make payments on the car, my score should go up again. I have no mortgage and I purposely pay off my balances on my credit cards before the closing date to show 0 balances.

Anyone want to loan me a few hundred thousand? B)

I imagine the dealer doesn't like your CTS taking up room in their garage, either. I would think they would be pressing for the parts.

My buddy had a son 19 years ago and was determined to indoctrinate him into his muscle car ways. It all went according to plan until the boy got to about 14-15 and then he abandoned the Detroit 3 and developed an obsession for Japanese drift cars. He currently has a 240Z in dad's garage in a state of disrepair after drifting it straight into a guardrail. :(

We named him Samuel (Sam), for my maternal grandfather. His middle name is actually my MIL's maiden name - we are passing it on as a middle name because there are no boys on that side of the family that will carry it on.

    A "prophetic" name - nice!  I approve.   B)

    Ditto. Sam I am !

You guys crack me up. I suggested his middle name be Porsche. My wife was not amused.

We are so overjoyed with this little guy. Life sure is about to be different.

I can't wait to get him indoctrinated into our car obsessions.

Well you should have been playing engine noises to him while he was still in the womb, but there's still time!

I agree there is some regret going backwards. When I'm in the Kia I miss my (even accident damaged) S4.

However, when I'm enjoying the drive in the TTS with the forged 19x9's that the Kia's economy helped pay for, I'm happy.

On the topic of introducing the young ones into our car obsessed culture, I offer the following (She was still 2 at the time she got her first operable car):

It's an Audi R8 Spyder E-Tron (6V). I told her not to go on the gravel, for she would get stuck. Her Audi isn't properly equipped with Quattro, in fact, it's 1-wheel drive! :open_mouth: Even at 3 now she still hasn't got the hang of driving and steering; she gets frustrated easily and gives up quickly when it comes to driving.

For those wondering what the options packages include, it has LED headlights and FM radio (yes, it works). It also has a few sound effects and a simulated horn.
