I will check on the transmission
  • mudman2mudman2 Member Posts: 152
I think this is the correct information. Asian Trnasmission Co. was setup as a joint venture by Nisho-Iwai Co., Ltd., Mitsubishi Motors Corp., and Chrysler Philippines. I believe the Jeep used an early version. The company may now be solely owned by Mitsubishi and their main engine and transmission plant is in the Philippines.

I also believe specific designs are prduced for Honda, Lexus, Mazda, Mazda, Infiniti, Nissan and Toyota.

In other words they are the best in the world with that customer list.

Did we expect anything less ?

(Hope this is the right company, sounds it)
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
for the info......I think the design and requirements were input by Porsche (naturally) but since this tranny excelled and is proven, then they just added/ modified it so it would suit Porsches' needs. I don't feel any clunking of the trans, do you ??

Let me know how well the mods go ? I am pretty sure I will get it...but probably not the chip. Just filter and bypass. Where are you planning on taking it next ??
  • mudman2mudman2 Member Posts: 152
I read about someone dyno'ing an S at 365 following a chip and filters change.

I don't know what I am at right now but I may wait to see if the chips come down in price. Unless I see something new and exciting of course.

Apart from that just enjoying the drive.

keep us posted and smile when you drive !!! I am , and I'm going to the SantaCruz Mountains tomorrow and visiting Canepa Designs to see what they can do in terms of DVD entertainment...they specialize in suburbans and Hummers...maybe they will work on the Cay. Perhaps even the other mods, but they do charge an arm and leg.

    Have fun.
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
that the Cayenne also has a magneto-rheological suspension /shocks...Is that true ?? I never read about it either in company brochure or the Cayenne book. Is it just misinformation ? What is going on ? I thought the SRX was the only one that has it...?

When you get 5 minutes, call your dealer and ask if they have heard of 2 software updates which are rumoured to be floating around.

1 - PCMII Version 3.0 ( for Navtech latest issue map disks

2 - Drive by Wire update to smooth transitions in high gears otherwise known as lurching.

I have not been able to find out anything here

    Thanks
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
will do. I have not heard anything yet...but will keep my ears peeled.

BTW, the most recent issue of JDPowers Magazine, showed that the car company with the best initial quality is ......Porsche AG...beat everybody in terms of overall company quality.

Breaking it down, then it was Lexus 1st, then Infiniti, then Buick (!!!), then Porsche.

Not bad for such a small car maker .... :-)

The lastest version for the PST2 is v.18.0, and it was released about three weeks ago. He says this nwe version now permits the technician to reset the latest (corrected) run map for the DME.
I am not technical but he said they flashed the Thats pretty outstanding !

Here is a post from another board FYI

The lastest version for the PST2 is v.18.0, and it was released about three weeks ago. He says this new version now permits the technician to reset the latest (corrected) run map for the DME.
I am not technical but he said they flashed the DME so as to be able to load the new run map. The flashing of course removes the old learned behavior (last 50 starts?). The hesitation we experience is the original run map's bug allowed a slight hesitation which the DME interpreted to be your driving style....so it was a loop, it "saw" aggressive driving and kept trying to adapt.
All I can say is that it worked on mine.....drives very normal.

i'll bring it in next time.
enjoy your awesome drive, man. To quote what some teens said to me( at 1st I didn't understand) "its' off the hook !" and " this car is clean..!" ......LOLL

    Just an update.

Did some experimenting with Susp. settings and performance effects.

    Conclusions:

1 - little difference in cornering performance between Sport and Comfort modes.

I noticed this on I80 which has some good hills, rough surface (concrete ripples) and sweeping high speed curves. I went to comfort mode to reduce noise, but noticed that on the curves at speed the suspension really kicked in, leveling the car as I gently held the curves, felt like I was on rails.

2 - Sport mode has greatest effect reducing cross wind buffeting.

These conclusions based on 2 90+ runs, 4 up, V1 active. Passengers did not even notice the speed.

    Love it

i wanted to tell you all i found 800 over invoice from www.paramountporsche.com
and also $1000 over invoice from CT dealers.
im still looking for the best car and price. will post
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
sounds great..... I am looking forward to doing some mods myself.....I think perhaps early next year.

Yes, I think the handling system self adjusts so quick that even if you are in comfort mode, the system will make the tires stick. I do notice a softer ride when going straight over ripples and bumps.

awesome car. I 'm bring it in on Monday to have the hatch fixed.....I broke it. :-(

How would one go about getting a Fabspeed mod on the West Coast / Silicon Valley?
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
i think you can get it thru the net/mailorder.

    www.fabspeed.com

Any local muffler shop should be able to handle the job. I would Save the old 2nd stage cats, though.

    Am I close, mudman ?

interior, and with the kids eating and drinking its been a mess. The carpets get dirty so easily. I think the grey or black carpets should be put in these cars for better wear and hides dirt better.

Just brought it into dealer today to fix the rear hatch. Told them to upgrade everything to date.....software or recalls. Also to clean up the mess, since we bought the interior warranty. Hope they do their job.... :-)

I just sold my BMW740i and am ready to purchase the Cayenne S for it's versatility and for the tax relief.

My question: is the air suspension worth the $ 3200 premium? I have not tested the regular suspension vs the air but would like some observations from those of you who have.
  • roeldlsroeldls Member Posts: 3
thanks for your input on the air suspension...
cayennes with the air suspension are fairly rare in combination with PCM, but I'll hold out until I find that vehicle.
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
not because of the price, but because you will have more control over your ride. I like the sport mode, which is just a tad stiffer than the regular spring susp., but my in-laws prefer comfort mode, so I must satisfy them. The car handles great anyway. If you go offroad, then get it. If you want to save $3200, then perhaps not.

Well I just found out (via an ad here on edmunds) that Porsche has a Cayenne model lower than the S for '04. I can't believe I didn't read one hint of this in any of the magazines I subscibe to. Prices starting at just under $43K (put some options & push the price up to maybe $50K and you've got a legit X5 competitor) for a V6 powerplant (is this a transplant from VW?), it looks to be somewhat of a good value. Does anybody have anymore information? You can't find any here on edmunds and you can't "build your own" yet with the Porsche Car Configurator.

One of my customers has a Cayenne Turbo (Black w/ Brown Interior) and I think it just looks great!

some information about the V6 in another forum. This indicated a 0-62 (100kph) time of 9.1 seconds with a top speed of 133 mph for the six. The engine is reported to be sourced from VW but modified by Porsche. Availability is believed to be in the spring of 04. Performance seems close to the current T-reg V6 so a drive in that should give a pretty good idea of how the Cayenne would perform.
  • svinaiksvinaik Member Posts: 84
has anyone put any winter tires on Cayenne. Any recommendations and how much did they cost.

    Thanks
  • mudman2mudman2 Member Posts: 152
The V6 Treg may seem a good comparison but everyone who's done it say its no where near the same, even my dealer who also sells VW.

    Take an S out.
  • califjohncalifjohn Member Posts: 101
the V6 Pepper had reached our shores yet. I am sure the European version has been tested and reported on in their automotive media. My comment was only intended to suggest that a way of getting an idea of V6 performance was to drive a very similar vehicle with a similar engine, in this case the T-reg. I agree totally that to experience the Cayenne you should drive one.
  • nyccarguynyccarguy Member Posts: 17,235
Well I got home tonight and autoweek was sitting in my mailbox, any guesses to what the reviewed? C'mon you people are smart:)

It says the 3.2L V6 is borrowed from VW. Porsche designed the intake.

    EPA Numbers are 15/19

They say the 9.1 second 0-60 time is with a 6 speed manual (Figure a hair under/over 10 for the Tip). They commented on the V6 Cayenne's "wide, flat torque band." It seems like the numbers for this 5000 pound Porsche don't tell the whole story (as with most cars).

They say a good comparo is between the V6 Cayenne and the V8 Toureg.

Does anybody with a Cayenne know how tall the inside cargo area is (with the seats folded down)?

by Natalie Neff was the first review I have seen on the V6 Pepper. It appears tho' that the 6 speed stick will not reach the US yet and the tiptronic version will be what they are sending us. She does compare the V6 Pepper to the T-reg V8 but mainly IMHO for the standard equipment offered and not so much for the performance of the two. She concludes the V8 T-reg seems to offer more features for about $2K less. I found the article on the www.autoweek.com website through the "search" block by entering "2004 Porsche Cayenne V6".

Has anyone been experiencing electrical problems with their Cayenne S? I lost a controller and the servo motors that operate the hatch and the gas cap door. After they were repaced, my battery drained and could not hold a charge. They replaced the battery and it drained again. The dealer traced the entire electrical system and could not find anything.
  • califjohncalifjohn Member Posts: 101
you will let us know how they fix your Pepper's electrical problem. Battery drain seems to be a weak spot in both the T-reg and to a lesser extent the Cayenne. Same wiring I guess. I wonder if one of those auxiliary "plug in the lighter socket" power packs would be a worthwhile thing to carry "just in case"? Good luck and I hope you get everything fixed in time for a great holiday!

I seek a little advice. I am considering buying a Cayenne S by yr end for tax purposes. I see a number of posts re: poor quality, especially electronics. Are most of you seeing these kinds of problems, or is this unusual? Some of the issues seem based in the complexity of settable options. Any help in this area is much appreciated.
  • jsballenger5jsballenger5 Member Posts: 1
Taking the S in for 15,000 service. Very, very pleased. No idiosyncracies or other issues mentioned on this board, just smooth six speed performance. I drive the car very hard and it is what I expected it to be. Traded M5 and like the S better....not the same car for sure, but quality and performance are all up to spec. I have about $10k worth of options and all function, but utility may be marginal depending on your needs. Only regret is that I did not buy the TT, but the S will deliver in all of my driving situations. I test drove the G500, RR, FX and 4.6 X5, Cayenne was easy choice except for beauty of RR, RR has higher wind noise though.

I have owned a Cayenne S for a few days now...they are definitely worth it. I chose the air suspension package, I like the options, and the ride height control is key for off road use, or mountain roads. I have had no problems with electrical or otherwise...this is a high-quality porsche that can go places no other can.

Great car, replaced an Audi A6 for me, and it drives smoother when needed, stronger all of the time, and handles like a dream on mountain or windy roads. One of the annoying factors, people stop you every where you go to ask about the car...this is not a volks wagon.

When you test drive the tourag, and an x5, and then stop by the porsche dealer the same day...there is no substitute in handling, ride, or quality of the vehicle.

Any comments about the Cayenne handling in snow?
  • imegaryimegary Member Posts: 6
I had the following problems. At 0 miles horn would not beep on closing, the lights would blink if set, but horn no way. At dealer component changed it now works with one key only. When second key is used it wipes out the horn setting and all other setting and I must reprogram.

First time drive the A/c just acted on its own putting different modes on randomly including REST which just fogged the windows so bad I could not drive. This was fixed at dealer with rewiring of pinched wires and a completly new control head.

I have two other unsolved issues....constant warning of needing service ......lights do not go on when raining and wipers on.

Dealer says new software on way and I will be notified.

Any comments would be appreciated. I love the car!

Cayenne S in a month or 2 when I sell my truck. Could you recommend a dealer that is doing $1000 or so above invoice?
    thanks
  • llspepper2llspepper2 Member Posts: 17
The best I've found so far for the 'S' in the Bay area is $1500 over invoice. I'm looking to purchase one now. Any help would be appreciated. Just found this thread....great info..thank you.

I test drove the S model and was very impressed. I had pretty much settled on the new Range Rover...until today. I would appreciate any and all input from the folks on this board. I read about reliabilty and electrical problems with both vehicles. I would welcome any advice. Thanks.
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
I would recommend you look at the Oakland dealership and give them an offer. They were more willing to deal than the others in the Bay Area, IMO.
  • llspepper2llspepper2 Member Posts: 17
for march-april delivery. The V6 I'm told will be in dealerships this month. Wonder with the lower price point if the dealers might be less willing to deal on the V8s. Just a thought.

I plan on buying a Cayenne S with the PASM System. I am not certain of the 18" or 19" tires.
Plus soft feel leather seats. I have test driven and used all PASM Modes, but would like to hear from someone who owns the S and has driven it for awhile with this system. I have had lung surgery and am sensitive to driving comfort. The X5 I have is very bouncy and firm, and I do not like it. I think the S is a very technically superior SUV, and I feel the outside and inside is outstanding. However, if it is firm riding regardless of the PASM Modes, then it would not be for me, even though I like the Porsche. Thanks for help.
  • mudman2mudman2 Member Posts: 152
In comfort mode with 18's the ride is very comfortable but never soft and bouncy, always in control.

In fact you do not lose any handling using comfort mode, but itdoes take the pain out of PA's terrible roads.

I have had mine since June and have 9800 miles under my belt.
  • sadie1301sadie1301 Member Posts: 2
You have made some observations in #486. I would appreciate your comments on my post #512. Particularly your feeling on, is the Cayenne smooth riding enough for me to feel comfortable.
That of course is relative, but your comments and observations please. Thanks.
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
    I agree with mudman.

I think with the 18 " wheels and the air suspension on comfort setting, the ride is soft and comfy.

LAst few months I had to bring my father in law to the hospital, he has cancer into the bone and spine, so going over jarring bumps hurts. On the way there, I went over a bump with the setting at "sport", and he complained of pain. I promptly set it at "comfort", and when we went over other bumps, he said it was good, no more pain......

But because personal pain thresholds and comfort levels vary, I would suggest you try it one more time before buying, and just go slower over bumps
    .

    best wishes on purchasing!

Due to the low US dollar it makes sense to ship slightly used Porsche Cayennes to certain European countries. Can anybody tell me what the difference between the European and US version is? Also, how difficult/easy is it to change the speedometer/odometer from miles to Kilometer?
  • mudman2mudman2 Member Posts: 152
    First do your math homework
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
the digital readouts for the speedometer can be easily changed by using the computer and selecting the kilometer icon.

The analog speedo already has both , although emphasis is on "miles" .

You may lose a few Hp due to emissions equipment on US models, but that is easily fixed....ask mudman.... :-)

I am highly-considering a new '04 Cayenne V6 model for my daughter. She is at Harvard, and so as a gift/birthday surprise, my wife and I are considering buying her a Cayenne. Ever since she was little, she was always obsessed with Porsche, and what better way than a Porsche SUV? She loves that car, by the way.

So yesterday, I went to several Porsche dealerships. It seems as though they already have quite a few number of the V6 models. I know what options she wants:

    Basalt Black Metallic/Stone-grey leather
    18" Turbo Wheels
    Sports Aluminum Package
    Automatic Climate Control.

    MSRP is @ $47,195.00 USD.

Is it too early to get good discounts on new Cayenne V6's? I know you can get deep ones on the 'S' model (which is why I'm going to get one soon for my wife also). Traditionally, Los Angeles has been known for better deals than here in San Diego (more in stock maybe?). When should we get one? My wife just hates getting cars without a good deal (makes the dealer sweat when she bargains). Also, planning on getting it around March/April/June time-period. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Oh and one more thing. What exactly is the Sports Aluminum Package? Does that just give you aluminum trim inside and outside? And also the Automatic Climate Control- does that just give you auto A/C? Not too familiar with the Porsche options list.
