know what you are getting into.
I hear this from a lot of Porsche enthusiasts...and on the forums...
why don't we open a donut shop together ??
lotsa $$$$ there. People always need breakfast and comfort food..... :-)
:-O
even more amazing....I had a deja-vu !!
looking at the wrecked 928s, I saw my old uberbeige 1982 928 !!! It was wrecked and I sold it to PartsHeaven of Fremont. That is it , the cream one with no front license plate, posted on the site....! My 928 had bald tires, and I was about to get new ones. My sister came over, but needed a car to get to Travis AirForce Base, so she took the 928, spun out on the freeway, and got hit by a medium truck. The truck was ok, just some scratches, but my 928 was totalled....... :-(
This was all in 1998 !!
Never thought I would see my old car again..!!!
Here is the interesting point: of the ten other Cayennes on the lot, nine of them had the problem and only one behaved properly. I think that if enough people report it, Porsche will have to come up with a fix. Right now, all they could do for me was just to take all the readings from the ‘potentiometer’ and send them to Porsche to further research the problem.
The seat memory is not able to ‘remember’ the position of the backrest. Here is how to duplicate the problem. Place the driver's seat in a preferred position and store that position in one of the memory locations (ie. press the 'set' button and then press one of the numbered buttons until you hear a 'beep'). Now recline the seat backrest (just move the back of the seat, not the base) some ways to the back, and then press the previously stored memory position. The backrest will move forward to the stored position. This part works ok.
Now move the backrest way forward and then press the memory position to try to get the backrest to move backwards to the previously stored position—it won't do it. Subtle problem, but EXTREMELY annoying. In summary, the key problem is that the memory buttons don’t seem to store the position of the backrest. This happens in both the driver’s and passenger’s side memory controls.
I noticed this problem only because my wife is short and she always moves both the base of the seat and the backrest all the way forward. When I get in, I push my stored memory position, and the base of the seat goes to my position, but not the backrest.
Any comments from others??
Please guide.. Thanks
1) Headlamps fog up
2) MUST slam rear trunk down (otherwise it won't close, even if you think it is by looking and all the lights are out)
3) Sometimes, the interior lights go out after 5 minutes when the door is closed (w/o key)
4) Black exterior paint attracts lots of dust.
But other than that, all is well!
doubleeagle:
On the remote.....I have no problem getting my doors to lock or unlock.... the antennae for receiving the signal must be hidden somewhere, so try to move around....however, sounds like you are having a real problem that may need the dealer to figure out.
Trunk does need to be "closed with medium force" IMHO.
It is a great car.....and does a lot more than any other car....period.

you will need broadband or forget it.
funny i've never had this problem.....could it bbe the seals ?
or the sloping horizontal shape of the housing ....since the lights get hot,,,and air comes out , to equalize pressure. But when you turn it off, air , moist air, rushes in and condenses on the cooler housing ?
just guessing....
We have been smiling ....and you will too....just be persistant and patient....they will get it done..... :-)
kinda limited to your regular cars, I see.... ?
actually, what car do you drive ?
take a look at www.car-accidents.com. LOOK at what the roadways can do to you (unless you are invincible and have some type of force field that prevents you from getting into an accident) :-)
My cayenne will do more than what most cars can do, do it safely, and do it fast if necessary, and with style....
Do you know how many cars , minivans get only 20 mpg ??...a lot. !
grapes too sour ?? ;-)

While eliment is certainly entitled to his opinion, he most likely has never driven a Cayenne, and perhaps not even looked at one closely. If he has, he certainly didn't appreciate it. That makes his comparison to a Suburban even more ludicrous!
Porsche imports approximately 17,000 Cayennes into the US each year for those with the desire to own such an incredible machine, and those fortunate enough to be willing and able to pay the premium for one or to sacrifice something to afford it.
Indeed, my first reaction upon hearing about Porsche's developing one was that anyone who buys one has more $ that he knows what to do with, and will buy one just to have one. Boy, was I wrong! It took me exactly 1 hour behind the wheel to want one, and only 20 minutes for my wife to drive one and agree that it was the vehicle for us.
Yes, I've had a few problems, but Porsche has handled the situation very well, and it has only made me appreciate the car even more.
Eliment's perspective must be from one who views a vehicle as transportation, not fun.
So let's keep this board alive for those who appreciate it and want to help others.
However having done a couple of test drives I am smitten and find I now need one!
In trying to calculate a reasonable price for a used "S" I figured I should calculate the MSRP, deduct what would be a reasonable % off for a new vehicle and then subtract the estimated depreciation. Does that seem a good way to go?
So first is what % are people managing o get of MSRP? So far I have had 6% and 8% quoted from different dealers for a new "S". Is anyone managing more?
Second does any one know the invoice prices for options? - I only found one site, and that seemed to be a straight 15% reduction from MSRP for each option. Is that right?
Thirdly, I think I read on the board that for leasing car lost 44% of its value over 39 months ie 13.5 % depreciation a year - maybe more in the first.
Any help or info would be appreciated.
Thanks

just read this article in the new SUV mag "4x4driver" and they did a top speed test in the Australian outback
the BMW4.6 and MB ML55 both did above 150mph+....
CayTT did 150 easily, top out at 160...but there are a few tricks
1- use 98 octane
2- fold in the side view mirrors
3- have the BMW and ML punch a aerodynamic hole by going 150 mph in front for the Cay to slingshot thru.
the results: 175 mph.....!
the Cay S reaches 150 mph, so if we use all the tricks, perhaps it can go 160+mph !!!
not that I would go that fast.....just the fast starts and the ability iss good enough for me........:-)
I think most of us here agree it is a great car.....
although I do have a suburban converted into a sporty and luxurious car. done by Stillen. has everything on it, and can accelerate and stop like the BMW 740 sedan...not bad for a sub ?!....but we use it only for the long trips.
Which way should I go?
In terms of the performance & brand appeal, Touareg really cannot match Cayenne. I personally did not like the Touareg dash / radio. Too buttony for my taste. Also sit in the driver seat and feel the space. I think the way Dash comes out on the Touareg, it gave me sense of lot less space vs, cay.
Thanks for the daylight
the cay did great in the snow.....
2 other cay drivers all passed me and waved...... :-)
will try again today.....
I logged 900 miles so far and it's been pretty good to me. My only complaint is with the radio, when I push the radio control button on the steering wheel it goes to the next available station and not my next programmed station. Also for some reason it doesn't remember my Bass/Treble settings, it keeps going back to the default factory settings. Any suggestions?
the v6 cayenne invoice prices are available on www.smartcarfinder.com
enjoy
Yesterday I drove the V6 Cayenne (steel susp) and then right after drove the V8 Treg w/Air susp. There is night and day in the suspensions, Pepper is HOT!!! I loved the V8 over the V6 though. So I am in a dilema... the Cayenne S just seems too much for my budget but would I always say, "Wish I had a V8?"
If price is an issue, consider getting a used Cayenne S. I would highly recommend the V8 over the V6 or wait a little longer to save up. Think of the purchase this way, never settle for something because you'll always regret it and you'll always long for the thing you really, really wanted. I have a friend at work that would buy new watches and say how good it was and how it was as good or better than my Rolex. Well he finally broke down and bought a Rolex, he doesn't buy new watches anymore. He wasted all that time and money on all those other watches.
but we love our car....!
We do not have that problem....I mean the treble and bass memory. Did not notice the controls jumping to next station....willl check.
I agree with carnut.....buy what you want....stick to the low price that you wanted to pay...for the V8. Be ready to walk.....but show your interest .....
what say you, mudman ?
At various times I have walked away and been happy I did, angry I did and the reverse, stretched the budget to get what I really wanted and been happy (mostly).
Whatever floats your boat.
