    exactly,,...... :-)

know what you are getting into.

I hear this from a lot of Porsche enthusiasts...and on the forums...

why don't we open a donut shop together ??
lotsa $$$$ there. People always need breakfast and comfort food..... :-)

while looking at the 928 forum, I got to the wreckedexotics.com site.....and under the new wrecked exotics, on 2nd page, is a wrecked Cayenne. The whole front end is demolished, but the passenger cabin looks intact. Guess all the talk about the ultra high strength steel cabin is true.... :-)

    :-O

    even more amazing....I had a deja-vu !!

looking at the wrecked 928s, I saw my old uberbeige 1982 928 !!! It was wrecked and I sold it to PartsHeaven of Fremont. That is it , the cream one with no front license plate, posted on the site....! My 928 had bald tires, and I was about to get new ones. My sister came over, but needed a car to get to Travis AirForce Base, so she took the 928, spun out on the freeway, and got hit by a medium truck. The truck was ok, just some scratches, but my 928 was totalled....... :-(
This was all in 1998 !!

Never thought I would see my old car again..!!!

I believe there is a widespread problem with the Cayenne memory seats that most people are not noticing. I am wondering if owners could try the following test and if they find the problem, please report it to the dealer. I took mine in, and the service advisor verified the problem. Resetting the seat memory did NOT solve the problem. Here is a description of the problem.

Here is the interesting point: of the ten other Cayennes on the lot, nine of them had the problem and only one behaved properly. I think that if enough people report it, Porsche will have to come up with a fix. Right now, all they could do for me was just to take all the readings from the ‘potentiometer’ and send them to Porsche to further research the problem.

The seat memory is not able to ‘remember’ the position of the backrest. Here is how to duplicate the problem. Place the driver's seat in a preferred position and store that position in one of the memory locations (ie. press the 'set' button and then press one of the numbered buttons until you hear a 'beep'). Now recline the seat backrest (just move the back of the seat, not the base) some ways to the back, and then press the previously stored memory position. The backrest will move forward to the stored position. This part works ok.

Now move the backrest way forward and then press the memory position to try to get the backrest to move backwards to the previously stored position—it won't do it. Subtle problem, but EXTREMELY annoying. In summary, the key problem is that the memory buttons don’t seem to store the position of the backrest. This happens in both the driver’s and passenger’s side memory controls.

I noticed this problem only because my wife is short and she always moves both the base of the seat and the backrest all the way forward. When I get in, I push my stored memory position, and the base of the seat goes to my position, but not the backrest.

    Any comments from others??

I must admit that I have not yet figured out how the Bi Xenon headlamp washers get activated. I tried all the options like holding the windshield washer stick pulled towards steering wheel and changing the settings etc but the headlamp washers never operated. I made sure that as per the manual, headlights were on .

    Please guide.. Thanks

anyone else having problems locking and unlocking with the remotes? very exasperating for me....as I press the "unlock", most times nothing happens; cannot see the right front light turn green, so I believe no signal is being sent...end up having to open with the key manually...not very impressive, and very frustrating
  • i_drivei_drive Member Posts: 35
So far, the only "annoyances" are:

    1) Headlamps fog up
    2) MUST slam rear trunk down (otherwise it won't close, even if you think it is by looking and all the lights are out)
    3) Sometimes, the interior lights go out after 5 minutes when the door is closed (w/o key)
    4) Black exterior paint attracts lots of dust.

But other than that, all is well!
  • llspepper2llspepper2 Member Posts: 17
I forwarded your message to my dealer and hopefully he'll look into it.
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
the headlight washers were a mystery to me too, until last week I headed out at night , and tried to spray the windsheild ...with the lights on, car in motion, the headlight spray did pop up and spray for about 2 seconds......neat to watch.....but only works with lights on.

    doubleeagle:
On the remote.....I have no problem getting my doors to lock or unlock.... the antennae for receiving the signal must be hidden somewhere, so try to move around....however, sounds like you are having a real problem that may need the dealer to figure out.

Trunk does need to be "closed with medium force" IMHO.

I have been reading all the postings to inform myself before I pulled the trigger on the Cayenne S. I just finished an exhaustive amount of negotiating and here is what I learned. The residual on the Cayenne S is 54%, the money factor from porsche is 2.5. I had a discount of $6,610 off the MSRP of $67,150 and my final payments are $920 a month $0 down, and taxes included in the lease payment. Hope this helps someone else.
  • caygirlcaygirl Member Posts: 6
forgot to mention the lease term was 39 months.

I spoke to a Porsche service advisor this week and he told me there is a service bulletin to fix this problem. Apparently they put some silica gel (the little packets in new shoes or dried food products) in the housing to absorb the moisture. I'm going to have this problem fixed this week if possible and I'll post the results. Funny I never noticed this problem with other cars. Otherwise the truck is awesome.

  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
we all agree this is an awesome car.

funny i've never had this problem.....could it bbe the seals ?

or the sloping horizontal shape of the housing ....since the lights get hot,,,and air comes out , to equalize pressure. But when you turn it off, air , moist air, rushes in and condenses on the cooler housing ?

    just guessing....
  • basaltnpepperbasaltnpepper Member Posts: 6
When was your Cayenne built? Is it a 2003 model? Mine was built 7-03 but it's supposed to be a 2004 model. Maybe the condensation is due to a different housing design or supplier of the headlight. Just trying figure this out. I'm sure Porsche will make it right, just kind of annoying for an otherwise perfect vehicle. I did notice many of the Cayennes (2004) on the lot having this condensation problem.
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
but I got one of the early models, though they labeled it 2004, I picked it up in May, 2003

After a recent test drive of the Cayenne, the salesman responded to my question and informed me that Porsche does not offer XM or Sirius radio as an option and, even worse, the factory installed Bose sound system cannot be tapped into to add XM or Sirius. Does anyone have other information? Is Porsche planning to make the option available?
  • elemintelemint Member Posts: 79
No offence to anyone, but why???? It is gluteny at its worse, especially the turbo option! . To me the very fact that it exists is ridiculous. Why not make a chevy suburban into a sports car? Makes as much sense. Why would anyone want a car that WILL break down out in the middle of nowhere with most likely no dealer for 500 miles???? WHO gives a crap about HP when you are doing 5mph??? GIVE me reliability and repairablity when out in the wilds. Nice job porsche, you realized how gullible the US market truly is....

i_Drive, I read your description of a sweet lease deal on V6 Cay, $399 /month and $3500 down 5 yrs 10K/yr. Is this for real, did you actually get such a deal signed? If so what dealership? My local dealer in Palm Beach looked at me like I was crazy when I mentionned it, he said it's more like $700 a month for a V6 Cay! I'm more than willing to ship a car cross country for a lease like the one you described. Let me in onb the details pls.

    hello.....

kinda limited to your regular cars, I see.... ?

actually, what car do you drive ?

take a look at www.car-accidents.com. LOOK at what the roadways can do to you (unless you are invincible and have some type of force field that prevents you from getting into an accident) :-)

My cayenne will do more than what most cars can do, do it safely, and do it fast if necessary, and with style....

Do you know how many cars , minivans get only 20 mpg ??...a lot. !

    grapes too sour ?? ;-)

Gluteny? What is that? Are you saying my Cayenne is made out of plant protein? I guess it's an environmentally friendly car like the Toyota Prius.
  • llspepper2llspepper2 Member Posts: 17
Saw a pic of the dash on a TT Cayanne in germany doing aprox. 250km/hr at about 4800revs. Per owner still had some left. Isn't that about 150mph? simply amazing!

One of the nice things about this discussion board is that it is NOT the typical trash talking board you see on many, especially sports, boards. Let's not let it turn into one. There is quite a bit of helpful information posted for owners.

While eliment is certainly entitled to his opinion, he most likely has never driven a Cayenne, and perhaps not even looked at one closely. If he has, he certainly didn't appreciate it. That makes his comparison to a Suburban even more ludicrous!

Porsche imports approximately 17,000 Cayennes into the US each year for those with the desire to own such an incredible machine, and those fortunate enough to be willing and able to pay the premium for one or to sacrifice something to afford it.

Indeed, my first reaction upon hearing about Porsche's developing one was that anyone who buys one has more $ that he knows what to do with, and will buy one just to have one. Boy, was I wrong! It took me exactly 1 hour behind the wheel to want one, and only 20 minutes for my wife to drive one and agree that it was the vehicle for us.

Yes, I've had a few problems, but Porsche has handled the situation very well, and it has only made me appreciate the car even more.

Eliment's perspective must be from one who views a vehicle as transportation, not fun.

So let's keep this board alive for those who appreciate it and want to help others.

I have been looking to find a low mileage used Cayenne, and there seem to be a few out there. Dealers most often say the customer was trading upto a Turbo. (That would be nice).

However having done a couple of test drives I am smitten and find I now need one!

In trying to calculate a reasonable price for a used "S" I figured I should calculate the MSRP, deduct what would be a reasonable % off for a new vehicle and then subtract the estimated depreciation. Does that seem a good way to go?

So first is what % are people managing o get of MSRP? So far I have had 6% and 8% quoted from different dealers for a new "S". Is anyone managing more?

Second does any one know the invoice prices for options? - I only found one site, and that seemed to be a straight 15% reduction from MSRP for each option. Is that right?

Thirdly, I think I read on the board that for leasing car lost 44% of its value over 39 months ie 13.5 % depreciation a year - maybe more in the first.

Any help or info would be appreciated.

    Thanks
  • basaltnpepperbasaltnpepper Member Posts: 6
Check out www.carprices.com It was very useful when I presented my sheet with all the prices to the dealer. I ended up paying $1500 over invoice. I've heard anywhere from $1000+ over invoice is possible. Always start from the invoice or below if possible, never start from MSRP and go down, you'll always lose.

    Hello again!

just read this article in the new SUV mag "4x4driver" and they did a top speed test in the Australian outback

the BMW4.6 and MB ML55 both did above 150mph+....

CayTT did 150 easily, top out at 160...but there are a few tricks

    1- use 98 octane
2- fold in the side view mirrors
3- have the BMW and ML punch a aerodynamic hole by going 150 mph in front for the Cay to slingshot thru.

    the results: 175 mph.....!

the Cay S reaches 150 mph, so if we use all the tricks, perhaps it can go 160+mph !!!

not that I would go that fast.....just the fast starts and the ability iss good enough for me........:-)
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
    that was a great post ..... :-)

I think most of us here agree it is a great car.....

although I do have a suburban converted into a sporty and luxurious car. done by Stillen. has everything on it, and can accelerate and stop like the BMW 740 sedan...not bad for a sub ?!....but we use it only for the long trips.

I have an option to buy a Cayenne S which originally stickered for 65k (15000 miles) or a new Touareg well appointed for 48K (MSRP 51000). The VW is very refined, but I also love the Porsche "warble."

    Which way should I go?
  • svinaiksvinaik Member Posts: 84
Go the way your heart goes.

In terms of the performance & brand appeal, Touareg really cannot match Cayenne. I personally did not like the Touareg dash / radio. Too buttony for my taste. Also sit in the driver seat and feel the space. I think the way Dash comes out on the Touareg, it gave me sense of lot less space vs, cay.

I just couldn't wait to take my truck in to have them fix the headlight condensation problem so I took out the assembly myself to dry the covers myself. I found a pack of silica dessicant under each of the Xenon covers which apparently is saturated so I put them in my oven for an hour at 250 degrees and dried out the packs. After I re-installed them, the headlights dried out overnight. Save yourself the hassle of taking them in and DIY!

This board is pretty slow. Is this a good sign that means Cayenne owners are happy with their vehicles and have nothing to complain? Maybe we're all too busy working to pay for the gas ;)

I logged 900 miles so far and it's been pretty good to me. My only complaint is with the radio, when I push the radio control button on the steering wheel it goes to the next available station and not my next programmed station. Also for some reason it doesn't remember my Bass/Treble settings, it keeps going back to the default factory settings. Any suggestions?

Basaltnpepper: What dealership gave you $1500 over invoice?

Yesterday I drove the V6 Cayenne (steel susp) and then right after drove the V8 Treg w/Air susp. There is night and day in the suspensions, Pepper is HOT!!! I loved the V8 over the V6 though. So I am in a dilema... the Cayenne S just seems too much for my budget but would I always say, "Wish I had a V8?"
  • carnut36carnut36 Member Posts: 27
I got my car at McKenna in Norwalk, CA for about $1500 over invoice. He wanted to give me $3500 off MSRP but I went from invoice price and we negotiated up to $1500 above invoice. He didn't want to give in so we walked out. He told me this a Porsche and it's an exclusive vehicle and there's no way I can get the car at that price. (Blah, Blah, Blah) I didn't more than 10 feet out the door when he called me back into the dealership. He told me it was my lucky day because the manager was in a good mood because he just sold a 911 TT. That part was true because I saw the salesman bringing in a 911 to trade for the TT. Whether that really played into my deal, who knows? I just know that the most I'll pay over invoice is $1500, I don't care what kind of car it is.

If price is an issue, consider getting a used Cayenne S. I would highly recommend the V8 over the V6 or wait a little longer to save up. Think of the purchase this way, never settle for something because you'll always regret it and you'll always long for the thing you really, really wanted. I have a friend at work that would buy new watches and say how good it was and how it was as good or better than my Rolex. Well he finally broke down and bought a Rolex, he doesn't buy new watches anymore. He wasted all that time and money on all those other watches.

    hi....yes, it is kinda slow

    but we love our car....!

We do not have that problem....I mean the treble and bass memory. Did not notice the controls jumping to next station....willl check.

    welcome!

I agree with carnut.....buy what you want....stick to the low price that you wanted to pay...for the V8. Be ready to walk.....but show your interest .....

    what say you, mudman ?
  • mudman2mudman2 Member Posts: 152
Its always tough if you have a budget in mind. (I always do)

At various times I have walked away and been happy I did, angry I did and the reverse, stretched the budget to get what I really wanted and been happy (mostly).

    Whatever floats your boat.
