Hi - I know the '01-06 MDXs had something called a Cargo Separator (it was a net that stood vertically bet. 2nd row and cargo area). Does anyone know if it fits the '07 or is there a newer version of this accessory? We have a big dog and need to put something up to prevent her from jumping out of the cargo area and over the 2nd row seats. Just trying to figure out what would work. THANKS!

Here's the deal...I own an '06 TL and a new (1 day old MDX)...both have NAV. Can I simply copy the MDX NAV DVD and insert it into the TL? :confuse: Seems like a simple thing...anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks

Please check out the following site and FAQs:

    Order DVD

    For reference:

    Tip:
Never interchange DVDs with different colored labels, or ones with versions less than what is printed on your current DVD. Navigation DVDs obtained from friends, Internet auctions or outside of the normal ordering process may produce error messages, or cause the navigation system to malfunction. The navigation system cannot utilize DVDs for other auto manufacturers, or other PC based navigation software. The system is not designed to play video movies or audio recordings.

(The DVDs also contain firmware updates ... that is why you don't 'go back' to an older disk.)

    31. Will an update DVD be compatible with my vehicle?

Yes. The latest version DVD will work in any Honda or Acura vehicle with white-labeled DVD.
Note: Orange, black, white and turquoise-labeled DVDs are not interchangeable.

I'm looking to buy the roof rails, crossbars, and larger (76") cargo box for a 2007 MDX. I see the rails & crossbars on the usual suspect's web sites (handa, curry, hondaacuraworld), but nobody seems to have the box. Anyone know of a good discount place that has it?
  • ylieberthalylieberthal Member Posts: 2
The old cargo serperator does not fit the 07 and I haven't found one that does

We just bought an 04 MDX and are looking to add the wood trim around the dash gauges and the RES/DVD system. Has anyone done the installation themselves? The dealer wants an extra $200 to install them.

Have an Odyssey, love it. Now looking for AWD, so Pilot/MDX comes to my mind.

    Negatives,
    - no space when 3rd row is up.
    - while the Ody can take four bikes inside, MDX/Pilot can even take my two kids'. asked dealer about bike hitch rack, cost $1,000 (they don't want to just give me the hitch, have to add all tranny things).

    Any suggestion?

I've had Dent Wizard remove dings from several cars over the years - Jaguar, Lexus, Cadillac and Chrysler. One constant is that the sooner you have it done, the less you will be able to see where it was. Don't wait! Besides, each time I've gone, they given me a coupon for the next visit.

I am in the market for a new 2007 MDX. Seems like there is a lot of inventory on the tech model and the tech with RES/DVD is harder to come by. And I'm not sure it's worth the extra 2k.
Does anyone have thoughts on relative adv/disadv of buying it with stock DVD system vs. installing one later? thanks.

I did the debate myself, and I am not going to pay for the RES, that comes as a $2,200 option package with an 8" screen. I am considering what to do about the power liftgate, which the smart people have packaged together with the RES.

Btw, you get a 12.1" screen with a DVD player at car toys for $999. I dont know if that includes installation, but even if it doesnt, you get a 12" DVD player for about $1,200, about half the price. I am going to ask a dealer to exchange it (RES) for something of equivalent price - like the auto-dimming mirror + running boards + roof rails. Lets see what they say. Good luck with your shopping, - MS.

    $1,000 for a bike rack?
Acura sells Bike Attachments that mount on your existing roof rack for $135 each.
If you don't have the roof rack, that's $219 for the rails, and $215 for the cross-bars.
Either way, his math sounds off.

For $1,000, I'm assuming you do NOT have an existing roof rack?
If you do, just get the bike attachments.
If you don't shop Thule or Yakima for a bike rack and save $$$.

We were told that the aftermarket DVD systems will not be able to integrate with the MDX's new Dolby Surround sound system. Also, from my experience, a bigger screen may block your rear view.

    Please check before you buy!

Is the body side molding thing purely cosmetic? Does it actually prevent any door dings? Seems too low to provide benefit and I'm debating whether or not its worth the 200 or so bucks...
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
Acura claims that these are to protect from door dings, but they would only protect your door if the offending car had the exact same height where their door edge meets your trim.
    What are the odds?

I firmly believe these are for looks only.
Wanna protect from door dings... park in the last spot in any lot, and wrap the car in bubble wrap.
Or, better yet, but 40 sets of trim, and stick them an inch apart from each other, all the way down the door. :P

    Ugh, I hate door dings.
I wish people could be more careful.

Does anyone know anything about the 07 trailer hitch wiring? My 02 MDX simply plugged in, the 07 has LED taillights and dealer said it is much more complicated. Dealer quoted $200 for wiring harness, not installed. U-haul said they have a plug in unit they can order for $32. Does anyone know if the wiring harness is plug-in and if there is a comparable one to the OEM that is cheaper? It's incredible to believe that this would not plug-in the same as earlier models. I am only putting a jet ski in and out of the water at my lake home.

we cannot get it to play our DVD-R's. From what I understand in the book, these are not compatable witht he DVD player. If this is so.....Is there a solution to this problem?

Can anyone advise me which aftermarket cable to purchase to play my Ipod Nanno through the radio of my 2007 MDX (with Tech package). I understand that I will still have to control the selection, etc. from my Ipod but it will still play through the radio without needing to resort to the "iff" frequency cables.

Are these cables commonly available at places like BestBuy or Circuit City and how much should I expect to pay. Many thanks.

    Auburn S.
  • suvhuntsuvhunt Member Posts: 27
The tech has a aux input inside the center armrest console. You need a mini stereo cable that connects from the headphone jack of ipod to aux input. Should be less than $10 from radioshack or bestbuy.

I have a 07 MDX with tech/ent and thinking about putting on roof racks. I know many people think they are not that hard to put on but I'm too lazy to do it myself.

Are the roof racks functional without the cross bars to put on stuff like cargo boxes?
Should I get the dealer to do it or any suggestions for good installers in the Baltimore/D.C. area?
  • my3rdrxmy3rdrx Member Posts: 167
I installed the roof rails myself, without the crossbars, and it could be tricky ~ since you'd have to cut the existing rubber inserts in several places!

If your cargo box is wide enough, I don't think you need the crossbars. And I happen to think the roof rails alone make the vehicle look sportier ~ just MHO!
  • upstatedocupstatedoc Member Posts: 710
I am interested in adding roof rails to my '07, does anyone have pic's of what they look like on the vehicle? Thanks.

I bought my MDX last fall and enjoying it very much. I did research on wheel locks and they are priced much better on online retailers ( $33 plus shipping ) but the local sources are quoting $ 75 to $89 including installation.
Any suggestions ? Is it hard to install myself ?

    Thanks,
    Sapphire :)
  • upstatedocupstatedoc Member Posts: 710
I've bought after market wheel locks for previous vehicles and was not impressed with them. They rusted quickly. I recently purchased acura wheel locks ($63+ship) from hondacuraworld.com and am anxious to see how they hold up. I had jiffy lube put mine on because they should be "torqued" and I don't have a torque wrench.

    Hi Guys,

I'm getting my new MDX next week. The problem is I dont have a garage and I just happened to hear the news that there could be some hail storms heading this way. I know its Summer but it got me thinking of getting some car cover for my MDX.

Does anyone know of a good car cover for MDX that will protect it against hail and other weather conditions.

    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks a bunch

Anybody have any pictures of their accessorized 2007 MDX. I am curious about the front and rear chrome bumper plates. Or does anyone know where to find a picture of a fully accessorized MDX.

I noticed some chips developing on or close to the edge of the hood and am thinking of getting a nose mask. However, I also read from owner's experience that dirt and bug may develop under the mask, hence leaving scratches on the paint. Some also complain of the mask flapping in high speed. Has anyone had recent experience of getting and using a mask? How was the experience overall? I certainly do not want to solve one problem and introduce another. Another solution is the clear bra (coating). Still waiting on a quote but am sure it will be definitely more expensive.

    Thanks.

    Hello,
This is a great forum..Thank you!!
I have a dilemma I hope somebody can help me with this,
I would like to know if a stereo/radio 6 dc changer unit from a 2005 MDX would fit a 2004 MDX Touring. Both would have the 6 cd magazine in the unit and not under the seat.
I was looking in Ebay and they are selling one.
The reason I want to change my stereo is because I want to be able to install my IPOD, the 2005 stereo unit comes with a DVD/aux button my 2004 doesn’t have that button so if I hook it up to my present system I would either have to lose my cd changer or use the cassette deck, which I don’t like to begin with anyway (the 2005 doesnt have a cassette deck..making it look more modern)....any inputs! Thank you guys!!

(If I want to put an aftermarket unit it would cost me an arm and a leg because of the Bose system that comes with the MDX, for what I was told they would need to pretty much rewire the entire truck….not worth it)

I just picked up a 2007 MDX and a clear bra was part of the dealer's "protection package", but my wife has a 2001 Maxima that has had a nose mask on since she bought it... except for a few months in the summer each year. It doesn't seem to be any bother. I never drive the car, but she hasn't complained about any flapping at high speed and when I have removed it to wash the car... wait a minute, I can't drive it but I have to wash it, what's wrong with this picture....I have never noticed any scratches. And there are certainly no chip marks from flying rocks on it. The only drawback is that it is kind of hard to get back on. It usually takes the two of us to do the job.

I recently bought a 2007 MDX sport and had the tow/hitch package dealer installed (as part of my deal). Everything works fine but I read that there should be a trim kit that matches the color of the vehicle included.

I am not sure whether or not this was installed and what it looks like.

Can anyone who has had a dealer installed tow/hitch package look at the attached picture of my MDX and tell me it the trim kit was installed or not? link title
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
If you go to Acura.com and look at the Towing package details, it lists the bumper trim kit and the supplied photo looks just like yours.
I can't post the pic here cause it's embedded in a flash window, and there's no direct like, but the pic looks just like yours, so I think yours is installed. :)
  • somnosomno Member Posts: 43
The problem is that the acura.com site photo is small and at an angle so I can't really tell if it is truly the same as mine. I do not see what added trim was used in the bumper trim kit as it looks (except for the hitch and electrical stuff) the same as a stock MDX rear end???

somno, could you do me a favor and measure the distance between the middle of your receiver opening and the ground? Clearance is a big issue for me due to my sloped driveway and the angle I encounter as I back down to the street.

    Thanks, JB.
  • somnosomno Member Posts: 43
It is 17.75 inches from the middle of the opening of the 2" receiver to the ground (in my garage).

    Hope that helps.
  • JBaumgartJBaumgart Member Posts: 890
"It is 17.75 inches from the middle of the opening of the 2" receiver to the ground (in my garage)."

Thanks, somno - this is higher than I expected so that's good for me. It appears from there than the tow bar is slanted down a bit but not too far?

I see that you have a 2007 so maybe the 2008 is slightly higher(?).

Anyway I very much appreciate your response -

    JB
  • somnosomno Member Posts: 43
The tow bar is parallel to the ground. I put my new bike rack (a Thule T2 which has a platform for the bike tires) and it was quite parallel. So you should have no problem.
  • JBaumgartJBaumgart Member Posts: 890
Thanks again. I measured my clearance tonight and the MDX is 5 inches better than what I have now (FX45), plus the factory tow bar slopes down so I only have about 10 inches of clearance from the bottom of the tow bar to the ground. Otherwise I've been very happy with the Infiniti - no problems in over 70M of driving.

Could someone explain to me why I would want to put nitrogen in my tires? And, how much does it cost? Thanks.

It better be free because that's about all it's worth. :shades:

    Nitrogen: A Noble Gas?
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
They claim that it has several advantages...

    Handling
    Fuel efficiency
    Tire life
    Cooler running temps
    Better tire pressure retention

The only true claim is that nitro filled tires sometimes hold their pressure longer, with little escape of pressure.
The bottom line is that all of the above benefits come from one thing and one thing alone... Keeping your tire pressure correct.
What type of gas is inside my tire has little to do with how it wears on the outside, and certainly doesn't keep a cooler temp.
These are claims to fool the masses and it's working, as my dealer wanted $250 for Nitrogen.

I opted for good ole' fashion air.
I keep my tires at the recommended pressure and my tires will wear no faster than any filled with Nitro.

I check my pressure every 2-3 weeks (I don't rely on my tire pressure sensors alone) and so far, with 6,300 miles, I haven't had to add air to any tire.
Fact is, I'll lose more air checking the tires routinely than I ever would by using air instead of Nitro!

    Save your dough!
  • upstatedocupstatedoc Member Posts: 710
    $250 !?!?!?!?! That's outrageous
  • JBaumgartJBaumgart Member Posts: 890
Even if it was reasonably priced I don't think I would opt for this. I like to add air, when necessary, in the comfort of my garage and I couldn't do this if I had nitrogen. Do I want to take it all the way to the dealer to add a little more pressure? What if it's Sunday or after hours some night? No thanks!
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
Well, to be fair, the $250 is what Infiniti quoted me when I bought my 07 G35.

I know my Acura dealer also offers it, but never inquired about it for the MDX.

I completely agree... I top off when necessary with my compressor.
Trips to the dealer for 1 or 2 psi is absolute nonsense.

I am thinking of getting some accessories for bikes. For some reasons I will not do the rear hitch. How does the Acura bike mount compare with Yakima/Thule, as far as security, noise, and aethetics are concerned? Do I just need the roof rack plus bike mount, or need the cross bars as well? I don't have a running board and am not tall. Does that pose an extra challenge?

I have heard there are internal "racks" that does the same trick. How does it work in real world? Is it easy to install? Does bikes stored inside the car make the internal messy and dirty?
  • somnosomno Member Posts: 43
I don't know much about who makes the Acura bike rack but the Yakima and Thule ones are usually the best (with some exceptions).

If you do a lot of biking, you may want to re-think the hitch rack. Putting bikes on a roof mounted rack on a low car takes quite a bit of effort...putting the bikes on the MDX roof rack (especially without running boards) will certainly take a lot of muscle and effort. In addition, you take the risk of forgetting you have bikes on the roof (out of site, out of mind) and causing considerable damage when entering a low overhead barrier (such as my friend did when re-entering his garage with the bikes on his roof).

You can have an inexpensive hitch mounted to your MDX and get the Thule T2 rack that I bought. It takes about 15 seconds to put the bike on or off this rack (including fastening or unfastening the wheels) and a 10 year old can do it.

Internal racks do work for some people. My bikes get dirty enough (and not to mention the grease on the chains and other parts that love to stain the inside of your vehicle) that I strongly prefer to keep my bikes outside the vehicle.

This is clearly my personal opinion and others may differ. But the hitch rack really works for me.
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
I also have an 06 MDX... and a couple of mountain bikes.
I have a rack that I made myself, which I used in the back of my Toyota Tacoma and it stood 2 bikes upright in the bed.
This rack works inside the cargo area of the MDX, but you lose the second and third row, and if you're going anywhere with luggage, the bikes aren't coming with you.
Dirt and mud were other concerns.

I bought a Thule rack for the top of the car, and it mounts right onto my existing factory roof rack.
It consists of cross-bars which sit atop of my existing cross-bars, and then the bike holders mount to that.
I was hoping to not need additional cross-bars, but once installed, you don't even know they're there... very low profile.
The bikes are not too difficult to get on top for me, but there's no way in heck the wife is doing it herself.
I open the rear door before putting the bike on so I can step further into the car and it's quite easy for me to just pop them on.

The rack looks awesome, give the MDX a great look, and holds the bikes super tight and secure.
The whole thing was less than $250 (2 bike holders/including locks)& I installed it myself in about a half hour.
