Has anyone done any research (I've tried)or have any tips on car alarms? Can anyone give me what a "good" price would be? I have no experience and obviously don't want to get ripped off when going to buy my new Honda. I'm buying a 2005 Honda Accord EX-L w/Navigation. Appreciate the help!

Go back in this thread there are several people that have done this and they give the specifics.

I have a 2004 Accord EX (4-cyl) with a dealer-installed auto day/night mirror. I like the way it works, but when I have my radio on , the mirror vibrates to the bass. I think the mounting hardware (pivot) isn't tight enough like the factory job (on an TSX). Any comments from anyone?

Got an awesome price for some HIDs for the Accord. They fit in the normal Accord light sockets and include the ballasts. Normal HIDS are 4300h. There is also 6000h and 10,000h;I am getting the 6000h

Total Price $315 See the 7th Genration Accord forum if interested.

    Brighten up you night,

I have just bought a 2005 Accord EXL and am thinking of getting a remote start installed. I talked to the dealer and got a price of $450 for 2 remotes and lifetime warranty with a range of 300 ft. I was thinking remote starts come in the range of around $150-200.Can anyone tell me how much you paid for it and from where did you buy it?

    Hi ate,

I thinking of buying a new accord in Uae. Can you tell me how much you paid for it? Hate all the bargaining stuff. Thanks.

In order for the rear side windows to go all the way down you would have to redesign the shape of the rear doors. The window range depth is limited by the curve of the rear wheel well.

Probably mounted on the firewall under the hood. Follow the fuel line back from the fuel rail towards the firewall. If you go to Torringtonhondaparts.com, you can search parts for your vehicle from their parts diagrams. And they sell Honda parts at a significant discount! I have ordered from them several times with good results.
  • gevans17gevans17 Member Posts: 27
You might try Torringtonhondaparts.com I dont know what accessories they sell, but you can search all parts for all Hondas online at their site, and they sell at a significant discount compared to the local Honda dealers here. Dont know about int. shipping, but I have had no problems ordering from them here in the USA.

MY 99 ACCORD ex CP (w/ A WHOLE! LOT OF TRIMMINGS) needs either: 1.) to have front raised an inch[?] OR, 2.) install air struts so I can deal with speedbumps and driveway aprons. I'm concerned that install ($1600+!)might compromise ride and/or look. Please advise. THX!!

Right now the prices on the Accord are great for a buyer. What modifications would you do to an EX 6 Accord with NAV to make it just as cool as an Accord. The price of an Accord is $8,000 less right now than the TL, which it makes the Accord very appealing. What would you do? Bigger tires? Add Bluetooth? Spoiler, if so what type? All suggestions welcome?
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
By the time you spend the money to make the Accord "just as cool" as the TL you might as well buy a TL. The Accord is a great choice and a great savings if you like it as is vs. the TL but if you add wheels, bigger tires, suspension upgrades, etc you are too close to TL territory for my liking.
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
Not True I have an Accord Coupe 6-speed w /NAV spolier, tint, K&N, Borla and HID. I am still saving over $5,000. I burn regular gas and the insurance cost is extremely low only slightly higher than my wife's 2000 Avalon. I have drove both extensively the TL has about the same performance. The 6-speed Accord comes with 17 inch wheels and tower strut; I have decised not to put in any suspension changes.

    YMMV,

    MidCow.
  • bmwdougbmwdoug Member Posts: 248
I do not want something as drastic as a suspension change. I am talking about wheels, bluetooth, maybe a lid spoiler on the trunk, etc.... These type of modifications. Just ways to dress up the Accord. Anyone have any specific recommendations?

    MidCow,
What type of K&N did you use? I was thinking of a drop-in for my 05 4cyl EX. Anybody have any thoughts. I don't want to do anything too drastic and void the warranty.
    Thanks in advance.

  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
    Durbs68,

That is all I did was a K&N drop-in type filter. I thought about a cold-air intake, but at least on the 6-speed Accord Coupe it is already drawing air from the lower left area away from the engine and I didn't think the benefit would be all that significant.

I am not sure where the 4 cyl. gets its ari input, but if it is close to the engine a cold air intake would give you the best horsepower increase and should not affect you warranty. Make sure you pay $50 extra for hydro lock-out. Cold air intakes are usually very low to the ground and if you go through high water it prevents you from drawing water into your engine and completely ruining it :)

For sound an a little horsepower gain add a cat back exhaust.

    Good Luck,

Midnightcowboy, where did you buy the HID lights for your car and how much?
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
I bought the HID lights through a group deal with 7thgenaccordforum. They were supposed to send me the HIDs last week, but instead they are returning my $315 money order. They are having some problems with the supplier. So for now I have sylvania super stars :)

Actually it looked like a pretty good deal. There were Xexon lights that fit in the normal halogen socket and an additional ignitor and ballast for each light. It had a 1 yr warranty and the lights are rated at 3,200 hours. There are different colors depending on the Xexon temperature. Most HIDs OEMed in cars are 4300C white, 6000c is aqua blue and 8000 deep blue and 10000c purple. Most people get the 6000c.

I am kind of disappointed but it looks like some of the people taht actually received the kit got different parts and ran into some installation issues.

    Good Luck,

    Hello:

I posted in the coupe board, but it looks like that area is slow.

I just bought a '05 EXL V6 AT CPE NAVI. I think is a great value, especially with the cheap pricing available now. Nice ride, and fast enough for me (especially since I'm in traffic all the time!).

    Couple of questions:

    (1) Does anybody have a source for the all-weather floor mats cheaper than a dealer?

    (2) This is the first car I've owned with leather. What products should I buy to keep the seats looking good (they're black, if that makes any difference).

    Thanks!
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
    (1) Handa.com - OEM parts.

    (2) Zymol or Zaino leather products twice a year.
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    midcow:

Aren't you concerned that, if you found aftermarket HIDs to fit your car, the extra heat might melt or otherwise deteriorate the OEM clear plastic external lens covers? They obviously were not design specified for the extra heat.
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
    Blane,

I don't think that is a problem. But, I don't have any first hand experience, but apparently seveal folks on the 7thgenaccord forum have installed HID ligths without any meltdown problems. And there seem to be a lot of similar kits available.

    Cheers,

Can anybody please tell me if Hood and Trunk Moldings for 1998-2000 4 door Accord will fit a 2001 4 door Accord? As far as I know, the basic shape had not changed except for the engine grille horizontal bars and the tail-light lens design, but I see that these moldings are available on the HandA-Accessories.com site for 1998-2000 Accords only.

    Thank you.

There's a forum associated with motor oil testing by a guy named Bob. There is a thread in the air filters forum where a few Honda owners talk about going back to disposable air filters from K&N filters. It might interest ya'll.

I was going to buy a K&N, but I think I'll go with a disposable Wix instead. I have a couple thousand more miles to decide.
  • durbs68durbs68 Member Posts: 11
    Thanks for the replies.
I really don't want a catback exhaust. Worried about the sound being too loud. Just looking for a few extra horses. I would like to set my Accord apart from the others. It is my family car though.
1000 miles. Best car I have purchased.
    What is a disposable Wix?
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
Borla is great not too loud. At cruise yiu can't hear it at all.

Concerning K & N filter. I read the thread about Bob and dispOsable air filters. Let's just say I completely don't agree.

Good luck with your Accord and mods.

Hey guys, I have a little question, when maybe not so little but here it goes:

I have an 04 Accord Coupe with NAV, and had Circuit City install a stereo system a few months ago. I left the stock radio because I didn’t want to get rid of the nav feature. I have component speakers in the front, 6X9 speakers in the back, and they go off a 4 channel amp. I also have a 2 channel amp going to a 2 10 inch sub box. To help me power all of that I had a capacitor installed also. My problem is that there is a LOT of distortion coming thru the speakers, and what the guy who installed it said its feedback from the capacitor and the NAV. Every time I press the gas pedal, I can hear it even louder. He also tells me that there is nothing I can do about it. So I was wondering if A) maybe he installed it wrong somehow, or B) he really is right and I might need to install an aftermarket cd receiver. Before I go that route tho, I want to be sure that it will fix the distortion problem, and that I need to hook it up somehow that I don’t lose the NAV feature.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
Two extra amplifiers = "a LOT of distortion coming thru the speakers". The stock audio system in my 2004 Accord Coupe with NAV sounds great. Of course I don't play it loud enough to be needing a hearing aid 20 years from now.

Ordered the 6-speed wheels from HandA, Avon A500 tires from TireRack, and 20mm Acura TL swaybar about two hours after completing the car purchase. I may also get the 17mm if there's too much oversteer.

I'm thinking about the Honda factory struts and springs. I really don't want a much stiffer spring, but that car sits too damn high.

Anybody know a good leather upholsterer in the San Jose (Calif) area?
  • surferhatchsurferhatch Member Posts: 1
Hello all. Anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the factory installed radio on a 2004 Honda Accord? I've searched these forums and found removal instructions, but they are for 2001 and older models. The dash in the newer models appears to be slightly different, and I can't find how to remove the dash. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
  • emocormattemocormatt Member Posts: 3
I have the instructions from Crutchfield with me right now. Do you have a fax line?
  • gouldngouldn Member Posts: 220
I'm thinking of doing the same (wheels) ... where are you getting the tires installed? (In the bay area as well). What made you choose the A500s?
  • 2000sienna2000sienna Member Posts: 9
Last tires I bought from Tire Rack I had installed at Wheel Techniques. Personally I don't think it makes all that much difference, but you want an installer who knows to use tape on weights on the inside, and peels off the manufacturer labels.

I chose the A500's based on Tire Rack's test results. Plus, they're less expensive than other tires they test better than.

I find the sound of the stock stereo speakers to be quite ordinary, mostly the high frequencies. Any ideas for tweeter upgrades?
  • lastwraithlastwraith Member Posts: 350
I thought I responded to this but my message seems to not be here, must be losing it.

Anyway, "the guy who installed it said its feedback from the capacitor and the NAV" sounds like a bunch of baloney to me. Most HUs (headunits) are powerful enough, even stock ones, so that there will not be much noise introduced by the amp overcompensating for a low power pre-out from the HU. And a capacitor should not introduce noise into the system, it simply holds some extra juice to feed the low notes better. If anything, a cap should make your system sound better but may make your alternator work more (its something extra to charge).

You can get line silencers but these are basically stopgap measures. The best way to have a low noise system is to:

    1) Run amp (or any) power lines on one side of the vehicle and run speaker leads and amp source leads (generally RCAs) on the other side, or at least as far away as possible from the power lines.

    2) Use quality wires that are twisted and as pure as possible to resist picking up noise and carry a clean signal that is as lossless as possible.

    3) Make sure the grounds on the amps (negatives usually nearish the trunk area) are not run to the same spot for both amps, or are not on top of seat belt anchors, or something similarly stupid. At the very least, they should be run securely into bare metal chassis.

If any of these are not done you are at risk for some bad sounds to be thrown around in the car.

Check out: www.the12volt.com for some professional help. There is a forum to ask questions on grounding that might be a good place to start querying.

    Good Luck!

    What's your budget?

Some decent cheap-ish speakers would be Infinity Reference or Kappa components for ear-splitting highs. I have Kappa co-axials and they are piercing with a decent amp, the components are said to be similar.

Moving up in $ (in some cases by a lot), MB Quart, Focal, CDT, and Diamond Audio make some well-respected components.

You really need to set a price limit though, you can get in for a few hundred really easily with good components.

Did you ever get a remote starter for your Accord? I have had them installed in my wife's last two cars (not Hondas). We picked up her new Accord last night and that is #1 on her list of things for me to get done.

Someone someplace told me there was a system available that integrated into the OEM keyless entry system so you did't have to carry a key fob. My wife has already tested the OEM remote range at home and work it is fine.

Hey, do you still have those instructions for the 2004 Accord? I'm about to install an auxiliary audio input, but I need to know how to actually get at the cd changer itself..
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Go to the Handa (H and A) Accessories web page (it is probably in a banner ad right up at the top of this screen). You can download the PDF file of instructions on how to install the CD changer (or anything else they sell). They should tell you what you need to do to get the in-dash changer out.

BTW, which input did you choose? I just got my wife a new Accord and I am trying to decide between getting the OEM tape deck (use it for books on tape and to feed in the XM sat radio from her SkyFi2) or getting an Aux in adapter. The tape deck is spendy with the install kit, but really not that much more than most of the aux adapters I have seen.

    Dennis
  • epmodeepmode Member Posts: 2
Thanks very much, I'm sure that's going to be very useful.

As for your question, I bought an aux input from Precision Interface Electronics (www.pie.net). Wasn't cheap, but I have no interest in the FM tuner for my Ipod.

In other news, I'm astounded by how few car manufacturers actually include auxiliary inputs in their factory stereos, especially with the recent mp3 player popularity boom.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Me too (the aux in). There IS an "aux" button on the stereo but it is not connected to anything unless you buy more stuff :-)

I think I am going to install her XM SkyFi2 in the new Accord and try the FM modulator method first. If that does not work well, then I will either get the aux in like you did (probably $100 or so?) or get the OEM tape desk ($180 or so).

    Thanks,
    Dennis

I just purchased an '05 Accord and I was wondering if anyone knew of a protectant or film to put on the hood to keep the chips away. I do a lot of highway driving and my old car got nailed by rocks from semi's and salt from snow plows. I did get the film for the lights from Weathertech but I just wondered if there was anything for the hood?

Also, does anyone know where or what kind of remote start I should look into so that I don't need the separate fob?

Any recommendations for leather cleaner/protectant as well?

    Thanks in Advance! ;)
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
3m makes some "Scotchgard" clear film for the front of your car. I have not used it, but it is supposed to be the best - no yellowing or peeling. You can get more info and maybe locate an installer here:

    http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/_l/en_US/_s.155/86661/_s.155/98905

Thre remote start should not be a problem for any competent install shop. They make modules that will do the remote start after 4, 5, or 6 lock presses in a row within xx seconds. They will also need to install either an imobilizer bypass (not a good idea) or one of the other solutions. The cheap one involves using a blank Honda key under the dash all the time, for a little more money there is a box that "learns" the signal from your key and then requires no key.

I use Lexol cleaner and treatment and it seems to work well. Lots of folks with high-end cars swear by "Leatheriwue" stuff.

I was at a dealer the other day and saw a car in the showroom that had this transparent film applied to the front part of the hood, grille, and bumper. From a distance you can't even tell it's there, and even up close you have to feel it with your fingers to know it's been applied. It's like a thin plastic laminate. The dealer wanted $399 for a complete install, which seemed outrageously expensive. Also not sure it makes sense to apply it over the front plastic bumper. Seems that for $100 or less, you could apply it just to the front half of the hood to provide the protection needed.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
That sounds like "ScotchCal" or whatever 3m is calling that stuff these days. I don't think the film is expensive, but just like window tinting the price is in the labor cost to do it right. $399 is probably at least 2x the real cost.

Some folks were selling pre-cut pieces of this at one time, that makes it a little easier for most folks to install, but I would still rather someone else do it (that has done lots of them).

are you sure the '98 automatic leather shift knob shown on the sponsor H & A site (see the banner at the top) won't fit? Looks like it might even fit my '02 AT. Call. Ask.

A couple of hours ago replaced my low beams with PIAA's xtreme white bulbs. I like them alot, but they don't seem to be properly aimed anymore. Before I started installing the new bulbs everything seemed fine. But now the left light sees a little higher and better focussed than the right. It also seems a little brighter, but this maybe because they might not be identically aimed. The manual shows that i just needed to remove and install and nothing about aiming or positionig
Does anybody have any suggestions or any experience with this type of thing? Thanks in advance for you help.

I bought my 2005 Accord EX 4 cyl. after I was told Honda was no longer sending cars with the Sat Nav systems, otherwise, I would have waited for my car to come in to the dealership that had the Sat Nav. I found out later (and after the salesman was fired) that Honda is still sending the 4 cyl Ex Accords with Sat Nav. The sales manager will take my car in trade for a new car with Sat Nav, but it will cost me an additional $5,900. My car is now 4 mos. old with 2550 miles on it. I can understand the additional amount for the Sat Nav system, but really! Should I have to pay for the salesman's dishonesty? They want me to pay sales tax again and the PermaPlate 5-yr. service. Does anyone have any ideas or alternatives that would save me a couple thousand bucks? Even suggestions for aftermarket equivalent Sat Nav systems?
