Be sure you use some quality media, like TDK or Sony.

Use only CDR media, not CDR-W (re-record able).

You can also try using 74 minute (650mb) CDRs if you can find them, the recording are on 80 min (700mb) media is more "cramped" and harder for some players to read.

Make sure you burn these as audio CDs with WAV files (it will not play data CDs with MP3s or WMAs).

Finalize the disc or recording - this should be an option in your burning software. Try burning a "disc at once" to put all the songs on in a single burn pass and close the disc. If you are burning by drag-and-drop (bringing the songs on one at a time) then this will be a lot harder for the deck to play.

Has anyone had any experience with the HFP Suspension Kit sold on HandA-accessories website? I wonder if it helps improve my '04 Accord V6 sedan's performance. I like everything about the car except its handling on curves.
  • thrudthrud Member Posts: 2
I just got a 2005 Accord EX V6 last week. So far, the only things that I have done to it are stainguarding the carpets, adding a trunk tray and ordering an autodimming mirror.

Is there a list of easy modifications that folks do to their Accords? I read about swapping in the sway bars from the TL, and that looks like the sort of cheap and easy mod that I am looking for.

What else are folks doing? Poly bushings? Strut tower bars? Air intake modifications?

I would say getting rid of the all season tires in favor of some stickier summer tread tires would be step one. Maybe even going to a lower profile tire on some aftermarket wheels with the proper offset (a +1 upgrade). The OEM tires are normally picked for a quiet ride and low rolling resistance, grip is usually way down the list. Summer tread tires work better in dry or wet than all season tires. You will need a spare set of rims with snow tires if you live in an area that gets snow and ice, however.

  • htthtt Member Posts: 75
Thanks for your input. I was also thinking about replacing all the OEM rims with either Honda 17" rims sold as accessories or after market ones sold on tirerack.com. I'll be looking at about $1500-$2000 for the rims/tires combo. Next, I will replace the rear sway bar with the TL 6spd one. Then the HFP Suspension will be last. I'm still debating myself if they're worth the price.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
I think that sticky summer tires will make a huge difference - the lower profile will help some and maybe a little wider tire. We don't get a lot of snow here, but I have to get to work when we do. I always run summer tread tires - better in the wet and dry, then switch to snow tires on spare rims during the winter. A couple of years back I picked up a Subaru AWD Legacy for snow days - that plus 4 snows works even better :D

I have not driven on all season tires in a long time, but they pretty much do nothing well - in comparison to summer tires and snow tires. You may have to go with larger rims to get really sticky tires - there does not seem to be much available in OEM size.

Snow is very rare in my area. The roads may be icy for only a couple weeks per year. The winter is not very cold in the last couple years (global warming?). I guess I just have to look for a good deal on rims/tires combo for now.

What did the autodimming mirror cost, if you don't mind telling me? Are you getting the mirror from the dealer? What is involved in the installation?
  • thrudthrud Member Posts: 2
I ordered the mirror from H and A Accessories for $180 plus $7 shipping. The installation doesn't look too involved.

Curious if anyone has yet put a cold air intake on their 2003-2005 4 cyl Accord. Any noticable results? I have heard it said that it is not such a good idea because some intakes will suck up water into the engine and it's best to leave the OEM intake in place unless you only plan on driving in dry type conditions. I am not a "tuner" and so I don't if there's truth to this and I can't find anything online about this subject... Just TONS of ads selling cold air intakes.

Anyone out there with actual knowledge about this subject???
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
If you have a 4 banger Accord, then why would you even bother with one of these? They don't have that much power and this alone will not give them much more (no matter what they claim). Even with a cat back exhaust and a intake kit you are not going to make a lot of difference in the real world. As was mentioned, most of the "cold air" kits just suck air from under the hood where it is hot. Ones that make an attempt to suck cold air - like from in front of the radiator could cause the car to suck in water and hydro-lock the motor.

If you want a hot rod, you should either get a different car or be prepared to spend a lot more serious bucks to get one.

On vtec, the popular wisdom is that the best bang-for-the-buck performance upgrades are decals......

I had to laugh yesterday. I was on the Mass turnpike and passed a lowered Civic 4 door with a big fat exhaust tip. I could here the buzz resonating as I went by. What were they thinking....

Hello, I have a 1994 Honda Accord DX, that I purchased about 3 months ago. I've added some ADR S028 17" Rims with a set of low profile tires. I've painted my drums and calipers in gold to match the gold racing stripe on the car. I just purchased a set of M3 Power mirrors to replace the manual mirrors. I wanted to know if anyone has made the modification of going from manual side mirrors to power(w/LED)? If so, I really could use some direction. Installing the mirrors is no problem, I simply need to kow what wiring will be required to get bothe the power movement operationalas well as getting the LED's to function when the turn signals are on. I'm new to this hobby, but I'm having a great time finding out what can be improved on an already great vehicle.

    Thanks
    Phil

    1000hours,

I will try to give you an accurate answer, contrary to most the sarcastic answers you have reveived thus far.

I had a 1995 Acura Integra GSR 5-speed. I put in a Cold Air Intake and cat back exhaust. It added noticable power. Alos cleaned out the engine area and the air conditioning would cool much faster than before.

Usually Cold Air intakes are installed to pick up air as far away from the engine as possible. Usually very low, right behind the front wheel cowling. An yes you can get hydro-lock ( sucking water into the engine ); it happened to me going through some high water. Had to replace the engine; even with insurance it was expensive, GSR VTEC engine and the fact that it had 70K miles on it they charged me an extra $1,000. Anyway hydro lock can be prvented by installing a $50 part which is a hydro-lock cut-off valve. When I had it replaced I had a hydo lock valve installed. If you get a cold air intake make sure you install a hydo-lock cut-off valve. I had a AEM brand; Have also heard INGEN is good.

I think you would be pleased with the increase in power, usually around 10-15 horsepower and another 5-8 for a more free flowing CAT-BACK exhausts.

    Good Luck,

    Crus'n in 6th :shades:

Anyone know where to get these for an 05 4 door Accord?

    Thanks.
  • psiencepsience Member Posts: 2
I just purchased a pair from ebay that are pretty nice. There are other places, but they run about a $200 a pair. Let me know if you want some other locations to purchase.
  • srobaksrobak Member Posts: 96
Sure would. Prefer somewhere with pictures. :)

Also thinking on getting some Angel Eyes headlight assemblies too.

    Hello:

I am trying to match interior colors for my 2002 EX V6 leather coupe. I believe my interior was charcoal. Does anyone know the color code for charcoal or where I might locate this information? Sticker is missing form driver's side door panel.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
to a dealer that has a used Accord from your year and look at the door code. Also, if you call your local Honda dealer service department they should have access to the information by using your VIN.

is there a way to install an aftermarket HU in the covered cubby hole directly in front of the shifter, (04 accord lx) ? I don't want to advertise a new deck and also dont want to replace the factory panel of the radio and a/c
    thanks

This is a typical claim. Yet one would expect that someone had done a dyno run, or at least some acceleration testing, before making these kinds of claims. And the engine compartment temperature change could be neasured with a $3 thermometer. Yet these claims never seem to be backed up with any kind of performance testing - just the good faith representation that it's better by someone invested in it.

I used to road race cars and made a lot of perfomance modifications. I expected every change to improve peformance. Very few did.

I'm not being sarcastic when I say decals yield the best bang-for-the-buck performance improvement. They don't hurt performance and cost very little. When owners start documenting before-and-after performance improvements, I'll start believing otherwise. Until then I strongly encourage you to keep your money in your pocket.

Does anyone know why there are not aftermarket modifications for this engine? There are no engine reflashes available... No performance cams are available.... It's like a sea of tranquility when it comes to aftermarket modifications to the engine.

I am planning to purchase a 2005 Accord LX, but feel that the $79 price for the Premium carpeted floor mats is excessive. Where are some good places to buy floor mats at a more reasonable price (besides Wal-mart)?
  • cstilescstiles Member Posts: 465
Carpet or all season mats? I would suggest checking ebay, some of the sponsors on www.vtec.net (like H and A), and Weather Tech is a good option if you want to go the all season route. (Go to www.mats.com.) But good floor mats are not cheap so you get what you pay for. Personally, I like the rubber all season mats myself. They last forever and offer the best overall protection in all conditions.

I'm sure there are some cheaper options, like some of the automotive supply stores (Pep Boys, Shucks, Auto Zone, etc.).

    Good luck.
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
    H and A above, Edmund's sponsor $67.20
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
The LX (and all Accords) comes with carpeted floor mats. I would suggest using those and if they ever wear out, THEN spend your money for the "Premium" mats. I am betting you will not have to spend that money, unless you keep the car a long, long time.

The Premium mats are nicer, but not nice enough to justify tossing the good mats in the trash.

Thank you for clarifying this. I was not looking at the V6, so I guess I do have to pay extra to get floor mats with the car.

I bought a set of premium mats (H&A). And as mats go, they are nice. I'm using them during the summer and then during the winter I'll use the mats that came with the car.

According to Honda web site, floor mats are standard with all Accords:

Bzzzzzzzzz, sorry that is the wrong answer.

If you look here on the Honda web page and scroll down "INTERIOR: COMFORT & CONVENIENCE" you will see that floor mats are now standard on all sedans.

BTW, I checked the Accord coupe specs and it shows them standard for all coupes too.

He is wrong, you don't need to buy mats with an Accord now.

    Carbuyer25,

I had looked at the H & A Accessories web site and their information is wrong
http://www.handa-accessories.com/accint03.html It doesn't show the floor mats being provided for all Honda Accords.

The Honda web site does show floor mats for all Accord models; I believe this just started happening with the 2005 models.

    Sorry for any confusion.

    Cheers,

    MidCow

P.S.- Dwynne, that you for so graciously pointing out my mistake twice.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
I just didn't want the poster to pay the dealer for mats that were included with the car. This a nice touch for Honda, I think. Nothing is cheesier than buying a new car and then having either no mats or having the dealer want to charge you extra for them.

When I got my 3 series the dealer said "we even throw in a set of floor mats" - at the price, that indeed was the least you they could do :-)

I have not driven on all season tires in a long time, but they pretty much do nothing well

HAHAHA Our new 05 sedan 4 bangers tires are great! At 350 miles on the car I slamed it into a hard sharp right turn and then a hard sharp left at 40 mph. Much like a autocross run if you will. And the tires held good enough to hoiste the inside rear wheel at 36 psi on all corners. I was very impressed. Went in and called my brother and told him to get his ralley art ready cause the accord has game. Cant wait to run this car at a autocross. Wife and I are taking it on a two lane corner bashing day long drive this weekend in western arkansas. :)

I'm probably going to purchase a 2005 Accord EX-L Sedan w/ Auto (not sure whether or not I want the NAV system yet) in late June or late July. I'm seriously considering replacing the rear deck speakers and the front door speakers. I'm uncertain about an amplifier, but I'll probably just swap the factory speakers out for good ones and skip the amp.

How difficult is it to do this swap? Does the entire front door panel have to be removed to replace those speakers? Or is it the case where the grills will come right off?

How about the rear deck speakers? If it's a real pain to replace the front ones, especially since I'm not a pro installer, I may just do the rear ones.

    Advice please!!

I've looked at Crutchfield, Circuit City, etc., and it appears that I'll need to spend $150 for each pair to get decent replacements. I wish Honda offered designer factory systems, like JBL, Bose, etc., like other manufacturers do.
  • highrollerhighroller Member Posts: 351
I would let a professional installer do the installing. You would probably have to spend some money but the installers can get the job done.
  • srobaksrobak Member Posts: 96
At 350 miles, even a set of rollerskate wheels ought to be able to climb walls... wait until you get about 3500 miles on them, then see what you think.

I'm looking at getting an accord in the 1992 range as I can pay cash for the car and then won't feel bad when I start modifying it.

    My questions are:

How difficult is it to convert the old arm killing window device to electric.

Is $5000 a good price for a 1992 accord? Canadian priced anyway.

Is there anything specific I should look at on the car? Known problems?

Has anyone ever added turbo to this car?

    Thanks

    Hi all,
I'm pretty new to these boards and to the car buying thing. I was wondering if some of you know the answer to this. I've googled a bit and couldn't find the answer. I'm going to by the 2005 EX-L sedan 4cyl auto (no nav) pretty soon. I know it comes with the 6 cd in dash changer and xm radio but i was wondering if the CD player is able to play CD-R's with MP3's burned on them?

    thanks
  • todd7todd7 Member Posts: 16

I have the exact same car you are looking at, and the in dash 6 disc will play those formats. I play them all the time. Good luck on your purchase

    Todd7,

thanks so much for answering my question. This makes me happy. while 6 commercial audia discs is good, 6 discs full of MP3s will hold the bulk of my music collection burned on CD-R.
  • gatrhumpygatrhumpy Member Posts: 126
Let me clarify. The stock Accord system will play mp3s on a CD that most CD players will play. At most, depending on how long the song is and how large the mp3 files are, you will be able to only get 15-25 songs on ONE CD. That's alright, but not the greatest. Your stock Accord system will play those discs. The Accord, however, will NOT play mp3 discs, as what you might be thinking. You will need the mp3 player from Honda or another source to do that. Hope that helps.
  • swordmanswordman Member Posts: 7
ah. it is as i feared. thanks for the clarification. does the mp3 player from honda replace the standard system that comes in the car or is it just something they plug into it?

i don't want to replace the 6disc in dash cd/xm radio. well i don't plan on using xm after 3 months but doubt it can be taken out easily.
  • fractalpantherfractalpanther Member Posts: 6
    Okay, lets clarify.

I have 2 mp3 discman's as well as a KOSS mp3 player in my Pony. On average mp3's you get off the net are about 128k bit rate so the file size is down. You don't get 100% quality but you can get near 200 songs per cd. These are average radio play 5-10min songs.

Now if you are into electronica or progressive trance the songs can range from 5-20mins long each so you have to really look at file size before you work out how much your cd's can hold.

Now, with DVD players being able to be put into a car, that is one of the better options for having 1000's of songs.

Normal CDR = 800megs of space. Average mp3 size is 5megs so.

    800 / 5 = 160 of songs give or take 20.

With a dvd-r, it's a lot more space. and if you get a high end player/burner with dual layer or one of the other media types you can get into the thousands of songs per disc quite quickly.

BUT over the last few years while looking into computer modification I came across a car stereo unit that was a removable harddrive. So what this means is, you leave your car and slide the stereo unit out and then slide that puppy into your computer. Transfer 200gigs of music and slide it back into your car. Nearly infinate music in your car.

I'll have to try to find the name of it again. I think they did a review of it on voidedwarranty.com or case-mods.com. I found it last year and it was selling for about $500+ But in today's market you could get it for a lot cheaper AND/OR build it yourself if you know much about computers and can get your dremel working.

Once I get a new car, one of the key mods I will do is an LCD monitor with a PC built into the car. I already did something like this on my pony but there's no monitor, I have to remotely connect and preset the system while parked outside my house. And because there's no display for the computer I have it randomly play from the playlist.

Note: With the LCD with a PC hooked up, winamp has some of those nice visual effects that you can customize. When I'm done the job, I'll be posting pics on cardomain.com

No one has answered my previous questions though about the 1992 accord. How would I go about converting roll down windows to power windows?

    Thanks
    FP
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
No, but you can add the MP3 player and it will. Looks like $403 for the EX-L from H&A.

    http://www.handa-accessories.com/accelect03.html

it goes in the storage area in front of the shifter / under the A/C controls. H&A has the install instructions posted so you can how hard it is to do (does not look that bad) if you want to buy it cheap from them and put it in yourself. Or, get the dealer to do it now that you know a fair price for it.
