The car wasn't waxed prior to my installing the spoiler. Also, I cleaned the area with rubbing alcohol where the tape sticks.

That's a good point about the spoiler not being in exactly the right position...the drill template makes it pretty tough to improperly position the spoiler, but it's entirely possible that the alignment from one side to the other might have been slightly out of place, making it hard for the tape to hold it in that position.

I also wonder if I might have washed the car too soon after installing the spoiler. I can't remember for sure, but I think I washed it less than 24 hours later. Even though the instructions don't say anything about waiting to wash the car for any length of time after installation, maybe the tape wasn't ready to get wet yet. I waited almost a week after re-installing it with the new tape and it seems to be holding just fine so far.

Even with the problems, I'd recommend the decklid spoiler. It looks great and I don't see very many 03-05 Accords with them, so it makes the car a little more unique.

I own an '03 4cyl Accord EX-L. I've noticed that the EX V6 models come with a felt trunk lid liner. Does anyone know if I can have this trunk lid liner added to my car? Is this something I want the dealer to do, or can I purchase the liner from a vendor and do the work myself? Thanks.
  • whitecloud1whitecloud1 Member Posts: 268
I'm pretty sure you can have that added. If you can't buy it from the dealer, check at handa.com or a recycler. Any 2003-2005 Accord ought to work. Looks simple enough to me, but then again, even if you had trouble putting it in, any body shop probably has the correct fasteners/experience to install it for you.
  • mrbill1957mrbill1957 Member Posts: 823
One thing you might want to keep in mind, If the felt liner weighs enough, it could effect how the trunk lid opens up when you push the button on your key. I know that adding spoilers requires a spring change, so the liner could also cause the same problem.

:) Ok I am new here but it is hard to find a good Forum about Accord and add-ons. I bought a 2005 Honda Accord V6 EX with Nav. Around 4 months ago and it is the first car that still have me hooked on wanting to do more to it than any other car I have ever owned.

The On board Nav. is great and everything else is too, but I find myself wanting to do more and more to the car. First I had the Windows Tinted and I had a rear lighted spoiler put on, (BTW: any truth to having to have the trunk spring upgraded??) then I added a Motorola BLNC 1000 Bluetooth Car Kit to my car, (the Bluetooth device lets my cell phone work thru my car with a push of a button PRICELESS!!!). Now I find I want to add more and more to the car, but do not know where to go next, Chrome Tail Pipe inserts, Fog Lights, different trim options inside the car etc….

Does anyone have any thoughts on where to go next?

I added this to my '05 EX-L sedan about a month ago. It's a great and relatively cheap upgrade, and the trunk lid doesn't require any modification -- the holes for the clips are already there.

I got mine from Majestic Honda (hondaautomotiveparts.com). Look under "rear tray-side lining" in the parts menu for the EX V6 model.

    You will need:

    Liner # 84630-SDB-A20ZA $35.58
    and 12 clips:
    2 clips # 90666-SA7-003ZW $3.76 ($1.88 each)
    2 clips # 91561-S84-A21ZA $0.82 ($0.41 each)
    8 clips # 90667-S0D-003ZC $10.88 ($1.36 each)

Shipping the liner costs a bundle. It's one molded piece, so it can't be folded and requires a very large box. After shipping & handling the total was around $85.

Installing it takes less than 15 minutes. There are 3 different sizes of clips but it's very easy to figure out which clip goes where. The liner is very light and doesn't seem to add any significant weight to the trunk lid at all.

I read the instructions in the link someone kindly posted detailing how to replace the antenna mast cable if your antenna motor works but the antenna won't fully retract or extend. My question is this: how do you access the antenna motor in a stationwagon? The access panel is very small. Does one have to go through the rear brake light? Any help is appreciated.
  • mrbill1957mrbill1957 Member Posts: 823
Before you replace the antenna, have you tried lubricating the mast itself? They can get a little gummed up with age.

  • martha5martha5 Member Posts: 3
Actually, I haven't and I'll try that next.
Do you have any ideas for accessing the motor in an accord stationwagon?
    Thank you for your reply.

    Mr. Bill:
What would you suggest - WD40 or all purpose oil?
  • mrbill1957mrbill1957 Member Posts: 823
WD40 or silicone spray I would think would work OK.. The antenna is most likely clutch driven, and I'll bet you hear a click-click-click before the antenna reaches its full travel. The clutch is doing it's job, but the mast is too tight because of dirt deposits that it can't move. It may take a few tries before the gunk is flushed out.

    Good luck

The dealer installed mine and they had waxed the trunk under the deck spoiler I could see wax on the trunk. As far as my problem with the spoiler I went back to the dealer and they are ordering a new spoiler. The service rep said the one they installed is out of shape and it would do no good to try and re-tape it. He did say it is possible for the trunk lid to be a little out of shape but not likely. I just took it yesterday so it will be a week or more before they get the new one. Sounds logical. I hope it goes ok.I agree that it adds a lot to appearance.

Anybody use a cold air intake system? My bro added that to his
g35 coupe and he claims it's more responsive. In addition, he said to change the muffler. It can add HP.

    Hey everyone

I know that the dealer charges way too much to have parts installed to your accord (ex, spoiler, fog lights, etc) Does anyone know how much honda charges for teir sports package anyway? I'm just curious as to how much of a savings it really is.

I just purchased a 1998 Honda Accord Sedan EX from my grandmother (I dont have a photo but this is it - http://www.edmunds.com/media/generations/accord/98.honda.accord.500.jpg). It has the leather seats, cd player, sunroof (or does the EX denote all of that?), and only has 52k miles on it.

I don't necessarily know much about cars, so forgive me if I sound stupid. :) Anyways, I wanted to make it look a bit sportier. I was wanting suggestions on items I could purchase to do so. I do know that I want different headlights and taillights. Where would I go about getting those for the best deal and what are the best types of places to get them installed at?
  • highrollerhighroller Member Posts: 351
I would get the aftermarket stuff from ebay. Installing the lights are extremely easy if you have the tools, but if you want them to get installed, i would just go to any auto mechanic shop (go to one that looks like it needs customers and bribe them for cheap haha), they can charge you up to $5-$20 for the labor.

    Best Regards,

How does one get duplicate keyless entry car keys?

    Thanks,
    S
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
Since the Accord has a key with a computer chip it has to be made at the dealer and programmed to your car. It will probably cost $150-$200 for a replacement key.

I just purchased a 2002 Accord-V6 about 4-weeks ago. It was in pristine condition! I hit another car 2-weeks ago. She was at fault (ticketed for failure to yield). Her ins. co. is making me use aftermarket/salvaged parts (front end damage $3499.98). Since I have to pay out of pocket to put Honda parts on my car, any recommendations for upgrades? I really appreciate any advise, and since I have been debating with the ins. for 2-weeks I'm in sort of a hurry. Thanks to all!
This is my 3rd Honda, wish I new of this site earlier.
  • lojefflojeff Member Posts: 29
My recomendation.....get a lawyer. They cannot make you use aftermarket or salvaged parts. (unless you mean rebuilt). I am not sure what you mean by "I have been debating with the ins for 2-weeks". Demand OEM parts.
  • dgsxrrdgsxrr Member Posts: 20
I have demanded new oem parts, or at least wanted Honda parts if used, and no putty. Their ins. told me to that he and the Honda Dealer would not work with me. I finally went to the Honda and said whatever. The A/C needs to replaced; thst I don't care if used it's the body parts is my only problem.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
had an article a couple of years ago about aftermarket parts. They usually won't fit with the precision of OEM parts. Like the other poster said, get a lawyer. She was at fault and her insurance company should pay to restore your car to your liking. Your not asking for anything above and beyond having the car put back into the condition it was before it was hit.

Also, is your state a diminished value state? In some cases you could sue for diminished value since your car is newer and it's value has presumably been decreased by the accident.
  • dgsxrrdgsxrr Member Posts: 20
It looks like your right. I hate to involve my ins. co. and have my premium increase. Most lawyers won't waste time with small claims, and my hours are 8-5:30. So I think I'll still make my ins. follow up with my request of OEM or Honda parts and then go to court. I'm not familiar with the terms, what's the diff. between OEM and aftermarket parts. Thanks again!

    hey all

I've been reading about how you shouldn't accept things like rustproofing, window etching and paint sealant form the dealer b/c there are just things they throw in to make a profit. As far as paint sealant is concerned, is this something you can easily do yourself? What are some of the off the shelf paint sealants? Thanks for your help
    kevin
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    capt41470,

If you are writing about a brand new vehicle, you have absolutely no need for any kind of paint sealant. Don't waste your money. If you want, you can apply a coat of wax once or twice a year. But it's not necessary.

As long as water "beads" on your horzontal surfaces (hood, roof, trunk) you know that your paint is in fine shape. It will no doubt stay that way without any care for a minimum of four or five years.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
Aftermarket parts are parts that are made by an outside company with similar specs to the OEM parts. The OEM parts are factory made parts that are made by the manufacturers themselves.
  • capt41470capt41470 Member Posts: 38
Thanks for the advice. Since I will be in the market for a new car, I just want to make sure I know what to tell these guys when they try to push these things on me. Thanks again

    Lojeff

My sentiments exactly. If it was the other lady's fault then dgsxrr should be able to get new OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer, i.e. in this case Honda) parts.

Before looking into a lawyer though, you might want to look at small claims court.

Also do not sign any release or accept any checks for partial payment (many times this releases the insurance compnay from any further liability). Document all of your costs and keep the receipts.

The lady's insurance compnay is just trying to bully you to save themselves money. The sad thing is they can get away with bullying a lot of the time.

    Good Luck dgsxrr,

Does anyone know if aftermarket parts exist for the sliding armrest in a 2004 Accord LX-V6. The sliding armrest originally on the car is okay, but I'd like to find out if there is something else out there that is:

    A. A little higher
    B. has more or softer padding

My car is silver and thus the interior is black. I've also noticed that the black material on the armrest seems to show wear from use more than I would like it too for a year old car.

    Anyone else notice this?

    Thanks to all.

Has anyone purchased the auto dim mirror for their Accord? If so, do you like how it functions? I have one in my 5 series and love it. Just want to be sure the Honda mirror is as good. Thanks.
  • mrbill1957mrbill1957 Member Posts: 823
I have not seen any different armrests for the Accord.

Since you don't like the one that's there, why not just take the top to an auto upholster and have them make a higher more padded top?

I also have seen someone that sewed a homemade pad for their car. It just strapped on to the origional armrest, I think with a couple of velcro straps.

My understanding of those terms is - for example - a 2002 Honda Accord's

    1) hood is stamped by Honda, making it a Factory part,
    2) AC compressor is made by Denso, a non-Honda company, making that an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer for the final assembler) part, and
    3) Brembo brake rotors, if equipped, are Aftermarket parts

I appreciate the info. To follow up; A lawyer isn't going to waste time for a few grand, small claims is looking to be in the future for (diminished value). The accident is public record (police ticket) so it will be on CARFAX etc., damage disclosure (greater than $500) I would tell them about the accident anyway. Any auto dealer/car enthusiast can tell when body work has been done. The fact that it took over a week before I got a rental, (he wanted me to accept a sub-compact), His phone message telling me that Honda refuses to work with me. I spoke with Honda and asked since when does an ins. agent dictated whom could bring Honda who they would or wouldn't do business with. I'll send his office a letter with all this info. prior to small claims. I was also informed to let Honda work on the car, yet don't drive the car off the lot until satisfied with repairs. The agent offered me $250. as a first time offer of a settlement over the phone last week when I told him my neck hurt and I had an appt. to see a orthopedic Dr.

    Hello All,
I'm thinking about purchasing accessory alloy wheels for my 2005 LX V6. Does anyone have any suggestions on where (i.e., website) I could get the best deal? These best I've seen so far was at hondapartscheap.com where they were $156.00 each and another $25 for shipping. Thank you!

    indianrider,

The ebay listing to which you linked is no longer available. Since you didn't specify whether you are driving a sedan or coupe, I'll presume it's the sedan. Here are spoiler installation instructions so you can decide for yourself about how hard it might be to install:

    Wing Spoiler:

    Deck Lid Spoiler:

I put on one my son's Dodge intrepid. Pretty easy once you get past drilling through a perfect ally good trunk lid. Note- use new metal bits and when your drilling the second time, (with the larger bit be careful. It will "grab" the sheet metal then it passes through. So have a good grip and go slow). Happy drilling dgsxrr

I just bought Accord LX 4D auto and was wondering if any one has suggestions for putting leather seating as an aftermarket equipment. Does this will cause any issues and where one can get these ? Is it hard to install ? Can I do that myself ? What about the wood trim console ?
  • mrbill1957mrbill1957 Member Posts: 823
You didn't say what year your LX is, but the new ones have side air bags mounted in the seat backs. Aftermarket seatcovers of any kind could effect the operation of the airbag, not a good idea.

My opinion is don't alter the seats you have. No aftermarket installers can guarantee that the side airbags would deploy correctly in an accident, and I doubt that they would even be willing to put them on your "05 anyways.

If your serious about needing leather, the safest way would be locating seats from a wrecked EX-L. You would get upgraded power seats, (provided that the electrical connections are in your LX).

I hate to say it, but if you wanted leather, you should have upgraded to an EX-L.

    Mrbill
  • saxe10595saxe10595 Member Posts: 35
    Thanks.

I did consider EX-L but prices were almost 3.5 k higher as I paid 16864 for 05 LX auto 4D. It makes sense if airbags sensors don't work. When I asked the dealer he said they can do that in 1000 bucks-some one comes to their dealership to install but he wasn't sure about sensors. I guess they just want to do buisiness.
  • mrbill1957mrbill1957 Member Posts: 823
Its not the airbag sensors that you have to worry about it altering the seats, its the actual airbag itself that is mounted in the side of the seat. The force of the airbag deploying has to rip thru the material covering the side of the seat, so if material unsuitable is used, the bag may not deploy correctly.

My question would also be with the installer, is their work certified to be compatible with the airbag? I would hope the dealer is offering something that Honda is also willing to stand behind just in case.

I just bought a 2005 Accord Coupe EX-L V6 w/ Nav. The dealership had already installed a rear deck lid spoiler prior to my purchase. And actually, the foam tape they use during installation is already pulling up and not holding (as I've read many people have problems with), so I'm having them fix it.

But I'm considering asking if they could change out the deck lid spoiler with the rear wing spoiler if I paid the price difference. Has anyone ever done this before? Do you know if the holes drilled for the deck lid spoiler would be in the same place as those needed for the wing spoiler? I wouldn't want to make the change if the holes drilled wouldn't be the same.

Thanks for any help/advice you can give! :)

Dealer said there will be no issues in regard to sensors to best of his knowledge. I will call them on monday to find out whether installer is certified or not but I doubt that Honda will stand behind any changes where sensors could be affected.

The holes will not match they aren"t even close. These deck lid spoiler although nice looking have something wrong with them. My dealer just installed another one on my 05 Accord 4door. All that done was transfer the space under it from the top driver side to the bottom passenger side. It looked fine when I left the dealer but the whole side had came undone in 3 days I saw when I washed the car. It is better then having the space on the top but it is still not ok. I met another owner who has the deck lid spoiler he said he has been back to the dealer 5 times with his and it is still not perfect. he bought his from a different dealer. I May try to fix it myself.
