The installation instructions found here will tell you what you need.

    http://www.collegehillshonda.com/instructions/03accord/06decklidspoiler.pdf

I would think one of the important steps will be painting the drilled holes to keep rust from developing. Since the painted area is covered, you probably could even use a rust preventative paint.

Yes, I got the instructions, but it doesn't specify the kind of drill bit to use, and since I've never drilled into a car before I don't know what to buy (Titanium tipped, diamond tipped, etc.)
  • tallman1tallman1 Member Posts: 1,874
He has those directions but he's not sure what kind of drill bits to use.

I'm not of much help but a call to a few body shops should give you an answer.
  • kcrossleykcrossley Member Posts: 182
Yes, I just thought somebody here may have done this before. I'll call around on Monday.
  • mrbill1957mrbill1957 Member Posts: 823
Standard brand name drill bits are all you need. Your just drilling into sheetmetal, so as long as your drills are sharp, it will be fine.

The directions specify that you start with a smaller bit, then work up to the final size. This is so you don't drill too much metal at once, and bend the sheetmetal. They also specify metric bits, fractional bits will also work fine, your basically creating holes for bolts to pass thru. You can cross reference the metric size to fractional, and use something that's very close.

I can tell you that a body shop will go to their drawer of bits, eyeball something that looks like the same diameter that the bolts are, and drill the holes. I've mounted spoilers on other cars, even spoilers that didn't have any installation instructions, drilling the holes is a no brainer step.

    Sounds simple enough. Thanks Mrbill.

Post back with how it goes. Good luck.

You need to have a punch mark (some kind of indention) for the drill bit to follow, so the drill bit does not wander.

Is this an OEM spoiler? or some other manufacturer. I would not trust anything other than OEM.
  • kcrossleykcrossley Member Posts: 182
Yes, it's an OEM from H and A. I'm actually deciding between a deck lid and rear wing spoiler. Any suggestions?

H and A is a good site. I have purchased oil and air filters, among other things from them. Good prices too. Go with the one you like best. I have the wing (large) type, mainly because it was on the car when I bought it.

With a 2 or 4-door? How does it look?

Crap, you're making this hard. I was happy with the decklid until I saw your ride. BTW, I'd either pull that photo of your car showing your tag or edit it out.

What's the deal with people not wanting anyone to see their plates? I don't get it. If I'm cruising down the road anyone can see it then, can't they?

I just purchased a 2007 Honda Accord SE V-6 4 door sedan. Do you thin the real tail lamp "lenses" from teh 06 and 07 Hybrid will fit this car (lenses only) and what bulbs would I need?? Anyone done this conversion???

Also, the new wing for the 07s is real nice, it even says Accord across the bottom (nice touch).

Car just broken and it is a rocket!!! :P

Yes, but now, my guess would be with the technology that exists, hackers/thieves could probably locate you by your tag and IP address together. I just blur my tags in microsoft's 'Paint' accessory.

Nice pics. The only thing that I would change would be take a little Goop-Off and get rid of the Dealer's sticker. Other than that, it is a sweet ride.

On a different note, right after I put a clear bug deflector on my '06 Pilot, I see one on a '03-'05 Accord and it looked neat. Blended right into the hood. I'm not sure how well the bug deflectors work on the cars as much as the SUV/trucks. Cars seen to already de aerodynamic enough not to warrent them, but boy it catches the eye.

P.S. - I can deal with the little "8" sticker on the rear quarter window, and I wouldn't park to much farther foward, you might catch a few fly balls.

I saw an Accord with a bug deflector, but it wasn't clear. Looked very strange on a car. Believe me bugs do stick to the hood, and if you leave them on for a couple days, they are next to impossible to get off (hence the bra in second pic). A bug deflector would protect only the hood, and not the front bumper. The nose mask can be a pain in the *** to put on and take off, so it hasn't been on much since "love bug" season ended.

Car Looks nice man, good job. I have the same wing without the light built into it. Honda's factory wing says Accord on the bottom of it.

Anyone have any thoughts on the tail lamp lenses from the Hybrid being put on the std Accord sedan.

when I get a chance I will snap a few pics of our '03 Accord EX (w/ spoiler).

You can see my '06 Pilot on my Carspace (click below). I'm planning on adding accessories here and there, plus doing the before / after pictures with each thing I add.

Nice Pilot. I'm thinking about getting a Ridgeline, and it will probably be the Amazon Green. I like that color. :)

I know the silver is one of the more popular colors, but it was down to either this or the dark blue, and the blue was too dark for either my wife or myself. I would rather have a nice Hawaiian Blue (Hint), but the silver works also. My wife would have loved either a Packer Yellow or Packer Green. Guess you can tell there is a rivalry in our household. :shades:

either this or the dark blue,

Blue is a good color, but it has to be the right color, and shade blue, if you know what I mean. The Accord blue is not it.

I got the Black because at the time (late 03) they didn't have much of a selection in EX V6. So it was either Black or that ugly red. Not my type of red either. Black looks great when it's clean, but it's hard to keep it that way.

As far as other accessories, I would give a thumbs up for the window visors, and a thumbs down on the moonroof deflector, and a "it's your decision" on the nose mask. The nose mask doesn't look too bad on black, because you can hardly see it. On a silver car it would kind of stand out, like the mud guards would (they don't come in body color). Lately I've been just wiping the bugs off every other day, instead of going through all the nose mask hassle.

PS: NICE CAR!! And if you have any questions about the car, I may be able to help. I bought the Service Manual from H and A too. The owner's manual doesn't give all the details, and I like to do my own maintenance.

    Hi,
I am new to this forum. I want to know has anyone done retrofiting the headlight. I m thinking of using TSX HID set and retrofit in my Accord OEM headlight. Anyone know the place that can do it in LA area. I found some forum showing detail how to retrofit yourself. But i want to do with professionals. The reason I am using TSX set is It is DOT approved.
I have 06 Accord EX 2.4L I4 engine. What will be the cost effective way to boost the power? What are the options i can do to get more power from this engine.
    Thanks...

actually, 215/55-17 is going to be a bit off (2.4%). A few other sizes are closer to keeping the same overall diameter.

I just purchased a Nose Mask (for 07 Accord) and am having problems trying to install it. The instructions say to “insert the tabs between the headlight and bumper” as well as “between the headlight and fender”. My problem is that there is no clearance between the headlight and other body parts for inserting the tabs.

Has anyone else put on a Nose Mask and experienced this issue? How did you get the tabs in? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  • elroy5elroy5 Member Posts: 3,735
It's not easy, but the tabs will go in between the headlight and fender. I used a butter knife as a wedge to kind of spread them apart a little, then push the tab in. Putting on and removing the nose mask, can be a pain. I haven't put mine on for a while, just wipe the bugs off every other day so they don't damage the paint. You can't wipe off the paint chips though (from rocks), so it's your choice. Is it worth the trouble, or not?

Anyone installed an auto day/night mirror on an 06/07? If so, was it a fairly simple install?
  • elroy5elroy5 Member Posts: 3,735
Here is a link to H and A accessories. They sell the mirrors, and have instructions for each model Accord. Hope this helps.

I have a hard time thinking about taking a butter knife to my new car. It won’t scratch or dent anything when using it to spread them apart? Besides, there's no room even to get the knife started, that’s how close the body parts are to the headlight. I’ll keep thinking about it, and maybe I’ll get up the nerve to try it. Anyone know how the dealer does it when they install the mask?
  • atlantabennyatlantabenny Member Posts: 735
I'd use a mild soap and water mix to lubricate, and start with the headlight and fender gap (which has less give) and end with the more pliant bumper section. I know you've made the purchase but have you looked into a magnetic half mask ($54 on eBay) ? It virtually prevents scratching since it has no air space between it and the paint and is very easy to install/uninstall. Use one myself and happy with the results.
  • odie6lodie6l Member Posts: 1,173
"have you looked into a magnetic half mask"

The only problem with magnetic masks is they hold moisture under them. The little ribbons for the back of your car don't hold as much moisture, but if left on long enough can stick to / peel off your paint. If you do go the magnetic mask route, my advise would be take it off at least 1 - 2 times a week and wipe both the paint and the magnetic back.

I don't use the edge of the knife, only the flat, smooth sides. The part where the flat part transitions into the handle is used as a wedge to open the gap just a little. It will be next to impossible to do it (get the tabs in) without opening the gap with something. Good luck

Thanks! I just have to get the nerve up to try. It is suppose to rain in a week from today for a couple of days, so I think that I'll wait until after the rain.

As far as the magnetic material, I think that I'll try the mask, as I have already purchased it. I know that some people say that the mask will do damage too, but I want to do something to protect from all of the rocks that get thrown up at the front of the car... not to mention the bugs too (boy does a new Accord attract them).
  • atlantabennyatlantabenny Member Posts: 735
See your point. I put them on for long trips only; since I do mostly city driving, they're off most of the time. BTW, what do you mean by ribbons for the back of the car ?

Is it possible to install a rear view camera on Accord w?Navs ? Not looking to install a separate screen, but looking to mate the rearview with the factory Nav screen. Anybody here has any experience with this or is it even possible. Any tips or guidance would be appreciated..!!
  • odie6lodie6l Member Posts: 1,173
I would strongly reccomend against the rear view camera if you are in any area that gets snow, or at least anyplace that puts salt down on the road. The camera's are NOT like the roof / rear cams that are on Nascar's cars, they don't clean themselves, and get dirty very fast.

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. I put the bra on yesterday! I ended up using a small plastic putty knife to help separate the headlight from the other body parts and it worked without marring anything.

Thanks again for all the suggestions and help!

I live in PA where we get snow and use salt and my 2006 Odyssey has the rear camera and it works great...I highly recommend if it can be retrofitted to your cars. Never an issue with dirt but you certainly need to wash it, like all other parts of your car, when you are washing your entire car.

I have already added the Metal center trim kit and now want to add the rest of the interior trim. My question is about the 2 small doors over the storage tray and the power outlet. Can you buy the trim to replace these doors. From what I see it looks like you must buy the ash tray kit in order to replace these doors. Can you replace these doors without buying the ashtray/lighter kit? In a genuine honda part. Or can you buy the ashtray kit and just replace the doors. I dont want or need the lighter or ashtray.

    Thanks

Now that we have our accord (07 EX-L, black), I am going to add a few pragmatic accessories (as against for looks). Here is what I have thought of so far:

    * Door edge guards -- dont trust kids to not bang into the next car
    * Fender wall trim -- hopefully some protection from narrow garage door opening
    * Splash guards
    * US Spec ipod interface

May go for 3M's paint protection film too. Any other good suggestions?
  • jimmibondijimmibondi Member Posts: 12
I am considering the US Spec more for the auxiliary input than the ipod. Is there perhaps a good cheaper solution just for the auxiliary input?

I want to get the fog lights and deck lid spoiler for my '06 accord sedan and I noticed they're each about $100 cheaper on Handa-Accessories.com . Does anyone know if a dealership would be willing to install these accessories if I bought them online and brought them to the dealership?...they would be the same parts they would sell me for more money.
  • elroy5elroy5 Member Posts: 3,735
The problem with this idea is, the dealer would charge so much for installation (and don't forget shipping costs, they are probably pretty high on something the size of a spoiler), you would not come out ahead. If you could install them yourself, it would save you plenty.

I own a 2006 Honda Accord Coupe EX V4. I was thinking of buying a remote car starter. I just found out from the dealer that it's giong to cost 400 for the part and installation and an additional charge for programing the immobilizer key of 132 (includes new key).

    1) is it really worth 500 for this luxury. I do live in the Northeast so winters are cold

    2) should i get it installed away from the dealer to pay less money.

    3) is it going to void my entire warranty if i buy it elsewhere and not at the dealer.

    4) any suggestions of which one i should get.

    thx in advance

IMHO, no. You really shouldn't be warming your car up. With today's cars you should start driving on a cold engine and take it easy while it warms ups. Letting it idle wastes gas.

    2) should i get it installed away from the dealer to pay less money.

It will probably cost less at an electronics shop.

    3) is it going to void my entire warranty if i buy it elsewhere and not at the dealer.

No. You warranty will remain intact unless they can prove that the remote starter is what caused the issue you want covered under warranty.

    4) any suggestions of which one i should get.

    No.
