To these people, it's "just a car" and nothing else. I had a very well off uncle like that. He bought new Chevys...usually the "middle" model. He would drive them for many years and then buy another. In his later years, I think he upgraded himself to a Chrysler.
While there are truly affluent individuals who also drive the Benzes, BMWs and Lexus, the author clusters the rich majority as the low-profile, understated crowd.
It's all about life philosophies, isn't it ?
Lets get back to sharing Prices Paid and specific Buying Experiences ...

Any Suggestions / Comments on the price quote?
Thanks
Frank Kent Honda wanted $299 for vehicle VIN etching on the Accord. He explained it was already done to all their cars.
Vandergriff Honda's superslick financial officer explained that 'by state law' he was required to explain some charges. I thought it was required fees and taxes. Turned out to be credit life, extended tire warranty, vehicle etching (again), etc., all listed without prices. Come to find out it was over $4200 tacked on to the $21,000 CR-V(!).
Fortunately I came with eyes wide open, and left with both vehicles at the original agreed to price (thanks to the Carbuyingtips site). But in both cases I left feeling the dealerships had been less than completely forthcoming.
One of the networks did a expose on the dealer finance scams-and all of them had extra charges for all manner of things-this one large chain-one of their locations is a honda dealer in Dallas I believe even has a report they put together on every sale identifying how much they skinned out of the buyer in the "financing" process. The network "buyer" wore a hidden camera-oh how I did love those snakes. Those guys were real live crooks and have cheated people out of millions of dollars.
Be careful out there-particularly of that finance guy-you should never ever see or use that guy.
I sell for a living and one of my competitors sells a knock off product of mine that is poorly made and I dearly love to show people who are buying his product how to get a 40% reduction in the price for the knock off product. Not all sales reps are crooks but some are-be careful out there.
You weren't really "bypassing" anyone.

"The dealer is the last place you would want to get financing from"
Really?
Let's see...this is an Accord forum, right?
Right now, Honda is offering 1.9 % financing on Accords for 36 months. For 48 months, it's 2.9 and for 60 months, it's 3.9.
Do you really think the banks and credit unions you've suggested can match or beat these current rates?
BTW-what does your dealership charge for etching. Also how does etching glass improve your odds against getting your vehicle stolen-2 minutes and a hammer and the glass is gone.

The F&I person offered up the low Honda rates right away. Yes, she did try to sell me an insurance policy and a funky 3rd party extended warranty, but after a polite but firm no, she wrote up exactly what I wanted.

Last week I had a customer so loyal to her credit union that she refused my 2.9 financing for 48 months and opted instead to use her credit union who charged her two points higher.
I think she thought there were strings attached or something?
Always been curious about the supposed purpose of this added benefit.

Any suggestions PLEASE!!!
I later found out the the car has at least $1000 worth of body damage that still needs fixing. The certified inspector didn't pick up on it...and the dealer says sorry, it is your car now
Its a great car (2003 EX V6), but don't trust that the dealers have done what they are supposed to when inspecting these cars. Buyer beware!

If you like the car and the repairs aren't a big deal, you may want to just suck it up and live with the dealer's oversight. However, if not, you have every reason to raise hell! I am an attorney in Wyoming - so I can't help you. But, in my experience, you would have recourse against the dealership if you are willing to pursue it. You could also pursue the issue with Honda. Honda has standards for "Certified" used cars and your car should not have been certified. My guess is that Honda would be interested to know that it has a dealership that is certifying vehicles without a proper inspection.
I'm going to trade-in a black 2002 Ford Escape XLT 4x2. It's fully loaded, minus the 4x4 and moon roof. It has 42k miles, and is in excellent condition.
Are these quotes fair. BTW, I'm in the Northern KY/Cincinnati area. These quotes are from Honda of Frankfort, in Frankfort, KY. Thanks.

Is the Honda brand spoiler worth an extra $300?
I figure even if the aftermarket spoiler only lasts a few years - I could always buy a replacement and still come out ahead.
$21956.00 Sale Price
$490.00 Destination
$1402.88 State Tax
$55.53 Inv. Tax
$175.55 Doc, Reg, Title, Inspection.
$24079.06 Total Price.
Also could the posts be a little more clear - When you say $22,300 (or what ever) is that for the 2.3 or V6 - auto or manual - TT&L included?
The $22,300 price includes destination charges, but does not include 6% sales tax and $149 for title, registration, and documentation. I financed with Honda at 1.9%, There were no other charges and I did not add options. Later I may purchase the automatic day/night mirror.
The vehicle was just built two weeks ago and I took delivery the day after it arrived at my dealership. The color is Desert Mist, which I like very much.
Hope this helps other Accord shoppers. Reports from others in this forum helped me to negotiate a very good price.

Taking delivery tomorrow on an EX 4 door w/Curtain Airbags, 2.4L Auto., no options or accessories, listing at $22,800. We'll pay $20,944, $200 under the $21,144 invoice including delivery. Will use the 1.9% financing from Honda, good thru 1/5/04.

the car.
It looks like your estimate & $1000 proposal are reasonable.
Hope this helps!
MSRP is $20,100; Invoice is $18,093; I paid $16,810.
For instance: Currently, if your 95 Accord is worth $5500 and a 94 Accord with the same mileage/option/condition is worth $4500 then it appears the car depreciated $1000 in a year so add $1000 to the current value. If the 95 is only worth $250 more then add $250 to the current value.
While your dealer is already offering a fair price, a GREAT deal would be somewhere between dealer retail and private party, inclusive of tax, tag and license.
My target price would therefore be $22k out the door. Dealer will say "it's a new car" but really, you've already lost one year in potential resale value.
22 out the door is rediculous. That would put the selling price around 20,500 (at least for my taxes/fees). I doubt the dealer wants to get rid of the car and loose ~$1500.
As far as the car being a 'year old', that is why Honda gave the dealer $750 - to reduce the price of the car to get rid of it. Using used car pricing to determine the price on a new car purchase is a new one.
Let us know what you end up getting. If they are offering 21988 to everyone it might not last long.
on new leases ?

Today I purchased '04 Accord EX-L w/ protection package ($190 value) (wheel locks, cargo tray, splash guard) for $21,900 ($490 destination charge included) from Castle Honda in Morton Grove.
invoice : $21,867 + $490 = $22,357
retail : $24,300 + $490 = $24,790
I couldn't get 3.9% financing due to low credit score.
I think i'll be getting 5.9%.
Let me know what you guys think about the price.
