This morning I tried to swing a golf club but couldn't because my right ring finger was ripped up. Now I know how. Wait a minute, isn't there a first aid kit in the back seat? I coulda used a band aid.

Hi, is there an alarm system standard on the G35? Anyone know what it is?

    thanks

Took much time experimenting with different tire pressures on my car for the best combination of handling and comfort. Went from 35 to the recommended 30 lbs. I found 30 to be too soft with a considerable loss of crisp handling. 32 lbs was my ideal for the best handling and comfort. Any higher pressures showed loss of comfort with no improvement in handling. I check my cold tire pressure once a week and keep them exactly on 32. Hope this helps! What have others found?

Yes, I also found 32 to be better than the recommended 30. Has anyone tried varying the front to rear pressures? Should be able to improve handling (reduce understeer) by increasing front pressure a bit more than the rears.

I currently drive a Chrysler 300M, but very interested in the G35. I find myself using the manual shift mode alot, especially for braking. When coming up on an exit for example, it is easy to just drop down a gear and let the engine braking slow the car down. I am curious how many of you G35 drivers do the same thing.

    hhomer:

How'd you manage to find one with nav? I'm going to be moving from the Baltimore-Washington area to the south (Alabama) in about 6 weeks, and I've had no luck finding a nav-equipped G35 down there.

mawg... Brakes are for braking. Transmissions are for accelerating. Using your transmission to brake puts a lot of stress and wear & tear on the tranny. Brake pads, even rotors, are cheaper than new transmissions. (Moderate braking effect on snow and ice is one thing, but using tranny to brake routinely and on dry surfaces is unnecessary.)

Yes you get the same interior for 28K as you do for 35K, thats the point, when I spend 35K being 5-7 thousand more in cost, I expect a better interior than the G35 gives. 35K is 35K and when you throw 35 at Saab, Audi, Jag, BMW, I see a more refined interior, more standard options. Better leather, less of a Altima or Maxima looking interior.

The new Saab 9-3 2003 interior is just awesome, all leather, with prices starting at 28K and rising to 42K and some 0-60 times equal with the G. Though it won't hit the showrooms until Sept.

What's your opinion about the Memphis Infiniti dealer? I am in north MS and am thinking about getting a G35 from Infinity of Memphis. I currently have an Acura TL that I bought at Northpark Acura in Jackson, MS, and I have been very unhappy with that dealership. I am hoping for a better experience from Infiniti.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
hey but if the tranny is covered by the warranty then why not? :)

I used to use AutoStick in my 300M all the time including for braking purposes (not something stupid, just a little speed shaving-off). Never had any problems with tranny life.

I used the SportShift in my Acura TL-S occasionally but the tranny broke and had to be replaced. Now I am not using SS at all trying to see if the new tranny will last longer in full auto.

My lease on my A6 is ending in October. I know what I won't be getting again! I just had the pleasure of an extended test drive today of a Premium package, Xenon equipped G35 and all I can say is WOW! We also have a '99 328 and I can honestly say that this car beats the hell out of Audi and BMW hands down. I still in awe. The sales guy took me out to a twisty road, ran on the freeway did city driving in Thousand Oaks Ca and it was unbelievable. I'm only sorry that I can't join the group til October when I turn it in since the resale on Audi's suck! Maybe I can dump the Bimmer first! Enjoy the group and I'm envious of you guys that already have one. If anyone has A6 or BMW questions, just let me know and I'll let you know all the deep, dark secrets!

I live in southern Arizona and am in the market for a G35,Emerald Mist in color, with the premium package, sunroof, winter package(the real problem in locating this vehicle) xenon headlights, and the wood package. I am willing to travel anywhere to locate this vehicle. I do not, however, wish to pay MSRP or move for this vehicle. Anyone with any information, good deals, or pleasent buying experience, please respond....

eangel1: I had a good buying experience at Infiniti of Costa Mesa, in Orange County, So. CA. Darrin Osborne there, the fleet and internet sales manager was straight with me (714-241-1300 ext 383, osbornd@autonation.com). He also steered another member to a good deal at a neighboring dealer when he couldn't find the car he was looking for, but the other dealer had it. One thing, though, you might not find many winter packages in CA.

ajayme: I'd love to hear your impressions from owning the A6 and 328i. In what ways would you say the G35 beats these cars hands down? They are both gorgeous cars and ones I considered strongly before deciding on my G. I do know one guy who had a 2001 A6 2.7T. It was such a lemon that Audi offered to give him a brand new 2002 at no charge, or buy back the 2001 for every penny he paid for it. He took the money and ran to Infiniti for a G. Which A6 do you have?

memphisslim1 - Do you live out around the Davies Plantation area (Wolfchase)? Does the woman you see driving the car have short red hair? If yes to both, then you have seen our car... :)

It WOULD be nice if MMSP did do Autocross/SOLO II as I would like to see how well the car handles at the limit all the time and see how much skill I've lost...

smu1976 - The base 330i has the SAME interior as one costing $5K more... unless you get the sport package at $1400. Since the G35 doesn't offer (IMO) a decent sport package, you won't see any interior upgrades... they are already bundled in at the base package cost to get economies of scale.

My experience with my Audi and BMW are:
1999 1/2 A6 2.8-All options, no major probs. only the fuel sender recall. Dealer service for the most part has been good. Always got a loaner. Great interior and rattle free. Rotten resale.
Would I buy another Audi? Possibly, especially the new A4 Convertible or TT.
1999 BMW 328i-Great driving car, dealer service is rotten. TAke the car in for the same problem 4 times-moon roof inside shield rattles, air conditioner sucks in hot weather. Dealer only supplies loan car for 6 visits. Body,Chassis and engine great, interior design perfect and the car is rock solid. Would I buy another BMW? Highly unlikely due to the dealer network.

It was really tough to find the G35 with Nav. The dealer in PA that I found claimed that they were the only ones in the North East US with one. I'm not sure whether it was a bargaining tool or whether it was true. My guess is that Infiniti will start to make more with Nav because they had no clue that it would be this popular.

I have been keeping my tire pressure at 32 psi also now for over a month. I check it every two weeks. I never used to check my tire pressure at all and paid for it on my last car. I'll get my car back today from service (doing oil change and changing latch on seat belt) and I'll probably have to put my tire pressure back to 32.

ANYONE HERE SOME NEW INFO ON WHEN A 6SP MANUAL MIGHT BE AVAIL IN THE G35 SEDAN - I HAVE HEARD ANYTHING FROM AUGUST 02 TO SEPT 03 - I HAVE ONE W/ AUTO ON ORDER BUT WOULD LOVE TO CONVERT TO 6 SPD IF IT COMES SOON - WHAT ARE YOU HEARING
  • baylorbear99baylorbear99 Member Posts: 29
According to Infiniti, the 6 speed will be available in the sedan after the coupe (and 350Z)debuts. Supposedly, the coupe will be out in November, so the sedan should get a manual tranny sometime late this year, or the first part of 2003.

Is it really worth getting the Nav System? Those that have it how many times do you use it?

Hey jvalenty. How you hold'n out? Any new news on your car?
-------My lease on my A6 is ending in October. I know what I won't be getting again! ------- ajayme
The biggest difference between my 99 Audi A4 and my G35 is that I very much look forward to driving the G35 every day. The love affair with Audi did not last long. I now look forward to stop lights, especially if I'm first in line. With my G35, I'm not expected to show up at the dealership every 5000 miles and be with out my car for the day. Almost every time I took my A4 in to the dealership for a simple oil change, they would screw something up. I'd take it in a few weeks later only to find they had to order the part. One more trip and they'd finally get it right. A few months later something else would go wrong but I'd wait for the next 5000 mile servicing. They'd change the oil but they wouldn't have the part for the existing problem. Go back a few weeks later and they'd fix the problem but break something else. Just before I wanted to sell it the "Check Airbag" light goes on and Audi wants $600 to repair it even though it was just out of warranty. I know all Audi owners don't (didn't) have the same problems I had, but just knowing I'm driving a solid, well built machine, that's so much more fun to drive....well, anyway, this is what owning a new car is all about.

I have NAV on my G35 and love it-I use it all the time. My wife and I like to take drives and it is amazing how many places/short cuts you find using it. I also like the fact that it differentiates my car from many of the other G35's on the road. It adds a touch of class to the interior.

On a side note I was at the dealer last weekend for a car wash and my salesman comes up to me and says "you sure were lucky to get a car with NAV, we have only had two and the ther one just was sold". I got mine about two weeks after the debut of the G35. From what he said they are hard to come by. I highly recommend it to those of you who are debating on wether to get it. It is expensive but the G loaded is still less then any of the competition. Enjoy.

The Navigation system is definitely worth it. That was the main selling point for me. First off it is a DVD navigation which makes the calculations faster, and there is only 1 DVD for the US and Canada! You can't beat that! I use it a lot for directions because I am horrible with maps, but the real kicker are the "Points of Interest" sections. If you are in unfamiliar territory you can search for nearby restaurants or parks or gas stations or ATMs, you name it! If you have the opportunity to get one I would definitely recommend it : )

Actually, I was thinking about whether it was an option I could do with out. However, yesterday, I was taking my brother to the airport (Hobby) and 610 (just past the Astrodome) was a parking lot. So, I decided to try an alternate route to reach 288 and started driving in a direction that I thought would take me to it and ended up making the correct decision. But while I was driving, I was thinking, "a navigation system sure would be nice, right now." However, I'll have to wait until the end of the year because I want a 6 speed coupe.

Sorry for the long post, but it's Friday and I have a very long 85 minutes of work left, before I can go home. TGIF
  • dafreakdafreak Member Posts: 154
Of course NAV is an option you could do without. You could do without the G35 also. You have to get what you feel you want on your car. I for one usually get a car loaded so I have no regrets. If you do get it you will love it. The question is will you be able to find one.

Just wanted to share some info I gathered last night regarding pricing here in Madison WI...

Our local Infiniti dealer has 10 G35s in stock, and all have "$500 off" tags on the mirrors, and the cloth one they have is marked down $1000. Not sure what their bottom line would be if you showed you were a serious buyer, but it does demonstrate they're willing to deal.

Another interesting note: they have a rather sharp-looking 328i with sport pkg and auto trans sitting in front, no plates but also no window sticker. Made me wonder if they borrowed this car from their colleagues at the european store to have on hand for comparison drives...

What are people paying for new G35's???
  • jpnwdcjpnwdc Member Posts: 42
Here in the DC area, one dealer (Jim Coleman) is charging MSRP, and the other (Rosenthal) has $995 add'l. markup on the sticker. I think I'll wait.

    unconfirmed, from another discussion:

Word has it that Road and Track did a sport sedan comparo test with the G35 and several other sport sedans for the upcoming July issue, and the G35 came out on top...even above BMW. If true, that would be a nice laurel for Infiniti.
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
Yeah the G35 loses the the manual 330i with sport package in most of the performance categories (barely losing each time) but with price factored in, wins the car showdown. If Infiniti had come out with a manual and decent tires on the G35 sports package (18s!!!!), then the G woulda walked away with everything. Next time.

try Herring Gear Infiniti in Jackson. Ask for Bud Fortner. He's a nice guy - no high pressure sales.

Well, hello neighbor! I didn't realize that you lived out here as I hadn't seen any G35's driving around, black or not. We ought to get together sometime just to talk and compare notes... :)

Oh, I live down on St. Philip at Vaughn.

I am currently shopping for a G35 with no options in the Dallas area. Does anyone have info on what prices buyers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area are able to get the car? I am willing to drive to Houston to buy one if the prices there are better. Anyone have info on prices in the Houston area?

    Hey faenor,
I am out in Livermore and also drive the 580/680 corridor. I'll have to watch out for another g with wings flying down the road instead of just touching the pavement.

Seriously, I have not seen many G's while on Bay Area highways. Once I did see a very cool Desert Platinum verison with a beautiful woman at the wheel. I thought, there goes a great car, and look at the babe at the wheel .. then I realized I was driving my wifes Windstar (had to go to Home Depot) and it was my car and my wife... isn't life cool sometimes

    Happy Driving

The San Diego Group is trying to find more members for our unofficial members group. I saw a Black G, spoiler, chrome rims, tinted windows, driven by a lady on Sunday around 4 PM near Hwy 78 in Vista. If you would like to contact me and provide your name, I'll put you on our SD owner's list. jvalenty@yahoo.com

Just got a phone call from Infiniti in California as a followup to my e mail to Infiniti on my A/C noise problem. the lady said that they don't have any listed issues but she will make some calls to various places in the company which will also include the G35 engineer. She said she will call me back within 48 hours. I think it is very important that any people that are having troubles write to the contact e mail address which is listed on the Infiniti web site, if people don't voice their concerns maybe nothing will be done, the squeaky wheel gets the grease!

The Town Hall is about to take on a new look in an effort to make content more easily searchable and accessible.

Have you seen the Letter from the Town Hall Manager on the Town Hall Welcome page? If not, you might want to follow that link to have a look.

And hang on to your seats. Change is never easy - for any of us - but resolving the Search problems we've had will be worth the pain.

Don't count on the price of the G35 sedan going down when the coupe is introduced. If anything, considering the tremendous demand for the car, the price may very well be raised.
On the other hand, Acura never raised the price of the TL significantly after its introduction, even though, like the G35, it was a bargain and in great demand.
