FWIW - that site has been roundly debunked all over the Town Hall as offering nothing more than Photoshopped pix born in the webmaster's imagination.

I have no way to know if it is for real or not, but I did want to let you folks know what's being said in many other discussions here.

    YMMV of course.

I'm glad Infiniti will be offering the G35 coupe and the manual during the 2nd production year. It gives me an extra year to "age" my new Impala LS. LOL

The picture of the G35 coupe sure look nice. Hopefully, Infiniti does not put that ridulous Euro antenna on their vehicle. Unlike Lexus IS300, they try to mimmick the Euro sedan (VW) with the silly "aftermarket" antenna. LOL

GM offers 4.0L V8 and 3.5L V6 Northstar-derived (non-pushrod) engines available in the Olds Aurora and Intrigue. So it's not just Toyota that puts their premium engines into brands other than their luxury division.
  • riezriez Member Posts: 2,361
redline65... Ya got me a bit confused. There may be some similarities betwee blocks and lots of shared components, but Cadillac does not share its "top-of-the-line" 4.6L 300 hp Northstar V-8 with Olds. GM only allows Olds to use the less powerful 4.0L version. And there are some differences in between Lexus and Toyota engines. See differences and different power output between current ES300 and Camry 3.0L V-6s.

I don't think anyone considers the GM 3.5L V-6 to be a "premium" engine. It is a good engine. It attempts to keep up with some already great V-6s in same category. For example, Nissan's 3.0L V-6 has long been considered one of the best and now it is 3.5L. I wouldn't call Nissan's engine "premium", either. Nissan is using it in a wide variety of platforms: Altima (240 HP), Maxima/I35/G35 (255 HP), and 350Z (confirmed HP unk).
  • redline65redline65 Member Posts: 693
Very true. The Olds 4.0 only produces around 250 hp, but it has much of the same technology as the Northstar.

As for the 3.5L, it depends on your definition of "premium". I consider it a premium engine because it actually added about $500 to the price of my Intrigue instead of the 3800 Series II engine. I paid a premium to get that engine instead of the pushrod V6. Also, one of the reasons GM is doing away with the 3.5L is that it is too expensive to produce.

Yeah, and guess which division no longer exists...so much for sharing :-S

Only when looking at American cars would one consider a non-pushrod engine "premium". Even the lowly Honda Civic has an aluminum-alloy engine w/ overhead cam and four valves per cylinder. That would be Northstar material for GM ;-)

Someone has to tell GM that FWD and pushrods are not the only way to build cars. They can't even mix the ingredients properly. If Buick and Pontiac would take the 3.8 litre pushrod V-6 with the Eaton supercharger and put it in a tight, RWD chassis, they would have a real fun car. Not much top end, but you could really fly off the line. I know it would really be too much to ask GM for a Manual tranny. I doubt GM has a manual engineer left. So sad for what used to be a great car company. I doubt they could build a G35. And the CTS isn't even close.
  • riezriez Member Posts: 2,361
Not sure GM is old, so much as concentrating on the truck and SUV cash cows. GM just can't seem to figure out how to put the right engines it has into the right car platforms. The great new RWD Cadillac CTS platform cries out for the wonderful new 4.2L I-6 in the SUV platform. And why didn't GM put the 3.5L DOHC V-6 into the RWD & 5-speed manual base Camaro and Firebird (and take the step of making them IRS)? GM seems to have a bad habit of milking platforms rather than smartly eyeing new engine/platform combinations.

Fortunately Nissan has stuck with lots of incremental long-term development of its current V-6: former 3.0L and now 3.5L. That sort of consistency and dedication has paid off with a very nice engine.

Why would they put the stitching right where your hands are gonna go? (Other than to save money in not having to use a larger piece of leather...)

my brouchure says 255 now the G35 link says 260

    hmph,
  • riezriez Member Posts: 2,361
Just checked out the Infiniti.com web site. Isn't that interesting that they have now gone to 260 HP from the 255 HP previously shown on all the recent printed material, and up from the 255 HP stated for same engine in Maxima and I-35. Too bad it clearly says automatic transmission will be standard. BOO! HISS!

I marvel at how bad Infiniti's web site is compared to BMW's. Infiniti really needs to do a redesign and make it more valuable to potential and actual owners.
  • hvan3hvan3 Member Posts: 630
255 HP is the correct number.

The G35 is 10" longer, 1" wider, and 5" taller than the IS300. The G35 is comparable to BMW 5 series in overall dimensions. I don't have the specs for the interior dimensions. I"m assuming it's roomier than the IS300.

Don't the front headlights on the G35 remind you of Honda Prelude?
  • dl7265dl7265 Member Posts: 1,381
That good news cause the IS300 feels smaller than a Golf.

Riez: congrads on the 540 !just what every family needs matching 540 6 speeds ;)
  • riezriez Member Posts: 2,361
dl7265... She is everything I ever dreamed she would be and was affordable as Certified Pre-owned. The CPO 528i manuals are less expensive. You might consider a 540i or 528i manual if G35 doesn't get manual or doesn't live up to its promise (for whatever reason).
  • dl7265dl7265 Member Posts: 1,381
I think i read u also owned a g20.my sister still owns mine and it has been very reliable , but so has my 323i , not sure what im looking for next.

I may keep the 3er if i cant make up my mind, the problem with the CPOS around here is they are priced the same as new. while they offer you below wholesell on your car, ah well.

dl7265... is certainly great and a true selling point. Just need to make their cars more exciting and inviting than their wonderful dealerships.

Well the HP has been there its just been zapped up by the fwd platforms, this should be the cure i hope,

And waiting to see what the G35 has in store at the Detroit and LA autoshows.
  • azstanazstan Member Posts: 74
I went to the Phoenix International Auto Show Monday...but no G35.

Disappointed me, but guess the Phoenix show is not big enough to promote a new model.
  • riezriez Member Posts: 2,361
Midlands International Auto Show started today and runs thru weekend. G35 not present. But then neither is the 2003 Cadillac CTS which goes on sale January 2002. Both might be waiting for bigger, more prestigious shows like Detroit.
  • hvan3hvan3 Member Posts: 630
The LA Auto Show is this weekend. Base on the previews, no mention of G35. I'll bring my digital camera with me in case they demo the G35. It's hard to imagine that the G35 will not be at the LA Auto Show since Nissan headquarter is about 20 minutes away.

As for the CTS, I had a chance to see it two months ago at the International Auto Show in Anaheim, CA. (home of Disneyland). Too many sharp angles. Not particularly my style. I'll look at the CTS again, and perhaps get to sit inside.
  • maxamillion1maxamillion1 Member Posts: 1,467
The G35 is supposed to be at the LA Auto show. Some people are going now because of this. I wish I lived in LA, I want to go so bad. Anyway, check out Freshalloy.com it supposed to be there.

Any indication of the base MSRP? I don't need any options, just a rear drive sedan with 260 hp.
  • maxamillion1maxamillion1 Member Posts: 1,467
As it looks, I might consider the G35 w/

Any idea whether the blue amd green colors are dark or light?

Sounds like I'd be interested in a pretty base car. Maybe leather and a moonroof. Like the titanium trim but don't particularly want sport suspension. Hoping for 31-32k sticker with what I want.

I was talking to the service manager at the Infiniti dealer today about the G35. Here's what he told me (I know some of it is "old news") after checking with the sales mgr.

G35 hits the market in April with a rear wheel drive model

About 9-10 (12?) months later we get an all wheel drive model

    (Here's where it gets good)
    1 year after that ...... a 2 door CONVERTIBLE!

Pricing is upper 20's to low 30's.

I agree with you on all things, except one thing. From my source, the G35 goes on sale March 15. Just for the sake of me seeing it, I hope my source is right.....LOL BTW, the info received came from Infiniti of Lisle.

Also, about colors. From what I know, the Twilight Blue is said to be close to Midnight Blue and Majestic Blue available on the I35 and Maxima. I hope so. I really wish that Nissan would come out with a dark blue for the new Altima. That would be sweet...

Here's a link that Infiniti sent me on the upcoming G35. I like it! Very clean, taut, elegant styling. Sweeping roofline like the Lexus GS and Altima.

Folks! Seems like many of you didn't like the 5 speed auto tranny. It is much better than the 4 speed auto tranny that we used to have. I like it and hope it performs reliably and responsively. I used to love and drive manual tranny for many decades. Hence, I understand the need for a 6 speed manual tranny that you folks wanted. My guess is pretty much the same as the other folks, that it will share the 6 speed manual tranny with the 350Z. Regardless of 5 or 6 speeds, auto or manual, the G35 is a sure winner if the price is at mid 30K for a fully loaded one.
  • dl7265dl7265 Member Posts: 1,381
Isnt Black Obsidian MB color ? And March 15th is much sooner than i figured. Guess ill have to make the 01-31-02 Ft Worth show to see it.Dont think i can wait til the Dallas show.
  • maxamillion1maxamillion1 Member Posts: 1,467
...Hasn't black Obsidian been a color for Infinti since at least 2000, when the new I30 was released? I remember that color them, and it's still used now. I even think the new Q45, G20 and QX4 use that color. It's nice, but Black isn't one of my favorite car colors....

Check out http://www.freshalloy.com they've got pictures of the g35 and z from the LA auto show!!!
  • stebustebu Member Posts: 204
Nice pics. The G35 looks like it might have that rare combination of muscular good looks that are still just sedate enough so as to not offend a more conservative shopper. In that respect, it's sort of like the last gen A4.

But the Z isn't going to fool anyone. It looks (excuse the terminology) fast and furious... awesome.
  • jjy1jjy1 Member Posts: 26
The back of that car is ugly. I was thinking of buying the car until I saw the back. The plates need to be on the trunk instead of way below - where no one can see it. Luxury is all about showing off and a plate is a great way of doing that.

There's a pic of the car floating around with the plates on the trunk lid. That one is sweet! Now if they have that and paint the underside then they will have an absolute winner. Now, where can I go to voice my opinions to Infiniti - I must save the company!!
  • riezriez Member Posts: 2,361
I kind of like it but tend to agree with my wife's instinctive reaction. She says it reminds her of a cross between new Nissan Altima and VW Passat. I think both of them look good. Though neither sets my heart on fire nor does either look distinct or classy enough for the $30-40,000 range competition. Think the G35 looks a little sharper than either of them, though not by too much. IMHO.
  • carsrcoolcarsrcool Member Posts: 26
Thanks for the link pbhatti. I was a little surprised by the small amount of leg room in the back seat. Obviously the front seat was slid back but expected to see more room, given the previous posts here about reported length of 10" longer than IS300, 112" wheelbase, comparable in size to BMW 5 series, etc.

Still plan on visiting the dealer when they come in. The freshalloy.com site indicates that Infiniti dealers are taking orders for the car now. Can anyone verify this?
  • maxamillion1maxamillion1 Member Posts: 1,467
That other picture you described was a photoshopped pic. It is not real. I don't understand what the deal is with the tag being on the rear bumper, personally I like it that way. Wasn't the 4th gen Maxima that way? I do wish that the taillights were clear where the orange is, but that' minor. Overall, I like the car. I just hope that Emerald Mist is like Mystic Emerald on the Altima....
  • hvan3hvan3 Member Posts: 630
It's confirmed. According to Infiniti website, the G35 will have 260 hp and 260lb of torque!!!

Can't wait to attend the LA Auot Show! I'll take pictures inside and out. Will post the pics on Monday when I'm in the office.
  • maxamillion1maxamillion1 Member Posts: 1,467
And find out as much info as you can. Heck, take a notebook and right it down. I have decided that I will attend the NY Autoshow and the Atlanta Autoshow. I hope to go to both of them if all is well.

Also please get pics of the car from the side view. A full side profile would be nice. Get pics of the interior, exterior, engine, trunk everything. Heck even ask about the sport pkg., as them what the rims will look like. I WISH I was in LA so bad...
  • storytellerstoryteller Member Posts: 476
Does anyone understand the nav screen on the G35? The G35 in the photos is equipped with nav, but the shot of the upper dashboard shows a rather narrow slot, not the full TV-type screen shown on the Z. Does a screen come out and then swivel?
  • maxamillion1maxamillion1 Member Posts: 1,467
From what I have seen, the Navi pops out of the dash board. It "elevates" up at the push of a button. It's a GPS DVD Based system. Hope this helps
  • dl7265dl7265 Member Posts: 1,381
First pic of the rear ive seen , is a little weird, but personally slamming a trunk lid with a LP on it , i could care less.

I think the key will be pricing, if the base 350z is gonna be 28ish where will the G35 land at ?

I have to make my mind up this weekend between an ES300 or a G35 (the ES I ordered is at the port as we speak). I know they are two different types of cars but I am very intrigued by the G35. For that reason, I'll be flying to LA in the AM from Sacramento just to spend the day at the LA Auto Show. Too bad the G35 is not ready for test drives. At least looking, and possibly sitting in a G35, will give and idea of which company I'll be writing the check to. Wish me luck.

Have a safe flight and get some good photos ! lucky you live so close to Lake Tahoe.

  • cayennered1cayennered1 Member Posts: 193
I don't want to influence your decision but I think there's an awful lot of the Camry in the looks of the ES300. It has a beautiful interior and I'm sure is rock solid reliable, but the G35 is more stylish, unique, has 260hp and most of all won't be mistaken for a Camry (though to be honest it could be mistaken for an Altima by some).

Let us know what you think after you see it. Fortunately for me I live in the Detroit area so I only need about a 20 minute drive to get to the Detroit Auto Show where I'll see the G35 next weekend.
  • hvan3hvan3 Member Posts: 630
Ok, just came back from the Auto Show. The silver G35 was displayed on a platform. We were allowed to walk on the platform to check out the G35. Unfortunately, we were not able to sit inside, since this is the only vehicle they have for viewing. They wont allow me to open the doors or pop the hood open for me to take pictures. However, I did take a few pics of the vehicle on the exterior. I will post the pics on MOnday when I'm in the office.

The G35 will have 260 hp and 260 lb of torque. I was told that the vehicle is 4 inches longer than the Infiniti I35. I asked the lady if I could take pictures of the specifications from her speech scripts. (They didn't have any handouts in regards to G35 specs.) Hopefully, the pictures I took from her scripts are large enough to read on-line.

Peeking inside, the interior is gorgeous and very spacious. I can't provide much info since they didn't allow us to sit inside.

From the side and front view, I really like it! From the back view, it does look "sedated". I think it would look better if the license plate is located on the trunk lid, rather than on the bumper. Perhaps Infiniti should add a chrome piece on the trunk lid to improve the rear look.

I was told that a fully equipped G35 will max out at $32K. I find that hard to believe. My feeling is that it'll run anywhere from $30 to $36K.

Oh, I had an opportunity to check out the Nissan 350Z. It's awesome looking in person!! The Z has more exciting looks than the G35. In my opinion, the Z looks like a stretched out Porsche Carrera. Convertible Z will be out the following year. If anyone planning on going to any auto show, you MUST check out the new Z!!
