And neither of these cars look like the G35
There are actually two versions of this commercial. The first one is a 30-second clip featuring the G35, Q45, and FX45 (looks quite splendid!). The second one is a 15-second clip featuring only the G35.
The story goes something like this: A car show is taking place. Spectators dressed in circa-1950 costumes examine retro concept cars equipped with record players, toasters, bubble cockpits, pull-down projection screens, among other outlandish gadgets. The announcer asks in the background: remember the dream you had of a car that had everything you wanted; where is that car? Suddenly, something outside the exhibition hall seizes the attention of the crowd, who abandon the exhibits and gather in front of the hall windows to catch a glimpse at something truely special. The new Infinitis glide by one by one in disjointed shots from multiple angles. Depending on the version shown, the announcer either says "introducing the new Infinitis" or "introducing the Infiniti G35". A shimmering Infiniti logo against a black background wraps up the commercial.
The production value is quite high, but the message could be more focused. I don't think, however, that this is the true beginining of the G35 campaign. Upcoming ADs described on www.nissannews.com will give the G35 far more lucid coverage.
Since we live in the great white North, we tend to prefer AWD, 4WD, or even FWD then RWD. Has anyone of you had a chance to take this baby on a snowy road either in Canada or Northern US? Should that be a concern?
Thanks
Oh, wait a minute. I just noticed that it has Front sun visor extensions. I guess I will keep it after all.
The G35 was basically designed in a wind tunnel. This car is about performance. The people who say it looks like a Nissan are the same morons who will tell you that an X-Type looks like a taurus. If they did not know that Infiniti was a Nissan brand they would have no clue.
Drive the altima in all its front wheel drive torque steering, understeering, 240HP glory. Then drive a G35. If you still think the altima is anything like the G35 you do not deserve to own a G35 anyway
Meanwhile, I have removed a number of inappropriately off-topic posts.
Let me know off-line if you don't understand.
Thanks!

By the way, the G35 has been sold in Japan as a Skyline model for almost a year now. So it's not a brand new model at all. Also, please don't just take a look at the G35. Drive it!
Of course they do. That's why it's the Infiniti G35 and not the Nissan G35 ;-)

Maybe its time for them to start negoiting. I know its a great car and will be my next car but paying window sticker for an Infiniti with their resale history is a hard thing to do.
Folks, who cares if some people think G35 looks like the Altima! We all know the G35 doesn't drive anything like the Altima, and that's what really matters! Why should you seek approval from others? Just pursue your own happiness and have fun driving your new G. Peace.
There are many times I would be willing to substitute brands. For ezample when i was looking for a SUV - Explorer, Escape, Highlander, Grand Cherokee, RX-300 were all candidates. Yes they are built on different platforms, and we would have been willing to compromise on the brand based on the total package, of which the the financials are one component. But after I test drove a Bimmer I didn't say: "Honey let's get a RWD vehicle." At that point we both wanted a 3 series ended up with a 330i, there were no substitutions at that point. Did I know about the G35? Yes. Was that a substitute for my 330i? No. Are car manufacturers going to come along and challenge the 3 series? Yes. Did it make a difference to me? No.
If anybody thinks the G35 or Maxima or Honda or (name your car) is better or has better value then the (name your car), then go ahead, purchase it, and have fun with your new toy.
But before anyone assumes that (name your car) has (name your car) beat, let the test of time be the judge.

2. As for any comparison to established cars like 3 Series, TL, A4, etc. it is far, far too early to say anything conclusive about the G35. All any of us have are anectodal inputs from a very small, and probably enthusiast biased, sample. But what conclusions can anyone draw? What will a 2003 G35 be worth in 2006? How much will have cost you to own it for the first 4 years? Do we have any crash test data? Reliability data? Recall or TSB data?
How many people remember the Infiniti M30? Ever sat in an M30 convertible? Will the G35 go the way of the M30? Very doubtful, but always possible. Or the 2nd generation Q45 (really Q41)? The I30?
3. And how many enthusists can't get excited over an automatic-only car? Many of us are waiting for manual transmission. That is me. Others might want a coupe. Maybe only then will the platform be put to really good use and become "exciting"? Especially compared to all the other platforms that have lots of choices in body styles, engines, and transmissions?
As for Altima and G35's headlights, they are completely different rom each other - Altima's are horizontal, G35's are vertically stacked. How could someone be so out of touch to suggest that they look the same?
Thanks again.
And I guess the BMW will feel magically and radically different under these same driving conditions?
1. Do Benz and Chrysler have some similarities? Do they share some parts? Does that 300 and the S series ride similarly at 70 with cruise on a flat highway.
2. If you keep that BMW or Audi one year past warranty, whatever you may gain-and this has been personal experience--you will loose in repair costs.
Before you laugh too hard, look at two pictures of the front side by side. Odd huh? Looks way more like the porsche from the front than it looks like the Altima or the Cadillac (though the caddies grill looks similar).
To each his own.
I had the opportunity on Saturday to have four adults total in the G35 while negotiating some of the steepest hills in San Francisco.
The car still had lots left on the most intense inclines and I truly think that if I had put my foot in it I could have rocketed up the slope at an impressive clip only to fling the car over the crest of the hill in a "Streets of San Francisco" and/or "Dirty Harry" chase scene type fashion.
But on a serious note... no lack of power for hill climbing even fully loaded up, and in addition, my Guests in the back were pleasantly surprised at the ample leg room in the back
They mentioned also that reclining rear seats were a fantastic touch and they hadn't ever seen them before in any other car.
I've always considered that a sports sedan should grant at least a moderate amount of attention to the rear accomodations, and that the inclusion of ridiculously cramped backseats is a waste of design effort and the vehicle should just be made into a two seater, or at least confess up front that the car has two "jump seats" appropriate for infant carriers, or small children...
So the fact that two "real sized" people were actually COMFORTABLE in the back seats is a big thing for me, its a large reason why I opt for sedans over say, a Porsche Boxster... and this is just one more reason why I am extremely pleased with the G35.
Oh, another thing... with the car tooling along with 4 adults, the braking was far smoother

I think it is even more than the front end similarity as well... I was walking down a stairway in a parking garage and the G was parked down near the base of the stairs... I was able to see it for the first time from an oblique elevated angle from behind, to the right and up... I sat their and looked for a moment and noticed that the G with its longer nose and abrubt tail looked like a stretched 911! *Laughing* Try it some time... go to http://www.nissan.co.jp and go to the V35 section and that amazing realtime 3d view... You can rotate the engineering graphic to any angle and even zoom thru the surface to the interior of the car

Maybe the discussion should be that the Altima looks like the G35? Keep in mind that the Skyline has been around longer than the newly introduced Altima.

Rotate the car so you are above, to the right and looking down at it... It's not as apparent in the 3d image as in real life, but its close... It just has that stretch 911 look

Actually, if the car was the "Nissan G35" with the same layout, performance, and even the price I still would have bought it. Though chances are that if it was under the Nissan marque it would have been even less expensive
I bought the car because of it's engineering, performance, to an extent styling, and price...
To be honest, the Infiniti thing to me was just gravy
p.s. Even if it was called the Nissan Gloria I would still have bought it! *laughing* what kind of name is Gloria for a car? Is there going to be a Nissan "Aunt Sadie" next?
Faenor/Dane4
Has anyone done the Personalized plate thing for their G35 yet?
I wanted the plate "HELIOS" which was the name of a white horse I had at one time... And since my G35 is white... well

sosg35 - I have driven the sport and non-sport models in the same day. I found them to be very similar on the freeway (and other "basic" driving), but the sport suspension DID pass along bumps (kicks) in the road a bit more.
When pushed hard, the sport suspension did handle better, less body roll, etc., but I thought the tires were the weak point, keeping the car from showing its potential. The tires on the car I tested were the Goodyear GSD's and I was not all that impressed. I guarantee that I will be buying something else (like the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position tires (in a 225/55-17 size) after the Goodyears wear out...

Take a G35 front end picture.. stretch it 20% on Y axis => Porsche Cayenne!
3 volumes and over 2600 pages! All for the low low price of $275.00!
Well, I've always been a sucker for reference materials and so when it comes time to do suspension work, or aim and replace headlights, service the brakes, etc I'll be ready! Should make interesting reading as well...

It's Millenium Jade. I must say this paint has been an unprecedented mega hit with onlookers. I am constantly receiving admiring comments from friends and total strangers about this color. For those not familiar with it, it's a very classy light greenish pearlized paint that really brings out the mirror like shine in a clearcoat finish AND it's easy to maintain. It hides road dust and grime almost as well as Silver which is really important, if like me, you have to drive on salt and sand covered roads during the winter months. Maybe that's why I've seen very similiar paint on Volvo's and Saab's.
I also notice, with some consternation, that Infiniti includes Millenium Jade as a premium paint option on every other vehicle they make (Q45, I35, and QX4) with the exception of the G35. What a bummer! I also think it's a mistake. IMHO, the G35 would look awesome in this shade. I only hope Infiniti sees fit to offer it on the future G35 Coupe.
1. Motorwerks in Barrington - Bought my used J30t there. Very professional. Bob Satlow, if he's still there...very cool dude! Don't tell him I sent you otherwise he'll think you're trying to go for the rock bottom deal. hehe. They also have BMW, Mercedes, Saab, Caddilac, Porsche and Honda so it's a good place to do comparative shopping.
2-3. Fields Infiniti in Libertyville & Glenview - A friend bought his J30 in Libertyville. Very good service & no pressure! Good people in both locations although the Glenview guys are a little more pompous. Loaner cars when you go for service for the lifetime of the vehicle...nice!
4. Infiniti of Lisle - Mixed review. My bro bought his G20 there w/ excellent service. I was there also and did the deal. However, when I was shopping for a used J30t, the sales manager and Peter Taylor the sales guy put some heavy pressure on me. Touting their great service...yawn! They should have checked to see that I'm 30 miles away from there so service didn't mean a whole lot.
5. Loeber Infiniti - stopped over there when my brother was shopping for his G20. Maybe it's because we were in our early - mid 20's at the time but we didn't get help for about 20 minutes. The salesman didn't try to do a whole lot to sell us a car. Beat the Infiniti of Lisle deal by $50. After the irritating service, we went back to Infiniti of Lisle and bought it there for $300 less then the original quote.
6. Infiniti of Orland Park - haven't been there so no comment.

where has everyone gone...??...i need assurance...lol...
blinker... So far I don't think MB and Chyrsler share many, if any, parts. Maybe some models use same tires? But there is a soon-to-be released Chrysler product coming out in 2004 or 2005 that reportedly will use about 30-40 percent MB parts. Thinking primarily engine and tranny? Has MB fans worried about diluting MB. If I was them, I'd be worried. But, hey, if I'm a Chrysler fan, guessin' it will improve their heretofore lacking breed?
Second item. What are your feelings about a car configured w/ bose/xenons/sunroof without getting the premium package. Is the package worth the extra cash?
I have the package you described and like it alot. I would have gotten the premium but they didn't have one on hand in my color trim preference. I am single so am the only one who drives the G. The main item on the premium that I would have wanted was the memory seats and I honestly am not missing them.
What a great ride! On back roads and highways, it was as tight and strong as anything I've driven in a while. And while I'd prefer a 6 sp manual, an auto is the only car I'd consider these days for overall driving. this auto 5 was precise, downshifted and the manual selector was a blast.
Only complaint - heard a ton of wind noise on the highway over 70 mph. is this a common theme among this group? (have only read the past 20 posts, just found this topic.)
not sure if this is a 330 beater, but it certainly is a 530 beater in terms of size, interior and performance. to me, the 530 seems to be the nearest car in terms of specs. for less than a 330, an a4 or is300, this could be a tough choice not to make.
