to see my new truck and we were standing outside
the office looking at both SD's and another friend
that owns a roofing company pulled in whith his new SD psd
and while the three of us was standing in the parking lot two more SD's pulled in (complete strangers) and the five of us stood in the parking
lot shooting the breeze with five SD's blocking
most of the parking lot. Looked like a convention
but met two new friends.....
MJE..... Glad to hear its 3 weeks and counting. Good luck... you will be happy.
Dennis4.... Ordered the Tan w/lower accent
Cowpokes.... Glad for you... took you about
four months too... probably the norm.
Mroffshore.... I will run back through your post and get your work E-Mail address and drop you
a line. My server is running so slow tonight. Got
knocked off and took me 20 minutes to get back to
this screen. Something is real busy and I don't
think it is "Slick Willy's" speech. P.S Sorry
about the Vikes... Momma took away my plastic after buying about $250.00 National Championship
shirts..... Got all Orange shirts since our high
school colors are orange and my daughter (junior)
starts on the basketball team, so they will have
dual use.
Love my Super Duty........
I've adjusted to the mirrors and would like to move but they are OK.
One observation, when loaded with our 24 foot pull type trailer the truck squats 1.75 inches more than my 91 (CC, DRW, 7.3, Auto). Seems that the spring rate is less.
One comment, my soon to be 16 yr old daughter prefers to learn-on and drive these beasts over our Countour SVT and 65 Mustang Fastback, time to finish the restoration of my 30 Model A Pickup.
Amazon green is not available in the super duty, but the wedgewood blue clearcoat metallic is. The only greens for super dutys are the woodland green and the dark hunter green.
Rich, that was a great explanation of diesel maintenance. Thanks.
Now for more waiting .......
jack32: The F350 and F250 Heavy Duty are completely redesigned for '99. They're stronger, quieter, more comfortable -- and more expensive than a used one. If you haven't taken a test drive, I would heartily recommend it.
We have a ten mile stretch of road in my area that is marked off to check your odometer. On the ten mile stretch, mine is 1.6 miles off.(mine reads 8.4 miles when I really go 10 miles) So when I check my mileage, I add this extra 1.6 miles to every ten miles that my odometer shows. My mileage is a little under 11 MPG every time I have checked it so far. (only 2000 miles) I think the reason that my MPG didn't go down is because 1) my truck is now broken in, and 2)the taller tires are like an overdrive for the low 4.30 axle ratio. That offsets the wind resistance factor, etc a little. The **get up and go** has suffered a little off the line, but not much. I ordered the 4.30 axle ratio because I was planning on getting taller tires. Otherwise, I would have ordered the 3.73 ratio. If you figure it out, my overall drive ratio is now almost exactly like having the 3.73 ratio with the stock tires.

If I did an aux gas tank, I'd get one of the combo 5th-wheel boxes / gas tanks. They run ~$750 around here, and come with a 6-8" deep storage bin over a 50 gallon gas tank.
mounted where Stanford suggested you put your CB, as it looks like a perfect spot to mount
one. If you look at it is molded and gives the impression Ford designed for aftermarket options
to fit there. But when I suggested this to the installer he said that thats where they mounted a
brake controller on another super duty and when they went to pre drill there holes for the
mounting bracket they caused major damage to some electrical components which were
located right there.
I don't know if they were full of B.S. I just thought I should add my .02.
Fred.
Where did you end up putting your brake controller?
In my opinion Ford should offer these controllers as an option for there trailer towing package I think it would only make sense. It's the only thing that they missed that I had to purchase aftermarket.
Good luck with you installation KEH4x4 I'm off to Calgary Alberta with a wonderful 150 mile trip
of black ice, snow and -20C temperature down to
-28C tonight. Not a problem with my F350 CC PSD
after 4 months I still can't complain this truck was sure worth the wait.
Fred.
I agree with you on the option should be offered but thats not the only thing they missed. They should have offered heated mirrors. Man I'm still angry about that! All winter long I wish I had them!
Mroffshore
If it were me I like the every other oil change free! HAHAHAHA Hey, over the long haul thats a few hundred $!

For Stanford (thanks for all your advice...)or anyone else who knows...I think you said once that if you had it to do over...you'd go with the 3.73 vs. the 4.30...still feel that way?
And am I reading the brochure right when it says that a 3.73 limited slip rear diff is only available with the 7.3L Diesel(!?)
Maybe the Ford dealers here in Phoenix will more readily deal than our local Chevy dealers who were not giving anything away on the 2500 Silverados...
...stay tuned...
Pioneer, Earnhardt,Lou Grubb, and Bell, wouldn't even give me a price. I even provided them with a typed list of options with factory option code numbers. If they didn't have it on the lot, they didn't want my business. But I ordered in August and picked it up in November. There are a lot more on the lots these days. You may have better luck. By the way, are you involved with fast eddie engines?
No, I have no association with Fast Eddie Engines...my moniker resulted from a nickname a couple of girlfriends now past...(they didn't like trucks...)
Thanks for the shopping tips...agree about 5 Star Ford...heard the same about Earnhardt's -too slick for me- and too many unhappy guys I know who complain about poor after sale service from all their dealerships; all they want is your upfront dollar...my buddy next door just got a good deal from Bell last week with a regular 250 they had on their lot so I thought I would stop by there today first... I liked the idea that guy (in Minneapolis(?))a few posts back had about just faxing your selection with listed options to all the fleet managers in town and seeing what you get back... I may try that later this week after my weekend travels...
So...how do you like your truck so far? Engine? 4WD? Milage? Tow anything?
Pull-Rite hitch(to accomodate short-bed), and eventual power-retractable mirrors avail. through camping-world in March-99. Why Ford doesn't offer them, I can't answer.Looking fwd. to pulling new 5th whl...Terry 27ft'r..nice way to spend wnkends!! Take Care & good luck to all!!
Thanks for the input!! It helped!! By the way, it's hard to comprehend the waiting times some of you had to deal with!! The actual trk is built in one day---can't quite understand!!
P.S. has anyone seen Old Man Winter here on the east coast...it's nearly 60 today!! JB
1) I have the standard size power mirrors. The passenger side mirror has the standard type glass(not convex type) So you don't get a very wide view. My old 97 F150 had the convex passenger side mirror that was much safer. Anyone know where I can buy a stick on convex type that is the exact size as the stock one?
2)I would like to see a couple of MPGs better.
3) For a gas hog, a 29 gallon gas tank is too small. Looking underneith, It looks like they could have made it 5-10 gallons bigger by going closer to the transfer case, yet still leave enough room to remove the transfer case.
4) The sun visors in my 97 were great. My 99 visors stink. The sun peeks between the inside mirror and the sun visor every morning on the way to work.
5)The handle to fold forward the rear seat is hard to get to. Also, it would be nice if it would fold flat like a Super cab rear seat does.
6) I wish the rear doors had pockets on them like the front doors have, and my 97 F150 Super Cab had.
7) The back doors on the Crew cab don't open wide enough. With my 97 Super cab, I could fit my large dog crate easily through the third door to haul my dogs. My 99 has a lot more room in the back seat, but I have to scrape the hell out of the arm rest/door panel fighting the dog crate into the back seat area. Once inside there is tons of room. But the opening is too small. Ford should make those doors open a few inches/degrees wider.
8) My 97 had a light that turns on automatically in the ash tray. The Super D doesn't. I don't smoke, but I keep the mail box key in there. So I miss the light.
9) My 97 XLT had a red light shining to the rear and a white light shining down when you open the door. My 99XLT doesn't. I lost a safety feature.
I know all these things are little sissy items. But, they BOTH have XLT trim levels, the 99 is two years newer, and cost 30 grand (8 grand more than the 97). You would think that Ford would have features equal or better than the features of a 97 with the same trim level.
Anyway...the only towing I do is a 17' fiberglass bass boat (2500#), and towing a 74 Bronco. It is mostly a people hauler.
Doe's anyone know what "priority 20" means?
It is stated on my order receipt.
Thanks,
moe7
Personally, this late into the year, unless I needed it really bad, I would either buy one off the lot or wait and order a 2000. Figure if it takes three months to get here, (could be shorter or a couple months longer)you wont get it until late April or early May (or maybe July). Everyones 2000s will start coming out in August or September. Your vehicle will lose a lot of value as soon as the 2000s come out. But if you are going to keep it for ten years or more anyway, it wont really matter much.
Thanks,
moe7

Am I excepting too much for 17-20 MPG hightway or have I got a lemond in a PS. I know after break in with a few mile it should get better, but I don't think It would 4 to 5 MPG better. All of you guys with the PS what was you mileage when you first got the truck.
Frankly, if this is the best I can do with a PS, the extra maintenance and trouble is not worth it and I will trade for a gas truck in a few months. I was hoping it would perform better that this.
Would adding dual exhaust help or is there anything else I could do.
chesak: That's correct. If they have no SDs on order and can only order 1 per week, that's better than a dealer that can get 20 a week -- with 100 on order.
I'd ask them to guarantee that if they put your order into the system and there are no 'holds' on any of the options you're requesting that it will be ordered that week. Like I said, you may pay a little more, but probably not much.
from Ford with in a couple days after you order it from them. Be sure to go over it with them when they get it. To make sure it was ordered like you want it and it will also have the priority on it. Request them to order it at priority 10 and keep it there. My first dealer (ordered 8-10-98) moved mine from 10 to 40 after a week. As of last week when I picked it up from the (3rd) and last dealer I ordered one from the first 2 dealers still did not have a schedule date to even build it and I have the 3rd one now. Yes I called the other 2 dealers and cancelled the orders. They clame the luck of the draw is why a dealer could order the same truck 7 weeks after the original order was placed and get it before their's was even scheduled. All 3 dealers gave me invoice. None required a down payment. They all said that if I decided not to take it they could sell it with no problem and get sticker not invoice for one in stock.
For what it's worth, I told the last dealer that I already had 2 other dealers order the same truck and they were ok with that. They only ask me to take theirs if it came in first. And it did. I think it made them try harder than the other 2 tried.
Good Luck Casper47
If they are charging you more than invoice they will not print those prices out. Get the price you are paying in writing and signed (purchase agreement) in addition to the actual order.
stanford - I got my first response back from a dealer as far as lead-time. They said they're allocated for 2 per week and they have 9 - F250 SD's on order, and 9 - F350 SD's on order. They said it would take 3-4 months for delivery. Based on how many they already have on order, doesn't it seem like the wait would actually take longer than that, though?
