I just reached agreement over the phone for a 2002 pewter elantra gt with auto, mud flaps, package 10, & mats.
Total net price is $13,250. This includes around $700 of NC taxes and stuff (NC TAX: $435.15 LICENSE: $61 TITLE FEE: $199).
So the net price to the dealer is around $12,550.
Also, they are giving me a 60 month loan at 4.99%.
A couple of days ago they had a couple of red ones with the same equipment if any one is intersted. The dealer is Southern States Hyundai of Raleigh on Wake Forest Rd.
Thanks for the great forum!

Overall, if you're looking for a Hyundai in Massachusetts, or even the New England area, start at CLAY HYUNDAI/CHEVY in Newton.
I did not pay $399 carsdirect fee. hyundai had a 1250 rebate until nov 31,2002

Automatic
Option package AE5,

Originally did not want the wind deflector, floor mats or fake wood trim as well as dealer installed pinstipping and wheel & door guards, but dealer threw them all in for the same price. Final price out the door with tax, title and paperwork was $13918.50.
The Elantra is in addition to the '00 I30 and '00 Honda Accord Ex V6. I bought the Elantra for my daughter, we were putting too much money into her old car, a 1990 Honda Civic with 170,000 miles.
What is the maximum price I should pay before state taxes, and any rebates that may be available?
One dealer quoted $ 16,270 but I declined. Felt it was too high.
Sticker price: $15,941
Purchased price: $14,941 + state taxes & license
( The $821.76 taxes took me by surprise to
say the least )
On my test drive day, 1 week prior to my purchase, I did find myself at the dealers desk negotiating a price for the beautiful auto I now have. I offered him $15,000 and he said he didn't think I would get it at that price. He thought that I should try offering a couple hundred dollars more for it. I told him that I had to think about and I went back to the dealer the following week. I offered him $15,000 again and he went back to speak with the sales manager. I was expecting him to say the same thing he had the previous week. When he came back he told me he would sell it to me for $14,941 which was $1000 less than the sticker price and $60 LESS than I had offered. I was quite confused, this being my first car purchase on my own. I didn't get any high-pressure sales pitches and I didn't get anyone trying to sell me undercoat and fabric protection. I am thrilled about my purchase and about the transaction I had.
what dealership did you go with.
It was worth it because the car was the last one of two '02s in CA and I got the $1250 rebate. The other pewter 5/5 GT was actually local, but the dealer couldn't match the price - even after the shipping charge. CarsDirect.com charges only invoice on options (~$400 instead of ~$750 from dealer.)
My advice is to take the CarsDirect.com price to your local dealer and ask them to match it. Chances are, they will. On the other hand, if you can't find the car you want at a local dealer, CarsDirect.com can save you quite a bit of time and money.
BTW, the car, including spoiler and wood-look interior trim (and tax, title and license) totaled just under $14,000. I'm happy.
Carsdirect was great because I didn't have to deal with any pushy salesmen. I just picked the car I wanted, they found it for me and I picked it up. I even financed through them and it was easy as well. I got a great rate 5.5%
At least it may help your insurance rate.
Another staff that makes me laugh is 1200$ pinstriping that I saw on some of the cars, while shopping for one. I wonder if somebody ever payed such an amount for that?
First time posting here - great board!
I'm in the market for a '03 Elantra GT 5 door. I got the following quote over the internet from the dealer and was wondering if it looks like a good price or not (I've never bought a new car before!) I live in Southern Cali.
2003 Elantra GT Hatchback
> Carbon Blue
> Automatic Transmission
> Power Moonroof
> Sunroof Wind Delfector
> MSRP: $16,256
> Invoice: $15,336
> Selling Price: $13,520 net + fees after rebate
Any opinions? Also, other than the destination fee, what other fees am I in store for?
Thanks!
Best price I could get in EXPENSIVE Washington state is $ 14,800. (GT, Sunroof, traction control/abs brakes, automatic trans) This is after the rebate of $ 1,000. Original price was $ 15,800 which they considered a great deal since I had no trade, and cash payment. Sales tax of 8% on the original $ 15,800 is an other $ 1,264, plus inventory tax of $ 90. License fee is an other $ 70.
Still looking for a better deal. Any one have any suggestions for finding a better deal. I have tried a local dealership and carsdirect.com through dealerships in Seattle.
I've currently got carsdirect looking for a car with the same setup - we'll see what they can dig up for me!
Dutch, I am a Bellinghampster also. Are you dealing with the local guys? Have you tried elsewhere or just made them any kind of offer for less than invoice? I expect to cut some kind of deal this month. Am prepared to pay invoice + 3%, but would love to do better. Lets stay in touch!
How much can I expect in "other" costs? I know taxes, destination - but then what - what is an advertising cost and how much is this usually? anything else I should know?
The Elantra w/roof, cd, keyless: msrp $15494
: sale price $13008
wo/roof :msrp $14844 : sale price $12467
The Sonata (automatic, base model) : msrp $16693
sale price $15541
note: there is no rebate on Sonata and there are no 2002 models of
either.
I got a 2003 GT 5-speet w/ sunroof and ABS, Carbon Blue, with some minor finishings-- $16,041 msrp, $15130 invoice, $13880 CarsDirect (incl. dest.)
I was able to bargain down to 13,200 after rebate. I paid 6% tax (before rebate) and $227 in reg. and fees (larger than it should be but resonable considering my price.) I did the VIN etch myself. I paid $50 more than my best offer from another dealer, but it was worth it for the quality of the dealership.
So far I love my car, and i'd strongly recommend towne hyundai in denville, NJ. Don't bother with Rt. 22.
Joe
Their 1st offer was $7,500 + tax, license... I said, not deal at that price. This was my 3rd time into the dealer and the 2nd day-long test drive. The sales manager came in & was irrate that I had put over 300 miles on their cars & still wasn't ready to purchase! He said make your best offer now or forget it! I countered with $5,300 + T & L. Ended up at $5,425 with mudflaps (+T & L) + my Honda.
1 minor surprise was that in Washington State, one pays sales tax on the rebate!!! But since I was prepared to spend up to $7K, I still have plenty of money left over for a strut bar, better bigger tires (205/60 HR15 Dunlop Sport A2s on OE rims), & window tint.
See Hyundai GT board if you want more details on my car decision process.
That included using the $1,000 rebate back to the dealer.
Great deal from our perspective.
The Elantra was the best car of the group, and after a bunch of heated haggling with a clueless Hyundai dealer I walked out with a Black GLS with keyless entry, cruise control, anti theft alarm, and some pinstriping nonsense for $13600 on the road (including everything) and financed it at 0% for 60 months.
The price is decent but I am proud of the 0% financing I finally got. It took two visits to the dealer and a serious walkout (the guy I was talking to ran out as I was about to pull off and buy the Civic and told me he could do 0%). I forfeited a $1000 manufacturers rebate for the financing, but I put $1000 down and it kept the monthly payments down to where I wanted them (a little over $200 a month).
All in all, the Elantra is the most powerful, best looking and overall best value of all the comparable sized cars I looked at, and I am very happy with it.
I paid $14,103 after rebate plus tax. tags, title in Maryland for an out-the-door price of $14,930.
I think it was a fair price, as it was under the Edmunds TMV, but I know they made some money off me. The dealership was very nice, though the salespeople seemed a little green, they were very low-key; no pressure. I bought it from Len Stoler Hyundai in Owings Mills, MD (north of Baltimore) and recommend them. When I have my first service, I'll tell you about my experience with them.
After visiting 5 Hyundai dealerships in NJ,
Sansone (Manager called my offer stupid)
Bob Ciasulli (so much volume, they did not have a car I wanted--Great salesman though),
DiFeo (added 2995 appearance package to a 12000 car--they have got to be kidding),
Global (Add car gone, would sell up $1200 though for car with same sticker price), and
Maxon (the winner), here is the net/net...
First let me say this. Like most major auto markets, many dealers advertise deals that seem to good to be true. All of the above dealers play these advertising games in full page Saturday and Sunday ads, but only Maxon "put-up-or-shut-up".
None of the dealers had thier "ad car", but Maxon was the only one who said, "If you're ready to make deal, pick any car with the same sticker price, and it's yours for the ad price.
I figured, sure, he'll only have a diarreah green one for that sticker price. What a great surprise to find 9 of them left in various colors. Out came the credit card and vroom-vroom.
MSRP 14432
Paid 11241
Tax, Gap Insurance, Dealer Fees (which I negotiated down) = 1420
LESS Rebate -$1000
Net/Net Out the door....$11661
No Kidding.
Not only that, I got them to beat my Credit Union 4.9%/60 to 4.19%/60.
To the guy above who got 0%/60, please let me know who financed you and what state you're in. Picking up car on 30JAN so I would like to do better on my rate.
Happy buying.
