I live in Maryland and want to know where you purchased your GLS for $11,500. Thanks.
  • stern5stern5 Member Posts: 5
I paid $11,200 at Antwerpen at the Columbia Autopark Auto GLS option 3. Ask for Bryan or Clark. I bought at the very end of the month. The other dealership I worked with was College Park Hyundai, but I'd recommend Antwerpen.

can anyone quote prices for GT in Raleigh, NC area?

looking for 2002 with manual, abs

    thanks

I'm in the middle of buying a GT with option 10, manual. I'm using www.carsdirect.com and everything has been great so far. Check their website to see what the price is in your area, but for me it was well below 15,000.
  • kentavoskentavos Member Posts: 34
I used www.carsdirect.com and paid 12,500 for the car itself. That's a new 2002 with Sunroof (option 10). What a bargain! :) It was great. I got the price the website listed and there was no pressure or hassle at all from the dealer. Even financing was easy. I completely recommend this to anyone.

If you subtract out the NC taxes, title, and license it comes to around $13,250. Does this look like a good offer?

    Gang,

I just reached agreement over the phone for a 2002 pewter elantra gt with auto, mud flaps, package 10, & mats.

Total net price is $13,250. This includes around $700 of NC taxes and stuff (NC TAX: $435.15 LICENSE: $61 TITLE FEE: $199).

So the net price to the dealer is around $12,550.

Also, they are giving me a 60 month loan at 4.99%.

A couple of days ago they had a couple of red ones with the same equipment if any one is intersted. The dealer is Southern States Hyundai of Raleigh on Wake Forest Rd.

    Thanks for the great forum!

I live on the west coast of Washington State. The best price I could get for a 2002 Elantra GT with moonroof, auto trans, and ABS brakes was $ 14,900 after the $ 1250 rebate. Yet I can find deals on the internet for the same car for $ 12,988 (Northwest Valley near Chicago ph 847-888-8222 Ask for Mario Lopez the Internet Salesperson) The car is shipped from our Area all the way to Chicago or places like North Carolina and the deals are much better. What gives???? Frustrated in Wet Washington State

After some TERRIBLE treatment from WILMINGTON HYUNDAI in Wilmington, MA, in which they strung me along for a WEEK looking for a car that didn't exist within a 300 mile radius (2002 loaded auto in silver), and then giving me a hard time about getting my deposit back, I ended up at CLAY HYUNDAI in NEWTON, MA. It was awesome. I got a 2003 auto loaded in blue for invoice $15,800. More than the 2002? yes, but I went for the newer model, will depreciate a little quicker.

Overall, if you're looking for a Hyundai in Massachusetts, or even the New England area, start at CLAY HYUNDAI/CHEVY in Newton.

I did not pay $399 carsdirect fee. hyundai had a 1250 rebate until nov 31,2002

I got it for $11,400 after the rebate, before taxes and fees from CarsDirect.com. The dealership in my town had only 2003 models and I couldn't get much discount, but CarsDirect found me a 2002 model with a $1,250 rebate. Considering the rebate, I guess I could have gotten it a little cheaper by negotiating the price a little harder, but it was a better deal than what the local dealership gave me, which was $12,300 for a 2003 model after the $500 rebate, before taxes and fees. CarsDirect first gave me 8.3% for the loan from Chase Manhattan, but after I told them that I had been approved for 4.99% from PeopleFirst.com, they negotiated with the bank and gave me 5.29% and matched up the difference by reducing the price of the car. (The guy told me that their dealerships do not like to have business with PeopleFirst. I wonder if it's true...) The car was delivered to me from NC on a flatbed truck to my door three days after I finalized the deal. The whole process took only six days. I also sold my previous car (1990 Chevy Lumina) on my own which was $600 more than the local dealer was willing to give me. So overall, I'm satisfied with my shopping experience, considering this was virtually my first new car shopping as an adult. (I've bought a brand-new Toyota Carolla when I was an innocent undergrad, but I knew nothing about the 'real' society then and even tried to buy it using a credit card!, which of course didn't work.)

    California Emissions

    $12,842.00

    I just bought a new '03 Elantra,
    Automatic
    Option package AE5,
    Mud guards
    Floor Mats
    Wind Deflector
    Fake wood trim
    Cargo netting
    Pinstripping
    Door guards
    Wheel guards

    for $12,800.

Originally did not want the wind deflector, floor mats or fake wood trim as well as dealer installed pinstipping and wheel & door guards, but dealer threw them all in for the same price. Final price out the door with tax, title and paperwork was $13918.50.

That is a great deal! Is the Elantra in place of or in addition to the I30?
  • kstern0330kstern0330 Member Posts: 4
    Backy,

The Elantra is in addition to the '00 I30 and '00 Honda Accord Ex V6. I bought the Elantra for my daughter, we were putting too much money into her old car, a 1990 Honda Civic with 170,000 miles.

Carsdirect quoted me $13,592 for a 2003 Elantra manual with California emissions. Can I do better on my own in Bay Area, CA? Any recommended dealers here?
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Any options packages on that '03 Elantra? Is it a GLS? If so, the quoted price is actually above MSRP. Based on past postings, you should be able to get a '03 GLS for well under MSRP in the Bay Area. In my area, Hyundai dealers frequently run ads with prices well below MSRP for '03 GLSes. Have you noticed any dealer ads in the Bay Area papers for Elantras? What does the Edmunds.com TMV calculator say for your zip code?
  • onegvu001onegvu001 Member Posts: 4
I just went back to Carsdirect and was quoted $10,829 after $1k rebate for 03 Elantra with only Cal emissions.

Live on west coast. Looking for 2003 GT hatchback, auto trans, moonroof, and abs brakes.
What is the maximum price I should pay before state taxes, and any rebates that may be available?

One dealer quoted $ 16,270 but I declined. Felt it was too high.
  • manabramanabra Member Posts: 1
I purchased my 2003 Elantra GT 4 Door with a manual transmission on October 30th. I got the only one the dealer had at the time. It came with a power moonroof, ABS with traction, mud guards and a wind deflector.
    Sticker price: $15,941
Purchased price: $14,941 + state taxes & license
( The $821.76 taxes took me by surprise to
    say the least )
On my test drive day, 1 week prior to my purchase, I did find myself at the dealers desk negotiating a price for the beautiful auto I now have. I offered him $15,000 and he said he didn't think I would get it at that price. He thought that I should try offering a couple hundred dollars more for it. I told him that I had to think about and I went back to the dealer the following week. I offered him $15,000 again and he went back to speak with the sales manager. I was expecting him to say the same thing he had the previous week. When he came back he told me he would sell it to me for $14,941 which was $1000 less than the sticker price and $60 LESS than I had offered. I was quite confused, this being my first car purchase on my own. I didn't get any high-pressure sales pitches and I didn't get anyone trying to sell me undercoat and fabric protection. I am thrilled about my purchase and about the transaction I had.

I purchased my 2002 GT. in June through Carsdirect. When I picked up the car I asked the salesman what it would of cost if I went direct and he said I would have saved $400.It was worth it to me. It was cheaper than I could find it around here. I had to go 70 miles, everything went smoothly. It's a great car, I love it.

Hi guys It's Monday 12/02/02 I just picked up my new Hyundai Elantra GLS the salesman Jospeh Wright at Hyundai of New Rochelle made the buying process smooth and easy. We were both up front with each other in what I wanted in a vehicle and the best price he was able to sell it for. I rate them A+.

Hello All- I purchased my pewter 5-dr 5-sp GT through CarsDirect.com. Ended up paying a few hundred dollars more that if I had been able to get a fleet/internet price directly from the dealer. I also paid a fee to have it shipped to me via flatbed.

It was worth it because the car was the last one of two '02s in CA and I got the $1250 rebate. The other pewter 5/5 GT was actually local, but the dealer couldn't match the price - even after the shipping charge. CarsDirect.com charges only invoice on options (~$400 instead of ~$750 from dealer.)

My advice is to take the CarsDirect.com price to your local dealer and ask them to match it. Chances are, they will. On the other hand, if you can't find the car you want at a local dealer, CarsDirect.com can save you quite a bit of time and money.

BTW, the car, including spoiler and wood-look interior trim (and tax, title and license) totaled just under $14,000. I'm happy.
  • kentavoskentavos Member Posts: 34
I used carsdirect.com and was happy with it. There is no fee. What you see on the website is what you'll end up paying. Or at least it was for me. It was also the best deal that I could find. I might have been able to argue down a dealer a couple hundred of dollars, but it would have been a long fight and not worth it.

Carsdirect was great because I didn't have to deal with any pushy salesmen. I just picked the car I wanted, they found it for me and I picked it up. I even financed through them and it was easy as well. I got a great rate 5.5%

I bought the car at Globe Auto Mall in North Plainfield, NJ. BTW did my own Vin Etching for $20, dealer wanted $185, and still got the 15% discount from my insurance company.
  • mrvanmrvan Member Posts: 17
    What is Vin Etching?
  • lovetosavegaslovetosavegas Member Posts: 73
This is when they permanently engrave (etch) a vin # on every window. It is really 20$ job, but some dealers want to charge 200-300$ for it.
At least it may help your insurance rate.
Another staff that makes me laugh is 1200$ pinstriping that I saw on some of the cars, while shopping for one. I wonder if somebody ever payed such an amount for that?
  • wandam1wandam1 Member Posts: 13
post 290-293 My Elantra already came with vin etching on the door windows. The leather seats were put in the car looks great. I'm planning on putting the led blue light for the license plate and the wind shield washer has any one done this any ideas.

    Hey all,

First time posting here - great board!

I'm in the market for a '03 Elantra GT 5 door. I got the following quote over the internet from the dealer and was wondering if it looks like a good price or not (I've never bought a new car before!) I live in Southern Cali.

    2003 Elantra GT Hatchback

         > Carbon Blue

         > Automatic Transmission

         > Power Moonroof

         > Sunroof Wind Delfector

         > MSRP: $16,256

         > Invoice: $15,336

         > Selling Price: $13,520 net + fees after rebate

Any opinions? Also, other than the destination fee, what other fees am I in store for?

    Thanks!

  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
You need to get a clear statement of what the "fees" are. They could try to hit you for an "advertising" fee (often charged by Hyundai dealers and others) among others. Also, the invoice price the dealer is quoting you is different than the invoice price calculated by Edmunds.com--theirs is $14,920. The MSRPs match. You might ask the dealer why their invoice price is different than what Edmunds calculates, e.g. maybe they've added some other costs such as advertising charges. It still seems like a good deal to me, if the "fees" are reasonable.
  • dutch4505dutch4505 Member Posts: 15
Deal sounds good to me. Does it include traction control and abs brakes? How much are your fees??

Best price I could get in EXPENSIVE Washington state is $ 14,800. (GT, Sunroof, traction control/abs brakes, automatic trans) This is after the rebate of $ 1,000. Original price was $ 15,800 which they considered a great deal since I had no trade, and cash payment. Sales tax of 8% on the original $ 15,800 is an other $ 1,264, plus inventory tax of $ 90. License fee is an other $ 70.

Still looking for a better deal. Any one have any suggestions for finding a better deal. I have tried a local dealership and carsdirect.com through dealerships in Seattle.
  • mootippermootipper Member Posts: 2
No ABS and traction control. And as far as the fees - I have no idea yet. Obviously I'll have to pay the $495 destination fee but I'm not sure after that. And backy, yes, good point, he did list his invoice higher than Edmunds, hmmmmm... Who knows, when I walk onto the lot they may tell me that the guy who quoted me passed away last night and his deals are no longer valid. But I'm more than welcome to deal with his replacement Sharky McShark.

I've currently got carsdirect looking for a car with the same setup - we'll see what they can dig up for me!
  • 204meca204meca Member Posts: 369
Mootipper. Your deal looks pretty good, approx $2000 under invoice (I assume that includes the $1000 rebate). I assuming their fees are only shipping and taxes & license. If so, I hope to do as good before the end of the month.

Dutch, I am a Bellinghampster also. Are you dealing with the local guys? Have you tried elsewhere or just made them any kind of offer for less than invoice? I expect to cut some kind of deal this month. Am prepared to pay invoice + 3%, but would love to do better. Lets stay in touch!

I've read, in the last few posts, a rebate of $1000 on the Elantras. Is this for all locations or just certain states? I am looking at them now and my local dealer is selling all Hyundais at invoice or below. I was just wondering if this is available in Pennsylvania. If anyone knows please help. Thanks iin advance.
  • 204meca204meca Member Posts: 369
The Hyundai site (www.hyndaiusa.com) shows $1000 rebate available on all Elantras thru Jan 2, 2003.

Hi I'm in the market for an 03' Elantra or Honda Civic - not sure which yet - but I must admit the Elantra looks good, especially with the warranty and 1,000 cash back...anywho - hoping for guidance on pricing! I just did a carsdirect and rec'vd the following from a local dealer in my area (I'm located in Santa Clarita, California) - Tell me what you think....By the way I requested a quote for an automatic, 4dr GLS with all the bells and whistles (except for ABS or Leather) - these quotes include the 1,000 cash back

How much can I expect in "other" costs? I know taxes, destination - but then what - what is an advertising cost and how much is this usually? anything else I should know?

The Elantra w/roof, cd, keyless: msrp $15494
    : sale price $13008
    wo/roof :msrp $14844 : sale price $12467

The Sonata (automatic, base model) : msrp $16693
    sale price $15541

note: there is no rebate on Sonata and there are no 2002 models of
    either.
  • joefitzjoefitz Member Posts: 1
I did my homework, and it was worth it. I started with carsdirect.com as a base, got quotes from no less than 10 different dealers, talked and test drove at 3 different ones, and was able to pick a dealer I liked and get an excellent price.
I got a 2003 GT 5-speet w/ sunroof and ABS, Carbon Blue, with some minor finishings-- $16,041 msrp, $15130 invoice, $13880 CarsDirect (incl. dest.)
I was able to bargain down to 13,200 after rebate. I paid 6% tax (before rebate) and $227 in reg. and fees (larger than it should be but resonable considering my price.) I did the VIN etch myself. I paid $50 more than my best offer from another dealer, but it was worth it for the quality of the dealership.
So far I love my car, and i'd strongly recommend towne hyundai in denville, NJ. Don't bother with Rt. 22.

Yesterday I purchased an 03 Elantra GT with sunroof for $6,070 cash (including Tax & license!) plus my 97 Del Sol Si.

Their 1st offer was $7,500 + tax, license... I said, not deal at that price. This was my 3rd time into the dealer and the 2nd day-long test drive. The sales manager came in & was irrate that I had put over 300 miles on their cars & still wasn't ready to purchase! He said make your best offer now or forget it! I countered with $5,300 + T & L. Ended up at $5,425 with mudflaps (+T & L) + my Honda.

1 minor surprise was that in Washington State, one pays sales tax on the rebate!!! But since I was prepared to spend up to $7K, I still have plenty of money left over for a strut bar, better bigger tires (205/60 HR15 Dunlop Sport A2s on OE rims), & window tint.

See Hyundai GT board if you want more details on my car decision process.

Well, my son needed a car and he got tired of buying a $3K car every year or two that cost another $2K per year in repairs. He bought an '03 Elantra GLS with option package #2 for $10K + taxes & license fees.

That included using the $1,000 rebate back to the dealer.

    Great deal from our perspective.

Today I bought a 2003 Elantra GLS after looking at a bunch of cars, most notably a 2002 Civic LX, 2003 Protege DX, 2003 Saturn Ion and a 2003 Nissan Sentra POS.

The Elantra was the best car of the group, and after a bunch of heated haggling with a clueless Hyundai dealer I walked out with a Black GLS with keyless entry, cruise control, anti theft alarm, and some pinstriping nonsense for $13600 on the road (including everything) and financed it at 0% for 60 months.

The price is decent but I am proud of the 0% financing I finally got. It took two visits to the dealer and a serious walkout (the guy I was talking to ran out as I was about to pull off and buy the Civic and told me he could do 0%). I forfeited a $1000 manufacturers rebate for the financing, but I put $1000 down and it kept the monthly payments down to where I wanted them (a little over $200 a month).

All in all, the Elantra is the most powerful, best looking and overall best value of all the comparable sized cars I looked at, and I am very happy with it.

I am new to these boards and now the proud owner of a 2003 Chianti Red Elantra GT 5-door, 5-speed with Option package 7 (sunroof & ABS), sunroof deflector and mudguards.

I paid $14,103 after rebate plus tax. tags, title in Maryland for an out-the-door price of $14,930.

I think it was a fair price, as it was under the Edmunds TMV, but I know they made some money off me. The dealership was very nice, though the salespeople seemed a little green, they were very low-key; no pressure. I bought it from Len Stoler Hyundai in Owings Mills, MD (north of Baltimore) and recommend them. When I have my first service, I'll tell you about my experience with them.

OK. Here's a deal. Got it from Maxon Hyundai, Union NJ.

After visiting 5 Hyundai dealerships in NJ,
Sansone (Manager called my offer stupid)
Bob Ciasulli (so much volume, they did not have a car I wanted--Great salesman though),
DiFeo (added 2995 appearance package to a 12000 car--they have got to be kidding),
Global (Add car gone, would sell up $1200 though for car with same sticker price), and
Maxon (the winner), here is the net/net...

First let me say this. Like most major auto markets, many dealers advertise deals that seem to good to be true. All of the above dealers play these advertising games in full page Saturday and Sunday ads, but only Maxon "put-up-or-shut-up".

None of the dealers had thier "ad car", but Maxon was the only one who said, "If you're ready to make deal, pick any car with the same sticker price, and it's yours for the ad price.

I figured, sure, he'll only have a diarreah green one for that sticker price. What a great surprise to find 9 of them left in various colors. Out came the credit card and vroom-vroom.

    MSRP 14432
    Paid 11241
Tax, Gap Insurance, Dealer Fees (which I negotiated down) = 1420
    LESS Rebate -$1000
    Net/Net Out the door....$11661

    No Kidding.

Not only that, I got them to beat my Credit Union 4.9%/60 to 4.19%/60.

To the guy above who got 0%/60, please let me know who financed you and what state you're in. Picking up car on 30JAN so I would like to do better on my rate.

    Happy buying.
