I see the same ads in the newspaper for the same car at $10,500, so either the price went up or the deals aren't as good as they were at the end of last year.
Dealer quoted and delivered $12,200. (includes 1500 rebate).
Add TTL, we were 13,300 Out the door.
No games, switches etc. I'd definitely recommend him.

He has a red and black (w sunroof)left. Told me if I bring in a customer he'll give me $100. If you go use my ref. and I'll give you 50 of it.
Thanks to all who have posted here at Edmunds. The info and network of everyones experience was invaluable.
BTW car is for my daughter... so sorting and deciding on a car, challenging...dealing with the dealers who wanted to sell at sticker, annoying...feeling you got a good deal and seeing your child excited...priceless.
Is $9000 (plus taxes) a good price for the vehicle? I test drove the vehicle and love it. Thanks.
The 2002 seems like a good buy at $9,000. However, something to consider -- the 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty is not fully transferable. I believe the powertrain warranty reverts to the same term as the 5 year/60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, which is fully transferable.
Still a good warranty, but not as good as the original...
Was there any type of significant change in the 2002 and 2003 models of Elantra GLS (exterior design or engine etc.)?
Secondly, the price for a 2003 Elantra (where I live) with above options is close to $13,400 (after a lot of negotiating). That price includes the $1500 rebate and also includes the destination fee. That is quite a bit of price increase compared to the LA market (where according to you it is about $11,000 for a similar vehicle).
So I can save almost $4500 by going with 2002 model with 10,000 miles. I got to make a decision by the end of this week. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.
The Elantra GLS has remained virtually unchanged from 2001 to the present. The base model has the power equipment (windows, doors), but option packages have changed configuration.
Check carsdirect.com for prices in your area. If you feel it is a good deal (and it seems like it is), you can always get an extended warranty if you want. Personally, I feel they are a waste of money and the Elantra has proven to be very reliable.
Also, check out Edmunds long term test of the Elantra. It is very inpressive!
Thanks for your input
Invoice is $13,248
Rebate is -1,500
Difference $11,748
So that $11,800 deal is $52 above invoice. You decide, but it sounds like people are doing a lot better than that during this year-end time...
MSRP $14,762
PAID $13,650
- $1500 rebate
$12,150.00 + they are adding a cd player?
Did I do good?

less trade $260.00(92Mazda protege w/201,225mi)
taxable amt $9514.38

Grand total $10213.00(ck # 2818)
MSRPincludes CC,Keyless remote w/Alarm, Antilock brakes W/Traction control, floor mats, mud guards and Inland freight! Amazing deal!!
daddioo- thats a great deal! over $3000 off before the rebate! You sure they didn't really give so much more because of low balling your trade-in? I think most people would be happy to get a base GLS at that drive-out (your grand total) price.
So that sounds like a good deal if in good shape.
ElantraStan
thanks in advance
How are the ABS brakes working for you?

Check out my 03 GLS...
I thought I got a great deal until I read post #423 for $12,200 and #428 for $12,000. Wow - those are terrific prices. How in the world did you manage those prices? I thought I was a tough negotiator - not any more.
I originally was looking at a 2003 GLS but after comparing it with the 2003 GT, I thought the GT was a much better value, especially since I wanted the CD player upgrade. I don't understand why Hyundai equips the GLS with a cassette deck.
I don't think there are many 2003 GTs left if you want to get the $1500 rebate.
I compared the Elantra with the Civic, Corolla, Protoge, and Sentra. I definately think the Elantra is the best deal going if you want a compact, especially with the $1500 rebate. Good price was a good car.
a fully loaded Elantra GT.
My goodness, how much under invoice did you pay?
Where did you get such a deal?
05 Elantra GT Hatchback (Silver), Package 8, Automatic Trans
The last offer was $17,226 before rebates.
I qualify for the $1750 and $500 (military) so after rebates it is: $15,016.
There is a $451 advertising charge that they were adamant about my having to pay because they have to pay it.
TMV invoice is: $16,275 and the Dealer invoice they showed me was: $16,726. I'm not sure where the difference is....
Carsdirect has the same car at $15,203.
I live in Oregon so my DMV fees are only $218. I plan to put $1500 down and throw my fees into the financing so my total over 60 mos. is $13,394...not that this matters as far as...
Did I get a good quote? I thought I'd post this as I peruse the 906 messages in this forum.
THANKS.
Just got back from vacation and saw your post. I bought my GT from Concord Hyundai in Concord,CA. Actually, I went in to see if they might match a quote of $13,600 otd for a base GT hatchback. They only had a one GT hatchback left which we negotiated to $13,900. I didn't even look at the invoice. It was about 30 minutes of negotiating since I was quite firm with my offer and was late for a dinner engagement. Didn't even drive the car until I picked it up next morning.
I've received Internet quotes from two of them, who each responded with the term "invoice". What that specifically is, they didn't say.. but I'm guessing somewhere around $11,900, which would be the wholesale price with a 4.5% markup. Consumer Reports has the invoice price at $11645.
I plan to go in with a set number based on a 2.5% dealer markup from wholesale ($11677) and a limit of 3.5% ($11790). I'm hoping that the entrance of the new model year has dealers looking to unload a 2003 GLS for $11,700. We are completely flexible with the color, so this may also help in negotiating.
How do recent buyers feel about about this plan? If you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know. Thanks!
At this late date, I imagine that you could get a
few hundred dollars below invoice. Try to get the
dealer to give you half of the 2% dealer holdback
or try to get them to eat some of their dealer doc
fees.
You may also want to look at the GT model. For only
$1550 more you get leather seats, allow wheels,
keyless entry, cruise control, fog lights,
6 speaker CD player, sport tuned, spoiler, purple
illuminated inside lights, nicer looking front
grill, protective molding, plus more stuff.
In my opinion, the GT model is a much better value
if you can afford the additional $1550.
to make a long story short, our sales guy did the "math" on the deal and of course it comes up to something more like $10,500 before tax for an automatic with standard options. compared to what i've seen here, that looked decent.. but it was his first offer, so i countered that i would pay only $9,500 before tax. at first he said we should begin looking at accents. we declined, thanked him for his help and got up from our seats. he quickly wrote down my number of $9500 and asked if i would initial his sheet with our credit card so his boss would know we were ready to buy. i agreed and he came back 5 minutes later with a handshake. we didn't get a choice of color (nordic white) but that was fine. we added keyless/alarm for a negotiated $500 more in the finance office but there was no pressure for it. we had plates on the car before the end of the day and drove off the lot satisfied. here's the rundown:
$9500 PRICE OF CAR
$500 OPTIONS
$863 SALES TAX
$112 NYS INSPECTION/REG/TAGS
$20 PROCESSING FEE
-----------------------------
$10995 OUT THE DOOR
on a side note, i'm doing a 10 day payout on the crummy 9.9% financing and going with a 3.9 through a credit union. now i'm on to the other boards!
Let us know how that 03 works out for you down the road.
Backy, I have to agree with you about having a check in your pocket. A dealer has a hard time walking away from cash. I think any fair offer with cash in hand can be made.. just grinding them for a low price does not get dealers attention.. $$$ does!
ElantraStan
i'll make sure to drop by the boards as i encounter new things with this car. so far, it's been great, though it was sad to see the miles climb past 100....
great price!
Bronxbuyer, thanks for the compliments on my site.
I am trying to find good links for other GLS owners.
ElantraStan
Lay that check down and be serious and they will bite.
Remind them that it is an 03, and you are doing them a favor as they have 04's all over the lot.
Good luck and let us know if it works out!

The dealer said possibly he can waive the $2000 trade-in credit, which then make the price before TTL to be $11,000
Drive out price will be $12,625
pls give your opinion thanks :-)
$13,999 (after the $750 rebate)
Not sure what you mean by the $2000 trade in credit.. are you trading in a car and getting $2000 for it?
If so, with taxes and docs, if you can get it for $12,625 that is a great price.
ElantraStan
dealer said that he possibly can give me the $2000 crdit without asking me for a trade-in car,
which means I don't need to bring him a trade-in car but still get the $12,265 drive price
An hour ago, I just heard from a friend that he bought a 2003 Mazda protege, which has all the options I got, plus sunroof, 6-CD-changer, $11,700 before TTL, which is $5,000 off MSRP. He is trying to pursuade me to buy a protege instead,
what do you guys think?
