not sure the answer to your question, but that is an amazing price! did you have a trade? rebate? does this include destination? tax?

i wonder what V6 owners are getting gas mileage wise. have been looking at a 4 cylinder, but if i could get a V6 for that price, i'd do it.

I bought my 09 Sonata in October - V6 with Nav. I get 23-24 MPG all around driving. Have not done a long HW trip yet. Very pleased with the V6.

Out the door (including freight, delivery, tax, doc prep, license, filing, registration...). This is the top of the line with navigation, tinted windows, floor mats and 5 oil changes. Please let me know how I did...

Myself I am looking at an 09. Either the SE or limited. Just started looking. Anyone have any dealings in NY/NJ?
  • newowner10newowner10 Member Posts: 227
The 2009 has improvements but at that price I would go with the 2008.

I found out the 08 Sonata for $12000 had been in a accident ( light hit) .Having my doubt about this deal.
  • mikebztmikebzt Member Posts: 44
Frustrates me that these dealership think we are in the blind. Got an internet price of $18863 for the GLS was called the Super Internet Blowout Price!
Then I emailed back asking about the 2K cash back and said "I’m sorry. I resent you a new quote with the rebate. I apologize."
    Dropping it to $16863
    I am already turned off
  • mikebztmikebzt Member Posts: 44
Oh and another from a different dealership when I asked about the Cash Back

After calculating the difference between the MSRP and the bottom-line price, not only are you saving with the $2,000 rebate, we're discounting the car another $1,892 which is also saving you more money on taxes. As long as your sister co-buys with you, you are eligable to save the extra $1500 off so I would recommend that as well. I definitely look forward to earning your business.

    Quoted
    $21,008 for SE
    $21,608 for the Limited

Need opinion: How is a price of $20,000 on ltd with mats and moonroof deflector.Includes all doc fees and no owner loyalty. This is a new car with my choice of colors :shades:
  • abagriabagri Member Posts: 11
If that includes taxes and dest charge, I'd say it is a good price. I got a Ltd with moonroof deflector, mats, mudguards and nav system for 21,500 out the door, and am pretty happy with the deal.
  • thekingtheking Member Posts: 107
Does not include Mass sales tax or reg fees but includes dest, charges :)
  • rik4rik4 Member Posts: 90
no bad king you might be able to get 100 or 200 more but not bad

    Hello All,

On February 25, 2009 I purchased a 2009 Sonata Limited 4 cylinder from Johnson Hyundai in Cary, NC (the only option was the floor mat set). The deal was done by email with several area dealers. Johnson's Email sales person (actually the Dealership General Manager) gave me the best price of the bunch at $21,206 OTD. He was very straightforward about price and was pleasant to deal with. Once the deal was struck, one of Johnson's sales associates showed us the automobile's operational features. Then after a visit with the finance person, we were on our way. Their customer treatment is exceptional!

Johnson Hyundai is located in a new facility and it is exceptionally well kept. For example, the floors in the automobile service area look unbelievably clean.

09 V6 Limited Sonata without Nav at 19750? It sounds like a great offer - can you please share which dealership it was? I am close to Charlotte so I would like to give it a try! Thanks!
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
If you are looking to buy a new 2009 Sonata and live in or near the Twin Cities, I found out today from a Hyundai rep at the Twin Cities Auto Show that not only is there a $500 Auto Show rebate now, but for the next two weeks local dealers will be offering $750 off if you finance through HMFC. (That wouldn't be a bad idea anyway, to qualify for the Assurance+ program). So if you happen to own a Hyundai in your immediate family, that would be a total of $4750 off before negotiations (if you finance through Hyundai)--$3250 w/o the loyalty rebate.

Just brought home our GLS 4 cyl. from the dealer. 15,100 before TTL w/ blue tooth, floor mats, free oil changes for 36 months. Feeling good about the price. We highly recommend the 394 Hyundai dealer.

Doing our part to stimulate the economy. ;)

    awriter,

Is this price of $19,989 out-of-the-door? Also, which dealer did you purchase from?

I am looking for the same car (2009 4 cyl Sonata Limited) and today visited four dealers with the best price at ~$21,750 OTD.

    Thanks
  • mikebztmikebzt Member Posts: 44
I know that OTD means taxes etc but now with the lolalty progra, we now should state if OTD includes the loyalty rebate... your figure of 21,750 is not bad if it does not include the loyalty rebate
  • sunnybreezysunnybreezy Member Posts: 4
could you please share more information where the dealership was? did it include the owner loyalty?
  • aniket_mdaniket_md Member Posts: 3
    Guys,

Today I bought a Hyundai Sonata SE v6 model with premium package (MSRP 23170 + 1650 = 25830) for an OTD price of 19500 dollars! The dealer I got it from is the Alexandria (VA) Hyundai dealer, and may have a few cars remaining in stock. He only had cars in black color, which was not my first choice; but for this price, what the heck!
  • mikebztmikebzt Member Posts: 44
I find it hard to believe $19500 OTD for a V6 SE
  • abagriabagri Member Posts: 11
Sure, it looks unbelievable, but I got a similar deal on a 2009 Limited 4-cyl with navigation. MSRP 26,750 (29,600 @ 7% tax, $1000 dest chrg + doc) and my price was 21,500 OTD. Hyundai has a $2000 manufacturer rebate and a $1500 loyalty rebate going on, and the dealer are certainly desperate to sell. One advantage of a depressed economy.
  • sunnybreezysunnybreezy Member Posts: 4
where did you get that deal? The best quote I got on 2009 Limited V6 w/o navi was 27,600 MSRP and sale price at 22,200 plus tax & doc fee, and they insist it is the best price. I would like to get this one, but I won't be happy about the price since it is not that different from Honda Accord of the same features! Somehow dealers in my neighborhood don''t seem that desperate to sell. Any thoughts or help?

Did your OTD include the 1500 loyalty credit?
  • seaweed20seaweed20 Member Posts: 30
Just got a 2009 4cyl Limited (w/o nav.) for $21,500 OTD. This does not include any loyalty rebate as this is my first car. After having my fingers burnt once, with a really bad dealer, hoping this one goes through. Paid my deposit today and picking up on Saturday.

    I am happy.
  • ral2167ral2167 Member Posts: 791
Did this include any other rebate?

I understand that if a lease is expiring there is an additional rebate. I assume you didn't have a lease? Any one know what all the rebates are for the sonata other than the loyalty ?
  • mikebztmikebzt Member Posts: 44
Rebates are as follows for March
    $2000 cash back (Sonata)
    $1500 Loyalty rebate
    $1000 armed services rebate
  • abagriabagri Member Posts: 11
Brad Benson in South Brunswick NJ. The sales guy did tell me (after I signed all the paperwork) that the dealership was taking a $2500 loss on the deal... but I guess that's what they tell everybody. My OTD included the $2000 cash to customer and the $1500 loyalty.

I got email quotes from three dealers in the area, and played them off against each other 2-3 times. Then I went to Brad Benson, told them I had visited two other dealerships and was going to see two more. Then I had them pick out the exact car (not features, the exact car) I wanted and test drove it. I told them I had financing available (I did), insurance available, in other words that I would buy the car today if the price was right. And also that I had plenty of time on hand, and would walk out if they tried to play games or rip me off.

If they believe that you are serious about buying and also serious about walking, you will get a good deal. Good luck!
  • abagriabagri Member Posts: 11
my suggestion - look up the invoice price on edmunds, add dest / doc / tax, subtract whatever rebates you are eligible for (2k cash to cust, 1.5k loyalty, 1k armed forces). Take off say another $700 for dealer rebates and to give yourself a negotiating cushion. That is your target price. Now ask your dealer for their best OTD price and start negotiating from there...

I found that dealers will sometimes take a loss on a transaction to meet their quota. The mfg (hyundai) charges them for every day that a car sits in the lot, so they want to get the cars out the door fast.

I bought a new Sonata SE v6 with the premium package (sunroof, 6 CD automatic changer, compass, electrochome mirrors, etc.). It's ebony black.

I also got 2 years free oil changes, and 1 free trial of the auto butler service.

I paid 19500 OTD. No bull.

I have already driven it around 200 miles, and have loved it. The engine is smooth, great pickup, did not feel any problems with the transmission.

A reporter is hoping to connect with people who recently bought a new vehicle and intend to drive it on vacation in the coming months. Please respond to jfallon@edmunds.com no later than March 31, 2009, and be sure to note what vehicle you purchased and what you think will make it functional and fun during your vacation.

Where did you get the deal?

    Thanks,

Picked up our Slate Blue Limited today. Could not be happier as got a great deal on the car ($21,500 OTD) and also a lot of free accesories which I had not asked for - Bluetooth, floor mats, mud flaps, cargo net, wind deflector for sunroof. The dealer also gave us a full tank of gas for free. :)

Also, financing from Hyundai was a steal at 4.9% for 60 months.

I highly recommend Sansone Hyundai in Avenel, NJ for anyone living in Jersey.

    Rebates:
    $2000 cash back
    $1500 owner loyalty rebate
Manager try to talk us into Financing for additional rebate savings, said we could pay it off on 1st payment. This would have netted us about $200 additional saving but we passed.
    Free remote start included.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
How do you figure a $200 savings on the $750 rebate for financing with HMFC? Surely the interest charge could not have been $550 in the first month.

When you said $16,400 OTD, did you mean that included doc fees, sales tax, registration and other state fees? What was the agreed upon price, the sales tax, doc fee, registration and any other state fee?
  • coskatcoskat Member Posts: 8
The OTD price is the total check( inclusive of all fees ect) I gave them to drive the car off the lot. As to the financing I didn't know the specifics( ie:$750 rebate) as the manager simply said he coud bring the price in at 16,000 if we did this. I just estimated interest off the top of my head at $150ish( had no idea of rate ect and am not the best at math) and split the 400 diff for a net 200 savings? The idea of financing was not an option in our research and I'm sure it would have been a good move assuming there were no fees for early payoff ect but my husband is a no loan/min aggravation type of guy who wanted out of the dealership ASAP. We didn't have to meet with the finance dept and were out in 1.5 hr from walking in with the car we wanted at $100 less then we originally offered. I'll admit it seemed too easy and I left feeling we could have done better but from my research I still believe we got a good deal with min time investment & aggravation.

You would be so kind as to tell me what state sales tax was on this GLS 4 cyl Pop Pkg. Also, can you also disclose additional fees such as a documentation fee, title and registration. I think you got a good deal but I need to convert the OTD price to my state.

    Thanks, FMcCool

Just took delivery of Slate Blue with Grey interior before the California sales tax increase. Dealers in Northern California (called from Stockton, to Livermore,) were not as aggressive as some of the deals I have read on the forums, but after some email and phone call negotiation, I was out of the dealership within 2 hours. (most of that included test drive, and reading through all the contracts thoroughly).

We finally ended up paying $18,400 OTD, and also had to sign up for 4.9% financing (which I can pay off with no prepayment penalty in 30 days, but will cost me minimum finance charge of $75.) So total cost: $18,475 OTD.
2009 GLS, AT, Pop Equipment Package 2, Mats, Cargo Mat. They applied a 2000 factory rebate, and $750 financing rebate. The MSRP was $21,025 for the car.
  • coskatcoskat Member Posts: 8
NY sales tax was $1575, dealer fee 45, inspect 10, tire fee 12.50, + car price 18271.58 =$19915 - $3500= 16415 They also paid our $140 registration fee and gave us free carpet mats that weren't on the sticker.

From which dealership in NY do you purchase this car? I live in NY.

I only know of Suresky that has phenomenal pricing on cars

I just purchased an 09 Sonata Limited WITH the Nav for $22,950 OTD in Atlanta (7% sales tax).

The only catch was that there were only 2 cars on the lot that could be haggled down to that price. 1 was black (which I bought) and the other was dark cherry red.

I could've gotten the slate blue, grey, beige or white W/O the Nav for $22,750 OTD.

They applied the factory $2000 rebate and the $750 financing rebate to get it down to that price.

The dealership was Ed Voyle's Hyundai
  • vzeeiborvzeeibor Member Posts: 9
I just bought a 2009 Sonata GLS 4 cyl, auto for $15446 before taxes and fees or $17355 OTD. I financed most of the vehicle cost so I got the $2,000 rebate plus the $750 rebate for using their financing. I got 5.9% for a 72-month loan.

I live in NJ and unlike a previous poster would NEVER recommend Sansone Hyundai. They badly mistreated me. I bought the car for less from another dealership.
  • seaweed20seaweed20 Member Posts: 30
Interesting to know about your experience with Sansone and I can understand. I have had my fingers burnt once with another dealer.

Were they the first dealer you visited for a quote? Did they back out on a quoted price?
  • topgun99topgun99 Member Posts: 1
I purchased GLS 4 cyl for 15200 with 2000 rebates and 750 financing rebate at towne hyundai nj. So far this is the best dealer experience I had so far compared to other dealers in NJ.

I would recommend them for thier rates and services.
  • coskatcoskat Member Posts: 8
re post 6093 Atlantic Hyundai West Islip. This is 2nd car I bought there in under 2 years( I got a good deal on my 07 Vera Cruz also). The Hicksville dealer couldn't come close either time with counter offers. It must be a volume issue. Needless to say my experience has been very positive.
  • vzeeiborvzeeibor Member Posts: 9
Sansone was the first dealer I visited for a quote though I had gotten online quotes from others. We reached a deal on a new, black sonata gls auto and I gave them a deposit. When I called the next day to schedule a pick-up, the salesperson informed me there was a problem-- the car he planned to sell me was a demo car with 4,500 miles on it. He said it had more than the basic options and would sell it to me for the agreed price. I had two problems with this. One: he should have called me to indicate he had made an honest mistake about the car. Two: he should have offered to reduce the price on what was in effect a used car.

I said I wasn't interested in a demo car and he agreed to try to find a black car at another dealership. He never made any effort to do so. In fact, he repeatedly ignored my phone calls and messages trying to resolve this. The next day the dealership received a new, black gls which the dealership claimed also had extra equipment (which I wasn't interested in) and would sell it to me for $800 more. They dropped this to $600 but I said I wouldn't pay more than the price we had agreed on and which I had a written copy of. I ended up getting a refund of my deposit and going somewhere else.

In addition, I found the whole sales process very sleazy. The salesman I dealt with the whole time did zero of the negotiating with me. He brought in their "estimator" who was an intimidating guy who handles the negotiating. It probably would have gone smoother if I had a definite price in my mind but I didn't, so I probably contributed to the tension. They also re-enginered the price to include the rebates. What I mean by this is they told me about the $2,000 rebate which I knew about. I didn't know about the $750 rebate for using their financing so they just added that to their math to get to the agreed on the price. They should have reduced the agreed upon price by $750.
