I just left them buying a Sonata GLS Automatic. It was 14400 with the rebates and such. With Tax and tags it was a few bucks under $16000. I fought to get them to throw in the IPOD wire and after some work, they did.
I think I did good.
Thanks ALL!
To clarify: was this a new 2009 (not a demo)? And was it a straight deal with no trade-in allowance? Did your car include Opt. Pkg 2?
I assume it included $1500 loyalty and $750 HMFC rabate, which is sadly not available in April.
Thanks for any additional info you can provide.
No option packages. Just GLS with Automatic. No HMFC rabate. Just the $1500 and $2000 Rebates.
STD Sonata GLS: 19,056$
Popular equipment package: 592$
Carpeted floor mats: 76$
Mudguards: 68$
Cargo net:41$
iPod cable: 24$
Cargo tray:76$
Advertising: 250$
Delivery charge: 695$
Total: 20,878
The dealer gave me the usual 3500$ rebates and a bit more, at 17,100$. I would like to check this price with you, here on the forum. I did not notice the advertising fee at first. When I got home I have seen it and I thought that I should have asked the dealer to take it off. I have not signed anything yet, so I still can ask to remove that tomorrow. What do you think?
In addition to taxes, I also have to pay 298$ documents fee and 86$ new plates fee. I am in MA.
Here is what I got:
Elantra GLS, automatic, slate blue, floor mats, mudguards, cargo net, and iPod cable. All in all, OTD, it was 17,700$. This included registration and all.
I probably could have done a bit better, but I don't really know. At the end, I am happy with the price anyway.
Thanks,
Chintan

Review your vehicle
The problems I have in a year of ownership are very disconcerting and have me very concerned about long-term reliability. I bought a new car specifically so I wouldn't have to deal with the kinds of problems I'm dealing with. If you don't want to wait for the review to go up, I have also detailed these problems in the transmission problems forum.
Buyer beware! There is a reason Hyundai is not ranked with the best of Japan. They've made great quality strides in the past 25 years, but they have a ways to go before they're on the level of a Honda or a Toyota. I'm going to take it on the chin trying to sell my one year old Sonata V6 Limited, I know that. That is the price I will pay for not buying an Accord EX-L V6 or a Camry SE V6, both cars I was considering, and both cars that have considerably better resale value than the Sonata.
What do you guys think? It's only been 2-3 days since I bought it!
I think you should forget about what other people are paying now for their Sonatas, since you can't do anything about that, and enjoy your new car.

I ended up buying it from an upstate NY dealership in Syracuse area instead of going to NJ to save a few hundred maybe. Anyway I look at it I LOVE the car and thank everybody here for their great feedback and help along the way!
GLS 4 cyl auto with popular equipment package 3, bluetooth, carpeted floor mats, mud guards, cargo mat and net, and sunroof wind deflector.
According to the dealer's web site, the list price for this is $21,785. With the $2000 rebate, the $1500 loyalty rebate and dealer discounts, I've been given a price of $16,485.
I think the price is pretty good, but I'm looking for a sanity-check here.
Any feedback or opinions?

I'll post again when I know what I'm talking about.

That said, you have run into one of the few levers one has over the dealers, which is the phone survey. The fact that they mentioned it may mean their #'s may be bad for the quarter.
To give them a good survey for $40 in oil changes would be silly. Call the store manager and if you don't get a $1000 check-ski then its all F-ski's. Nothing wrong here, they are just offering $40 and you want $1000. See if he calls back if he initially refuses or blast em in the survey. Promise them all your warranty work (if they do it there). They either go for it or they don't. Then live and learn.
good luck

So I just bought my Sonata '09 GLS automatic for 14400 before tax and tags. Now I see in the paper a lower price, which I confirmed by calling them. The same dealer can now sell me on for 13593! Obviously I can't do anything about it and I'm shocked and pissed at the same time. I thought 14400 was a heck of a deal. I called my sales guy to complain and of course he wasn't interested in doing anything about it. After a ton of arguing about it he was willing to give me 3 free oil changes (onlyt because I haven't done the survey yet), he wants in return for me to give them full 10s on the phone survey.
What do you guys think? It's only been 2-3 days since I bought it!
Grow up and take some personal responsibility here. You're a grown up for G-d's sake and in life, we have to live with our decisions. Quit whining and just move on and enjoy your new car!

Today I got an offer of 17,500 OTD. How do you guys think? Please tell me your thoughts.
Thanks.
I got it for 17,500 OTD.
By the way, don't go to Bobbell Hyundai. They are rude.
do you qualify for additional rebate? e.g. loyalty, lease...
I am sorry that you got a bad car. Who knows! Not every car is perfect. About comparing Sonata to Camry and Accord: You don't have to be Einstein to know that Hyundai is not as good as both of them in terms of quality. The question is: Is the difference in quality worth about 7 to 8 grands? Yup: An equivalent Camry could be had for about 27 grands, whereas the Sonata was bought by me at 19.5 grands. (Read one of my earlier posts for the model that I bought).
Hyundai serves a market. I am not looking to own a car for 20 years. I am very sure that within 20 years, everyone will be buying hybrids. The car technology is about to experience a generation shift. So to pay more for a Toyota or Honda because they will last a lifetime is not that smart a choice anyway. It's better to get the best with the least buck, and Hyundai is perfect for that.
Oh yes, they do give you a 10 year powertrain warranty. So you are covered for 10 years at the very least.
Please post something when you have some sane things to say.
But the truth be known he really lost $5,000 as soon as he took possession of it. Believe m Honda and Toyota that doesn't happen you may pay more but you get a better car that is a asset not a liability. Hyundai hope you go broke. the TM for Hyundai I hope you get fired for your dishonesty may you rot in hell. :lemon:
Within 1000 miles Washington state preferred will pay a small finders fee $200 each if any one can set the deal up for me delivery anytime next 3 months, may consider used ay right price.
Also it seems you got shafted by a crooked dealer, but after some follow up, you got the 10-100 warranty you wanted.
So I'm really not sure what your point is here.
So this evening I'm scheduled to pick up an '09 Limited I-4, black / cocoa, with navigation, for $21,699 out the door. That seems to be a good deal in the Atlanta area. And they're extending the powertrain warranty to 20 / 200,000, and you can get the maintenance done anywhere, not just atthe dealer.
The first thing that stands out to me is the great gas mileage I get! The car is fun to drive and the 4cyl 2.4 engine has plenty of zip to get around town or merge onto the interstate.
I drove a lot of other mid-size sedans while shopping, and I have to say that the Sonata is hands down the best deal for the money.
What I like:
The aggressive looking front end, very stylish exterior, interior room, fantasitc gas mileage, instrument panel, ride comfort, and the trunk is bigger than my first apartment (seriously, that trunk is massive).
What I don't like:
I found that I'm hard-pressed to find something wrong with the car, but I wanted to put something here. So, here are my (admittedly very picky) issues with the car. The passenger side sun visor does not come with the extention like the driver's side, the engine can be a little bit loud at high RPM in low gears, and...uh...that's really it.
I have to say, I am extremely happy and pleased with the '09 Sonata, and would recomend it to anyone!
However, the dealer sticker of $21,195 is $1800 higher than MSRP for a Sonata GLS stick shift, unless you have every option available. which would still be less than dealer sticker. The dealer sticker probably included dealer add-ons, such as window etching, pin stripes, fabric protectors, etc.
MSRP, including destination, is $19,395 and invoice is $18,617 (without options), so you still got a great deal.
Hope yours treats you as well as my '05 and my brother's '07 have treated us.
The $14,500 price I got included things like window etching, floor mats, fabric protection (glorified Scotch Guard), mud guards, cargo net, iPod cable, and the Blu-Tooth hook up (which I'll never use), but, of course, did not include tax, title, tags, and destination charge.
I'm sure others buying a similar '09 Sonata have gotten a better deal (a quick cruise through the forums here has confirmed that), but for a 26 year old buying his first "brand new" car, I think I made out pretty well, and came in under my budget.
Again, for those reading this thread looking for owner reviews, please do yourself a favor and at least test drive the 2009 Sonata! Talk about "bang for your buck!" This car will suprise you (and your wallet).
One dealer on the phone is offering the automatic Limited 4cyl with moon roof and navigation system for $21,500 OTD (California, including $1,400 of Owner Loyalty Rebate). Is that good?
thks
One of the cars on my "buy" list was a 2008 Hyundai Certified Sonata GLS I4 AT with moonroof. It too had a very good price, but I decided to pass on it because it was not a color I prefer (plain white with tan interior; I already have a sedan in that color in the family), it had some minor damage that the dealer seemed reluctant to fix at their asking price, and the car had been smoked in--a lot. Plus the Rabbit is more fun to drive and has better crash safety, and I do like hatchbacks.
Most of the cars on my short list (Hyundai Sonata included) are sedans, but I'm not sure if I can go back to a regular trunk after having my 5-door hatchback!
I am getting online quotes of 23k + tax and fees.
