sounds like a pretty good deal to me considering most people are paying for the gls model between $19500-20,000,range............

Are you with Hyundai dealership? How would you know that? I cant find a Sonata SE in harbor gray. There are plenty of cars at Honda, Toyota, Nissan and just about most dealerships. Its hard to find more than few Sonatas at any Hyundai dealership and despite that they are willing to discount it. Imagine if it was one of the Big 3 Japanese car company with solid demand. Yes, there are some Hyundai dealers that are selling at full MSRP or above. If you buy at MSRP you will cry!

This is a midsize sedan. To have to pay MSRP for what is essentially a commodity is foolish. If a dealer isn't discounting, find one who will, or wait 6 months to a year and every single Hyundai dealer in America will be selling these at invoice or below invoice to get the inventory moving.

I bought 2011 Sonata GLS Automatic yesterday at $18,708 - $ 400 college rebate plus TTL. Also got 2 free oil changes+carpeted mats+lifetime carwash+trunk net + wheel locks. Good deal?
  • steven39steven39 Member Posts: 636
sounds like you got a great deal given the extra's that were thown in as well.most dealers are not budging much from the msrp do to the new 2011 sonata being a brand new model..
  • doublehomedoublehome Member Posts: 3
Almost bought 2010 Sonata GLS at $14999 - $ 400 college rebate + TTL = $16.4 K OTD (thanks to sky high tax rate in Chicago). That was 5k lower than 2011 OTD. But I was happy driving home with 2011. Just love the new design and bluetooth...

Bought a 2011 GLS with PEP2 in San Antonio. Options/charges included pearl white paint, floor mats, trunk mat, wheel locks. True MSRP was $22110. Dealer had a second sticker that added $1000 of overpriced extra items like window tint, pin stripe, nitrogen in the tires and some other things that while nice, I wasn't going to pay for. Purchase price was $20300 + TTL (includes $400 grad discount). I was aiming for $19900 but was ready to get out of there and the tint, etc. is worth a little extra. Also includes a free second tank of gas, first oil change, and nitrogen fills.

What dealership did you end up buying from? I found the local Hyundai dealerships can be difficult to deal with and don't seem to respond to internet inquiries.
  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141
Its a decent price. If you haggled maybe 20k. There are incentives from factory to dealers, so they are making good profit. If the demand was not so hot you would have gotten it for well under 20k plus TTL!

If you are willing to drive 275+ miles, try DFW metroplex area dealers. I got quoted 20,000k plus TTL, for GLS plus PEP and mats from few dealers in May/June. Huffines Hyundai Plano and Eckert Hyundai Denton, TX will email you a quote but you can get it for less than that if you bargain on phone or in person! I used Edmunds to get a quote and also Hyundai's website. Put Plano zip code like 75025 for address!

Purchased from McCombs NW on I-10. Salesmen were fine, really went over features of the car, and didn't try to waste my time. I told them $19.9, they said 20.8K and showed me their invoices, etc. I said no thanks and was leaving when the manager came out and wanted to deal some more and gave me a 20.4, then 20.3 offer. A bit over my target price but the dealer extras helped justify it a bit more.

    It looks like great deal.
Can you give information which dealer shop?
    Thank you.

Not a bad deal at all, have found that Hyundai dealers are hard to deal with here in SA, I wouldn't have paid for the add-on's either.

Hi, does anyone know the July money factor and residuals on the GLS and the other Sonata models?
    Thanks!

My point is it has been 10 days since my original post and not one post about someone buying a 2011 Limited. Only two posts about a purchase of 2011 period. I am considering buying this vehicle but no real input here yet on what to expect to pay for 2011 Limited with no other options.

Sure it says $24,979 but it also says dealer cost is $22,869. Curious if anyone has had luck getting something close to $23k.
  • pattyny811pattyny811 Member Posts: 4
My Limited listed for 26,150 (included floor mats and cargo net). I got it for 24,453.
    Worth every penny :)))))

Just got an pacific blue SE 2011, $2,720 off MSRP+got them to give free stripes and edge guards on doors and above tires. Car has nav+sunroof pkg. Can or has anyone beat that?
  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141
Once you have completed a sale, isn't it moot to know what others are paying? What if someone got it cheaper than yours? Is there a an award? . Each car sale is unique!

Just enjoy your car knowing most are paying close to MSRP and you got a very good deal for a hot car!

I definitely wouldn't ever pay close to MSRP, especially for a new kid on the block, relatively speaking!
  • pkumar1981pkumar1981 Member Posts: 15
The forum is called: "Prices Paid: Buying & Leasing Experiences" .. hope the prices one pays helps the next in line .... seems like some people here r car sales people themselves.
  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141
First, one should NOT ever use MSRP as a benchmark, It's a number car sales people like to quote you. You never mentioned what your total OTD price is or the selling price with dest.?

I have ordered SE with no options except mats & wheel lock for OTD of 22,600? How much does that compute"Off MSRP?"
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
OTD is useless without knowing what your taxes and fees are, which are different for every state.
  • alookmanalookman Member Posts: 141

    Very true!

In this forum the meaningful format should state the selling price (w/dest. inc.) than the sales tax (if applicable), dealer fees and title and reg fees. OTD is only relevant for same states and it helps since Hyundai dealers vary by their doc./process fees.

    For Example:
    S.P. with dest. (state) ......
    S Tax .........................
    Doc./Process fees..........
    T & L............................
    Cpn.( disc).......................
    Total OTD............................

Don't forget to mention your trade-in with that formula... which is difficult. If the dealership undervalues your trade by 5 grand, and gives you your new car at 1 grand under invoice, you still could be looking at a bad deal. Then someone comes in here saying they got their Limited at $1k under invoice without mentioning their lowball on their trade-in.

As Consumer Report and any smart shopper knows that you SHOULD NOT even mention the trade in till your selling price and OTD has been agreed around.

If you do so, the dealer will play with numbers all to his advantage. Your trade in should be determined by the KBB not the car's purchase price and only mentioned as the last stage of the deal. Dealers love it when customers walk in and announces that they want to trade in.

BTW Car Max will always beat the new car dealers's trade in price except you will lose the sales tax saving.

Most salesmen will tell you it doesn't matter. They will be able to sniff out a trade-in anyhow. And it's not like they're not going to ask about a trade-in when you pull up in your used car to buy a new one.

Even if you spring a trade-in at the last second, they can still fatten their profit margin if you are too focused on your new car price and not what you should be getting on your trade.

Your trade in should be determined by the KBB not the car's purchase price and only mentioned as the last stage of the deal.

Dealerships determine what your trade-in is worth from going by auction house prices. This is often much lower than KBB. Use KBB, Edmunds ( ;) ) current market demand, and other resources to determine a proper price.

What do you mean sniff it? Not all buyers trade in cars.

I have not ever traded in my car, but I just helped my sister with her LX-P purchase. The dealer agreed on 19,200 plus TTL and than she blurted out that she wanted to trade in her 2005 Camry LE with 40k & immaculate condition. His tone and attitude changed and now he wanted to sell LX-P at 19,200 ONLY if she traded in at 7k. We walked out and she sold it for 10k and we went back and got the LX-P at same price.

BTW Car Max was giving her wholesale price of 8.500. Dealer would have done the same if she had waited. The retail value is about 11k.

This "not mentioning your trade thing" surfaces every now and then. It's hogwash. If you have done your homework, you will know what BOTH CARS are worth.

ALL THAT MATTERS IS THE DIFFERENCE. I have purchased cars, where I tell them what I want for my trade, and what I will pay for THEIR car. That equals the difference that I want to pay. Then at the last minute (for whatever reason) they will change the numbers (sell price/trade in) of the cars. BUT THE DIFFERENCE WILL REMAIN THE SAME.

I could care less. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE.
  • chuck1chuck1 Member Posts: 1,405
If $8,500.00K is wholesale then around $8,500.00 is the correct price. (you get near wholesale on a trade in). If she would have wound the deals together (her car and the new car) you could arrived at the difference-

    $19,200.00
    - 8,500.00
    ----------------
$10,700.00 tell them to take it or leave it. (It's up to you if you want to sell the car yourself or not.)

The dealer trade-in allowance is a game the dealers play. Some buyers want "more" than their trade is worth and they get it. But they pay top dollar for the "new" car. Other buyers want the "new" car at wholesale price and get wholesale for their trade.

Actually, dealers like to pay top dollar for a trade (and charge top dollar for the new) because they can then show the used car buyer what they actually paid for the trade-in.

The buying public doesn't beat the dealers at the dealers game. Some get great deals and the uninformed can get hosed, but the dealers always make out OK . They have to in order to stay in business. That's a good thing.

I am in Northern CA and got several quotes on a new 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS w/PEP and the SE. Below are the best quotes I have got. I would like to get feedback on whats the lowest price I can get on a GLS w/PEP and SE. Thanks

    GLS w/PEP $20,686 plus TTL

    SE $22,056 plus TTL
  • pkumar1981pkumar1981 Member Posts: 15
CA market is tough. In NJ I purchased a SE w/nav+sunroof pkg +ipod cable and trunk mat for 23,800+TTL+docs. the deal you are getting on the SE sounds like one without nav. I even got them to slap on pin stripes on the sides of the vehicle and rubber edge guards around the doors and above tires for free. Good Luck!

keep in mind SE w/nav is very tough to get! Color choices are not even a choice here in NJ, I waited two months for white, I ended up with Pacific Blue.

Remember to asks the dealerships about their doc. fee, which generally can run anywhere from $199-$699. A high doc. fee can turn a good deal into a mediocere one. I'd make a OTD offer, throwing around $100 in the pot for the doc. fee.

Just paid 18,600 OTD, for 2011 GLS. Only additional option included was floor mats. Also included is lifetime oil changes and state inspections. Includes Loyalty and Graduate rebates(900) total so real total is 19,500
Va sales tax is 3% plus about 70 for tags.

That sounds like a great idea. I live just north of the plant in Montgomery, AL. I know for a fact they are working 24/7 due to the high demand for the Sonata. Even dealers in Alabama are having issues with keeping enough on the lot for buyers. I also think that the prices are slowly increasing due to the fact that people are knocking down the doors to buy them. My husband talked to one dealer who said they expected the price that they asked for because of the demand, so I guess we've missed the name your price game. Does anybody else have suggestions for buying? Does your limited have the nav?

  • pkumar1981pkumar1981 Member Posts: 15
I think 22-6 might be possible+ttl+doc fee. without Nav.&sunroof option. I purchased two sonatas 2011 SE since the past week. I just came home with a white one last night (I think I've left Toyota for Hyundai). I delt with sales manager mostly, so the connection has helped me greatly. If you are serious about this let me know, I will make a call and refer you over. what colors did you have in mind? I saw a silver one there yesterday without nav. not sure if it is still available. you can send me an email/message.

I purchased a pearl white 2011 SE three weeks ago in SE Florida for $21,327. Did not include taxes/license, and no options..
  • pkumar1981pkumar1981 Member Posts: 15
sounds like a great deal. dont think anyone has come down that much in NJ. Does your deal include destination charges & Doc Fee? what did you pay out the door, before any down payments ....
  • oceans3101oceans3101 Member Posts: 4
That price indluded the destination charge, but not the license transfer fee ( $90.) and not the 6.5% Fl sales tax . It was very difficult to find that color in SE Fl. Transaction was agreed to on the last day of June.

Test drove the Sonata SE (white) today. I was very impressed with it's power and handled nice. The ride is a little stiff, but not bad at all. Now for the Costco pricing......
MSRP on this Sonata SE was 23,735 .... Costco price is 21,635. No haggling, no games. I was very tempted to pull the trigger, but I am going to wait for the turbo and if I can get the same deal with the turbo, I'd be looking at around 23,000 for an SE turbo, with costco pricing. Right now this offer throu costco excludes the limited due to very low inventory on the limited. If your really looking to buy this car, my advice is spend $50.00 and join costco and find out which Hyundai dealer is participating. You'll get a very good deal and no haggling at all.
  • hitchinhitchin Member Posts: 2
I picked the car up today. Purchased at Flemington Hyundai. Salesman was very easy to deal with. In my experience it was a very easy, straightforward deal. No trying to sell me this and that and very easy to deal with from start to finish. Very happy with the deal. I sent in a request for a quote on their website and paid 21,304.50 out the door including TTL.
