Hi Howard 18, Could you please tell me what package 02 and 01 include? Thanks
  • dunbar1dunbar1 Member Posts: 10
Backy, bhmr, howard seem to know a lot more than this little guy BUT

Id guess it has something to do witht he massive amount of buyers in the area and there being a few wholesale places that supply that demand.

Some So.Cal people raved about gettting amazing deals there....and that region also fits the bill.

Here is the deal I was quoted for a Sonata. This is in the Chicago area.

GLS, 4 cyl. automatic w/ popular equipment pkg, floormats, cargo tray: $16,141 (roughly $17,500 OTD)

Limited 4 cyl. automatic w/ sunroof, floormats, cargo net $19,288 (roughly $20,900 OTD)

OTD prices are rough because she quoted me prices using 9% sales tax and as Michigan residents, we only have to pay 6%. So I recalculated myself the best I could using 6% tax.

These prices seem to be about $850 below invoice.

    Thoughts?

I am collecting quotes from various dealers, and the one I received today mentioned a $2500 rebate. Does anyone know if the rebate has been increased, or does this guy just not know what he's talking about?
  • gabebalazsgabebalazs Member Posts: 18
I think the official manufacturer's rebate is $2000 BUT there can be extra rebates offered by the dealership, e.g. auto show rebate etc.

When I bought my sonata a couple of weeks ago, it had $2500 rebates on it because Fitzmall added an extra $500 auto show rebate. By the way I never went to that auto show.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Rebate on the 2007s is $2500. Are you looking at a 2007 or 2008?
  • southhavenjensouthhavenjen Member Posts: 22
It's an '08. Reading the (poorly worded) email again, I think the extra $500 comes from the Auto Show rebate.
  • howard18howard18 Member Posts: 53
Never pay more than $15K+TTL for GLS basic w/ Auto~!!!

I am sure you can $15K for the GLS basic w/ Auto~ if you really negotiate that with the dealer!

Well, it might not be as great a deal as it first appears. Did you see the small print at the bottom?

All prices plus tax, tags, freight & $100 dealer processing fee (Not req by law). Prices incl. all applicable rebates. Not all customers will qualify for all applicable rebates. Dealer installed option is additional. See dealer for details. All vehicles subject to prior sale. Some vehicles may be demos.

I highlighted the interesting parts. Freight (i.e. Destination Charge) adds another $675. And it looks like they have included special incentives such as the student and military rebates. Then there's the part about demos. And I wonder which cars have dealer-installed options that aren't removable?

Just proves the old adage to "read the fine print." ;)

The official $2k Hyundai rebate plus dealer discount for internet pricing and no-trade cash deal. So far, this purchase transaction has been a very straightforward process with no sales pressure or surprises. And, since I'm comfortable doing my own research, that's just the way I like it. If the delivery process tomorrow goes as smoothly, I won't hesitate to give this dealer a very positive referral.
  • underwoodskeeunderwoodskee Member Posts: 7
How much should I be paying for a 2008 Sonata V6 SE or Limited on the road? I don't wish to add any extra options. BTW, I live in Maryland. Of course I'd like to get the best price possible, but more importantly I don't want to overpay.

    Thanks, Stephen Underwood
  • underwoodskeeunderwoodskee Member Posts: 7
I apologize, the figure I put in my previous post was with the $2000 rebate. I told the salesman that I would opt for the 0% financing in lieu of the $2000 rebate. The MSRP + destination on the vehicle was $24,745. They were offering me the car for $23,600 + $100 dealer handling fee. 6% MD sales tax is $1422 and the tags are $225. This brings the car to a total of 25,347. What do you think is a fair price for me to offer? What did everyone else pay for the 2008 Limited V6?

    Thanks, Stephen
  • underwoodskeeunderwoodskee Member Posts: 7
I went today and got a price on a 2008 Sonata Limited V6. The price they gave me was $23,347 on the road. Is this a bit high, or do you think this is a fair price?

    Thanks, Stephen Underwood
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
The lowest-priced 2008 Limited V6 per Edmunds.com is $24,845, so maybe the one you were quoted on has been sitting awhile (since it looks like there's been a price increase since that car was made). You can check the manufactured date inside the driver's door if you want. Anyway, on the $24,845 Limited, the invoice per Edmunds.com is $23,283; it would be a little less on your car. So the dealer is offering you a price on a car that is one model year old (since the 2009s are out now) that is several hundred dollars over invoice. I don't think that's a very good deal. Especially considering that some dealers in your area e.g. Fitzmall are offering much lower prices. For example, Fitzmall in Gaithersburg is offering right now 2008 Limited V6s with a MSRP of $24,980 for as low as $19,904 with the $2000 rebate, so $21,904 without. That's with destination charge but w/o taxes and license.

f you really want to buy from the dealer you have been talking with, you could use the prices from Fitzmall as a bargaining chip--either print out the screen and bring it in, or ask the sales rep to bring up Fitzmall's Web site and look at their Internet prices.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
It seems too high for a 2008. What was the MSRP on the car including destination, and what was the price before taxes, license, fees but after any rebates and discounts? And did you opt for the 0% financing or the $2000 rebate?
  • underwoodskeeunderwoodskee Member Posts: 7
Thanks! I will check Fitzmalls website. The place that gave me this quote was Schaefer & Strominger.

Just paid 16,942 OTD for the white pearl one which is extra, no sunroof. End of the month, I think dealers all over are really really trying to move these puppies.

As for the sale, NO sketchy garbage, NO BS. Maybe I couldv'e gone lower, but I'll take 15,248 for the car with the white (which for some reason is more $$$)

I honestly can't say enough about Towne Hyundai at this moment. I spoke on the phone, went back and forth a few times, but it was never painful. I did pay more than I'd hoped for, but I was hoping for a sick price.

I came, I saw, I bought. Every single person I spoke with was hilarious, and didn't BS me. There weren't mats in the car when I test drove it, and the person who quoted me on the phone said it came with mats. When I mentioned that there were no mats, I received a genuine concern and reassuring, 'you are getting mats, I'll get them now...no worries.....' Like I said, no BS at all.

Plus they matched my credit union's financing....I have never bought a car and only heard horry stories up till this point, but my experience was totally different. I apologize if anyone has had a different experience there or anyone has a bad experience if you use any of this feedback as a component of your decision making process. I'm very happy with the moment...and sad my poor sonata will be out in the cold alone tonight  . My finacee won't let me take it inside for the nighT, I don't think it could fit under the covers anyways..... :P

Big congratulations! What kind of package do you choose? Popular package 2? What does it include? Thanks.
  • howard18howard18 Member Posts: 53
I though you pay too much? I guess......no so sure...

is the $15,248 include destination charge? If not, i consider higher price.
  • gabebalazsgabebalazs Member Posts: 18
I paid $20,661.00 for my Deepwater Blue 08 Limited V6 with sunroof. It had 5 miles on the odometer. Bought it from Fitzmall.
I live in Ohio, so after Ohio tax, title, processing fee the total came out to $22,413

My car's MSRP with the sunroof option (the only significant offer option) + dealer installed floor mats and cargo net was $25,880.00

I bought mine on January 28. It had $2500.00 in rebates because besides the 2K factory rebate they had an extra 500 auto show rebate. I went with the rebates and not the 1.9% financing. At that time 60 months had 1.9% financed through HMFC, but I got a decent rate from a different bank, and put down 6 grand as a down payment, so for me the $2500 rebate was a better deal than the 1.9% financing.

Yes, Fitzmall does have a couple 08 Sonatas that are 24,745 MSRP sold at high 19K range, but most of the V6 Limited models w/ no sunroof that have the $24,745 MSRP go a little bit above 20K. Models w/ sunroof go around 21K (including the rebates.) I bought my car when their rebates were the best I think. (the same car that I bought for 20,600 is around 20,900 now when the 09s have practically come out)

I was in a similar situation, here in NW Ohio no dealer wanted to go as low as Fitzmall, so I contacted them, took care of the purchase, bought my $68 one way plane ticket, then drove the car home (450 miles). It was a good day :shades:

    To Wildcat

    This was listed awhile back

    http://www.northfreewayhyundai.com/MiscPage_4

How I made my decision for Pop 2 package...ENJOY!

    To Howard18

The 16950 OTD price for GLS w/popular 2 package w/ the white pearl paint for that price....everything....Originally I was offered GLS Base for that amount. Maybe they could've gone lower, but the BS was non-existant in my mind and I had a good laugh with EVERYONE I spoke with. Considering no other dealer could TOUCH that price when I asked and gave me BS excuses, I was pretty happy. I dunno, I thought 16950 was for the GLS/pop 2/white pearl was pretty darn good. Thoughts Howard?

Thanks to all again for the help!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I wanted the car in silver. The only silver one I saw at Fitzmall was $20,342. Add back in the $2000 rebate + $99 processing fee = $22,441 + tax $1346 + tags $225 = 24,012. I come up with a figure of $380 less at Fitzmall. Unfortunely, I can't continue to shop around because I'm spending $30 a day on a rental. The engine just went up on my 99 Mercury Mystique. I know I didn't get the best deal out there, but a least I feel like it was a pretty fair deal. I think he is going to throw in the tint as well.

    Thank you all for help!

How much should I be paying for a 2008 Sonata V6 SE on the road? I don't wish to add any extra options. BTW I'm ok to pick up the car in Omaha,NE or Dallas,TX...either location is ok with me.

    Thx
  • underwoodskeeunderwoodskee Member Posts: 7
Scheafer & Strominger got back in touch with me. They have lowered the OTR price to $24,393. Remember that this is without the $2000 rebate. I would be opting for the 0% financing. Do you think this is fair? I was going to ask if they will throw window tinting into the deal as well. They are still $486 higher than what I found at Fitzmall. The thing is, S&S is 10 minutes from my house and Fitzmall is 62 miles away.

    Thanks, Stephen
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Well, since you asked... for $462 I'd drive the extra 50 miles. Remember, you can have the car serviced at any dealer you choose.
  • dhollydholly Member Posts: 16
With all due respect, are you comparing 'apples to apples'? Unless the two cars are optioned 'exactly' alike, the savings (or premium) may be more than you think.

For example, if you want an '08 Ltd V6 without a sunroof from Fitzmall, they have one listed on site right now for $18,936 (stock# H369147, Dark Cherry/Black Leather w/ cargo mat and carpeted floor mats, MSRP $25,020).

If you opt for the special financing, just add back the $2000 rebate and you would pay $20,936 Delivered Internet Price plus a $99 processing fee or $21,035 total. Even if that price included a further $500 'auto show rebate' that needed to be added back, your worst case scenario is $21,436 plus $99 or a total cost of $21,535.

Hmmm... higher MSRP car for lower asking price at Fitzmall vs. lower MSRP car for higher asking price at S&S... I know what I'd do... :)
  • dhollydholly Member Posts: 16
Actually now that I look closer, when backing out the OTR figures you used it seems like the S&S car only cost was approx $22,650. If that is correct, your OTR cost would actually be $1,115 - $1,615 LOWER at Fitzmall for a more expensive car!

Hmm... did I do that right? :confuse:
  • underwoodskeeunderwoodskee Member Posts: 7
I actually saw two Limited V6's that were 18,396. I wonder why they have V6's that are cheaper that some of the V4's. All the other V6 Limited's are priced a good bit higher. Unfortunetly neither of those cars are silver.

    Stephen
  • gabebalazsgabebalazs Member Posts: 18
Regarding Fitzmall's prices, I too was wondering why there are a couple of 2008 V6 Limited models (no sunroof) on their lots, that are cheaper than most other 08 V6 Limiteds (no sunroof) on their lot... (high $18K/low $19K vs. low $20K).

I did buy my car from them a few weeks ago (good experience). I started looking for Sonatas last year in April, and I contacted Fitzmall back then because I had seen a new V6 SE on their website for a really low price. So I called and it turns out that that particular SE was a demo with a few thousand miles on the odo. Still it was listed on their website among the new Sonatas, and their was no indication that it was a demo (probably because technically it had never been titled.)

So I'm wondering that those one or two less expensive V6 Ltd ones on their website are demos. They are like a grand cheaper than most other same model V6 Limited.
  • family44family44 Member Posts: 19
I'm willing to travel if need be, but the best I can find on a 2008 SE with auto transmission is $19,800 OTD--so right about $18,000 before tax and license. That price includes the $2,000.
I haven't got the car yet, as I'm hoping that maybe as the 09's start getting into lots, Hyundai will increase the incentives. Maybe to $2,500 AND some good financing.
Does anyone know of a dealer that could beat 18k for a 08 SE with auto trans?
Also, does anyone recall what incentives were at year end or maybe when Hyundai rolled out the 2008's?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, I live in Northern California. Thanks
  • dhollydholly Member Posts: 16
gabebalazs - I can't speak definitively to any other Fitzmall vehicle than the one I just bought, but I may be able to shed some light on your question by sharing the story of my delivery...

At delivery, the 6mi. on the odo matched the purchase info faxed to me eariler, however, when signing the paperwork I noticed a form entitled "Disclosure of Prior Vehicle Use for Dealership or Commercial Purposes and/or Acknowledgment of Disclosure by Dealer of Damage to Motor Vehicle". Uh oh, chalk one up for the negative surprise team...

The explanation offered: dealers must designate at the time of order with manufacturer whether the vehicle use is intended for demo, rental or dealer lease use (as opposed to sold as "new"). If demo, I believe they said in MD the vehicle can have as much as 20k. and still be sold as a demo. My car had been ordered rental or dealer lease use. From what I recall, the rental/lease cars are purchased by Fitz's Rental/Lease division -a separate subsidiary than the new car dealer- then 'rented' to the new car dealer for use as loaner plan vehicles in their service dept. Typically, after a set number of miles, these vehicles are then sold to the dealer's used car division and offered for sale on the used car lot.

Apparently, I was lucky in that the car I wanted and bought was destined to go the rental > loaner > used car route, but I just happened to step in before they had an opportunity to place it in service. Interestingly, the demo/rental/lease description was displayed on the vehicle manufacturer's window sticker. I have bought many, many new vehicles in several states over the past 30+ years and never seen this before. I wonder if it is a disclosure required in MD but not all other states?

To wrap up a long story, one of Fitz dealers had to purchase the vehicle from their rental/lease division before they could sell it to me and the paperwork reflects that. Am I concerned or mad about not knowing this before hand? Not really. As a business owner I understand trying to explain every tiny, little nuance -particularly details that have absolutely no impact on the end result- often serves only to confuse and put off a potential customer. In no way did I receive anything less than I expected, and in every way my questions were addressed in direct, straightforward fashion. In my mind it is a non-issue, although if it allowed them to give me an even higher discount all the better!

Frankly, I am not accustomed to giving high marks to auto dealers but the staff at Fitzgerald Hyundai in Gaithersburg, MD earns my highest A+ accolades for professionalism and friendliness. I'm not surprised to hear you had a positive experience as well. With each and every contact, they went out of their way to provide an non-confrontational purchase and unbeatable price. My only fault found was they did not pre-activate the XM radio service, no biggie. Based on my experience, I would not hesitate to return or refer them business.
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
I think people referencing "OTR", mean "On-The-Road". The way I have been reading these posts is that it means the same thing as "OTD" or "Out-The-Door". I never heard of this OTR thing and wish they would use the same acronym as 99% of the rest of the automotive world uses. Of course, that is just my read and opinion.
  • lightfootfllightfootfl Member Posts: 442
    PLEASE.... What is OTR ?
  • gabebalazsgabebalazs Member Posts: 18
I think that refers to "on the road". Other call it OTD "out the door". Basically, the prices that includes everything (tax, title etc.), the bottom line.
  • xj220xj220 Member Posts: 78
I hope people include their state's tax rate when they provide the OTD price they paid. Here in Maryland, out sales tax just got bumbed from 5 to 6%. May not sound like much, but for a $20,000 car that's an extra $200 tacked on. Good news is I've heard your trade-in value can be excluded from the purchase price, so you won't have pay as much on taxes.
  • xj220xj220 Member Posts: 78
I have purchased 2 cars from Fitzmall now...2003 Elantra in Gaithersburg, MD and 2007 Sonata in Rockville, MD. Two of the best car buying expierences I've ever had. They treated me with total respect. The one criticism I have against them, and it happened in both cases, is the salesperson's lack of knowledge in the product they're trying to sell. Sure, they know what type of engines are available, the warranty, yadda, yadda. But the small things like "does this model have fold up side mirrors?" or "can you change stations on the steering wheel controls on this particular build?" were things my salesperson thought it had but I found out it didn't. I know I sound like a spokeperson for Fitzmall when I say this, but I really believe they have some of the best deals anywhere. I do my research before I buy a car like no other, and I always seem to end up driving away in a new car from a FitzMall lot.

Speaking of Fitzmall and rebates... Just received an email from Fitzmall that Hyundai raised the rebate on 08 Sonatas to $3000, and that coupled with marked down prices on in-stock models at Fitzmall results in a total savings of $6000-7000. Ends March 3.
Where was this 4 weeks ago??? :P
Anyway, sounds like a good time to purchase an excellent value car.
  • xj220xj220 Member Posts: 78
Thanks for that info. I just checked my email and received the same notice from Fitzmall. I checked the website, though, and I didn't see any substaintial difference in price than the last time I checked, so don't be too bumed out.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
I wonder if the $3000 rebate takes effect when the rebates for February expire?
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Towne Hyundai just updated their site to change to the $3K rebate. They are selling '08 Sonatas at $1900 under invoice plus the rebate (total of $4900 under invoice).

A 4 cyl GLS with A/T and popular equipment pkg would be $14,518 plus $189 dealer fee, registration & sales tax for the buyer's home state.

'08 Santa Fes are $3900 under invoice including rebate and '08 Elantras are $3950 under incl rebate.

Makes me tempted, but the practical side says I don't need a new car now.

These prices are good through March 31.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
They really are tempting... except I don't need a new car until this fall at the earliest. I'll have to cross my fingers that there are good deals on the '09 Sonata, or the Elantra, then.
  • xj220xj220 Member Posts: 78
Incidentally, I went to the Gaithersburg Fitzmall today to get an oil change. Saw about eight '08 models and two '09 models on the lot. Seems like they took off the "Delivered Price" sticker off all of them. My guess is they're updating the prices tomorrow or Monday.
  • gofishgofish Member Posts: 24
That's right - but last night (29th) it said $2200 under invoice plus $3000 for $5200 under! I don't know if it was a mistake or something they had posted for just the last couple days of the month and then pulled to begin the new month.

Anyway I had been looking looking at auto 4 cyl 07 Sonatas back in July and Aug 07 along with last of the year accords. I almost pulled the trigger on an 07 accord SE (auto w/ 4cyl), but like many of you I was being more tempted by the "deal" than actual need. So here I find myself looking at these 08's Sonatas and they are as good as or better deals than back then.

Are 08's done rolling off the line now? When will 09's hit the lots? 09's will have the 5 speed auto available with an improved I4? .. anyone

I really wish Optimas were as easy to track down as the Sonata's with ABS/traction/ESC since they have the 5 speed transmission, I guess it is all about being an import versus the Sonata.

If anyone has a buying experience to come close to Towne or Fitzmall but closer to SW Ohio, please post.

P.S. Those of you who live near where there's an auto show, keep your eyes peeled for auto show discount coupons. Many manufacturers including Hyundai tend to offer $500 coupons (or more) at these auto shows, good on various models. Sometimes you have to get the coupon at the auto show, and other times it's just an advertised "auto show" special that applies to anyone. In the past, Hyundai has offered $500 auto show discounts on the Sonata in my town (Twin Cities). Our auto show starts next Saturday. :D I should be there then and will let you know if I find any mention of coupons or other special discounts.
