Getting the order # is first step, now GM has to accept the order to build the truck then comes the TPW. As I just found out today with my order thru GM Cust. Assistance.

Yes, Ryan, I know it has to be here before the 29th of Feb..I noted that in my post..I mentioned if delivery is on time. And no, I don't know what SOL means, and it's not necessary to tell me.

Thank you rdve, that is just what I was looking for.I know the one Hubby and I ordered in Sept (that they then raised the price on), took 3 months, but a large part of that, was that that dealer had no allocations.

You also mention being agressive..just whom would I be agressive to? My dealer, or GM?
Thank you Ray, I guess I thought that getting the order # was the acceptance..the TPW (what does that stand for?) is the acceptance?

Once they tell you the truck has been built, they might get a little testy if you call to check on the actual ship date. They will tell you to check through the dealer on the ship date. My build date was 1/4 and on 1/11 it was "awaiting a courier". The invoice date had an ETA of 1/18.

So when I called on the 18th to check on whether it had been shipped they reluctantly told me it was now being "tested".

From here on out I will just check with the dealer.

BTW: Order was placed on 11/23 for 4dr 1500 LS 2WD short box loaded.

Edmunds shows the Invoice price of the Base Silverado 1500 2WD EXT Cab SB truck ($17,263). I am trying to figure out the Invoice price of a 1500 LS 2WD Ext Cab SB with no extra options. Can anybody point me in the correct direction.

    Thanks thomasd_88@Yahoo.com

My coupon arrived todayin the mail, but it has my name on it, and says only another person who can show prove that they live in the same house can use it. It also says in small writing on the back, that the vehicle must come from stock. I'm assuming that an ordered vehicle is stock, once it arrives.
My dealer also said when I called (I thought I wasn't getting one in the mail), that if the vehicle is in in time, that I didn't even need a coupon..just needed a registration to show we have a chevy registered to us for the loyalty discount.

I had an extra certificate sent to me. gleppley@uswest.net. I will also give mine away (my hands are not so hot). But I don't know if it can be used by anyone who does not live at my address.

I was fortunate enough to place my order through the GMO plan, since my father is a retired hughes employee. Here is a breakdown of the savings:

GMO price is 17% under MSRP.
MSRP is about 12.5% above invoice.
So if you purchased a Silverado with an invoice price of $24,000 for $500 over invoice, You would save an additonal $2130 under the GMO or GMS plan, with a purchase price of $22310 compared to $24500.

Thanks, I can use the coupon.
  • sartisarti Member Posts: 16
I heard somewhere you could use more than one coupon. I got one coupon in the mail for owning a GM car, my son (whom still lives at home) recieved one and I recieved one with my GM employee discount papers. Does anyone know if you can use more than one? Thanks

Thats if my truck is here in time !!!!
  • rbrickrbrick Member Posts: 32
So how does this $500 coupn work? Is the $500 deducted from the MSRP? I ordered my 2000 EXT CAB 4WD for $99 over invoice. Would the $500 be subtracted from that price? Does the dealer HAVE to honor the coupon?
  • jimtncjimtnc Member Posts: 36
about got a deal sealed on a 2k 1500/xcab,LS-equipped, 3-dr, 2x, 5300V8, AT, alum/235wol, solar-ray windows for $24000 drive-out. Does this sound like a fair deal? Any and all responses welcome...your identity will be kept secret :-).
  • number1number1 Member Posts: 71
The dealer should honor the price, the $500 coupon is just like cash to him.
  • jimtncjimtnc Member Posts: 36
the dealer I'm working with said there was only one coupon per vehicle. Don't know if there is anything else to it thatn that.
  • jimtncjimtnc Member Posts: 36
the invoice price of the 1500LS standard equipment package, 4.3v6, standard trans, etc is $19708. Check out the GMBuypower site; pretty interesting.
  • sartisarti Member Posts: 16
I went home and read the fine print on the back of the coupon and it says only one per vehicle.
I got an order number from my dealer for my truck but when I called GM they said the order hasn't been approved for building yet. Does anyone know how long it takes for this to happen, the guy I talked to at GM says he had no idea. When it is approved will they have a build date? Thanks
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
You wont be able to use the coupon it will not be built in time. Even after you get the date they have to build it and ship it. Buy a nice lawn chair and a couple cases of beer you might be in for a long wait

Just my opinion, but I would be leary about
Southern GM. There were several posts in a SIERRA
topic where people had bad experiences with them.
They had ordered vehicles, and when they called to try and get some kind of status, they were returned their deposit for questioning the dealer.
I live in Northern Alabama, Southern GM is in South Central Tennessee and I had thought about dealing with them. I e-mailed them with some specific questions, and all I got back was a
form e-mail telling me to check out their web-site. (No kidding, where do you think I got your e-mail address?) Although, there are some people that I see around work with vehicles purchased at Southern GM. I don't know them personally, though. They obviously had luck. Maybe if you buy off the lot it is a good experience. I had thought about ordering a T/A in 1995 and of course, they wanted to screw me with the trade-in. That has been my experience with no haggle dealers (like Autobytel), not just Southern GM.

Also I think they will look for $1000 deposit, which I see a lot of other people in Edmunds Town Hall not having to put down that much at their dealer.

Just giving anybody that cares to listen, my expereince with these people.

    haven't posted in while, but....

I finally (or luckily) got an order number. I had
ordered a 1500 Ext Cab, Z71, mostly everything else on 22 DEC. I called the truck manager a couple of times, but no luck. I called again today and he said my truck was not accepted by GM. We talked for a few minutes and I finally asked why it did not get accepted. It was because of the WOL tires I had selected. I guess GM did not have enough to go around. The stupid tires were holding up my truck! Needless to say my truck is now on order with blackwall tires. Who knows what the problem may be if I wait until next week (not gonna take the chance). When the truck arrives I'll see if I can get the dealer to swap the tires (and I'll pay the difference or so). Else I'll find a tire dealer to swap with me.

No TPW yet. Probably find out next week.

    Rob
  • number1number1 Member Posts: 71
I upgraded to the WOL tires (for an extra $295). Placed the order on 11/23 and the truck was built on 1/4. It is currently in transit and should arrive next week hopfully.

I just leased my new Silverado on the 17th (see #544). I did not have any GM vehicle before, but received the $500 coupon yesterday! After calling the GM hotline and my dealer, I was told as long as the truck deal is between 01/04 and 02/29, I can redeem the $500 bonus. I can certainly use some extra cash.

Some people talked about extended service contract. I am glad I did not purchase it from the dealer for $1,200 (5yr/60,000). With this coupon, I can choose among the 5yr/60,000 contract, free regular maintenance (don't know for how long) and $500 cash. At this level, the service contract seems more attractive, but I am still leaning towards the cash so I can put a nice CD changer in.

BTW, I am very impressed with the truck so far.

Does anyone know when they begin building the 2001 Silverados. I read somewhere it is June. That seems very early to me, but I think they arrive in about late Aug or Sept. When could one first order a 2001? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  • afs93afs93 Member Posts: 30
I was told that GM has the model cut off at the end of July.

I was going to order a regular cab 4WD last year (I changed my mind & ordered a extented cab), I went to my dealer around that time & was told if I waited one week I could have a 2000 model.

    Hope that helps you.

Fully agree with Paul. Stay away from Southern GM unless you want a frustration filled buying experience. First, they do demand a $1000.00 down payment. Then they sit on it for months claiming they can't get an allocation. Of course if they can collect interest on a bunch of deposits they can make a little exra profit. As stated before, if you question them on the status of your order their arrogance becomes unbelievable. There are a number of outstanding GMC and Chevrolet dealers within easy driving distance of North Alabama and South Central Tennessee who can make your vehicle purchase a much nicer experience than Southern GM.

you know them well Steve? and had the bad luck of attempting to buy thru them. If so then Tracie has just been exposed for the unscrupulous ways of internet selling, remind anyone of someone else who has sold on this site (aside from the ONE satisfied recent customer?)

Hey Roger! your not alone after all! Same game different location.

Southern GM, are they for real? The truth is that WE are for real. The bottom line is that you cannot have a better experience anywhere in the automotive industry. The price (especially the out the door price) WILL NOT BE MATCHED! Also it would not surprise me if the negative remarks were posted by other dealers. They have been trying to hurt our business since 1993. Can't say that I blame them, we have really hurt them. On the other hand, you can't please everyone. But think about it like this-satisfied customers wouldn't get back on Edmunds(they found what they were looking for). We have sold thousands of vehicles here and 99% were completely satisfied

Since you sell GMC trucks and not Chevrolet, and your profile says you're SHOPPING(?) for a GMC (even though you have a lot full of them), why don't you just scoot on back to the GMC site. But before you go to conspire with your boy John on how to make an extra buck, here's a couple of points: Your price can be matched, because I did it. I'm driving a 2000 Chevrolet LT with every conceivable option, and I'm 110% satisfied with it, and the dealership I bought it from. I would be driving a GMC except for the experience with your dealership, and NO, I don't think GMC is superior to Chevrolet. In fact, I have yet to find anyone who can explain why the GMC is more expensive than Chevy. But, that's another story. And no, I'm not another dealer out to hurt your business, just a P.O.'d customer your bosses tried messing with. Your last point: a satisfied customer comes back to Edmunds for the very reason most of us are here now: to exchange information with which to better enjoy the vehicles we purchased from reputable dealers. So, 'nuff said. Subject closed. You live your fairy tales; I'll live mine. Bye, Bye, Hon.

Seems you struck a nerve with a couple of people, but I go along with your experience, it says a lot about internet sales & the way some sales people approach it. You obviously got burned by Southern & rightfully posted your experience for others to make their own determination as whether to use them or not as this forum is set up to do.

I really didn't think that this forum was set up for the purpose of SALES PEOPLE to be touting their wares, since I have now seen 2 sales people advertising internet sales here & only one positive experience (Kyle/WERKING) posted from it.

If Snook'ums is willing to play silly games here, how serious can she and Southern GM be in giving you the proper attention and COURTESY when buying a vehicle. Obviously Sweetie Pie has time on her hands (slow car sales at Southern?) to register a new user profile for me in post 592. Of course the attention to detail shown in that registry is about what you'd get as one of Poopsie's customers. Hey Tracie Doll, you stop advertising on this board and I'll stop telling the truth about your company. What a deal.
  • tratra Member Posts: 4
Edmunds is a site to discuss product, price vehicles and talk about dealerships who will give you a great price and hassle free experience. My company is one of the front runners in internet sales and the way that ALL dealerships will sell vehicles in the future. You Mr Stephen Torok(petriheil) came to our dealership because of our price and solid reputation. The fact is, that we chose not to sell you a vehicle because you were rude with our employees and were not pleasant to deal with. Customers like you deserve to pay retail. It is unfortunate that you feel bashing a salesman, who is merely trying to make a living, will make you feel better about yourself. I will ensure that she will not advertise on this site anymore and request that you make better use of your time. Thank you for your consideration and professionalism.

    I agree, blah, blah, blah

My 2 cents. What ever happened to "the customer is always right"? If a sales organization cannot handle one unpleasant customer, why should other potential customers take the risk of a similar experience when there are plenty of other dealers. You don't want to break a sweat to make a buck, that's actually your loss.
  • petriheilpetriheil Member Posts: 19
You're right, Mr. Nunley. If a customer considered seeking legal advice for the manner in which his order was being handled, I'd probably end my association with him also. In reviewing my file of correspondence with your company, I find no trace of rudeness on my part. Disappointment, yes. However, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I'm sorry your sales person was caught in the crossfire, as my argument is not with her (in spite of her childish setup of a phony user profile on me). I will take you at your word on no further advertisement on this board and will, in turn, make better use of my time and consider this matter closed.

NOW YOU HAVE ME ON HIS SIDE IT SEEMS LIKE YOU REALLY HAVE TO DEFEND YOUR DEALERSHIP IF YOU KNOW YOUR RIGHT LEAVE IT AT THAT DONT HARP ON IT. WHATS DONE IS DONE OBVIOUSLY FROM OUR (ALL PEOPLE ON THIS POST) WE CAN TELL YOU NEED TO DEFEND YOURSELF YOU MUST BE UNDER ALOT OF SCRUTINY.

If anyone is in the market for a new chevy in the Houston Tx. area, I would highly recommend that
you give Bob Blackmon (fleet Mgr.) a call, he is with Mike Hall Chevrolet, and he gave the best
buying experience posible, $200.00 over inv.
answered all questions, returned all phone calls.
I hate to hear experiences like what was stated above, so I thought I would give the dealership
I used a plug. Let me know if anyone else has had
a similar experience with these guys. I spoked with many others, waste of time however.

    Good Luck, Greg

Does anyone know of a reputable dealer in the St.Louis area that would be willing to go 2-300 over invoice. I have been to 3 different dealerships & they are all asking about the same price which is darn close to list!

I am looking for a new 2000 4wd extended cab Silverado LT....

Alright Kyle we know you are a satisfied customer of you know who but what's your cut on drumming up sales for this guy? LOL

Watch out Boone, Kyle's up to something, but he is the one satisfied customer of ............, tell him to split his commission with ya. LOL

You also can check out the various web sites for purchasing vehicles & to compare prices (they actually do the leg work for you, you just tell them what you want)and they will find a dealer in your area. I actually faxed my truck specs w/Edmunds price sheet attached to 15 different dealers I was willing to travel to for a price match or best offer before settling on who to buy from.

I, for one, would like to see this board open to all who want to post on it. Dealers or salesmen or salesladies are privy to information that most of use do not have available. If someone had an unpleasant experience with a dealer or GM, they can post it here and the dealership or GM can post their side if they wish. Southern has a good web site and seems to have good prices - someone may want to give them a try and can post their experience here. For keeping the board open and positive.
  • number1number1 Member Posts: 71
I have no problem with recommendations being relayed in the forum, but please don't torture me with the rhetoric from salesman trying to sale their wares. It has no value to me which and is on par with spamming.

Any advertisers that post in a forum deserve to get abused.
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
Number1,I go along with you, I do not want to be conducting business on this forum nor is that the intended purpose of this forum,

Sorry Denn777 but do you really think that GM is going to respond to problems on this forum, look at all the complaints that are racking up concerning the Vibration problems! Have you once seen an acknowledgement of or a response to ANY of these problems from GM? NO! and you won't, they are not interested nor do I believe they even know this forum exists.
We have now been approached by 2 salespeople thru this forum & both say they can get you this and that, when in reality there has only been one confirmed buyer who is happy. For that matter the only one who has recieved the product advertised.
Leave the sales outside of this forum, pass on the good dealer info if you want to help someone trying to buy but NO SALES PITCH here please!

    My 2 cents.

I live in Missouri and was wondering where the best place to go to get a good deal on a chevrolet pickup. I am looking for a chevy silverado ls with a V-8 engine, automatic, and Z-71 package. If anyone can tell me what they paid for a truck similar to this I would really appreciate it.
  • rshornsbyrshornsby Member Posts: 200
Looks like you are holding down the fort fairly well. Good for you. I agree likewise. Everything turned out fine for my wife, now it is on to finding a decent sales on a Chevy 3/4 ton,
4x4. Maybe GM will be able to build a few in Feb. then constrain until March, etc....Time will tell. Have a nice day....

Exhilarating, .. that is the only word I can think of to describe the feeling I had driving my 1500 4-dr 2WD LS with ride control and many upgrades. I have read posts describing the sedan-like ride, but you have to drive it to believe it. This is a very good truck.

No vibration problems noticed at any speed yet. I upgraded ($295 option) to WOL tires. The tires were General tires. I also upgraded to aluminum rims.

You must close the doors firmly, otherwise, you may hear wind noise. This may not be required as the seals get broken in.

The stereo is unbelievable. GM did a great job designing it for optimum sound.

For those of you that are waiting, it is definitely worth it.

BTW: I drove it off the lot 22 days after it was built.

With all due respect to Kyle and his ability to get his truck from this dealer, I tryed too.I waited 7 weeks and they could not get an order number, was told a multitude of good reasons but the simple fact was they could not get me a truck.I went over there last Tuesday and got my $1000.00 deposit back. Went the same day and placed order with another dealer, they called yesterday with an order number after just 1 week, just as promised.I now truly have something to look forward to.I actually saved $250.00 and got
a free undercoating with the new deal.Coincident-ally I ordered the same truck you are looking for.So based on my experiences with this dealer
(BE CAREFUL) after they get your money your salesman might be hard to contact.
    GOOD LUCK
Kyle what exactly is your loyalty to this dealer. They have stung several of us.
    (HAVE MERCY)

Undercoating is not required or recommended...at least that is what it says on the brochure.

DEALER SAID THEY DO THIS AUTOMATICALLY TO ALL NEW VEHICLES COULD BE A PLOY TO MAKE ANOTHER $86.00 STILL SAVED $250.00 ALTHOUGH I WILL NOW ASK THEM ABOUT THE NECESSITY AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT NOT RECOMMENDED.

    Gary,
Very good news that you driving that new truck and it more than meets your expectations. If we hear about gas shortages in Phoenix, we will know it's because you are driving around town too much. Keep us posted. BTW, no word on mine from the dealer, so guess I'll call again today.
