I wanted to order a 2000 Silverado 2500 LS 4x4 with full options. Dealer in Spokane(Auto-By-Tel) representative wanted $900 over his invoice. Which was $6ll over any on-line buying service that I have found. Then requested a $500 deposit to guarantee that I would take the truck. In reality I think it was to guarantee that I would not go to a different dealer, when he could not come up with the truck until after he got their "allocation" the following month. Then possibly wait another 4 to 6 months for it to come up on GM's build computer. Stupid business.
Still haven't heard from anybody about dealers in our area. Also does anybody know about R6M required in New Jersey when ordering chevy trucks only pertains to Jersey for $127.00? Thank You in advance for any response.
Did you have a trade-in? If so, did you get a good price for that as well? If you did, then you did very well, because the 4-doors are hot items in low supply (for now). -powerisfun
No, did not have a trade in. In fact, I'd originally ordered a 3rd door, but changed my mind when it arrived. Without hesitation, they took my second order for the 4th door with $300 over invoice. I don't know where you're from, but I would definitely give them a try if you're looking for a vehicle in the Northern Cal area.
I just ordered my 2000 ls quadcab with the 5.3 and tow package. I live in Lawton OK. and the dealer here wouldn't go less than $1000 over invoice, but about 50 miles north there is a dealer called Knipplemier and they sell all (EVERY) truck at invoice!! plus if you carry Farm Bureau insurance, you get an additional $500 off. WOW, I got mine at 500 under invoice and my guy claims every dealer can make the same deal if they want.
I plan to order in a couple days a 2000, 2wd, Silverado,1500 LS,ext.cab, 5.3, 3.73 axle, Z82 tow package, G80 locking diff, ZX3 ride control suspension, K47 air cleaner, PF9 cast wheels,QCC blackwall 255/70,power bucket seats, deep tint, fog lamps,pewter/gray with 92D Medium Gray interior.
I'm not sure about the suspension option. We tow a 5,000 lb open race car trailer. A test drive in a Z85 hd suspension (2wd) was too harsh when empty.
Has anyone experienced the $320 suspension?
Are the blackwall 255/70's all General brand? Would the raised letter 255/70's get me Firestone?
I ordered a 00 LT Z71,Extended cab 4th door and am paying 500 over invoice, I got trailering package, locking diff, and the P265/75r-16 all Terrain WOL
Help! On 9/14/99 I ordered a 1500 silverado,5300 V8,3.73 axle,HD suspensio and trailering package, sliding rear window and all terrain tires for 100 over invoice. The dealer says he still does not have an allocation. Is this possible? Am I being snowed? Should I look for a new dealer(in MA) or wait...I need the truck and cannot wait forever. Thanks for the advice!
Thats basically the crap that they gave me... I ordered in late July and didnt get an allocation until late October...I finally went in and complained heavily...2 days later..Allocation. I dont know if it was a coincidence or not but my truck should be in around first week of December.
I have allocations for 3 and 4 door Silverados. Will place orders at $300 over invoice for 3 doors and $500 over invoice for 4 doors. I can have them delivered anywhere in the continental USA.

I am new to all of this. Am I correct in assumming that the dealer retains the Dealer Holdback in addition to the amount paid over the invoice amount ? i.e. when someone states that "I payed $500 over invoice does the dealer make $500 plus the holdback amount ( in this case 3% of MSRP ) ? Thanks for the info.
You got it. The dealer gets 3% of msrp as holdback....not when he sells you the vehicle, but at month or quarter end. As you can see in the dealership, he has a lot of investment and expense to cover with his holdback. If he runs a good ship, the holdback is enough to prosper. If he has a sloppy ship, the holdback is not enough. I give them $100 over on a popular vehicle. Watch out for extra charges, like ad fees and documentation fees.....just ask them if they do that before you negotiate from invoice.

Well I complained to the manager and although they say they still don't have an allocation they have found a truck(it has the important options) but it is located out of state. If the truck were brought here it would arrive with about 500 miles on it...just in time for an oil change! I'd still get the same deal, $100 over invoice, but 500 miles????? I could order elsewhere and wait..for____?This experience has really ruined the excitement over buying a new truck. anyone have any ideas?
To cjanecky, I bought a 99 Silverado LT Ext-cab 2WD in March 99. I didn't notice the noise right off, but probably got worse. I complained to the dealer, his answer was "what do you expect, it's a truck". I had to go over his head and speak with his supervisor. He checked into it and told me that Chevrolet issued a service bulletin on this problem. They replaced both seals and glass. I am happy to report that the wind noise is gone. any other questions, you can email me at daclark1@email.msn.com good luck with your dealer.
That is right. the 3-door will be extinct. It will really drop in price too! If you are smart & wait to or one like I did (4-door model) your ok.
I pity someone who has the 3-door model, when it comes time to trade it in (sucker). You know all those blood sucking car salespeople will point that out before your feet have a chance to touch the blacktop!
I ordered a 00 Z-71, extended cab, locking differential, etc. etc. on 27 July for 500 over. I was told by the dealer that he had a "start build date" of 25 Oct. Still haven't seen my truck. Has anyone else waited this long.
For you Massachusetts buyers I just bought a Silverado 1500 Ls With Z71 off road package, Autotrack 4-wheel drive,5300 V-8,CD/Cassette,extended cab,Trailering package, etc. for $38.73 above invoice from a dealer in Danvers. I thought it was a gimmick but it turned out to be a great deal & I'm lovin the truck!!!
I need to know where to go online for internet price quote. Can I get a better price from an internet company. I'm in central CA and the local dealers wont even talk to me for less then $800 over invoice. One quote was for $1800 over invoice. I'm want to purchase a 4 DR '00 LS EX cab, buckets & leather, fog lamps & tent,Charcoal grey with med. grey int. I only wont to pay a few hundred over invoice. Thanx in advance for the suggestions.
murton, first of all, for all those options, you might as well get an LT. second, many posts here indicate that parts of california are horrible for invoice shopping. i'm on the east coast and the standard here seems to be about $500 over. i've heard that $800 over in california is doing pretty well, unless you know someone. there's a post in this topic, number 351 where the guy says:

now, if anyone can help me find a dealer that will sell me a '00 four door ls z71 at invoice and take my trade at top dollar...THEN we'll be talkin'. till then, i'll just keep dreamin'
I live in Monroe, La. I have been looking at both the GMC and Chevrolet Extra-cab 2 wheel drives. My dealers have told me that as of today November 12th, that the GMC 4 door will start build dates in January as soon as they are back from the Holidays and they should hit the lots the last week of Feb. My Chevrolet dealer said that he talked to the Chevy Corp. Big Wigs today and that they were suppost to get 14 of them next week BUT that they had a NOISE problem in the first ones that came off the line and that they were going to redo the design and start prodution in Jan. to hit lots the first week of March. The Chevy Dealer also told me that The Silverado 3-Door will not be made after December and that the new builds after the first of the year will ALL be 4- doors and it will not be an add-on. It will be standard. Now I have a question to the Y2K Silverado owners. Does anybody know if there is really that much difference in the 15 horespower gain in adding the 5.3 over the 4.8? I hate to pay $688.00 for only 15 more horses. If you have any feedback on this let me know here or at DavisCRT@aol.com. Thanks.
My local dealer says she will sell to me at $200.00 over invoice, but that the invoice prices online are not all correct. I do not know if they are correct or not but I guess I will find out when I do place the order. (I can't decide is I want leather or not. Or on the 4.8 od 5.3. And haveing problems with color selection too.) Try Priceline.com. I find there invoice to be the easiest to go through and pick out what you want. Then after you are finished you can place a bid for whatever you want to pay over invoice and they will search all the dealerships with your price and let you know if someone takes your offer. The only reason i am not bidding on one through them is because they do not service Louisiana or Mississippi so I would have to travel too far to pick it up. Good Luck.
Thanxx for all of the the advice. If it is true GM will only be making the 4 DR after the first of the year, I may just wait a couple of months to purchase. though I do need a new truck now. This is a very informative forum. Keep the advice coming.
I'm trying to locate a dealer who has the best deal. I went to a dealer in Grand Prairie and the salesman told me that the lowest price he can give is $1000 over invoice for a 4-door Silverado LS 4WD shortbed. I guess that was my first mistake: talking with a salesman and not the manager. I explained to him that the dealer is making money off of the dealer holdback. I know I have some time because of the production date being pushed back.
Fourth door will probably be the only ext cab you can buy once they finish the changeover. GM has given us a clue in that the ordering system now has the 4th door in the MSRP for the base.
Priceline may not be the best deal if you use all the info available to you. They do some work for you, but charge you $50 and the dealer $200, so who do you think pays the $250.....you do.
Invoice is invoice, but sometimes the dealer may have a more current price than the net source...so check the dates. And watch for adding on...like advertising and documentation fees (they are profit builders that some dealers don't do).
i've been doing research on a '00 silverado for awhile now. the best resource i've found for online pricing is www.carwizard.com check it out. you can "build" your own vehicle on-line. it gives you the base price, individual option(s) (packages) pricing for both invoice and msrp. by line, by option. i took the printout to a dealer and he was stunned when i told him that msrp was an average markup of about 12.5% - and then showed it to him. as far as accuracy i can tell you this: the msrp numbers on carwizard were right on with the stickers. as far as the invoice numbers...there's only one person that knows that (your dealer) and good luck on getting it from them.
There are several ways a dealer realizes profit or markup when selling a vehicle:
1) The difference between dealer invoice and MSRP is profit if you pay it. 2) Dealer incentive is a second way profit is realized. The incentive varies on different vehicles. For example, It may amount to $6,000 for A Lincoln Town Car. 3) The dealer also realizes profit from holdback. Again, this will vary depending on the vehicle. In the case of a Chevrolet, it is 3% of MSRP after subtracting freight costs from MSRP. 4) a 4th way the dealer realizes profit is through dealer incentives provided by the manufacturer. They may be in the form of quarterly or even monthly incentives and on certain vehicles. Only the dealer knows, so ask. Frequently, salesmen don't even know.
Don't forget that there may be manufacturers' rebates applicable to various vehicles depending on whether they are good sellers.
I suggest that you go to web site "edmunds.com" and you will find all you need to know when buying. I will guarantee you a better price when buying if you do your homework first. If you don't heed the advice, I will guarantee you will pay much more for it. Good Luck.
$1,000 over invoice in the DFW area is unreasonable. My deal in Abilene was at invoice ($26,062) with offers from $100 below to $300 above invoice. The one advantage, it is a loaded LT and there is more wiggle room with more extras added. Normally one must deal with sales people, not sales managers. In this "new" dance you would do well to let them do the bidding and compare dealerships to pit them against one another. It is not good nor ethical to reveal numbers to competitors though.
They insist on the advertising fee. I simply said I would not pay it and did not have to. You must pay: agreed upon price, sales tax (6%), tags destination charge and for a two year inspection sticker (In Texas.)
I found KBB and Edmunds price listings to be accurate and matched with the dealer's numbers. I took delivery October 8.
In 1999 the bottom line on a well equip LS vs. LT was not worth buying the LS, but I wanted to wait for the 4th door. In 1999 the inv differed about 600-700 which was worth it considering you would be getting leather, etc. In checking out the 00 appears there now is a big cost difference. Someone said there is more $$ to play with, but still appears at invoice about 1000 - 1200 more.
It depends on which one you like better. I think that the Silverado looks much nicer then the GMC. I spoke to a man who works at the Oshawa, Ontario Truck Plant, and he said that the only difference was that GMC wants to be more upscale. Both trucks come off the same line.
As far as the engine, it depends on which model you will select? I order a 00' Silverado LT X/C (4-dr) 4WD. It is about 500+ lbs heavier then the R/C, so I order the 5300. I think that it will be well worth the extra $$$. My salesman told me that there is only about 1 mpg difference betwwen the two.
LT/LS difference, the leather bucket seats in the LT model are worth about $700.00 alone.
Has anyone priced the invoice diff. between a somewhat loaded LS [other then leather] an a LT. What would the dealer actually sell the unit to you? The invoices I've checked, Ed m., KBB, show about 1200 diff. Would rather have a LT, but not for 1200 more. I realize the LT comes std. with the 5300 eng, auto trans, auto trac, and some other goodies, but even though I'm going to order these options and more, is it worth it? When pricing 1999 models the diff I was looking at was about 650. Dealer told me that there was some disparity in the leases---sounds fishy---what do you think? 4door, 4wd. Thanks, Doug
The leather seats in the LT are worth about $700 US. They are heated & have power lumber/back boster controls that the LS (even leather) doesn't have. Is it worth the price difference? You have to decide that!
The canadian models (LS & LT) are $1815 cdn about($915 US) & the 5300 is not included in the LT model.
all - ordered my '00 LS Z71 Ext Cab 4-dr today. all told i paid about $500 over invoice if you don't consider my trade. i dealt with greg stancill at montgomery chevy in louisville, ky and you can too if you live in the continental united states. i'm in south carolina, but greg will deliver my new truck to me and take my trade away and that's included in the $500 over invoice. he's been prompt, professional and extremely easy to deal with in our several emails and two phone calls. outside of having my truck right now, i don't think i could ask for more. email me for details.
Can anyone out there in Texas answer a quick question for me? Here in Oklahoma, everyone is complaining about the high tax/tag costs on new vehicles. Tax is 3.25% of factory delivered price (minus delivery), tag is 1.25% plus registration fees (minimal). What does it cost (taxes) to buy and tag a new vehicle in Texas?
I AM LOOKING TO PURCHASE A 2000 CHEVY LT 4DR EXT. CAB 4WD. THE DEALERS I AM TALKING TO SAY THEY CAN ORDER ONE NOW, BUT ARE NOT WILLING TO GIVE OUT ANY PRICING UNLESS I'M RIGHT READY TO SIGN ON THE DOTTED LINE. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME AN IDEA WHAT AMOUNT OVER INVOICE WOULD BE CONSIDERED A GOOD DEAL. MY THINKING IS 500.00 T0 750.00 DOLLARS. ALSO I WOULD LIKE A TWO TONE COLOR, BUT FROM ALL THE INFORMATION I READ AND WHAT THE DEALER SAYS IT'S NOT AVAIBLE ON THE LT. I WOULD GET AN LS IF THEY OFFERED THE SAME SEATING WITH HEAT, MEMORY, MORE POSITIONS ETC. BUT IT'S NOT OFFERED. WHAT GIVES? THE GMC OFFERS IT BOTH WAYS.
I got a 99 Z71 ls for 25488. msrp was 31342 It has minor hail damage. A Dallas dealer has Z71's @ 5K off msrp. I gave up on the fourth door. Lawrance Hall in Abilene will order for about $300 over invoice.
I just e-mailed Kyle about what he was told on a build date for his truck. My 4dr was to be built on 11-18, but the computer shows the order was pulled with a new date to be assigned. I've heard lots of stories and do not know what to believe on delivery time. Any help ? Thanks clinton2701@aol.com
Just picked up my 2500 4WD LT off a dealer lot. Very hard to find 3/4 tons in Northern California. It's the 2500 HD, LT package, 4.10 gears, locking diff, and tow package. Paid $31,150 and am very happy with the truck. I now have a 10,000 lb hauler for my race car and am ready to go. Have fun!
It's true you order the same items on the LS as on the LT except, the LT leather package has different items, such as the the std. buckets have heated seats, memory, and the power portion has more adjustment. I beleive thigh and power bostler.

not a bad profit on a 30,000 truck
