I have a 99 F250 SD CC SB 4x4 V10 3.73LS. I get between 11 and 12mpg in town (Cincinnati) and average around 15 highway (4 passengers to KY/TN border). If you haven't ordered yet, I highly recommend Kings Ford at the Kings Automall, south of Kings Island off I-71. Ask for Greg Keene (sales manager) and tell him Robb recommended them. They really treated me well. As for the truck, 10,000 miles in 5 months and I still get excited every time I get behind the wheel. Good Luck.

I just got a quote to order a 250 SD, Lariat, SC, V10, 3.73, auto, short bed. Dealer quoted me $200 over invoice but said the wait could be over 100 days. Don't know if I can wait that long so I am considering a used 99 with 14K miles on it that is being sold by an individual. It's configured exactly like the new one I got a quote on. He's asking $23500 for the used vehicle. Any opinions out there as to whether this is a good deal?
  • t46000t46000 Member Posts: 8
What octane are you using to get such good MPG? I am leaning towards the PSD because I don't want to use 93 to get that mileage. If you are using 87 let me know. I am from Cincy also.

Dave the delivery date could of been set back
because of the change, I really don't know. My salesman is new in the buisness, and when I asked
for the vin# he said oh' its to early for that.My
wife called him today and did get a vin# and DORA.
of witch I just learned of. Now I hope to find out
when my order was received by Ford motor co. when
I placed my order, it was for a 99. Sometime around July I was told that it would end up being
a 2000. As for the check from Ford, I asked him
about it when I read it on this site. He told me
that they were delayed in getting the paper work
to Ford, but I should be getting it. So far nothing. That is why I think my order didn't get
sent when we made our deal. When this truck comes
in, I should get it for dealer cost! what do you
    think?

is it true if you order xlt lariet pkg your only interior leather seating color is the prarie tan for the f250sd?
  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113
    rflint,

That was true last year, but I think it's changed for 2000. In 1999, the Lariat interiors were tan. If you got the 2-tone exterior paint, the bottom strip was tan for the Lariats and silver for the XLTs. I took a quick look at the Kelley Blue Book site www.kbb.com. They have some of the color combos for 2000 listed. If you get 2-tone paint, they appear to have several color combos for the Lariat, including bottom strips that are black, gold and something metallic. I believe they discontinued the Prairie Tan exterior paint.

As for the interior, they only list one color called Parchment. I have no idea what color that is. Although that is the only interior color listed, there is a reference note that says it is not available with a couple of the exterior paint options. Also some of the paint options say you have a choice of interior color option *H or 2, which also implies that there is more than one interior color. A local dealer should be able to bring it up on his computer and let you know what options are available.

    Langra,

What is the difference between the quote on the new truck and the price of the used truck? Why is the guy selling it? It might just be because he expected better mpg or it's more truck than he bargained for, but I'd ask for service records to make sure it wasn't a lemon. Also remember that they did make some changes for 2000. The V-10 will have either 290-310 hp, compared to 275 for the 99 and it will have 425 torque compared to 410.

A price like that is pretty good, almost too good.
Here on the front range of the Rockies a 97 with twice the miles would be advertised at a minimum of 3,000 more than 23,500. If there is no problems, Major wreck reconsruction, no power, (bad engine), It sounds like one hell of a deal for a 99 V-10, SD.
    Good luck

i took a 2k f350 lariet v10 for a ride last night at the dealership ride was incredible!what im looking for is the f250sd lariet model.can anyone tell me if the 5.4 eng is enough for this truck or would i be better off going for the v10.i will not be using the veh for work and won't be pulling any trailer in the near future.also what kind of gas mileage can i expect to get out of each eng.looking to place order this week with my dealer.just not sure what size eng to go for. thanks
  • todlaketodlake Member Posts: 48
I'm using regular unleaded 87 octane. Usually fill up at UDF or Marathon. I keep my foot relatively light. What part of town? You'll see my truck mainly on the east side. Dark Wedgewood Blue with a matching Swiss CH cap. License plate TO D LAKE.
  • crazyelviscrazyelvis Member Posts: 216
I ordered the 2k 250SD Lariat Crew Cab V-10 373ls. I have heard negative things about the 5.4L engine. The comments have ranged from not enough power for the truck to actual mechanical problems.I have a 97 F150 right now with the 4.6 engine. Never a problem but speaking directly about the 5.4 I can not do. I did drive both when I was test driving and I just liked the V10 power better. I don't have anything real large to pull other than a Jet Ski and a 20' Ranger Bass Boat. I pull them right now with my 150 but wanted the Crew Cab for space. I also like the 2k V10 power increase to 300-310 HP. I hear no decrease in milage with the HP increase. I don't feel that the 2-3 MPG is going to affect me too much. I want the POWER!!! ha ha. Hope this helps.

  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113
I've heard the mpg difference between the 5.4L and the V-10 in the Superduties is only 1-2mpg, depending on your driving habits. The average hwy mpg that I've been hearing for the V-10 with the 3.73 is 13-14, with an occasional 15. I've heard 14-15 for the 5.4L with the same setup with an occasional 16.

The V-10 with the 4.30 will be in the 11.5-12.5 range on the hwy.

    Langra,

If it's a 4wd with ESOF and was produced in the spring of 98, you might also want to verify that there were no problems with the ESOF or that the issue was corrected. Early in the production process, they had problems with the ESOF. They changed the factory production to correct the problem, but several thousand trucks were produced before they made the change. If it's a 4wd, make sure you shift on the fly a few times. I took delivery of my truck in October 98 and the ESOF works fine.
  • langralangra Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the input. It isn't the 4WD and my mechanic gave it a clean bill of health. I've got him down to $22,500 so I'm probably going to bite. I've now had 3 dealers tell me they were worried about being able to order the V10. Seems only 10% of the mix have gas engines and Ford is putting the V10 in the Excursion which I hear is making it difficult to get a 250 with the V10. I'm worried this deal looks almost too good to be true, but at least it's still under warranty.

Has anybody out there had problems with vibration in their 1999 f-250SD supercab SB? Starting at 60 miles an hour the truck starts to shake and the faster you go the worse it shakes. This is the secodn f-250 I have had, I had the same problem with a previouse 1999 f-250 and after long deliberation the ford dealearship gave me a new truck. At first the shake wasn't that bad but the older the truck gets the worse the shake gets. I have had five sets of tires, two sets of rims, and ten balances from differen't places on the new truck alone.(I had at least six sets of tires on the truck they took back) Still no matter what I do the truck shakes. I am already talking to a lawyer nad I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem?

I have 5,500 miles on my '99 SD CC V10 3.73 Auto 4x4 Lariat. Using the on-board gas computer I get a reading between 15-16 MPG at 65 MPH on a flat road. A tank of gas without any freeway driving yields about 11 MPG. Towing my 10,000 lb boat/trailer I get about 9 MPG at 55 MPH (flat road). Overall, if I let the computer average all my driving over 5-6 tanks of gas (which I would say is 70% city, 20% freeway, and 10% towing), I get about 10.5 MPG.

If you look at my numbers you can see it's all how you spin it. If someone asks me what kind of mileage do I get on my truck, I could respond anywhere between 9 and 16 MPG and I wouldn't be lying. For example, when someone driving a Dodge diesel says "Whoa, that thing must be a gas guzzler," I respond, "Not really, I get about 16 MPG!"

I would think with the delay you've encountered, and the $500 from Ford, you should get the truck for invoice, if not below. What kind of price did you have worked out with the dealer back in April?

Have you gotten any kind of update on build/delivery date, either from your dealer or the VOPC line?

I just got another recall notice on my 99 SD CC SWB 4x4. The other recalls were for the cruise control and the rear brake protector.
Todays recall said that there is a fuel leak that is higher than allowed by regulation. It doesn't say, but I think it only leaks in a wreck. The recall is for all 99 Super Duties with short beds built before June 4,1999. And the ones built before March 21, 1999 need more improvements than the others.
    The recall number is 99S11

Dave, we are tradeing in our 95 Ford Explorer, and were in the ball park of about
$500 over invoice. We have someone who has been
interested in buying it, and maybe I could make an
even better deal selling it outright. I did call
the VOPC and it was sent out 8-28-99 with a destination date of 9-17-99. I hope it comes in
sooner, because there is a nascar winston cup race
in Loudon NewHampshire the 19th. I will need to
get the fithwheel hitch installed and elec brakes
    wired. That's cutting it close.

Ordered a 2000 F250 Super Duty Crew Cab 4x2 Lariat V10 3.73 limited slip on Aug. 16. According to VPOC it is to be built week of Sept 27 and delivered week of Oct. 11. About 8 weeks total. I got a price of 27,800 including tax (750) and destination (640). Without those added the cost of the vehicle was 26,410. Does your price include tax and destination charge?? I see that mine has the V10 and is a crew cab where your quote is for a super cab and a 5.4. The one thing about the 5.4 is that I have heard it is underpowered for a truck this size. The MPG between the V10 and the 5.4 is 1-2 mpg difference. That is why I went with the V10. Also have heard of problems with the 5.4 on other discussion groups in the edmunds forum. What part of the country are you in??? If anywhere near Florida I can reccomend a great dealership and salesman. See ya around.

I got my 2K F250 SD on 8-12, and have 1400 miles on it. It's a V10, long bed, SC w/4.30 LS, auto trans., 2WD. I've never had a vibration problem as some have noted (I've been up to 90), and the mileage is typical 10-12 mpg depending on variables. Power if FANTASTIC & smooth. I hear a lot of complaints on the slow delivery of ordered vehicles---I originally ordered a 1999 on 2-9-99, and was told to order a 2000 in May. The FORD district manager put a V10 on hold for my order at the KTP just to make sure it got made. Be patient; as others have said before me: "It's worth the wait".

I have noticed that, on my 1999 V10 XLT F250 CC 4x4 SWB, etc., etc., the red reflectors on the insides of the two front doors have empty light bulb sockets underneath. I have heard that on the Lariats these are "convenience lights" and that some XLT's have the sockets and no lamps, but that the sockets are connected. Does anybody know what lamps go in there? I know that this won't turn my seats into leather, but it will make my XLT a little more like a Lariat :-)

    Thanks

just placed my order this afternoon on a f250 s/d5.4 lt eng lariet 3:73rt.The dealer told me it was an 8-13 wk wait,This is going to be a long wait, I hope i can last that long. can't wait!!!!
  • mayfordmayford Member Posts: 19
I have been waiting since the middle of May. Still don't have a build date yet. Clean and un-scheduled. I have been seeing a few Y2K's on some lots. If I don't get a build date this week I will go looking for one off of a lot. I am a little PO'ed to say the least.
  • crazyelviscrazyelvis Member Posts: 216
I ordered on Aug. 16 and have a build date week of sept. 27 delivered week of oct. 11. What part of the country are you in?? I had my VIN # exactly one week after ordering. Is the dealer you ordered from a busy dealer that sells a lot of trucks? I ordered from Gator Ford in Tampa. All they do is sell Ford Trucks. No cars or vans. Does your dealer have the DORA on your vehicle?? Dealer Order Receipt Acknowlegement.

Congrats rflint....what made you go with the 5.4 engine? I know you were debating on either the 5.4 or the V10. What solidified your decision??
  • kubeskubes Member Posts: 23
I have my build date and VIN for my F250 Lariat SD CC 4X4 V10 430 rear end. At first the build date was Sept 6 with ETA of Sept 27 - then went to build date Sept 13 ETA Oct 4 - now build date Sept 20 ETA Oct 11.

I hope this does not get delayed any longer - My GMC Z71 was stolen right out of my driveway and I need wheels.

Does anybody have the Ford OEM alarm system on their truck and is it any good or should I buy a aftermarket one.

I noticed that the Excursion offers a medium graphite leather option - why not on the SD and why can you get a 373 rear end on a CA V10 F350 but not on a CA F250. It think Ford needs to look at their build items a little closer. What I mean is that I though the more expensive (Lariat) should give you more then one option when it comes to the color leather you want.

I guees I'm guest getting a little anxious but with just cause.

Does anybody know how I can find out what's the reason for the delays on my truck. I have already seen many new 2K models on lots - whats up?
  • mayfordmayford Member Posts: 19
I live in the MOTORCITY. The dealer I went with sells a lot of trucks. I am stopping down there first thing in the morning.

I wonder if the problem is the fact that I ordered a XL instead of an XLT. I don't need carpeting, or power windows etc... I run a landscaping company and need a work truck. Besides I got the things on the truck that I NEED, not the stuff that would be really nice to have. F-250,V-10,sc,Lb,srw,373 Ls,off road pack. A/C, I basicly got what I could afford. Even the price of this rasscle is putting me over our budget.
  • rflintrflint Member Posts: 34
crazyelvis, The decision wasn't easy..I had two nights to think about it v10 or 5.4. Honestly,im not going to be doing any work, maybe pulling a 19ft boat once in a while but thats about it.I love the looks and feel of this truck so much better than the dodge and with the increase in H.P to 260 i think it will do fine for my application. Now the real important question i'v been reading so many horror stories about the delay in receiving your vehicles,I HOPE im lucky enough to get mine within the 13wk period the dealer told me it would take, but of course i took that with a grain of salt.Anyway i've read alot of posts for the vehicles, and i must say for the most part i believe it's going to worth the wait!!

Hope the trip to the dealer was helpfull. I have a lot of family up around Detroit. Frasier, Warren, St. Clair Shores...etc. When I was a kid I used to love going there for holidays....the best part when I was a kid was the BIG tire off the interstate coming into town. All of my family works for Chrysler up there. I get a lot of slack for buying Ford but oh well......

I need to replace my small (non-trailer/tow) drivers side mirror on my 99 and remember Ford was going to offer a telescopic mirror for the 2000 model year. The order code is 54Y. Anybody buy a set from the parts department yet? I would appreciate a part number or any other information. There was an old topic but, apparently, it has been deleted. Thanks in advance.

I installed a Ford alarm system on my 99.5 F-250 SD. It works great, and incorporates the remote keyless entry with the alarm. Installation was fairly straight forward, but did take a while as I did not want to mess anything up on my new truck. Ford offers several different alarms for the SD trucks, depending on whether your truck already has keyless entry and what kind of alarm features you want. I got the System 6 alarm.

Can someone tell me if level 10 priority is good or bad?
  • parrot_headparrot_head Member Posts: 17
Tessy - Priority 10 is good. Not THE BEST, but good. It is the highest a dealer can order a vehicle at (ie 20, 15, 12, 10). Anything less than a 10 (1-9) must be done by a Regional Ford Rep. and usually only under special circumstances (ie order was misplaced after months, wrong veh came in, etc etc). Mine was ordered as priority 10, was serialized within the week and build date within one month of order, delivery estimated at 6 week mark. Of course other things come into play besides priority #, allocations, etc... Hope that helps!

Picked up my F250 sd cc 4x4 today (I live in Ca). Had no problem getting the 3.73 ls rear end. I have read in previous posts that this option is not available for California orders but that is not the case. You might want to ask your dealer to double check his info.
  • mayfordmayford Member Posts: 19
I found out today from people at the KTP that the V-10's are not available till the middle of next week, 9-15-99. Several blocks of them went towards the new Excrusions.

I ordered my truck back in May. I did however find out that I am in the next block of V-10's that are being built :)) How many are in a block??? I am not sure.

Will thay run into this problem again in the near future??? I think so. I bet they are trying to get as many Excrusions on the road as possable.
If you are planning on or have all ready ordered a V-10 you might consider changing to a PSD. The KTP is rocking those out all day long. I have thought about changing my order, but, I have run the numbers and the famliy budget is all ready way over it's limit with what I have ordered, the PSD would really break my bank. I have thought about putting the camper package on it and rigging it up and just living in that, the wife did not think it was a good idea :))
  • kubeskubes Member Posts: 23
Your right, I walked onto a lot and found an F350 with a 373ls (Ca) model V10. I called my dealer and spoke with the order manager and he said that the 373ls was available. I told him two sales guys said it was not. The way the order book read was wrong. Anyway I had the order changed, I hope that does not delay my truck.

Post 637 thanks for the info on V10 delays - that explains why my build date was pushed back two weeks. I also ordered mine in May.

No more delays please I need my truck. My order was a priority 2 so my truck should get built with yours I hope.

I saw your post regarding your positive experience with Gator Ford in Tampa and decided to give Ken a call. They beat my best Orlando price by $900.00. I now have a shiny new 2000 SD CC 4x4 Power Stroke Diesel waiting for me to pick up on Friday Morning - talk about the night before Christmas!!

I wanted to post this with thanks for all the great info I got off this site over the past 3 weeks. I had been quietly reading all the posts
and it helped make up my mind. I purchased off
the lot a '99 SD SC Psd LB XLT for $75.00 over
invoice + $2000.00 Tradein on an old 3/4 ton Chevy with 212,000 miles(on it's last legs). I was pleased with the deal at Champion Ford in Shreveport, La. So far, the truck's great. Now if I can just keep my wife & teen-age daughter out of it, so I can drive it.

Great. Ken is a great guy. Not one of those sleeze balls you normally have to put up with. I won't get my truck till week of Oct. 11....that is if all the planets and stars line up and my truck gets built on time. I talked to Ken about a week ago and he said someone in Orlando who heard about gator ford from me on the internet called him and was possibly buying a truck. Is this you? Are you from Orlando???

Can anyone tell me about this mysterious blanket that Ford was sending to purchasers of Superduties? So far, all I have gotten from Ford have been a few pamphlets and a vial of touch-up paint.I remember references to this blanket from way earlier in this forum.I hope this isn't a nice little extra that Ford has decided to forgo now that these trucks are selling as fast as they are built. If anyone did get one, how long after your purchase did the blanket come?
  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113

I received a directors chair with the Ford oval on the back. It arrived before my truck did, so it was quite a surprise. My 2000 F-250 SD arrived on 8-5-99, with the chair about a week beforehand.
