Sorry, 4 wheel ABS was not standard on any 99 f250.Item 67B cost me $425 on my Lariat 4x4 v10. Mine took a full 6 months from order to delivery, Jan.26-last week in June.I know others have waited longer but still the wait sucked.Nice ride, however.
  • mcgrathmcgrath Member Posts: 11
I agree that ABS was not standard on 99 XLT's. I forgot to put in my post that mine is a 2000 SD XLT. The flyer from Ford I had in May when I ordered stated that 4 wheel ABS would be standard on 2000 XLT's and Lariats. The sticker in my window says it is a $375 option. I am still waiting for some word from the salesman before I take ownership.

My 99 F250 SD Lariat doesn't have the 4 wheel ABS as a standard item. It was a option that I didn't choose. Ditto on the "Nice Ride" comment also. Ordered 8/26 Picked up 11/16.

Office memo from Ford about ABS brakes dated July 22, 99

"Regarding the elimination of 4-wheel ABS as standard equipment on F250/350 XLT trim, we are doing the following:

    1) For scheduled retail orders with an order receipt date on or before 7/16 (the
date of DNB which communicated the 4-wheel ABS change), we will build these
units with 4-wheel ABS and issue a price credit.

    2) For any other order, the base price of F250/350 XLT trim will be adjusted
downward due to the elimination of 4-wheel ABS and 4-wheel ABS will be priced as
    an option. "
  • buttonbutton Member Posts: 8
Hmmmmmm…So how do I know what the base price is supposed to be? The only prices that I have seen for the 2Ks are in Kelley Blue Book. They still show ABS as standard equipment. How can I tell if the base price on my truck reflects and adjustment for no ABS?

I have a late 99 Lariat and 4 wheel ABS was an option even though it was a Lariat.

Stones - it's not your driving :) There was a problem with early rotors, TSB 99-12-12: ISSUE
new design front rotors and hubs began prod on march 8,99 the new rotors and hubs are not interchangeable with old parts. if vehicle is serviced with the wrong part, the vehicle will experience symptoms such as; brake drag extensive lining wear, brake shudder, associated brake noises
    ACTION
make sure rotor or hub replacement is with the same one on vehicle. the following are the build dates for new rotors and hubs
    *MARCH 10,00 F-250/350 SINGLE REAR WHEEL 4X4
    *MARCH 21,99 F-350 DUEL REAR WHEEL 4X4 AND F-459/550
vehicles built during the following dates may have either new or old parts
*MARCH 8/10,99 FOR F-250/350 SINGLE REAR WHEEL 4X4
    *MARCH 8/20,99 FOR F-350 DUAL REAR WHEEL 4X4, F-450/550

This should give you something to go to dealer with if they aren't keeping up with TSBs.

Todlake, you may be experiencing similar problem.
Not sure if you are aware of it but www.ford-diesel.com has a lot of info and msg boards, one specifically for 99 & up. A lot of info on SD's. Good Luck!

Has anyone seen any bulletins on the Power Telescopic Trailer Tow Mirrors? My 2000 came in without them and I have my dealer trying to find out whats up. He says that come mid year we can retrofit the mirrors to be telescoping. According to Kelleys Blue Book, the price for the Telescoping mirrors is 132.00. I think that is what they charged me for the regular trailer tows. If they can retrofit them for free thats fine, but if they want more money to put them on, I may have to order a new truck. I am already ticked off about the $375 ABS "option" that was standard when I ordered it. Hell, I didn't even specify 4 wheel antilocks. I can live with that, but I would like to find out if anybody has any info on the mirrors.

    Thanks,

    Jim
  • mayfordmayford Member Posts: 19
I heard they(mirrors) are not even in the plant untill Sept. 18th. I deleted them from my order in hopes of getting my truck sooner.
  • mcgrathmcgrath Member Posts: 11
What kind of mirrors do you finally go with? Did Ford give you any kind of a price break?
  • mayfordmayford Member Posts: 19
I went with the standard trailer towing mirrors, no price break, I can have them, but would have to wait longer. I can't wait. I have fall clean-ups to do for my landscaping company and before ya know it the snow will be flying. Putting a plow on it.
  • siedensieden Member Posts: 6
Re: #548 I got my truck yesterday and it had power trailer towing mirrors even though I had taken them off to try to get it early.
  • crazyelviscrazyelvis Member Posts: 216
Got my VIN number today!! Yippeeee!! Can't wait to get my 2000 F-250 SD CC V10.....Said it should be in late sept. early oct. Anyone with a similar truck let me know how you like yours. Thanks.
  • mcgrathmcgrath Member Posts: 11
Are the telescoping mirrors the same as the regular ones. What do you think of them? Is there a different switch for the telescoping? My dealer says they are the same and you can retrofit them. BTW, is your truck a Lariat? Mine is an XLT.
  • buttonbutton Member Posts: 8
OK, so let me get this straight. If I want the power trailer mirrors, and the ABS, I won’t get either one of them, but Ford will be happy to charge me for them anyway. But if I decide to delete these items, I’ll get them?
  • tom18tom18 Member Posts: 89
Ya! I need it spelled out too - for 2000 are 4 wheel ABS ( anti locked brakes) standard and available for all 4 wheels or must you pay for them as an option for the F350 Lariat 4X4 supercab and if so what is the invoice price? Also after you total the invoice items in either Edmunds or Kelly Blue Book sites - what is a reasonable additional profit margin to bargin for - are these vehicles so hot that it isn't worth the effort? I am a first time truck buyer and have watched this site for over a year with amazement on the price changes and option availability as I save for a purchase. The situation seems to change on specific pricing and options that I am thinking of looking elsewhere.

I ordered my Y2K F-250 SD 2WD SB SC V-10 XLT about five weeks ago. I got a call from the dealer today saying that the truck had just rolled off of the transporter. I called my wife and made plans to go out to dinner and stop by the dealership and see our new truck. For financial reasons, we had decided to wait until next week to pick it up, but we were very anxious to see it.

We pulled into the dealership about 6:00 p.m. and found our salesman who told us to go on back to the receiving lot. He said we couldn’t miss it, it was the only Harvest Gold Super Cab back there. We drove back there and I spotted it immediately. I noticed that it was unlocked, so I climbed in. As I looked over the truck to see if all of the equipment was correct, my wife stayed back and looked over the outside. When I looked up to see her reaction, I noticed that she wasn’t smiling. What’s wrong? I asked. Those lights! She replied. What lights? I asked. Those up there on the roof, she pointed up. I looked up, and sure enough, there were five clearance lights on the roof. I didn’t order those I said. I looked at the sticker, and they didn’t show up anywhere. But there they were, on the roof of our brand new truck, and presumably, a hole in the roof under each one of them. I don’t want them she said. It looks like a mail truck.

Now I understand that many of you are reading this and asking what’s the big deal. But this is mainly going to be my wife’s truck and she has to be happy with it. And I have to agree with her, I really don’t like those lights.

The salesman looked at them, and the sticker, checked the order, and agreed that the lights were not ordered, even by mistake. So we turned it down. What a shame, one silly little fifty-five dollar option blows the whole deal. They’re going to re-order. They say that in this case, they can pull some strings and expedite a new truck in a couple of weeks. Maybe that one will have ABS.

Thanks for all the info - so are those 4 wheel ABS brakes standard or are they an option?

Which is the cheapest way to buy--auto-by-tel? Costco? dealer?
Do you get the same service, speed of delivery if ordered thru one of the buyer services?
Also are there any new colors for the 2000?

Anyone have MPG to pass on regarding the V-10 for
the 2000 model? I am curious if the changes to
increase torque and HP has hurt or helped the MPG.
  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113
I'm pretty sure that the colors for the 2000 model are listed on the Kelley Blue Book site at:

    www.kbb.com
  • siedensieden Member Posts: 6
I am looking at the window sticker and ABS and Power Trailer Towing Mirrors are OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT. My dealer gave the power trailer tow mirrors to me because it came in with them on though they had been deleted. I did pay for the ABS
    2000 XLT V10 SC 142
  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113
Let us know what your mpg is with the 2000 V-10 (make sure you let us know what axle ratio you have). I'm curious to see if the increased hp and torque impacted the mpg. Personally, I doubt it did, but you never know.
  • cattleman1cattleman1 Member Posts: 3
According to Ford's 2000 Trailer towing guide (page 6) Quote:"4-wheel ABS(standard on all models except single rear wheel XL and XLT trim models (rear wheel ABS standard; 4 wheel ABS optional)." The only new color for 2000 is Island blue, which is a blue-green color. Please note however that this is not a clearcoat paint.

What is the increase in HP on the V10 up to. Wasn't the 99 model 275 HP?? And as for pricing if you are ordering your truck, I had the best deal with the actual dealer.
  • mayfordmayford Member Posts: 19
I still dont know if I have read it yet on here. Have any of the 2000 come with the telescopic trailer tow mirrors (retracked in and out)???
This is the first time I have ordered a new vehicle. Once I get my vin # can I make any changes??? Just got my build date, Thursday the 2nd of Sept. How long after that do you think it will take to get up to the dealer???
  • mayfordmayford Member Posts: 19
I heard the HP has been bumped up to 310 HP.

On the 2000 model - is spare standard on Lariat F350 4X4 SRW long bed I now assume 4 wheel ABS would be standard from previous post #567. Does the spare automatically match your on vehicle tires ? - example if you get the OWL tire option - then is the spare an OWL tire or is it different if the spare is standard on the Lariat package that I mentioned ? Could anyone actually list the pricing standard/optional changes when going from the 1999 to 2000 models in the Lariat package ? Also what is the potential load carrying capacity
difference when you compare a 4X4 extended cab long bed to a 4X2 regular cab long bed in the F350 models. In other words what carrying capacity do you lose in this model by adding the super cab and the 4X4 options ?
  • bessbess Member Posts: 972
The size of the spare will be the same as the rest of the tires, however it may be a black side wall rather than white letter.

1999 vs 2000 model year, less than 1% difference in price.. Look here at the edmunds site for the 1999 and 2000 pricing.

Load capacity is depending on all of the factors
    RC,SC, CC, V8, V10, Diesel, 4x2, 4x4, SB, LB, trans type,axel ratio, etc..

4x4 SC, LB, V10, 3.73, auto, = 11,200 trailer weight capacity, 4,164 max payload on truck.

4x2 RC, LB, V10, 3.73, auto, = 11,600 trailer weight capacity, 4,930 max payload on truck

You might want to stop by the ford dealer and get the booklet on the F-Series trucks which has all of this listed.
  • tom18tom18 Member Posts: 89
Thanks bess #572 I incorrectly asked my load capacity question - I wanted to see the difference of the 4X4/4X2 option in load capacity - I accidentally listed regular cab for the 4X2 model - My question correctly stated is - what is the load capacity difference between the F350, super cab, 4X4, long bed, V10, 3.73, automatic transmission and the F350, super, cab, 4X2, long bed, V10, 3.73, automatic transmission.

I ordered my F250 SD CC 4x4 V10 Auto with 4:30LS (CA models wth V10 LS only avilable with 4:30) on 5/12/99 and the build date is not until 9/13/99 with ETA of 10/4/99. What gives - my order had priority 02. How did you get yours so soon.

What color did you get and will I be happy with this truck?

Can the V-10 run well on 87 octane? Or are all these 13-15 MPG quotes from using 93 octane? How about an ethanol mix?
  • gmacegmace Member Posts: 31
My 6000 lb 4X4 crew cab long bed V10 auto w/ 3.73 gets 14mpg running almost empty (one motorcycle)at 75-80mph. I use 87 or 86 octane and never have any detectable detonation even at 1500 ft elevation and 110 degrees F. The owners manual does not recommend below 87 octane and I avoid it when I can. I think it would be a waste of money to use high octane gas in the 1999 V10 unless you are running a supercharger or have had higher compression pistons installed. Don't know if the 2000 model needs higher octane, though.

What is the MPG in the city? Do you tow? I tow a thirty foot(6000lb) travel trailer. I was wondering if the 3.73 was low enough.

    Tmatusza, I ordered my SD 250 sc 4x4 v-8
auto on April 18 1999. My salesman originally told
me 6 to 8 weeks waiting period, and it would be
better to order than to try to locate one. Well
one month went by then another, 6 to 8 weeks more
and still nothing. Finally he gave me a build date
of Aug 9th. and at that time, due to suggestions
on this site, I cancelled the v-8 and ordered the
v-10 auto with 3.73. I am excited and can't wait.
But I gotta say 5 months is to long to wait for
any vehichle. I am disapointed in Ford Motor Co
and with my dealer, My wife and I will both be gald when this truck is finally here. We have been
told the week of sept 13th. Still waiting.

My city mileage is usually around 11.6 to 12.6 and I conserve momentum. When I tow our 24 foot travel trailer and fill the bed with gear and toys, I get around 9.5 mpg going 60-65mph level and as low as 7.5 mpg going 65-75mph uphill 5000 ft to 7000 ft. I think 3.73 is great. Second gear is good for 65 to 70mph at redline. I generally tow in third unless I am on a gentle downhill, where I use OD. Third is optimal for that 5500 lb travel trailer at this altitude at 65 mph. I never feel the need for 4.30:1 but if I towed 10,000 lb more than half of the time, I would probably want it. I think you will find the 3.73/V10 combo to be more than adequate. If I want to go faster and use more fuel I just push the pedal. Up 6% grades from 5000 ft to 7000 ft I can usually hold 55-65 mph and think you could end up ,maybe 5 mph at most, slower with your trailer. At 7000 feet that V10 is only making 200 to 215 hp also. Keep in mind what speeds you drive, and what conditions. For out west I wanted the 3.73. I still would buy it if I lived where it was low and slow (55 mph).

Ordered my V-10 F250 SD CC 4X4 on 6-4-99 out here in Southern California. The wait is begining to try my patience to say the least... The dealer first told me it would be in Sept. 6 and now it is pushed back to Sept 13. I'm not holding my breath though. Has anyone received their orders in CA. yet? I'm begining to think my dealer dropped the ball and is feeding me crap. Some encouraging info. would be nice.

Thanks for the info. Tonight I drove the 2000 v10 and 1999 PSD. The PSD was loud in the cab but seemed to have endless power. The V10 did well and I think it will be the V10 and 3.73LS for me. I live in Ohio were it is considerably flatter than where you are driving. We do have rolling hills in southern Ohio, Ky and Tenn. I was hoping I was going to be able to tow in OD but I'll deal with it.

I have had a 1999 f250 5.4L 4:10 4X4 SC LB Since Dec. 98. There is not enough engine for the truck. I have never got any better than 11 mpg with it. I don't recommend the 5.4 to nobody. Getting ready to order a v-10 with crew cab this week.
  • crazyelviscrazyelvis Member Posts: 216
Do you all call your salesman periodically about your ordered vehicles or do they call you. I got my VIN # already...ordered on Aug. 16.... but how did you all find out about build dates and delivery dates??? How long did it take for you all to get the VIN #. I had mine in exactly one week. I don't want to bug the dealer about the truck but I would like to find out about progress. Any info would help. Thanks......Crazyelvis

I have two questions about the Superduty that I haven't been able to answer to my satisfaction at the dealers. Perhaps someone out there has facts.

Does anyone know what the maximum torque input the 4R100 automatic transmission is designed to handle? I was told, by dealer in S.D., that the new transmission was designed for 1k lb of touque. I haven't been able to validate that comment. My dealer said the factory told him it is designed for 500 ft lbs. That can't be right as the psd would be borderline with the transmission.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the S.D. 250 and 350 other than 1100 lbs of cargo?
Everything in the published specs for the '99 indicate there is no difference other than the rating.

If I knew how to ask the Ford factory I would send them an e-mail.

By the way, I am waiting for my 350 psd.

    Thanks for the info.

Dave, is it that simple after giving the dealer a deposit, signing the deal to cancel the order because of an extended wait ? Can the dealer hold the deposit and what are his/her rights ? How long a wait would be considered too long by most standards to allow a purchaser out of the signed deal ?

Have a 1999 Ford F-250SD, 2WD, SWB, Crew Cab, Lariat, V10 with 3.73 ratio. Gas mileage is 11.7mpg around town and 13mpg on highway. I typical drive 70 - 75 mph on the freeway. Is my gas mileage typical of this vehicle or not? I am looking to improve the it. I really try to drive easy around town to maximize gas mileage and currently have nothing to tow. Does anyone out there have any experience with a similarly configured vehicle that gets better gas mileage. I've heard that performance chips improve mileage but force you to use high octane fuel so there's no savings. Also I've heard that a K&N air filter will improve mileage. Love the power of the V-10, just want better mileage. Any ideas?
  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113
You will probably add about 3/4 of a mpg for every 5mph you slow down on the freeway. Personally, I prefer to sacrifice the mpg.

If you average 15,000 miles per year, a loss of 2mpg will cost you about $300-$375 per year, depending on the gas costs in your area. So, you basically have to decide if the extra power or increased speed is worth an extra $1 per day. If you give up your morning Cappacino and opt for Folgers instead, you've covered the cost.

I bought my 99 F250SD, 4x2, CC, SWB, V10, 3.73, Lariat for $26,700 on a company supplier discount plan. Compared to other similar vehicles, I thought this was a bargain. The truck is dark green with tan leather interior, BW tires and aluminum wheels. Looks sharp.

I have about 3500 miles on it and so far no problems. I get about 11.7mpg around town and 13mpg on the freeway. Can't understand some of the comments about 15+mpg. I am not even close to 15mpg and I drive it easy. Have a smooth top cap so it is as aerodynamic as this truck is going to get. Ordered it March 8th, 1999, recieved it June 5th. For a while my order was cancelled due to availablility, but suddenly it was picked up again. The V10 power is great. Replaced my family car, a 1992 Crown Victoria with 4.6L, with this truck. It moves quickly, especially when you need to pass at about 30-40mph. One last comment. I know most people use this vehicle to haul or tow but I bought it to replace my car. (The F150 crew cab wasn't available when I bought this one.) My 13 and 10 year old love the back seat. On long trips, one sleeps on the floor which is flat while the other sleeps on the seat. Did any of you get the blanket in the mail afterwards. Thought it was a nice touch for spending 27K plus tax. Overall its a good truck.
  • dave84dave84 Member Posts: 75
I certainly don't advocate cancelling an order due to an "extended wait" (unless you want to wait even longer), except if you know for sure that the dealer is intentionally causing that delay. From what I know, other than assigning a higher priority number, there's little a dealer can do to get your truck built any faster. What I did advocate in my earlier post was telling the dealer to pack sand if he won't be forthcoming and show you a copy of the DORA for YOUR order. The DORA is a printout from the ordering system computer that will allow you to make sure 1) that your order was actually placed (and tell you when), 2) that it was placed exactly as you specified, and 3) that it was placed at the priority level that the dealer said it was. A dealer that refuses to give you a copy of the DORA for YOUR order has something to hide.

I'm not a lawyer, and I don't play one on TV, so I won't make guesses about the legalities of deposits and order cancellations, etc. These trucks are fairly hot sellers, I don't think any dealer would mind being stuck with a built unit that came from a cancelled order. It would probably be sold for a lot more than the originally agreed upon price.

The best thing to do is to come to an understanding (maybe even in writing?) with the dealer, before an order is actually placed and a deposit is put down, that you (the customer) will be given a copy of the DORA after it is available from the computer, and that if a DORA for your order can't be produced within x number of days, you have the option of cancelling the order and getting your deposit back.

After reading post #581 by Browndog, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He said that he was "disappointed in Ford Motor Company and his dealer" and thought that "5 months was too long to wait for any vehicle." In almost the same breath, he says that he cancelled his first order, after finally getting a build date, to reorder with the v10! Well, hello! Who is causing delays here? I mean, come on! You've got to expect a SERIOUS delay in getting a Super Duty built for you if you cancel after waiting some months and then reorder a different truck. I think with most dealers, if you're straight up with them, and let them know you expect the same kind of treatment, the process from order to delivery will go very smoothly.
  • browndogbrowndog Member Posts: 6
You sound like you have all the answers,
well here it is again. My dealer or salesman told
me after the fourth month of waiting, that there is a build date and if I would like to make any
changes that I would have a week to make them.
I added the v-10, and the delivery date hasn't
change according to him. But five months, I think
I must have gotten lost in the orders.
  • dave84dave84 Member Posts: 75
My apologies. When I read in your post that you had "cancelled the v-8 and ordered the v-10", it sounded to me like you had cancelled the original order and started over from scratch with a v-10 equipped truck. It seems to me that with an Aug. 9 build date you should have your truck already, or at least in the next week. Was your build date pushed back because of the engine change?

If you ordered in April, you must have been ordering a '99. At what point did your dealer tell you that you wouldn't get a '99, and your truck would have to be built as a '00? There were quite a few people that ordered a '99 late in the model year and couldn't get their truck built before the plant shut down to gear up for the Y2K model. Supposedly Ford was giving $500 vouchers to customers whose order was bumped from a '99 to a '00. Did you get compensated for your extended wait with one of these vouchers?

I hope you get your truck soon.

    Dave
