The SD 3/4 and 1 ton 4x4's I understand are too tall to hitch up most 5th wheel trailers. I also understand Ford offers the installation of a free dealer installed lowering kit. Can anybody give me some detail on it? I had one freind say it only lowers the rear of the truck. If that is true wouldn't it look kind of weird? .... Rich

Connon, Did you buy a Lariat?

I got my SD on 4/1 and all I've gotten since then is a recall notice about possible fuel leaks (about a week ago). Anybody else get this recall?

I think the lowering was only for older superduties. It involves bed to rail spaces. Doesn't change the looks that much as it isn't a true lowering, just a change in the hight of the bed.

Your friend is right, it only lower the rear of the truck. You misunderstood how it is done though.

This applied to earlier models up to mid-'99. It leveled the truck from it's 'tail high' appearance. It was achieved by changing the 4" lift blocks for 2" lift blocks. Lots of information earlier in this topic.

I ordered my F250 sd cc 4x4 V-10 on 8-24-99 and still have no build date.Has anyone heard what the hold up with orders? I heard Ford was using all V-10's in Excursions to get them out fast.I think if I do not have a build date by three weeks I am going to the dealer and have a talk about getting a better priority than 10.Thanks.

Hey...I ordered on 8/16...had my VIN exactly one week later....and have a build date of Sept. 27 with delivery of Oct. 11 week of.....Do you have a VIN #?? Did you get the DORA info and use the VOPC phone #?
TJMIXX.....WHERE ARE YOU MAN???!!!! STILL OUT DRIVING YOUR NEW VEHICLE??? HOW DID IT GO AT THE DEALER??? DON'T KEEP ME HANGIN' LIKE THIS!!!!

I ordered a 250 SC Lariat 4X4 V10 on 7/23 with priority 10 from Lonestar Ford in Houston TX and I am still waiting for a build date. I suspect that the dealer held my order because when I went to the dealer and asked for a dora I noticed the one in my file was dated 8/20. I questioned the dealer and was told that the dora gets reprinted with the current date every time a change is made. Interestingly enough I did not request any changes on 8/20. When I looked at the paperwork from 7/23 it had an order number of 0001 which is significantly different from the one I got on the dora he gave me. I tried the Ford customer service number and they couldn't, or wouldn't tell me when the truck was actually ordered. I also have a friend who ordered a 250 CC 4X4 in 6/99 from the same dealership and he doesn't have a build date either. We have both checked the VOPC and know that at as of 9/99 both trucks are in the computer showing clean unscheduled. I am not sure what to do now. I am almost certain the dealership is playing games with me, but the price was the best I found at $300 over invoice and I am afraid that if I go to another dealership I will just start the waiting game over again. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am pretty sick of this, I ordered my truck back in May. Still NO build date. I see all these others who have just ordered and they have the truck already. I have a DORA, I am clean and unscheduled. I am getting word that the V-10's are the problem. They are building them and putting them in the Excrusions, well piss on that. I ordered a truck and need it. I can't afford an XLT loaded, I ordered a XL model. The guy who drives his truck to the office and back and the flipping cover on the bed will probley never come off, or see a trailer hooked up to it takes priority over the guy who needs a truck to make a living. I know they don't know that. It is just that I was counting on Ford to build me a truck that I could get before the snow flys. Heck, I ordered it in the spring.

I love the Super Duty. I am gunna give it one more week, then I GOTTA start looking at another vehicle. I hate to say it, but, it won't be a Ford. Not the way I have been treated.

I feel a little better after a good night sleep, I think I will wait a little more than a week. Just had to get that off my chest.
  • kubeskubes Member Posts: 23
I know the feeling, I ordered my truck in May also. Although I do have a build date of Sep 20th, the first build date was Sep 6th.

My problem is that the truck I "had" was stolen on 7/16/99 and so now any delays really hurt. This truck better get here soon. I did find a 2000 GMC CC at a local dealer, but the truth is the GMC truck is not a bad-[non-permissible content removed] SD with the latest tech. So in other words the have us by the ball's if we want the best truck out there.

You people are putting a little FEAR in me. I ordered my 2000 F250 sd cc Lariat diesel on 7/27/99. The dealer used an order code 15 and every call so far has produced a response of " We have No idea just wait" or "not latter that 3 months". They said the 99's were oversold so this is going to back up the 2000's.
  • mayfordmayford Member Posts: 19
Time for family, you will probley get yours before me, everybody else is and I think I will be getting it soon :) I was at my nephews football game today and was talking to a fella with a sweet psd, WOW, I am really thinking about switching the order to a PSD.

If I do stick with the V-10, I am also considering doing a few Mod's to it. I think I will wait a research it when the truck is here in my driveway.

Can someone with a 1999/2000 F250 or 350, 7.3L diesel, tell me what kind of mpg they are getting. Not how many miles driven on X amount of dollars, but actual MPG.

    Thanks
  • nut4scubanut4scuba Member Posts: 9
hey guys, i am going to order a new ford F350 crew cab but can't decide between the gas and the diesel. I have read all of the posts above and found them mostly very informative. I still have a question though. If you have two equally equipped trucks with 3.73 rear ends and autos, but one in a gas and the other in a diesel, pulling the same heavy load on a steep hill, lets say a 6% grade. If the the gas truck is red-lining at 50 MPH, is it possible for the diesel to go up the same grade any faster because of the greater torque? Will raw horsepower prevail on a grade climb as fars a up-hill speed is considered? Will the diesel not go as fast because it has less horsepower? And at what speed range does more available torques assist one in a pulling situation. 0 to 5 mph?? or more...

I haven't stopped smiling since Friday. For all of you waiting on your trucks, it is well worth the wait. For the first time since I can remember I actually look forward to driving somewhere. I got the V8 Diesel - totally awesome. I've already towed with it over the weekend, I had to check to make sure my 2500# trailer was behind me, 'cause I didn't feel a thing. That diesel kicks [non-permissible content removed]! I had a 1999 GMC Sierra that couldn't come close to ride, handling and tow capacity. I am 110% satisfied. Gator Ford and Ken English were terrific, there were no surprises when I arrived at the dealership. Now if you'll excuse me, its time to crank up the monster.

Well one down about 13 wks to go I ordered by lariet f250 4x4 5.4 lt eng. After reading some posts abouth the height of these veh i understand there are 2" or 4" inch blocks for these trucks can anyone tell me is this something i was to have told my dealer when i ordered or the overall height still going to be plenty enough. Thanks!

This wait is driving me crazyelvis.
    When did you order yours???
  • time4familytime4family Member Posts: 24
Mayford - I get my truck tomorrow.
I ordered it from Pioneer Ford in Lynden, washington.
    2000 CC PSD Lariat 4x4.+++++
7 weeks and 1 day from the time I signed the order form.
I'll be out crusin with it all week.
Then I plan to see how well it will tow my Maxum 27' powerboat.
  • crazyelviscrazyelvis Member Posts: 216
I ordered on Aug 16....exactly 4 weeks ago....I have no idea what priority I was on the order. My salesman gave me my order # vehicle type and everything I needed to know for the VOPC. He didn't even know about it. I had to give him the phone #. So if everything goes well I should have the truck in 7 weeks...like time4family guy.
Like I said...I ordered from Gator Ford in Tampa. All they do is sell trucks...no cars. They probably have a high allotment to order trucks. Thats my guess. If I had gone to my local dealer close to the house I doubt if this would have gone so smoothly....KNOCK ON WOOD..since I don't have the truck yet.
TJMIXX.....glad to see everything went so well for you. Don't you think Ken looks like Colin Montgomery??? the golfer. I am getting the V10 but glad to hear you are happy with the deisel. I am going to be over in Orlando once the truck comes in. I am having an on/off switch for the passanger air bag installed. The guys I found who have positive references are over in your neck of the woods.

Thanks guys for helping this young little lady out. I bought a 99 Ford Eddie Bauer in February and am already to trade it in for my crew cab. I rodeo all over California, Nevada and Arizona. I am going form a two horse to a gooseneck. I have been reading the comments on here daily and am baffled with all the knowledge I have gained. Normally I go into a dealer and pretty much let them tell me what is going on and how much. I AM IN CHARGE NOW, thanks to all of you. I will keep checking in but wanted to take this opportunity to say THANKS.
  • crazyelviscrazyelvis Member Posts: 216
Good going Jeffner....Using the pricing info on the Edmunds page will save you quite a bit of money. Always go for that invoice price.
Mayford....the airbag switch is standard on all trucks except the crew cab. This is the info I have been given anyway. The reason is, I am told, is that in the crew cab a full size person is able to sit in the rear. With the super cab and of coarse the regular cab, that is not the case. If anyone who has a crew cab knows different please let me know. It is going to cost me about $300 to have the on/off switch installed. I also had to send in a request to the NHTSA...national highway traffic safety administration.....that should take about 10 years I suppose.
    See you all later........Crazyelvis
  • mikey43mikey43 Member Posts: 74
I think that you are right about the air bag switch. I got my Crew Cab on April 1 (believe it or not - April Fools Day!) and it doesn't have the switch. Actually, though, the reason for having or not having the switch has mostly to do with child seats. There is no safe way to install a child seat in a seat with an airbag. Also airbags are not safe for small ("child-size") people. Small children (whether in a child seat or not) should really not ride in a front seat at all if there is a back seat, for safety reasons. I have a 6 year old an a 9 year old and they love riding in the monster. The back seat is about as big as their bedrooms.

Have fun with your truck. After 4 1/2 months and 12K miles I still love mine!

I have a F250 V10 CC on order (due first week of Oct.) and I asked about the airbag deactivation switch. It is available on all models EXCEPT Crew Cab. Ford doesn't want the liability on the Crew Cab. They figure that if you have an easy-access rear seat, there is not excuse for putting a child or small adult in the front. Gotta love the lawyers!! CrazyElvis, how did you find out about the after-market installation of a switch. I'm a LONG way from FL, but I'd like to find a local place to get one of these. Do you know what does it do to FORD's warranty?

    Thanks for the info.

    Go to www.airbag.net
They have a list of dealers state by state I think.
I do carpooling and have 3 kids plus one in a car seat. I will put the carseat in the back...but at times I have to have one kid in the front. I won't sit them in the middle buckle, either front of back, because of the lack of a shoulder restraint. If I got into an accident just a lap belt is too little protection for a child.
If you do want an on/off switch installed you first have to fill out a NHTSA form...printable off the internet....and send in the request. I checked off the box stating that...I do not always seat a child in the front but there are times I need to use that seat for a child....there are other boxes to check for various reasons.
I do not know what this does for a warranty. I don't think it should affect much though. I do know if you completely deactivate an airbag you are liable for that deactivation even if you sell or trade in the vehicle. If you sell it and the new owner is injured from the air bag being deactivated you are liable. To what extent...I don't know.
    Hope this helps......

This is my first post, so I hope that I am responding to the correct area. Anyway, I ordered a 2000 F-350 V-10 at the end of July and have been following this site and related postings closely. Don't ask how, but I just received a message from one of the Ford retail marketing managers; and he informed me that there is a definite supply issue where the V-10 engine is concerned. It turns out that most of these engines have been slated for the Excursion. In fact, if you've been calling the VOPC in Kentucky like I have and are wondering why you keep getting
the "clean and unscheduled" message, it's because not a single superduty has been scheduled (serialized) for production for the last three weeks. I am not fabricating any of this; rather, I'm trying to add some concrete info to a previous posting. Like everyone else, I would love to have my truck soon and be out cutting wood; but it looks like we're all going to have to wait. I feel for the guys who need these vehicles for fall clean-ups and the like. If it wasn't so costly, I'd change the order to a powerstroke.

I have a 99 SD, 7.3 Diesel, Crew Cab, long bed, Lariat Package,4-wheel drive, 3:73 gears, camper package, off road package, trailer package, Leer color match topper, cd player with 17,000 miles this truck is loaded. Any suggestions as to the best place to advertise the truck. I need to sell it because personal reasons that have happen after I purchased the truck. It is a great truck and I hate to let it go.

I ordered a 250 SD CC V10 Lariat 4x2 on Aug 16..Up until a few days the VOPC stated that "As of Aug 19 your truck is scheduled to be built week of Sept. 27 with a delivery week of Oct. 11". I called this last monday and it now said "You vehicle is locked in for production week of Sept. 20 with a delivery week of Oct. 4". I don't know why, but you seem to have ordered your truck at least 2-3 weeks before me. I am ordering a V10 also....and I checked with everyone concerned...seems to be no shortage of V10's out there. Why would a Ford Marketing Manager call anyone and relay that there was a shortage of engines. Seems like a bad marketing move to me. Did he offer any reduction in price for your wait? It seems like a pretty big move to go from a V10 at $500 to a PS at $4200. For a week or two wait longer I wouldn't pay another $3700!!
  • crazyelviscrazyelvis Member Posts: 216
When did your dealer finally put in your order. Was it in the last 3 weeks?? If he did...he waited a month and a half to put your order in. Time to go to another dealer if that happened. My order got put in the day I made the deal. Again......

just a caution for those considering disabling the airbags...
I'm an EMT in NJ and have seen airbags do a LOT more good than bad. For every case we hear of someone too small that got hurt or killed, there are thousands that walked away with minor injuries that would have died w/o the airbag. (I have personally seen hundreds [40-50/year] of cases where the minor injuries would have been eligible for trauma centers if not for the airbags. The injuries typically are broken noses, broken hands, and brush burns on the forearms - a whole lot better than unconscious multisystem chest and head trauma)

The biggest concern I've heard of is when the DRIVER is too small and needs to be too close to the wheel to drive, or a backwards babyseat is in the front passenger seat. I think a child in the front passenger seat should be able to get far enough away that that airbag is not an issue. (They are split benches after all)
(Of course back seat is better, but I understand the carpools.)

Please search out more information on airbags and how they relate to your specific situation before you make your decision.

    Crazyelvis...
Hope you, your family, and your truck rode out the hurricane OK. what a storm! Thanks for the airbag info. I'll check into it. My motivation is hunting and fishing with my boy. When you are traveling on a dirt road at low speeds, doesn't seem to me there is much injury risk with my boy in the front. That is until the airbag deploys (either because of an impact or accidentally) and smacks him. That leads me to ...

    longhair...
I appreciate hearing from someone who has to deal with the 'yuck' of highway accidents. Thanks for your efforts out there! Sounds like you think that in the situation I described above I could just make sure my boy's seat is all the way back and he's belted in. Will that get him far enough away from the bag to be safe? I may be being over cautious worrying about an 'accidental' deployment at low speeds, but when it comes to my kids, I tend to error on that side.

Of course at normal pavement speeds and conditions (other cars, etc.) he'll be in the back in his car seat!

Thanks again folks. Won't double post this time!

I haven't posted in an while, but have an update to my truck situation. As a refresher I ordered my F350 SRW 4x4 XLT on July 14th. Priority 10. It was delivered to the dealer TODAY!!! and I will pick it up on Saturday. I'd pick it up sooner but my work schedule just won't work it out. Getting ready to start picking corn.

In any case there were early rumors and questions as to a few of the options, so I got a verbal confirmation from the dealer today that the 4 wheel ABS ARE on the truck, and it IS part of the standard options price. The Power Telescopic Trailer Tow Mirrors ARE on the truck. He said he tested them out himself. So either I am lucky with the timing of my order, or something.

As for the rest, here it is:

F350 4x4 XLT, SRW, Standard Cab
    Black
    6.8 L V10
    Manual Transmission
    4.30 LS Axle
    SOF 4x4
    block heater
    sliding rear window
    trailer tow package w/Hitch receiver
    off road package
    clearance lights
    HD Service Suspension

This is going to be one hell of a farm truck, and will look darn nice driving me and my one and only to church on Sunday. Can't wait to pick her up (the truck that is). I'll post mileage, ride, etc. next week.

    Thanks,

    Jim

Thanks to the emt for the insight. Like I stated, I only need to sit one child in the front of the truck on a very limited basis. At all other times the kids are away from the airbags. I did read alot of info on airbags. www.airbag.net

I haven't recieved the OK paperwork from the NHTSA yet. Will get my truck around week of oct. 4. Hope the paper work isn't too far behind. I used to be in the Navy, so I know the govt. can be a little slow sometimes.

Hey cowboy....what part of the country are you from. I am origionally from Illinois. My uncle has a HUGE farm in Marshall, IL. Not to far from Terre Haute Indiana. Used to detassle corn and bale hay when I was a kid. Hated it then but would be good exercise now. I just wanted to ride in the tractor and play with the animals then. Good luck with your truck!!!
  • cowboyjpmcowboyjpm Member Posts: 17
I knew you had to be midwest grown. The corn I'll be picking is in the Tall Corn State of Iowa. We've got a little over 3k acres right now corn/soybeans in Southwest Iowa. Lord knows the new SD will be put to the test, but it will sure be fun.
  • crazyelviscrazyelvis Member Posts: 216
Good luck with the corn. My cousin went to Iowa...wrestlin' scholarship. He was a pretty good wrestler. I think my uncle owns between 3k and 5k acres. I always thought of that as a HUGE farm. Especially as I live on a half acre in a subdivision near Tampa. First time I've lived out of the country atmosphere. Some day would like to move back north...mountains of Georgia...and have about 5 acres. That would be nice. Thats why I'm workin hard right now.
    Take care....Crazyelvis

I'll try to answer your questions as best I can. The order was placed with Ford on the same day that I went to the dealership (July 27th). I called four days later to add clearance lights and was informed that it would not delay my order. I ordered an F-350 with the V-10, 3.73LS rear end, manual trans., AC and sliding R. window. That's it. The option package that I wanted was dropped for 2000 (tilt, cruise, cassette, AC), and I wasn't going to waste the money on buying them outside the package. (AC was my only real concern anyway). To clarify, I did not call, nor was I contacted (phone)by a manager. I obtained his web address from friends within Ford. To be honest, I didn't expect him to get back to me at all. In my post yesterday I omitted that roughly 15% of all orders received by dealers can get the V-10 in a superduty. He cited production capacity, federal fuel mileage regs, and the Excursion all as contributing factors. I don't mean to confuse anyone. This guy is THE Memphis regional marketing manager, not to be confused with a glorified salesman. He is one of the few people that decide what gets built and when. And it isn't too difficult to understand why Ford would choose to put these motors (V-10) into Excursions, rather than the superduties (for now). Look at the profit margin for these monsters. I know if I were getting a bonus based largely on sales revenue for my area I would push the Excursions too. Compare a$45,000 Exc. to an F-350 lariat--not even close. Don't get me wrong; it irritates the hell out of me just to see another one of these SUVs on the road. It's my opinion that these motors shouldn't even be wasted on pointless vehicles like this; but that's getting off on another discussion all together. I'm not all over the back of my dealer because I got the truck at invoice; and so far he has given me all the information I have asked for. If I don't receive a "scheduled for production" message by mid Oct. I will start to steam. Perhaps my order has some quirks that pushed it back: no auto, relatively stripped interior...I don't know. I can't remember if you have your truck yet or not. If so, what did you get?

Seems to me you have an easier truck build than me. I am getting the Lariat package V10 and you are getting an XL? I've long since given up trying to figure stuff like this out.
The new 5.4 has a power increase. The V10 also goes up in HP for 2000 also, doesn't it?
    275 HP in 1999...what is it for 2000? I have heard 300-310HP.
  • lenad1lenad1 Member Posts: 6
I called Ford about a month ago and spoke to someone in cust. relations who told me that the V-10 was going to 310hp and 425ftlbs. Off the top of my head I can't remember the specs for the V-8.
Yep, I ordered an XL. The truck will eventually be a daily driver once my car dies. I even went with the heavyduty vinyl bench. I couldn't justify leather, and the cloth would absorb smells and the like. I figure I'll just buy a good seat cover and wash it when the need arises. I looked inside a lariat yesterday. It was loaded! The seats looked like those found in 1st class on American Airlines. What rear end did you settle on? I won't be hauling any 10,000lb trailers, and the V-10 makes 95% of its torque at 2,000rpm, so I went with the 3.73. Beside two flimsy skid plates and an "off road" sticker, what's the point of the off-road package? I'm fortunate enough to work where I can fabricate stainless parts up to 1" thick. So if protection is in order I'll make the skid plates myself. I mean, really, roll underneath a superduty and check out the gauge of metal covering the tank and transfer case. I'll save the $140 for something else. Have you put any thought into bed protection? (I'm sure you have) Rhino keeps sending me samples, but I think I'm going to go with the Ford Duraliner. They tuck up really nice under the plastic rail guards on the superduties. Well, I better get back to work or I won't have a job to pay for this truck with.

I went with the 3.73 limited slip.....I pull a jet ski and a 20 foot ranger bass boat. Glad to hear about the leather interior....can't wait to sit my butt in there......I have the cloth XLT package on my F150 right now...it does absorb smells...plus I left the windows half down a couple of weeks ago when it rained.....STINKY!!!!!!!!! can still smell it somewhat and I used fabreeze and lysol. I am going with a conventional bedliner. I read in the spray in liner VS. regular liner discussion page about a guy who got the spray in liner 3 seperate times. They oversprayed his truck, he had to get body shop work done to correct it and they did other damage to his truck. This guy emailed me and said the spray in was the way to go. Can you believe that???!!!! I have had more than 4 regular liners in trucks and have NEVER had a problem. Plus it is only $129 bucks instead of $350-500 for the spray in one. I didn't get the off road package either...I am getting a 4x2 anyway so no off road for me.

I have been sympathetic to everyone waiting for their 2000 SD. I originally ordered one on 2-9-99, but was bumped to a 2000 model around late May/early June. Got it on 8-5-99 & have been having fun ever since. The FORD district rep. in Detroit called me yesterday (at work yet!) to ask how I liked it and such. I told him it was great, but I wondered how the current sales of the V-10's was going with the Super Duties. He didn't give me a straight answer about the V-10's going to the Excursions, just that they were trying to keep up with production requirements. I asked him how the SD sales were going, and he said "You know how difficult it was to get YOUR truck? Well, it's even more difficult now." He believes that the model 2000 run will be filled in a month or two, so if you can't find it on the lot, ORDER IT SOON!!

How long should I expect to wait for a 2000 SD CC DRW 4X2 Diesel Lariat 6sp?
It was ordered 9/13/99 Priority 10.
Also order has listed price level 15 and Flt before customer name, does this have a meaning?

I'm attemptint to order a 2k sd 250 4x4 cc. Dealer says I can't get 3.73ls with the 5.4L Auto. Didn't I see some discussion about that being available? Anybody know?

According to the Kelly Blue Book printout from the net, the limited slip (opt XC1) isn't available for the 5.4 with Auto or stick. You need the 6.8 Liter or the diesel. I think that you can get the 4.10ls (option XC2) with the auto or stick.

I ordered my 2000 SD XLT 250 V8 on 9/9/99, after reading all the information I called the dealer and changed to the V10 with 3.73LS. The dealer said it would add an extra two weeks to the delivery time. After reading all the positive comments about the V10, I think it will be worth the wait. I am hoping to receive my new truck by Thanksgiving. Thanks for all the good information.
