XLT order / deliver times above are accurate. I ordered 3/5 and my trucks in transit, father order 3/12 and his is being built this week and a guy at work has a VIN / build date on 3/29 (should also be being built). My delivery should be approx 6 weeks. Hopefully it will all work out.
I see XLTs all over the lots here in California. However, I see very few Crew Cabs, and no CC V10s. My guess is that it's a combination of things that can slow an order to the 16-18 weeks many of us are experiencing. I wonder what the delivery difference would be between a CC v10 4x4 in an XLT vs a Lariat?
tom18....I stayed with the cloth seats in the XLT I purchased 3/19, however, I will be seeing the sales manager and fleet manager within the next 10 days, they are customers of mine. I will ask them the approximate cost of converting cloth to leather. This is not the first time I have heard of new car dealerships doing this, I spoke with a Mitsubishi salesman at last years local new car show who sent Montero Sports, with cloth seats, out for leather conversions.
Just got off the phone with my salesman. My F250 SD CC XLT 4x4 V-10 is on the lot! Delivered to the dealer exactly 8 weeks from the day they entered my order. I'm picking it up Monday so I'm sure I'll be posting Monday evening with the details. Haven't been this excited since the arrival of my youngest daughter almost 11 years ago!
Just as a reminder for our newer members, the site http://www.wheels.com posts auto industry information including build delays. However they haven't updated the SuperDuty info since Feb. At that time it showed these options as limited availability: V8, V10, PSD (I guess you need to buy the electric or CNG version if you want an engine fast ;-) Automatic trans CrewCab SRW 4x4, DRW Lariat
I'm betting that ordering more than one increases the wait exponentially (PSD auto CC DRW 4x4 lariat like I want) for the past three weeks, my truck has been at the top of my dealer's list, but has been passed over because (choose one) of the options wasn't buildable this week. Next week, that one's good, but another isn't. Ford won't start it until all options are available this week, so that may also be affecting your order.
BTW, I did get a nice letter from Ford promising to build my truck just as soon as they can, and advising me to contact my dealer for updates.
Re: per Mark Wilson at the Ky plt., eff. I believe 2-15-99, F250's were coming off the line with only the 2" block, not the 4". Our unit has the 4" block, and we have no problem...it's when someone wants to drop their unit by removing the 4" block...that procedure was causing driveline problems for FORD...so they regrouped, and have established a forthcoming TSB authorizing dealers to drop the F250 4x4 by only 2", not 4". Once it's been established that your unit doesn't have the 4" block...possibly you can request that FORD change your heighth to 4"...at their expense, of course!! Good Luck, JB
I ordered an F250 Lariat CC V10 4x4 srw swb etc etc on 11/2/98 from Isbell Ford in Oklahoma - they advertise on the web that they will sell any Ford at $99 under invoice. I had planned to fly out there from Nevada on an American Airlines voucher that I got for being bumped on a flight last year. The voucher is to expire in May. After waiting 21+ weeks, I have really been stewing lately, expecially seeing others getting their trucks in short times. If I had known that the Lariat would cause such a delay I would have gone with the XLT and added the options that I realy wanted - I can take or leave the leather and the deluxe wheels. Anyway, I called the Ford customer "care" number this morning to complain and tell them that I was about ready to cancel my order and get a Dodge off a lot. They looked up my order # and told me that as of 3/30/99 it had been put on hold because of material availability - after already waiting 21 weeks!!! A little sympathy, but no real help followed. So I got off the phone and wrote an email to the salesman at Isbell that I had called Ford and the information that I had gotten. Told them that I was this close to cancelling because of the airline thing and the fact that I am moving to the San Diego area in a few weeks and it would be pretty dumb to take delivery of a new truck AFTER moving, as I wanted the truck to help with the move.
So, later this afternoon I checked my snail mail. I had about 4 or 5 days piled up in the mailbox because the wife and I had been in CA househunting. In the mail was a letter from Isbell Ford with a check refunding my deposit, informing me that Isbell Ford is going out of business and my order is being cancelled. So - 5 months of waiting and anticipating down the drain!! I started to wonder what happens to an order when the dealer goes out of business - can another dealer pick it up? I called the Ford number again and they couldn't tell me anything. I then called the sales manager at a local dealer here in Las Vegas, gave him my sad story and asked if there was any way for another dealer to pick up my order so I wouldn't have to start all over again (at this point I've about given up on getting any truck at all). He said that he didn't think there was any way to to that, but offered to check his inventory and his orders for anything similar to mine if I thought I might want to buy one from him. He also said that he rarely has anything on the lot because the Super Duty's sell so fast.
It turns out that he has an F250 XLT swb srw CC coming in this week (shipped 3/29) that isn't spoken for yet. This vehicle is almost identical to the Lariat I had ordered except for color (it's Wedgewood blue instead of hunter green), seats (graphite cloth 40-20-40 instead of the prarie tan leather), wheels (cast aluminum instead of the deluxe aluminum), tires (235 instead of 265), and it has the overhead clearance lights which I really don't want. However, it has 4x4 ESOF offroad, trailer tow package, remote keyless entry, power drivers seat, cruise control, V10, auto, 3.73 limited slip, rear chrome step bumper, CD stereo, privacy glass and rear slider, high altitude setup, and the PTO transmission (which I hadn't ordered). I told him that it has pretty much everything that I wanted, but that I figured he wasn't making any deals on Super Duty's since they are in such demand. He told me that the sticker price is $32940 (including, I think, an $895 factory discount), thought for a minute and said that I could have it for $30940. It's not $99 under invoice, and I haven't yet figured out what the invoice will be on it, but that sounds like a decent price(any opinions out there?).
Anyway, I ran down to the dealership and gave them $500 to put my name on it. It should be here within the week, and I can get my deposit back if I change my mind. I'm gonna keep shopping when I go back to CA this weekend. At this point after waiting 5 months to no avail, $31000 for this vehicle sounds pretty good to me since I can get it next week and I don't have to drive it back from Oklahoma. The loaded Lariat that I had ordered for $99 under invoice was going to cost me just under $30K.
I guess the moral of the story is that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
One more thing - does anybody have any knowledge or opinions of what will happen to my earlier order? I still wonder if there is any chance of getting that Lariat for my original price.
I still have my truck and still getting poor fuel mileage. The dealers says nothing is wrong with it and won't tell me what I should expect to get. I am only getting 14.6 tops on the highway. I now have over 6000 miles on the truck which I think it should be broken in now. Oh by the way I have changed dealers for service. I think the dealer that I bought the truck from sunbathed it the other day. I went on the all experts web sithe and asked some questions to a Ford diesel expert who said that a truck like mine should be getting approx 18.5 mpg. He also told me to get the dealer to check specific things. I told my dealer about this and his answer was not to believe everything I read on the internet. He went furhter to tell me that he had checked everything and change the oil in 1 hour and 42 minutes. I was not satisifed so I went to a Ford only dealer in a larger city and talked with the service manager and he said he would be glad for me to start bringing my truck there for sevice . He pointed out that to do the test that the truck needed would take a min. of 4 hours. He check my truck and said that he found a bad command in the computer relating to exhaust back pressure, but he didn't think that it would help the fuel mileage. Well, guys if it takes 4 hours to run the test only, then how did my original dealer run the test, change oil? Why didn't he find the bad command if ffhe run the test. Now back to my original problem. I think my truck should be getting better fuel mileage if I do have 3:73 gears. I notice one of the posting says that he is turning a little under 2100RPM at approx 70 with 4:10 gears. I have 2 questions. Will someone that nows for sure with a PSD that they have 3:73 gears please tell me tell what RPM they are turning at 70 MPH. Also I can't find the posting on Level 10 phone number, will someone who has it please post it or their site address, or mailing address. I also read where someone has complain about the whine of the Turbo, is the turbo suppose to have whine, mind doesn't? Word to the wise to those who are thinkg about buying a new truck. In some past psoting, it has been said to buy your truck for a large dealer, I heartly support this also don't make the mistake I did which is to buy a truck from a dealer that is a Dodge/Ford dealer. Be sure to go to a large dealer that has good mechanics and sells Ford Products only. forgive me for complaing and being so long wended, but when you buy a truck that cost as much as the Superduties with PSD 4x4 with the Lariet packages you would like to to perform like others. Thanks guys.
mikey43 When I moved to CA, I was told before I could get license I would have to put the Calf Polution stuff on my truck. However, it was a gas engine, but will you have to add anuthing to a diesel that you purchase in another state when you move to Calf.?
Lemans....the truck he is considering purchasing has the V-10 gas engine, not the PSD
Mikey43....I agree with Fetz, you should be looking in California for a truck which will meet the tougher Ca. emissions standards, that would be much better than converting/modifications to meet them
lemans & texaxzach - According to CA DMV, any vehicle meeting the Fed emmission standards can be registered in CA without adding any modifications - just a one time $300 fee.
fetz - According to the dealer (how much should I trust this, I don't know), the high altitude option should make it run better at high altitudes, but not affect it at sea level. I think it's something in the chip that adjusts the air/fuel mixture based on the oxygen sensor. We will, by the way, be driving to Mammoth, etc. in the Sierras to go camping periodically. Does anybody know if I'm wrong here?
Singer - Thanks for the good advice. I called Gary in KY, but he's on vacation until 4/12. I talked to somebody in scheduling (Gwen's old #) and he didn't know what could be done. I called original dealer that's going out of business and was told that there was nothing that could be done with it as it was being cancelled. I talked to several othere dealers (sales managers)who all said that they would be more than happy to pick up the order if they could - half the work is already done. None knew how to do it.
Lemans.....after reading your post, I ran an errand or two which entailed freeway driving....at 70 m.p.h. I am turning 2100 r.p.m. with the PSD, 3.73 gears and 265/75R-16 tires...bear in mind I have the 6 speed manual transmission
Just got back from the NY Auto Show, and have some good news for the gasoline crowd.
For model year 2000, not only will the Super Duty (and the Excursion) get the upgraded 5.4 V8 (the same new output of 260 hp/345 lb-ft), but the V10 is already announced as becoming 300/430, a decent increase from the previous 275/410, and more competitive with the Ram V10 (310/450).
Also shows where Ford's priorities are - the Navigator in the Lincoln display was open for public scrutiny; people were in, on, over, and under that thing. But once again, every Super Duty truck was locked - all you could do was look at them.
Well I went out truck shopping today and fell in love with the F250-SD 4x4. Then came home and started surfing and stumbled across you all. After reading way back in this and previous threads I am a bit worried. Here is what I think I want 250-SD 4x4 V10 CC SB XLT, any ideas how long it will take? Also I am in Dallas, any hints on good dealers here?
Sam Redstone - I ordered the same as you're interested in 1/26. Picking it up today! 8.5 weeks - much faster than I first anticipated after reading all of these posts since November. Saw my truck this past Saturday - well worth the wait! Go for it...
Redstone.....ordered my F350 4x4 CC PSD LB 6 speed on Feb. 12, picked it up March 19, 35 days from order to drive out. I highly recommend two of my customers who are the sales and fleet managers at Prestige Ford in Garland. I will e-mail you directly with their names and email addresses.
Just a few odds and ends here. - For the person with the poor fuel mileage. Since no one can find anything wrong with the engine have they look at other things that maybe causing it. Make sure your tran. is shifting at the correct speeds and at the same time every time. Also check to see if you have a brake not releasing all the way. I had both these thing happen to an old car I had and it killed the mileage. - Mikey43 this $300 DMV fee that you talk about is this something new? Because when I move here I didn't have to pay it, but that was a long time ago. Also the car I brought with me was old so maybe it based on how old you car is, maybe you can get around this by keeping the truck register in NV for the 1st year. - High alt package, I don't have this on my 99, but when we went camping last month at around 6500ft. The engine would idle high for a few seconds before come back down to normal idle speed. I didn't notice any other changes with the truck.
One more time guys if you will bear with me. The dealer says he has looked at everything and could not find anything wrong. I asked him what fuel mileage should I expect. His answer was that Ford does not publish any figures on the SD. Question, in the past owners of the SD have published figures for fuel mileage between 18 to 21 MPG from the first day they have owned their truck. My truck is a PSD, long bed, Crew Cab, auto trans, 3:73 gears, 265-85R16 wheels, 4 x 4. For those of you out there that have this setup in their truck, what fuel mileage are you getting and what is realistic to expect. I have 6100 miles with a topper on my truck and getting on a good day on the road empty approx 14.7 miles and sometimes only 13.8 driving around 70MPH. Is this the best to expect or are you guys getting better?
Picked up my F250 SD XLT CC V10 SB 4x4 last night. All I can say is... it was worth the wait! Question - Where have you all been locating the electric brake controller and how easy was it to install? I have the Ford 7-wire hookups that came with the trailer package.
Congratulations on you new truck. What a coincidence - I picked up my F250SD XLT CC V10 SB 4x4 yesterday too(Wedgewood Blue). And it WAS worth the wait. I immediately went around the corner and bought a set of nerf bars for $275 and saved $50 by installing them myself. Not too difficult - but I hadn't been on my back under a car or truck for many years. It sure looked clean under there. Next is the liner and shell.
Unfortunately I'm now out of town for a few days and the only person who gets to drive it is my wife (who loves it as much as I do, by the way). What I really can't wait for is Saturday when I'm gonna get out of town and check out the 4WD. That should be FUN!!!
Hey guys. Just a quick question. What kind of mpg difference am I looking at with the 4.10 ratio compared to the 3.73. My truck is a V8 sc short box, automatic, 4x4. But it was built with the 4.10 instead of the 3.73. Dealer had it correct on order, but when it arrived it had the 4.10. Thanks
I have the same truck as you except for the tranny. I have a 6 speed manual. Tires are the same as well as the rear end. I the best mpg I've gotten to date is 17.7. That was unloaded at low speeds. On a trip to Wyoming at 70-75 mph with a 800 lb. (?) utility trailer resulted in about 13.7 mpg. I have about 7500 miles on my truck now. It seems that my MPG is really dependant on speed. I did not expect high 13's going to Wyoming. I doubt the trailer had a whole lot to do with it. On another trip to Idaho with my 2500 lb. camper on in relatively high winds going 70 mph resulted in 10 mpg. Every day driving gets me anywhere from 15.5 to 17.5 mpg depending on how much freeway and speed. I was a little disappointed at first (especially with the 10 mpg), but I think it's worth all the power the diesel puts at my fingertips. I'm hoping if I slow down a little with my camper it may improve some. I don't know if my posting makes you feel any better or not, but you seem like an information junkie (like me) so there ya go.
Thanks Guys for the response, a few comments: bubba19 I am not sure, that is the reason I asked the question of what RPM are trucks turning with the PSD and 3:73 gears the other day and received responses back that said that they were turning 2100 at 70MPH. That is what mine is turning. However, is there any kind of identification on the rear-end that I can determined what I really do have?
Hurkamer The cost of fuel used is not the issued. Matter of fact, I have been successful in life and paid cash for my truck and could purchase a few more if I wanted to. yes, if I was overly concern with fuel mileage due to cost, then I probly would have not puchased a truck at all. I would have bought one of those 4 clyinder cracker boxes. As far as speed goes, I have a 65 GTO Conv. with 3 duces setting on a highly modified engine, so speed is not the concern. However, when one purchases something that he has been told that would give performance, then I expect to receive that performance for money spent. If everyone on the conference and other that I talked too before purchasing the truck would have said that 13 to 15 is what to expected, then I would be satisifed. Now you say that you are getting 18.5 to 20. Reverse the table, if I were getting 18.5 to 20 and you were getting 13.5 to 14 would you be satisfied or would you be looking to fine out what is wrong with your truck. Please understand, I am not trying to be a smart [non-permissible content removed] here, but trying to explain to you and others on the conference why I am very dissatisfied with my truck. Other than the fuel mileage, I love the truck. I have even purchased a nice colored matched Leer topper and stopped by another dealer other that the one I purchased the truck from and bought the Ford correct mud flaps for both the front and back. We are planning on purchasing a fifth wheel trailer shortly. Now that is another story in itself as to which brand and type to buy. I mean fiberglass or alum. etc. I plan to stay with a max length of 32 to 35 feet with duel slideouts. Does anyone out there have an recommendations.
Hurkamer, I do appreciate you comments and receive them well, I hope you understand my concern and I do appreciate all the comments help from everyone on the conference. Thanks everybody.
I have a suggestion that may seem off the wall but it may not hurt to try. The following is a snip of what another SD owner had done to his truck and I thought that it may help you with your MPG problem.
"Had the new (or old) tc installed, along with the solenoid and the new download three weeks ago. The fix has 1,500 miles on it and it is perfect. Totally quiet and shifts like a dream. I firmly believe the guys with power problems need to have the updated shift download installed and their problems will be history... Get it done and DON'T worry. It will be like driving a new truck."
I have waited 15 weeks and 3 days to make this post. F350 SC LB V10 4X4 SRW 3.73LS came today and is awesome. Rides and drives great. I have been reading these SD posts everday since the 1st of Dec. and it has help me get through these past months.
bubba19-My truck came with the 4" blocks and it is really tall.
lemans-I would recomend taking your PSD to a diesel injection service. They know alot more about your engine than the dealers. I know of a Dodge Cummins that had the same problem you have and the diesel service found alot of adjustments set wrong by the dealer. I sure think they could help you.
For everyone waiting for their delivery hang in there it's surely worth the wait.
For anyone who is waiting for their truck to arrive (and everyone else for that matter), you owe it to yourself to go to the www.ford-diesel.com web site and browse around.
Specifically, read the article entitled "Birth of Tyrannosaurus Red" by Bob Stephens for a VERY informative and entertaining article on the Super Duty assembly plant. The author went there and watched his truck built, and has done an excellent write-up on the experience. Access the article at http://www.ford-diesel.com/contents/getitems.php3?Birth%20of%20Tyrannosaurus%20Red.
Sorry for the confusion. I actually got your first one and just overlooked it. The one I just posted is wrong... I should probably stay in today I think I am dangerous
I recently spoke with someone at the Kentucky plant. He informed me that the new breed of SuperDuties (Post Feb 99) were coming with modifications like: A larger turbo - for reduced turbo whine. A heating coil on the Turbo New Tungsten/Carbide Injectors - less likely to wear unevenly &/or fail prematurely? New Exhaust system - that allows Ford to get rid of the catalytic converter, Changes to the air box intake - moved it to the front removing it from the fender well Intake Cover Change - Cosmetic? Improved the fuel filter performance and location.
He also stated that all further trucks built after March would have the 2" block rather than the 4". he admitted that there have been "some problems" with the injectors on the early PSD's and that Ford has put together a "team" to determine the facts & extent of the problem.
I'm thinking you might have a truck with injectors that aren't up to snuff. You might call regional Ford Service and request to be put on a list of people to call if a TSB is written on that injector problem. Of take it back and request the new style injector.
Also on the Gear Ratio: there is a tag on the rear "pumpkin" carrier normally on the passenger side of the cover near the top that will state your ratio and if it is limited slip or not. One of the Ford troubleshooters that I talked to out of Detroit told me when I was picking mine to stay away from the 3.73 as it would "underdrive" the wheels. He said for pulling and a mix of 60% town 40% towing, 4.10 was his gear ratio recommendation. he stated that the 3.73 ratio was best for long distance, and over the road, lightly loaded hauling situations. He remarked that 3.73 may acutally lower mileage in heavier trucks in city driving. So I went with the 4.10
I'm believe you have a mixture of problems. I'd have another shop look at it. I don't know how many dealers you have been to, but from experience the quality of service greatly differs from one to another. Ask around for ones that have a great reputation and look for quality service awards in the office area, these will be prominently displayed. Don't be afraid to ask for a shop foreman and ask him straight out if they have won any service awards. Keep records of your concerns and claims. I would bring up all the modifications being made mid-year as support to your argument that something may really be wrong. Have them go further than superficial tests and do more heavy duty diagnostics. Be firm when telling them to raise the issue to the next (regional)level if your not satisfied with their conclusions. But if there really isn't anything wrong with the mechanics of your truck be prepared to accept it. Then feel free to make whatever aftermarket modifications you feel are best to improve performance.
I love my F-350 and wouldn't trade it for anything else. But I also old enough to know there will always be that 1% of vehicles that are just plain "bum" from the factory. Hope yours isn't really one of those. Hope some of this rambling helps you out somehow.
F250 SD CC 4x4 Lariat 156" V10 Auto 3.73 Limited Slip. Ordered 12/7/98, picked up 4/8/99 in CA. 17 weeks seems about par for this configuration according to other posts I've read on this board.
I've never owned anything bigger than a 1/2 ton before, but the truck rides nicer than anything I've ever had. Very smooth and quiet on the highway and idles like a dream. I'm happy with the leather that came with the Lariat pkg -- this was some concern. Only 120 miles on it so far, so I don't have anything to say about fuel milage yet.
I was surprised that there was no rear bumper, but I was so happy to get the truck that I figured I could deal with that later. Planning to put on a class V receiver, then I'll bug the dealer about the bumper. Anyone else get theirs sans bumper? The window sticker has "Bumper, Chrome W/LWR Trim" as the first item under the "exterior" heading. The salesman seemed a bit confused on the bumper and I didn't want to leave the truck sitting on the lot any longer than the 1/2 day it had already sat there -- too many people crawling all over it...
I ordered the same truck configuration that you did in CA and two dealers told me I could only order the 4.30 in limited slip. They stated that this is only the case in CA. I talked to the KY. plant and they thought that I would be able to order the 3.73 in limited slip. I sure would like to know the truth on this matter.
Some really good advice you gave lemans, however, I believe the problem lies more with the system than the mechanics. When you bring a vehicle in for any type of driveability problem, especially poor fuel mileage, the techs hook up the vehicle to the computer and if there are no codes, in most cases, that's about as far as they go. There could very well be all kinds of adjustments out of specs, but Ford, or any other dealer, will only pay for work performed. Also, any attempt to repair the vehicle counts against the lemon law, so you can be pretty sure that unless a specific problem is found, very few techs will do any more than hook it up to the computer. Fair? Of course not, but a fact of life.
The technical reference that AKMarkus posted seems a bit odd to me. It shows that the 3.73 Limited Slip V10 is not an option in CA. But...the sticker I pealed off my truck (the one that Ford attaches with the pricing that only the customer is allowed to peal off) says that my truck is a "1999 SD F250 4X4 Crew Cab Lariat 156" WB Styleside 6.8L EFI V-10 Engine Electronic 4 SPD Auto Trans", and one of the "optional Equipment" items listed below clearly says "3.73 Ratio Limited Slip Axle $270.00".
Of course it also says this on my original order, and the copy I have of the FAX my dealer received from Ford back in December confirming the "Dealer Submitted" truck order.
If someone out there still doesn't believe, I'll be happy to crawl under the truck to get the code off the trans (or where ever it is) if someone can tell me where to look.
I'm confident that I have the 3.73 Lmt Slp V10 Auto Trans, and I know I live in California.
Hi, I am planning on ordering a new Super Duty CC in the next few weeks and I am wondering if anyone knows of any cheap dealers in the Montana,Idaho, Washington areas that I could call. My best deal here in Montana so far is 6% over invoice. Sounds like that deal can be beat elsewhere. If you know of any dealers, you can email me directly at jmcgrath@in-tch.com.
Lance: Go back and look again. The 3.73 ls is an allowable option in CA with the auto trans. With the 5-sd manual, the only choice is the 4.30 ls.
I live in CA and wanted to get the 3.73 ls with the 5-sp manual, but the factory said no go. Since I wanted the manual more than the 3.73, I accepted the 4.30. (I don't like the auto trans telling me when to shift in the mountains. Besides, I'm still a teenaged hot-rodder at heart.)
After 2500 miles I'm happy with the 5-sd, 4.30 combination. First, there was no charge for the ls, since this rear end is std in CA. Second, I have one heck of a "granny" gear for manuevering a fifth wheel in mountain campgrounds. However, most of the use so far has been commuting to work on city streets. Mileage so far seems to average about 12.5 mph - probably as good as I would have done with the 3.73. I was concerned about keeping up with the traffic on the highway, but this hasn't been a problem due to the 5th gear being overdrive. It cranks about 3000 rpm at 75 mph.
Restone: Not correct. You have a choice of 3.73 or 4.30 in all 50 states with an automatic transmission and everywhere except California with a 5 spd manual. In California with the 5 spd manual, you can only get the 4.30 ls. Follow the link to meadowlandford in post #97 from Marcus to see the full table of choices.
My understanding is that Ford has to do a full 100,000 mi lifecycle smog certification for every engine/trans/differential combination in CA. Hence, limited choices.
Well I am getting ready to order my truck. Any opinions on whether the Lariat will slow the order down? I have hear a few stories of 30/35 days on orders, are these XLT orders?
I want to order the following in Lariat or XLT depending on Lariat lead times...
250 SD CC 156inSB SRW V10 4.30LS Auto
Any comments suggestions, this is just a commuter vehicle no towing. Is the V10/4.30 going to kill me in MPG's?
4x4 4.3ls with auto/V10 - I'm getting 10-11 in city driving and 13-14 hwy with no load. (And thats at 6500 feet up.) Much better than my old 460V8.
I'm very happy with the power combo of the V10/4.3. I'm turning about 2700 RPM at 75mph. Now, if only the weather will clear a little so I can try truck and camper in the mtns. Watch out Monarch Pass, here I come.

http://www.wheels.com
posts auto industry information including build delays.
However they haven't updated the SuperDuty info since Feb. At that time it showed these options as limited availability:
V8, V10, PSD (I guess you need to buy the electric or CNG version if you want an engine fast ;-)
Automatic trans
CrewCab
SRW 4x4, DRW
Lariat
I'm betting that ordering more than one increases the wait exponentially (PSD auto CC DRW 4x4 lariat like I want)
for the past three weeks, my truck has been at the top of my dealer's list, but has been passed over because (choose one) of the options wasn't buildable this week. Next week, that one's good, but another isn't. Ford won't start it until all options are available this week, so that may also be affecting your order.
BTW, I did get a nice letter from Ford promising to build my truck just as soon as they can, and advising me to contact my dealer for updates.

Are you sure you want to go with a truck that has the high altitude option (option code 428)?
If you're moving to San Diego, you will be virtually at sea level, and that truck will be tuned mainly for running in the High Sierras!
Something to think about.
When I moved to CA, I was told before I could get license I would have to put the Calf Polution stuff on my truck. However, it was a gas engine, but will you have to add anuthing to a diesel that you purchase in another state when you move to Calf.?
Mikey43....I agree with Fetz, you should be looking in California for a truck which will meet the tougher Ca. emissions standards, that would be much better than converting/modifications to meet them
According to CA DMV, any vehicle meeting the Fed emmission standards can be registered in CA without adding any modifications - just a one time $300 fee.
fetz -
According to the dealer (how much should I trust this, I don't know), the high altitude option should make it run better at high altitudes, but not affect it at sea level. I think it's something in the chip that adjusts the air/fuel mixture based on the oxygen sensor. We will, by the way, be driving to Mammoth, etc. in the Sierras to go camping periodically. Does anybody know if I'm wrong here?

Thanks for the good advice.
Thanks

Unfortunately I'm now out of town for a few days and the only person who gets to drive it is my wife (who loves it as much as I do, by the way). What I really can't wait for is Saturday when I'm gonna get out of town and check out the 4WD. That should be FUN!!!
Happy motoring
Mike
Are you sure you have the 3.73 gear.
I don't know if my posting makes you feel any better or not, but you seem like an information junkie (like me) so there ya go.
bubba19
I am not sure, that is the reason I asked the question of what RPM are trucks turning with the PSD and 3:73 gears the other day and received responses back that said that they were turning 2100 at 70MPH. That is what mine is turning. However, is there any kind of identification on the rear-end that I can determined what I really do have?
Hurkamer
The cost of fuel used is not the issued.
Thanks everybody.
but it may not hurt to try.
Fred.
Thanks

bubba19-My truck came with the 4" blocks and it is
really tall.
lemans-I would recomend taking your PSD to a
diesel injection service. They know alot
more about your engine than the dealers. I
know of a Dodge Cummins that had the same
problem you have and the diesel service
found alot of adjustments set wrong by the
dealer. I sure think they could help you.
For everyone waiting for their delivery hang in there it's surely worth the wait.

A larger turbo - for reduced turbo whine.
A heating coil on the Turbo
New Tungsten/Carbide Injectors - less likely to
wear unevenly &/or fail prematurely?
New Exhaust system - that allows Ford to get rid of the catalytic converter,
Changes to the air box intake - moved it to the
front removing it from the fender well
Intake Cover Change - Cosmetic?
Improved the fuel filter performance and location.
He also stated that all further trucks built after
March would have the 2" block rather than the 4".
he admitted that there have been "some problems"
with the injectors on the early PSD's and that Ford has put together a "team" to determine the facts & extent of the problem.
I'm thinking you might have a truck with injectors
that aren't up to snuff. You might call regional
Ford Service and request to be put on a list of
people to call if a TSB is written on that injector problem. Of take it back and request the new style injector.
Also on the Gear Ratio: there is a tag on the rear
"pumpkin" carrier normally on the passenger side
of the cover near the top that will state your
ratio and if it is limited slip or not.
have another shop look at it. Then feel free to make whatever aftermarket modifications you
feel are best to improve performance.

I am planning on ordering a new Super Duty CC in the next few weeks and I am wondering if anyone knows of any cheap dealers in the Montana,Idaho, Washington areas that I could call. My best deal here in Montana so far is 6% over invoice. Sounds like that deal can be beat elsewhere. If you know of any dealers, you can email me directly at jmcgrath@in-tch.com.
Thanks,
I live in CA and wanted to get the 3.73 ls with the 5-sp manual, but the factory said no go.
Jim

My understanding is that Ford has to do a full 100,000 mi lifecycle smog certification for every engine/trans/differential combination in CA. Hence, limited choices.
Jim
It looks like the 350/V10 has a choice of LS (3.73 & 4.30)
The 250/V10 has only the 4.30 LS...
Redstone
I want to order the following in Lariat or XLT depending on Lariat lead times...
250 SD CC 156inSB SRW V10 4.30LS Auto
Any comments suggestions, this is just a commuter vehicle no towing. Is the V10/4.30 going to kill me in MPG's?
Thanks

4x4 4.3ls with auto/V10 - I'm getting 10-11 in city driving and 13-14 hwy with no load. (And thats at 6500 feet up.) Much better than my old 460V8.
I'm very happy with the power combo of the V10/4.3. I'm turning about 2700 RPM at 75mph. Now, if only the weather will clear a little so I can try truck and camper in the mtns. Watch out Monarch Pass, here I come.
