Just broke 600 miles this weekend. Everything's great except for the fact that the Miles to Empty indicator in the overhead console has read 0 miles ever since I filled up for the second time. Anyone else have this problem? Is it user error? I just pressed the reset button on the trip milage indicator as I did on my first fill up.
the 99 Super Duty, Power Stroke diesel owners using?
I would like to know if anyone had to
replace a Transmission in a 1999 F-250 sd
at 20,000 miles yet ?
I ordered it on February 13, and the dealer told me it would be 8 weeks. Guess what - last Saturday was exactly 8 weeks. So much for long waits for the Lariat package. I highly recommend my dealership: Matt Ford in Buckner, Missouri. It's a small dealership just east of Independence/Kansas City on 24 Highway.
Time to accessorize - cha-ching!
I have the 350,CC,V-10,4x4,LWB,
I pull a gooseneck six horse WW.
I assume you may have questions on the clearance between the bed/tailgate with a gooseneck and a SD?
I'd get on the dealer if it's been longer than 8 weeks. Remember as the customer you can always choose to vote with your dollar, take that dollar where you get the best service. Don't take any .... from the dealer either. There are plenty of dealers around with good truck allotments. . .
I believe it's Delo 400 that is also popular. I
personally have never heard of Delo 400 until I started reading this forum. I have been using Castrol 20W-50 in my gasoline machines, this diesel is a new ball game for me. Does anybody out there have any comparative oil tests that were done by an impartial testing facility? I tried to find something on the Internet last night and just came up with SAE,ATSM and some other agency but couldn't find any comparisons except on the Amsoil website.
Delvac 1 (made by the mobil 1 folks)(think it's 5W-40, can't remember for sure)
Valvoline Cummins Blue
Shell Rotella
Chevron Delo 400
Walmart or other house brands meeting CF-4
All in 15W-40
Don't use SI only rated oils!!!!!!!!
I learned about the Edmunds forum from the vmag site over a year ago. But they shut it down a while back and now it is back up under a slightly different web address.
I have scrolled through most of the postings regarding the SD so I am relatively up to speed. I am going to order a 2000 as soon as they become available. (kcram is that the day they start to build them - do you know when they will accept orders?)Looking for a good dealer that will treat me right at close to invoice in Florida or anywhere else on the east coast. Can anyone offer suggestions.
Also, I too am caught up in the PSD vs V10 decision. I know it depends on how I drive and why etc. But it comes down to a simple choice of noisy good mileage or quiet bad mileage. I plan on keeping the truck for the next 10 years and I do not care if the PSD pays for itself or not. I like them both for different reasons and I am willing to pay for the PSD....just can't make up my mind....HELP! OK, Ok,...I intend to put a camper on it and crawl into the woods and mountains as often as possible.
Thanks Guys!
PSD v V10? Well..... I researched this in great depth and it finally seems to come down to personal choice. The pro's and con's for each engine seem to balance each other out. Indeed, the con's for one person will be pro's for another, i.e. the noise and smell of the diesel will be like music and perfume to one, migraine and an evil stench to another. Cost issues seem to even out over time, and aren't a major factor for you anyway. You'll find extreme supporters for either type, but ultimately you'll have to make a "gut" decision that feel right for you. Personally, I chose the V10 (which should be more powerful for the 2000 m.y.) with the intention of adding a supercharger at a later date if I felt the need. Good luck with your own research, and enjoy negotiating a fair price with whoever you finally go with.

I sounds like you have the rig as I do.
I had to flip the axles on my WW and have the local welding/4wd shop install a sliding connection on the down tube for the goose neck. Cost about $350.
I gained about 4 inches and the trailer rides alot closer to level. BUT the horses have a good step to get in the thing, possibly a big minus for the folks who rodeo only with their outfit. But for me getting that thing out of a muddy trailhead during late elk season should be a plus.
So I did not look at lowering it.
I will still probably end up having to weld up a tailgate that I use when I know I am going into rough country to give me a little extra clearance. So if I don't pay attention and bang the gooseneck into the tailgate, I won't have to buy one from the dealer. I have run it around town and up and down the highway moving horses and I don't seem to get the tailgate too close to the trailer.
I would think that with your newer trailer that you might not have to do anything if you keep it on paved or dirt and away from irrigation ditches.
I hope this helps

Here are a few comments on a variety of topics:
Mileage - I got 15.5mpg on the first tank. I refilled and took it on a short trip this weekend (300+ miles of mixed speed limit highway driving), and although I haven't filled it yet, my mileage computer says I'm averaging 19.6mpg so far on this tank.
Bed Height - My truck came in with 2-inch blocks, and doesn't seem extremely high. I bought a 7"-drop ball mount for the receiver hitch, and it will work fine for my utility trailer and pop-up. I'm buying a new 5th wheel, and don't anticipate problems with hitch height.
Floor Mats - I bought full sets of Husky Liners for the front and back seats, including the center hump liner for the front. Pricey ($170 altogether), but NOTHING's going to dirty my carpets. I highly recommend Husky Liners.
Bug Deflector - I bought an EGR No-Drill 3D bug deflector ($89 installed) which looks really sharp! EGR's IRL is http://www.egrinc.com/.
Lid - I ordered an ARE lid which should arrive next week. I'll comment on it later.
If you're in the Kansas City area, visit Pickup Palace on 40 highway by the sports complex. They have a great staff and access to lots of accessories for your truck.
For those waiting on trucks to deliver - hold on, the wait is worth it! For those contemplating purchases - go for it!
Otherwise this huge 4x4 monster is great. I've had it for 2 weeks and made 2 round trips to San Diego - very comfortable on long hauls. Also had it on trails at Red Rock Canyon and the 4x4 works great. Got some minor bush scratches that can most likely be buffed out - didn't buy this truck to be a show car anyway.

Any recommendation on good dealer to work with in the St Louis West County area?
The July 25th date is a production date - usually orders can go in about 2 weeks prior to that, but dealers would not have pricing information at that point, just specs and options. To order a 2000 in July would be on a "price handshake" - this usually means you agree to a particular percentage increase over the known 1999 prices.
redstone,
The increased horsepower engines are strictly for 2000s.
on February 24. From what information I can get off of the 800 Ford order update number, my truck was built this week and is in transit now, should be here in a week or two. That's about 8 weeks from order to build date. I'll post a message when it arrives. Can't wait!
and got 12.5 miles pulling a 20' bass boat to and
from the lake. It's great that you don't have to
"dog" the engine all the time, the v-10 has enough
power it seems you just use the first 1/2 inch of
the gas pedal. Its good to know it's there when
you need it. As for some of you fellows deciding
between a PSD & the V-10, my deciding factor was
I keep mine in the garage and don't like the way
the diesel smells up the garage, my opion......
Seems like my vents also blow cooler air than the
outside temp, something I really like...
Also, anyone know if the Banks System is ready for
the V-10 yet ? Last time I talked to them (Jan)
they said March....
Also, got my Ford Blanket in the mail this week.
Ford is being nice sending me a touch-up paint kit
and a Ford Blanket... (I did get the Lariat pkg)
The truck is really worth the wait.
The Brown Fish Man
I need to get steps (I think Westin nerf's) because I'm 6'0" slide across the seat getting out (bad habit) and my wife's only 5'3" so she has some trouble (although the pass handle is nice).
I only have a little under 300 miles but first 2/3 tank got 18 mpg (I was worried because of some of the previous entries). A friend has a PSD and claims a lot less but he runs into to turbo land every shift. Seems like driving style is a big factor.
I put a sport master slant side, hinged tonneau and it looks sharp and seems like it will be a good deal for getting in the back and put a slip resistant Pendaliner.
Good truckin'!
The Westin nerf bars are nice. I have them on my Ram. I'm also 5'3" and they work great for getting in and out. No more ripped skirts! :-)
Got Line-X sprayed in last Sat (looks great), added a 12,000 lb class V receiver hitch (haven't towed yet), adding a Ford alarm, Ford chrome rear bumper, and an ARE tonneau lid this week.
Love the truck, lots of power, wife and kids are pleased. I get a laugh every time I think about the post from the guy claiming he's never used more than 1/2 inch acceleration peddle depression -- so true! The wait is worth it.
it is 2 inches lower than others in the lot. How much of a process and cost would it be to get it higher like they used to make it? Appreciate any help.
