Because I want Limited Slip. I wasn't considering the 4.30, until I saw that it appears to be the only Limited Slip option for the 250SD 4x4 V10. Although when pricing via www.carprices.com they seem to imply that the 3.73LS is available...

Redstone, as I posted in an earlier msg, I have the 250 SD 4x4 V10 3.73 Limited Slip with the Automatic trans. I live in California. If you want the 3.73 LS, order it. My Lariat CC took 17 weeks.

Just broke 600 miles this weekend. Everything's great except for the fact that the Miles to Empty indicator in the overhead console has read 0 miles ever since I filled up for the second time. Anyone else have this problem? Is it user error? I just pressed the reset button on the trip milage indicator as I did on my first fill up.

Just curious, what brands and weights of oil are
the 99 Super Duty, Power Stroke diesel owners using?
  • texaszachtexaszach Member Posts: 119
jas4.... I used Shell Rotella T 15W40 in my 97 PSD and will continue its use in my new 99. The one gallon containers are great when ones vehicle has such large capacity. For what its worth, I use Wix brand oil filters in my PSD.

    Hi there,
I would like to know if anyone had to
    replace a Transmission in a 1999 F-250 sd
    at 20,000 miles yet ?

My truck came in today! I'll pick it up after work: SD F250 CC Lariat 4x4 PSD SB 3.73LS in Bright Amber/Light Prairie Tan.

I ordered it on February 13, and the dealer told me it would be 8 weeks. Guess what - last Saturday was exactly 8 weeks. So much for long waits for the Lariat package. I highly recommend my dealership: Matt Ford in Buckner, Missouri. It's a small dealership just east of Independence/Kansas City on 24 Highway.

    Time to accessorize - cha-ching!

    Hello J-J

    I have the 350,CC,V-10,4x4,LWB,
I pull a gooseneck six horse WW.
I assume you may have questions on the clearance between the bed/tailgate with a gooseneck and a SD?
  • connonconnon Member Posts: 52
Wow, a 250 Lariat in only 8 weeks!Ordered mine last week in Jan. and am still waiting. Dealer says he still has not even gotten a build date.I look forward to getting a unit loaded the way I want it, but had I known it would take this long I would have bought one off someones lot.At this rate , it will be 3 months before I take delivery. Is this normal for N.J.?
  • AKMarkusAKMarkus Member Posts: 21
My original truck order took 8 weeks exactly back last August (delivery in Sept). I was talking to my friend at McRee Ford and he relates that they are coming in now within 4-5 weeks from the date of order. So much for the backlog rumors. Those Kentucky boys can sure crank out the trucks!

I'd get on the dealer if it's been longer than 8 weeks. Remember as the customer you can always choose to vote with your dollar, take that dollar where you get the best service. Don't take any .... from the dealer either. There are plenty of dealers around with good truck allotments. . .

texaszach- Thanks for your response, it seems Shell Rotella is a favorite for a lot of people.
I believe it's Delo 400 that is also popular. I
personally have never heard of Delo 400 until I started reading this forum. I have been using Castrol 20W-50 in my gasoline machines, this diesel is a new ball game for me. Does anybody out there have any comparative oil tests that were done by an impartial testing facility? I tried to find something on the Internet last night and just came up with SAE,ATSM and some other agency but couldn't find any comparisons except on the Amsoil website.
  • lemanslemans Member Posts: 43
I planned on using Rotella T 15W40. I have asked some of the guys in the office here that have diesels and a couple of them said that they are mixing 50% Rotella T with 50% of synthetic oil. Has any of you experience diesel users ever heard of doing this. Even the one dirving a Mercedes said that he is doing this.
  • markbuckmarkbuck Member Posts: 1,021
My favorite diesel oils in order:
    Delvac 1 (made by the mobil 1 folks)(think it's 5W-40, can't remember for sure)
    Valvoline Cummins Blue
    Shell Rotella
    Chevron Delo 400
Walmart or other house brands meeting CF-4
    All in 15W-40

Don't use SI only rated oils!!!!!!!!

For all of you Super Dutyaholics, there is another forum at; http://forums.vmag.com/fvmFSD0299/index.html (by the way, that is a zero and not the letter O)
I learned about the Edmunds forum from the vmag site over a year ago. But they shut it down a while back and now it is back up under a slightly different web address.

Thank's AKMARKUS for the input.Originally, the dealer gave me an item # to trace the progress of my order with. After getting nowhere with the dealer I used this # to check with Ford directly(just to see if the dealer was jerking me off).Ford cust service gave me the same exact info;"orderplaced, not picked up yet".11 weeks now!!! Cust svc.also told me that these monsters are built in lots of units with similar features and being mine will have almost everything but a kitchen sink might have something to do with the delay. I just don't want to blame the dealer for what is beyond their control. Surfing this chat page I see guys getting delivery anywhere from 6 weeks up to 13. At this point I would be happy to fall in the middle rather than set a record for the longest wait. I am driving a little dakota (93)4x4 right now , which is a quick little [non-permissible content removed], but every time I pass a superduty I get the itch.

Redstone, et al: My Lariat order was 31 days old when I took delivery. As long as you don't order anything that's on hold (your dealer will tell you) and your dealer doesn't have an allocation backlog (MAKE them tell you) your order will be picked up shortly after it is placed (?Thurs.) and you'll see the truck about a month later.

Ford has announced Job 1 for MY2000 as July 25th for the Super Duty line.

    Hi guys,
I have scrolled through most of the postings regarding the SD so I am relatively up to speed. I am going to order a 2000 as soon as they become available. (kcram is that the day they start to build them - do you know when they will accept orders?)Looking for a good dealer that will treat me right at close to invoice in Florida or anywhere else on the east coast. Can anyone offer suggestions.

Also, I too am caught up in the PSD vs V10 decision. I know it depends on how I drive and why etc. But it comes down to a simple choice of noisy good mileage or quiet bad mileage. I plan on keeping the truck for the next 10 years and I do not care if the PSD pays for itself or not. I like them both for different reasons and I am willing to pay for the PSD....just can't make up my mind....HELP! OK, Ok,...I intend to put a camper on it and crawl into the woods and mountains as often as possible.
    Thanks Guys!

I can recommend that you try Gary Boyd at Bill Currie Ford in Tampa. Unfortunately I've just had to cancel my order due to a long wait, but I was originally able to work out a reasonable deal without any B.S.

PSD v V10? Well..... I researched this in great depth and it finally seems to come down to personal choice. The pro's and con's for each engine seem to balance each other out. Indeed, the con's for one person will be pro's for another, i.e. the noise and smell of the diesel will be like music and perfume to one, migraine and an evil stench to another. Cost issues seem to even out over time, and aren't a major factor for you anyway. You'll find extreme supporters for either type, but ultimately you'll have to make a "gut" decision that feel right for you. Personally, I chose the V10 (which should be more powerful for the 2000 m.y.) with the intention of adding a supercharger at a later date if I felt the need. Good luck with your own research, and enjoy negotiating a fair price with whoever you finally go with.

Will the higher HP gas engines that are scheduled for 2000 go in at the begining of the 2000 rollout?? Any chance of the late 99's having the higher HP??

Cowpokes - - yep - - am concerned about gooseneck/ rail clearance. I tow 3 horse slant w/ tack rm and living quarters. Did you lower your truck? Any info appreciated. F350,cc,4wd,lwb. Thanks JJ
  • cowpokescowpokes Member Posts: 33
    Hello again J-J

I sounds like you have the rig as I do.

I had to flip the axles on my WW and have the local welding/4wd shop install a sliding connection on the down tube for the goose neck. Cost about $350.
I gained about 4 inches and the trailer rides alot closer to level. BUT the horses have a good step to get in the thing, possibly a big minus for the folks who rodeo only with their outfit. But for me getting that thing out of a muddy trailhead during late elk season should be a plus.
So I did not look at lowering it.
I will still probably end up having to weld up a tailgate that I use when I know I am going into rough country to give me a little extra clearance. So if I don't pay attention and bang the gooseneck into the tailgate, I won't have to buy one from the dealer. I have run it around town and up and down the highway moving horses and I don't seem to get the tailgate too close to the trailer.
I would think that with your newer trailer that you might not have to do anything if you keep it on paved or dirt and away from irrigation ditches.

    I hope this helps

Just changed the oil after the first 1,000 miles on my new 250 SD V10. The manual says 6 quarts, but after filling it with Mobil One Synthetic, it seemed to need another quart. Anyone know if it's really supposed to be 7 quarts?
  • dlamastrdlamastr Member Posts: 15
I picked up my new SD F250 PSD SB 4WD CC etc. last Monday. I can't say enough about how great it is! My biggest complaint is that it rained here in Kansas City for the first 5 days after I picked it up. Oh well...

Here are a few comments on a variety of topics:

Mileage - I got 15.5mpg on the first tank. I refilled and took it on a short trip this weekend (300+ miles of mixed speed limit highway driving), and although I haven't filled it yet, my mileage computer says I'm averaging 19.6mpg so far on this tank.

Bed Height - My truck came in with 2-inch blocks, and doesn't seem extremely high. I bought a 7"-drop ball mount for the receiver hitch, and it will work fine for my utility trailer and pop-up. I'm buying a new 5th wheel, and don't anticipate problems with hitch height.

Floor Mats - I bought full sets of Husky Liners for the front and back seats, including the center hump liner for the front. Pricey ($170 altogether), but NOTHING's going to dirty my carpets. I highly recommend Husky Liners.

Bug Deflector - I bought an EGR No-Drill 3D bug deflector ($89 installed) which looks really sharp! EGR's IRL is http://www.egrinc.com/.

Lid - I ordered an ARE lid which should arrive next week. I'll comment on it later.

If you're in the Kansas City area, visit Pickup Palace on 40 highway by the sports complex. They have a great staff and access to lots of accessories for your truck.

For those waiting on trucks to deliver - hold on, the wait is worth it! For those contemplating purchases - go for it!

The fresh air vent on my F250 V10 CC 4x4, etc. seems to blow hot air (maybe 15 or 20 deg warmer than outside) even with temp dial all the way down and running long enough at a high enough speed to have cooled any residual heat out of the system. Also, the A/C, even though it works, does not seem to be as cold as it should be. I'm afraid that when it gets to be 115 - 120 here is Lost Wages, I'll be sitting in a hot cab. Has anybody else had a similar problem? Is it just a minor adjustment to heater core or some damper?

Otherwise this huge 4x4 monster is great. I've had it for 2 weeks and made 2 round trips to San Diego - very comfortable on long hauls. Also had it on trails at Red Rock Canyon and the 4x4 works great. Got some minor bush scratches that can most likely be buffed out - didn't buy this truck to be a show car anyway.

Considering a F250 SD V10 4.3 Axle to tow a 5th wheel(max wt of 13000)--anyone pulling one and any comments pro or con?
Any recommendation on good dealer to work with in the St Louis West County area?
  • LanceLance Member Posts: 18
Mikey43 -- I have just the opposite problem with the fresh air vents on my 250 SD V10 CC. They seem to blow air that's 5 - 10 degrees cooler than the outside air (as if my air conditioner is always on). Anyone else have one of these problems?
  • todlaketodlake Member Posts: 48
mikey43 and lance - I'm noticing a slight increase in temp through the air vents on my 250SD V10 CC 4x4 SB. Not as much as Mikey, maybe 5 degrees or so - just enough to notice. Figure it's the hot breath from the beast under the hood. I've had mine 2 weeks and am at approx. 1400 miles. I love it! So far I've peaked at 15.2 MPG Hwy (5 pass. and gear, no towing). Get tons of positive comments, and some dirty looks from the guys driving those "little pickups". Have added Lund Interceptor Bug Guard, Ventvisors all around, Catch-All Floor Mats, bed mat and gate protector. My Swiss CH cap is due this week. By the way, my keys do not have the imbedded chip and consequently are relatively cheap to have made. My wife is still afraid to drive it around town, but loves to ride in it, and my kids are in heaven with all the room in back. If my initial impressions are on target, this is the best "family car" we've ever purchased.
  • joejoe Member Posts: 16
My truck also blows hot air out the vents in the panel setting. I don't know if something is adjusted wrong or if it should do this. Also I read some where that the AC might run in all setting but the panel setting. It runs when the temp is above 50F to help dry the air.

The July 25th date is a production date - usually orders can go in about 2 weeks prior to that, but dealers would not have pricing information at that point, just specs and options. To order a 2000 in July would be on a "price handshake" - this usually means you agree to a particular percentage increase over the known 1999 prices.

    redstone,

The increased horsepower engines are strictly for 2000s.

The SD's coming off the line now have the Body side mouldings on the cab only. My dad and I ordered our F350 XLT SC's at the same time and his truck has them on the cab & bed, but mine has the cab mouldings only. His truck 2WD was built about two weeks before my 4WD. I have to wonder why Ford made this change in mid production. I can live without them, but parked next to his it looks a little different. Otherwise a great truck with a great ride.

I ordered my F-250 V-10 CC 4X4 ON JAN 25 And was told it should be here in a week or so. Does anyone know about those touchless carwashes and if the CC short bed will fit in them? I just won a years worth of car washes and it would be great if my new wheels were able to fit.
  • LanceLance Member Posts: 18
alpman, I have the same truck as yours with the all-terrain tires. Took it to a touchless carwash yesterday and it made it through without problem.

To ALPMAN I ORDERED MY lARIAT 250 4X4 PRACTICALLY ON THE SAME DAY AND STILL HAVEN'T BEEN GIVEN A PICKUP DATE YET. INITIALLY I WAS TOLD 6TO 8 WEEKS WHICH IS NOW 12.I HAVE THE FEELING THAT SINCE THIS IS AN "A PLAN" PURCHASE, I HAVE BEEN GIVEN LOW PRIORITY. I KIND OF DOUBT THAT THE DELAY IS BECAUSE OF THE SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT I ORDERED EVEN THOUGH WHEN I COMPLAINED TO FORD CUST SERVICE I WAS TOLD SOME CRAP ABOUT THE ASSEMBLY LINE RUNS ORDERS WITH SIMILAR EQUIPMENT TOGETHER.ALL I KNOW IS THAT THIS SEEMS LIKE AN AWFUL LONG WAIT.

Picked up my white/prairie tan metallic F250 SC Lariat 4x4 V10 LB on Tuesday, four days shy of seven weeks order to delivery. Have 250 miles on it already, love it so far! Came w/ 2" blocks, actually fits in my garage! Today I replaced the stock 235/85 tires w/ 285/75 BFG All Terrain T/As (adds about 1" in height)- looks awesome, rides better than stock tires. Had dealer install bedliner and soft tonneau cover. I installed Ford molded rear splash guards, very simple to do, tokk 15 minutes. Might put on aftermarket boards, but will keep factory boards for now. Only other planned mod is Gale Banks Stinger exhaust system when it becomes available (preliminary price is $1,300). This is one impressive rig, can't wait to take it turkey hunting next week.

I think that it is rotten that Ford didn't put molding on the bed too. I ordered my XLT in August and picked it up in late October. It has molding on the cab and bed and I think it would look strange with it only on the cab. I was pissed when I picked mine up because when I ordered it, the XLT came with POLISHED forged wheels. But Ford got cheap and decided to quit polishing the wheels, so I got the dull silver forged wheels. For 30 some grand you would think Ford would deliver a complete truck. I hear for the 2000 model, Ford is replacing the lighter with a book of matches!.........just kidding ;-)

Connon, I too ordered my Lariat 12 weeks ago today and still have not gotten a build date. The dealer keeps telling me that its the Lariat package that is holding me up but this is getting crazy. So sick of waiting.
  • alpmanalpman Member Posts: 12
Lance thanks for the car wash info. Connan and cindy 288. My truck arrived 2 days ago so that would make it shy of 12 weeks. I had the A-plan also and it arrived around the time they said it would. I think it is the lariat package that holds up most.. They are prepping my vehicle and I will pick it up Wednesday. They want a little show time with it and I have to work, so a few more days won't kill me I guess.
  • connonconnon Member Posts: 52
to ALPMAN and CINDY288,if the wait has to do with equipment ordered, maybe you can tell me if we have similar set ups.Lariat 250 sc,4x4,v10,auto,608 pkg, sliding wdw, matching spare, block htr,4whl abs, rear bump,rf lts,c4 hitch, tinted, snopkg, trailer pkg,cd player,lt265 owl at,373ls, elec sof. This cant be so unusual as to warrant such a long wait. Hate to say it, but if not for the APLAN I would have bought another Dodge.I hope when this monster finally arrives all this angst will be quickly forgotten.Like the song says,"the waiting is the hardest part".
  • jas4jas4 Member Posts: 11
I ordered a 99 SD, Lariat, CC, SWB, PSD, 3.73 LS
on February 24. From what information I can get off of the 800 Ford order update number, my truck was built this week and is in transit now, should be here in a week or two. That's about 8 weeks from order to build date. I'll post a message when it arrives. Can't wait!
  • texaszachtexaszach Member Posts: 119
My truck also came without the body side moldings on the bed and I agree, it looks odd. I have to agree on the dull look aluminum wheels which came on my truck. The polished wheels looks so much better. I had already planned on upgrading to 16 x 8 Weld Wheels and Goodyear 305/75R/16 tires, guess I will have to do it a little quicker now.
  • ande157ande157 Member Posts: 23
ALPMAN, CIND288, as far as I can tell, the Lariat package makes NO difference in build time. Sounds like your dealer's making excuses. I got my Lariat in less than seven weeks order to delivery, a friend who ordered his Lariat at the exact same time as me got his in six weeks. Mine's a V10, his is a PSD. My dealer told me as far as he knew there wasn't anything equipment wise holding up truck build dates, although he did say that the V10s were taking a little longer than the PSDs. My case lends some credence to that. Ford builds these trucks in lots, meaning they'll build s bunch of trucks with similar option packages together. Your wait mostly depends on what order priority your dealer has on your order.
  • cindy288cindy288 Member Posts: 13
Connon, I have all of the same features except I got the V8 and did not get the trailer or snow pak. just yesterday I heard that my build date is May 17 and ETA is May 31st. So I hope you will hear soon as it is a loooooong wait!

Have about 4500 miles on the V-10 short bed 3.73
and got 12.5 miles pulling a 20' bass boat to and
from the lake. It's great that you don't have to
"dog" the engine all the time, the v-10 has enough
power it seems you just use the first 1/2 inch of
the gas pedal. Its good to know it's there when
you need it. As for some of you fellows deciding
between a PSD & the V-10, my deciding factor was
I keep mine in the garage and don't like the way
the diesel smells up the garage, my opion......
Seems like my vents also blow cooler air than the
outside temp, something I really like...
Also, anyone know if the Banks System is ready for
the V-10 yet ? Last time I talked to them (Jan)
    they said March....
Also, got my Ford Blanket in the mail this week.
Ford is being nice sending me a touch-up paint kit
and a Ford Blanket... (I did get the Lariat pkg)
The truck is really worth the wait.

It's been awhile but I just had to jump back on since I picked up my F250 SD PSD 6-spd CC 4x4 last Thursday. I agree that the wait is well worth it. Even my wife loves to drive it (that may be a problem since she likes the room for the kids).

I need to get steps (I think Westin nerf's) because I'm 6'0" slide across the seat getting out (bad habit) and my wife's only 5'3" so she has some trouble (although the pass handle is nice).

I only have a little under 300 miles but first 2/3 tank got 18 mpg (I was worried because of some of the previous entries). A friend has a PSD and claims a lot less but he runs into to turbo land every shift. Seems like driving style is a big factor.

I put a sport master slant side, hinged tonneau and it looks sharp and seems like it will be a good deal for getting in the back and put a slip resistant Pendaliner.

    Good truckin'!

The Westin nerf bars are nice. I have them on my Ram. I'm also 5'3" and they work great for getting in and out. No more ripped skirts! :-)

After reading this board for 4 months while waiting for my truck, I still can't break the habit of coming back for a quick read -- even though I've already taken delivery on my 250 SD CC v10 Lariat 4x4 auto 3.73 LS.

Got Line-X sprayed in last Sat (looks great), added a 12,000 lb class V receiver hitch (haven't towed yet), adding a Ford alarm, Ford chrome rear bumper, and an ARE tonneau lid this week.

Love the truck, lots of power, wife and kids are pleased. I get a laugh every time I think about the post from the guy claiming he's never used more than 1/2 inch acceleration peddle depression -- so true! The wait is worth it.
  • connonconnon Member Posts: 52
to LANCE. is it really that quick off the line with the 373ls?it's what I ordered with the v10 but I still plan to SUPERCHIP it as soon as I get it. Superchip claims 10% more power as well as the same % torque for this application.I am so used to my v8 Dakota for get up and go, I just wish the little truck was built better. the 93's were definitely lacking in the quality control dept.hopefully this SUPERDUTY will keep me from looking back and missing the little DODGE.THAT IS , OF COURSE , IF I EVER GET THE THING!! 12 weeks and still waiting, with not even a build date. I guess I screwed myself by going to a dealer that by their own admission , does not sell a lot of trucks. now I know better, albeit, a little too late.
  • mjemje Member Posts: 33
Hey brownfish man, good to here from you. It's nice to see that there are still some old timers checking in from time to time. I have 1800 miles on lariat v8 4.10 limited slip. So far it is by far the best truck I have ever had. Took it up to northern Mn several weeks ago and actually got it stuck in 2 feet of snow, but what a blast getting it stuck and then out. For those out there waiting patiently; keep the faith. I waited 30 weeks.

My V-10 CC 4x4 has arrived and I have noticed
it is 2 inches lower than others in the lot. How much of a process and cost would it be to get it higher like they used to make it? Appreciate any help.
