My SuperDuty has left the factory only 14 months after I ordered it. [this is a specialized truck and some of the LPO options combined with dealer allotment to delay] The good news is it left the factory the week of May 10-15. The bad news is it was temporarily misplaced along the way. It has been located, but my dealer is concerned about rumours of a delivery strike that may strand it at the railyard. Has anyone else heard about such a strike?
I have heard about the strike. The Teamsters are still negotiating. What are the limited production options that you ordered to delay it so long? I couldn't wait 14 months. I hope they reduce the price for you a little. In 4 months your truck will be a year old when the 2000s come out.
Hello all. So if I were to order a 2000 SD during June, how long do you you think it would take to receive it? Thanks for the help, I have a ton of questions.
If you ordered one right now, I would think that you would get it in September/October. But if you wait a month or two after everyone else has their order in ahead of you, it would likely be Christmas or later. I think a lot of people were going to order 99s until they heard of the long waits, and decided to wait a couple of months and order a 2000. With the better heads and extra horsepower, I think the 2000s will be hot sellers. Also the Excursions will be competing for parts on the assembly line. Get your order in soon, you can always cancel if you change your mind.
I ordered my 2000 SD CC SB V10 4x4 two weeks ago. When I placed the order the dealer said that in CA I could only get the V10 with a 430 rear end, I dont want a 430 rear end, I want a 373 rear end.
Has anybody been able to get a CA spec model with a V10 with a 373? I ordered the Lariat package and the dealer said that the leather only comes in tan. I hope that when the specs come out for the 2000 models these itmes can be changed. I figure if I'm going to send 30K plus I should be able to order it the way I want.
Thanks for that answer. Now for a harder one. I was going to get a diesel for fuel economy and longevity. I have been reading on this site that this may be false economy due to increased maintanence costs. I am not planning to tow anything. So what is the real scoop. Does the added cost of the diesel, and maintences costs that I don't know about offset the my original idea? Tbanks again. tom
I ordered an F250,CC,Lariat,v10,auto on 27 January and still do not have a VIN # or build date. Is anyone else still waiting this long for this configuration? Thanks in advance for any information.
My dealer called this AM to say he was looking at my truck in his lot. It's a F350 DRW CC LWB XLT 4x4 PSD 4.10LS AUTO HDsuspension with power cloth captains chairs, remote entry, tinted slider, electric tow mirrors, skidplates,LPO PTO, LPO idle control, LPO ambulance alternators. From what I can gather, it wasn't any one of the options that really held it up (Although DRW PSD XLT or Lariat certainly seems to slow you down), it was the combination of all of them. Each week one item on the list was on hold. Next week that would be available, but another would not be.
The original order was placed in March 1998. The salesman and manager kept saying it was coming, but it never showed. The salesman left the dealer in September and I started dealing with the manager. At this point in the game, everyone was waiting about that long for this combination (check the archives here), so I wasn't too suspicious. When the manager was on vacation in October, another salesman offered to look it up on the computer and found that my order had a priority 80! There were a dozen other trucks that had higher priority, all of which had been ordered after mine, but had higher sales prices. (The original deal was $400 over invoice) I gave them a week to push me to priority 10 and when they didn't I cancelled my order. [I didn't even have to ask twice to get my "non-refundable" deposit - they handed a check to me right there.]
I then started a quest for another fleet dealer (so I could get my LPO options) and signed up at the beginning of this year. I've been sitting at priority 10 but "dirty" for a while. I got my build date (5/3)and VIN in late April, soon after my dealer called to ask if I wanted to cancel and order a 2000 instead (1999 orders were closing). The delivery date of "week of 5/17" was missed - it has apparently been sitting 50 miles from here in a railyard since then, but after he started a trace, they located it and sent it his way.
He's doing the prep today and installing LoJack tomorrow, so I'll pick it up on Saturday. (now if I could just remember how I was going to pay for it....)
I ordered basically the same vehicle on the same date as you .The dealer said "8 to 10 weeks at worst".Well , it took 15 weeks to get just the VIN and build and delivery dates(5/31-6/14 respectively).Today the new salesman (original was fired in a shake up)told me he had the "tissues" on my truck, whatever the Hell that means.Just tell me when I will be sitting in the damn thing please!!!So don't be too surprised that you have to wait a while. Good luck.
just got delivery on my f250 sd lariat t.b was ordered on 3/3/99. only drove last night about 60 miles and was very impressed. showed 15.8 m.p.g. at about 70 m.p.h. hope your truck arrives soon.
Was wondering why the 5.4L Triton is listed at 260 hp in the F-150 and only at 235 hp in the F-250 SD? What changes are being made in model year 2000 to bring the V8 up to 260 in the F-250 SD?
What kind of mileage are folks getting in the F-250 SD ext cab 4X4 with either the 5.4L or the 6.8L?
I have an appointment at the dealership, next Tuesday, to get my lumbar adjustment diagnosed and hopefully repaired that same day. I spoke to my salesman today and the lumbar on HIS Superduty broke yesterday! More to follow....... Zach

Others have mentioned about making sure when ordering a new SD that you get the highest priority (10?). Can someone elaborate on this a little. How do I make sure that it happens? Thanks
What name brand bug deflectors have you guys been getting ? I seen one that goes right with the shape of the truck and is low profile. Not sure the brand. Any suggestions. Thanks
Kind of quiet here the last couple of days so I will take a shot at your questions.....
tnostrant....Insist that your truck is ordered with a low priority number and tell the dealer that you want a copy of the computer print out of the Order Confirmation. The priority number will is listed on this confirmation. Priority 10 to 13 is best. My truck was a Priority 14 and I picked it up 35 days after the order was placed. Bear in mind, that was in the early Spring of this year when the factory was still accepting orders for 99's. Aside from the priority number the rest is up to the factory, providing that something on your truck is not on hold or backordered you should be in good shape.
Getting your order in early (pre-production) for a 2000 model is a great idea. In July of 96, I ordered a '97 F250 C.C. 4x4 swb diesel. At the time, those trucks were only being produced at the Canadian plant and tough to get. The truck came in 4 months later, in mid October.
Alpman....I have not purchased a bug deflector for my '99 as of yet. I did have purchase one for my previous truck, it was manufactured by Lund. Havent closely checked out the designs for our 99's but one thing that was of concern to me on the older body style was that some bug shields required the mounting of stick on rubber bumpers to the painted surface of the hood to keep the shield from bending back and rubbing against the hood at higher speeds. The Lund model I purchased had enough structural integrity that it did not require the rubber stops. So that is something you may want to check on when shopping.
What's the maximum tire dimensions that can be fitted on a 250 4x4 without lifting? ("fitted" includes no rubbing at max turning angle and compressed supsension) how about with a positive offset?
(oh yeah, KEH4x4: thanks for the answers to my other questions)
According to one of my sources at Ford, the new power, telescoping trailer tow mirrors available on the 2000 model Super Dutys have been put on hold until October 1999. My source says that he would not doubt that the factory extends the hold past that time. So, for those of you placing early orders, keep in mind that this may delay production of your truck.
Jimveta.... From what I have read in this forum and seen on customers Super Duty at my shop , the LT305/70R-16D Goodyear Wrangler AT or MT is the biggest tire without modification. I purchased these tires along with a set of Weld Racing Roadhawk wheels two weeks ago and have them setting in my garage. I am waiting to get my truck aligned at Ford before I put them on the truck. At $225 each for the wheels I decided to wait until AFTER the alignment was done to avoid knicks and scratches. I have seen these tires mounted on the factory aluminum wheels as well. Be advised that the 99 Super Duty has a slightly different bolt pattern than its predecessor. The 99 model is 8 x 170 mm, 97 model and older used an 8 x 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern.
Oldrango - I got about 14.2 mpg on a trip from north San Diego County to Las Vegas. This was about 250 miles through desert with with several climbs to 4000'+ and back down again. I had cruise control set at 75 most of the way. I have the V10 Crew Cab 4x4 3.73 limited slip automatic. I also have a cab high cap on the bed. I have made this round trip 4 or 5 times and usually get between 12 and 13 mpg, averaging 80 to 85 mph. For normal driving (part freeway, part surface street - I live up a winding country road), I've been averaging probably a little less than 12 mpg. Also, my truck has the "high altitude setup" (not something I had intended on getting) and the PTO transmission. I'm not sure what exactly the high altitude setup is, but it probably has something to do with adjusting the fuel/air mixture based on the oxygen sensor. I don't know why they would be selling this configuration in Vegas (2000' elevation), but I seem to be getting slightly better mileage than what most others have been reporting.
What kind of mileage could I expect with a sd250 with the V8? How do you think it will change with the engine modifications on the 2000 trucks? Just looking now, but have agreement to order this week at $100 over invoice.
funny.. right after i read your answer, texaszach, a friend just pointed out to me in 4wheel mag that someone also asked the same question and got the exact same answer for stock wheels (and in addition, with 16.5x8.25" wheels, can do a slightly larger 33x12.5 is what they said.. )
does one have to worry about any ECUs/computer (i.e. for transmission and what not, besides speedo) with change in tire size? (and i have a 99 sd 250 4x4)
$100 over invoice!! I was offered $300 and thought that this was pretty good. What should I expect? Maybe I should make a few phone calls. I still have two things to decide on. V10 or PSD. and short or long box on the CC. I have no idea how to make up my mind.
The difference between $100 and $300 over invoice is only $200. I know that $200 is $200, but on a $30,000+ truck, that really isn't much. You'll probably spend more than that on accessories in the first day. If you feel that you're getting good attention from the dealer offering $300 over, then you might just want to stick with him because that seems like a pretty good price.
I originally ordered my F250 SD CC 4x4 V10 SWB 3.73, etc., etc. from a dealer in OK offering any Ford for $100 under invoice. After a 5 month wait with no VIN, build date or anything (just a lot of reassurances that everybody else was waiting too), I got a letter with a refund of my $500 deposit telling me that the dealer was going out of business and that my order had been cancelled. Five months of anticipation for NOTHING!! I called around to see if any dealer could pick up my order but everybody said that was impossible. I ended up buying one that was almost identical to the one I ordered from a local dealer for about $1000 over invoice. I felt lucky to get it because nobody had any crew cabs on the lots, and this one was in transit when I bought it. I picked it up 3 days later. I probably could have done better by reordering, but I didn't want to go through the wait again and I needed the truck to pull several trailer loads on an interstate move.
Anyway, I'm really happy with the truck and don't feel that I paid TOO high a price. I'm not defending high prices or anything, but the dealer is entitled to make something on a sale (the holdback is around $800, I think) and they have to cover their overhead. The bottom line is, I guess, that you usually get what you pay for which, in my case on my original order, was NADA.
I've got 4,000 on my 250SD V10 3.73 SWB CC 4x4 Auto and I'm very happy with it. I'm getting about 12 MPG city/hwy mix and about 15 HWY only (according to the computer). What puzzles me is the the size of the fuel tank. Anyone with the SWB (29 gallon tank) found that they can squeeze a lot more than 29 gallons in the tank? I've put over 30 in the tank on several occasions (from different gas stations) when the computer showed 20 miles to go...
I've never let mine get that low (I have an XLT, so I don't have the trip computer). When I see the low fuel light come on, I immediately start to panic and find the next station. I'd rather stop a little sooner than take a chance on walking for gas. I don't think that I've ever put more than 25 or 26 gallons in, and I've never trusted fuel gages or published tank capacities. I guess I like to be on the safe side.
I have a 99 F250 4 door swb 7.3L powerstroke diesel with a midrange rear end and am averaging 15 mpg combined hwy/city. Any ideas on how I can improve on this?
How accurate is the fuel guage? I have the 29 gal tank but when I fill up at exactly (well, according to the guage) half tank, I get 11.9 gals. ...?? or is this intentional.
That seems like about the way mine works. Also, this morning my tank was (by the gage) below 1/8 of a tank and I filled it with 22 gallons. If I have half a tank and point the truck slightly uphill, it will go to about 5/8, downhill to about 3/8 (or is it the other way around?). This really makes me wonder how accurate the trip computers can be predicting how many miles are left in a tank.
My F250 V10 4x4 3.37 LB gets 10-10.5 mpg in town, best of 12.5 on the highway unloaded w/ tonneau cover on bed. Towing a 6000lb race car/enclosed trailer combination recently against a head wind through hilly terrain yieled about 8.5 mpg. About 2800 miles on the odo and I have a pretty heavy foot on the gas pedal.
Muelrexp, I have the same truck w/ supercab and 373ls rear. I get about the same mileage as you, I have put the level 10 chip in, with no real improvement in mileage. If you find the answer, let me know. foote
I have a 2 horse slant load aluminum trailer & would like to know if anyone has towed with the Triton V8 W\F250 & what kind of job did it do.Or with the F150 supercab Triton V8
Some time back, if I remember right, there was some discussion in this topic (or maybe another?) of aftermarket headrests for the Crew Cab backseat. Has anybody seen these available anywhere? After 6000+ miles this is the most major problem/shortcoming I have found with my truck. Not too bad, but I would really like to find some headrests since my kids are very often riding in the back seat
Saw headrests for sale in a recent issue of the Sportsmans Guide catalog.this is a sporting goods and ammunition company out of Minn. that also sells just about any kind of closeouts he gets his hands on.they are also on line at , if I remember correctly: www.sportsmansguide.com .they also had bed rails and tailgate type tool boxes. you never know what you will find at their site.
Hi fellow SD groopies. I need HELP ! I just ordered a 2000 SD from a dealer in NH. I live in South Florida but a friend referred me to them and I thought that driving it home would be a good vacation opportunity. I liked the dealer and the deal (3% over invoice) and placed the order. XLT, V-10, CC, SRW, SWB, new Harvest Gold exterior and tan interior - order priority code 10. The day I placed the order the sales manager told me that I could expect delivery during the first or second week of September. Having read all of the postings and contributing to some here I remember that some dealers were making promises that the factory did not keep. I spoke to a dealer in Phoenix who said that the last six months of his [‘99] orders were being placed within 12 weeks or less (Sanderson Ford). So I called the dealer back and asked him about his ’99 track record. I was stunned when he told me that his late model ’99 orders were taking as long as SIX MONTHS. He does not have any of my money yet. Any advise on what to do??? HELP!!!
Time for the first load of fuel in the new truck (99 F350 PSD). I pull into the truck stop, drive up to the diesel pumps and find... that the nozzle doesn't fit into my fill! The nozzle is about 1.5" in diameter, and my fill is only 1.25". I drove around town and found the same thing elsewhere. Did finally find that there is a location with "auto diesel" with a smaller diameter nozzle that fits, but they are a low volume dealer, so I'm a little leary of things like water in the fuel. (Plus they are about $0.10 more a gallon on everything) Do I really have to buy "auto diesel" (I had never heard of any difference in types of fuel - except for "winterized" for January.) Our chassis cab ambulances (86-97) all have a large fuel fill and we've always gone to the truck stops for fuel. It looks like I could maul the restrictor a little bit to allow the larger nozzles, but am I risking other problems?
Mikey43 I have not posted about my drivers seat lumbar repair because the dealer I purchased the truck from dropped the ball. The service writer had promised to check with the Trim Dept. then pre-order the needed parts. I assume he did not do that because he did not call me back as promised, nor did he return calls I left on his voice mail last Monday. Complaints have been left with my salesman which resulted in several apologetic calls from management.
Meanwhile, however, I phoned another dealer, some 20 miles from Dallas, who had really tried to get my business . A salesman there is the MOST knowledgeable truck salesman I have ever run across in my 24 years of buying/driving trucks. After hearing my problem, he went and talked to the Trim Dept. who said they had repaired several of these, there is a kit which Ford has to repair this problem. Their service dept. ordered the kit and said they would be in touch as soon as it arrives. I will provide the part number when I have it.
Meanwhile, some of the changes listed here for the 2000 models went into effect on the Spring production run of the 99 models. For instance, the elmination of body side molding on the pickup bed . I didn't realize that the passenger side lumbar was also eliminated before the 2000 model, because my XLT does not have it. Fully adjustable seating makes for comfort on long road trips and many of us use our Super Duties for such purposes. I do not understand why Ford is doing this, while the new Chevrolets have all kinds of adjustments available on their middle and upper level trim packages.
I just placed an order with our local Ford dealership for a 2000 F-250 Crew Cab. I hope when I finally take ownership I have nothing but good things to say about the truck.
My dealer of course says no problem getting it, just wait 10-12 weeks. But it appears from some of the past posts, that the wait is much more than that.
What are the other dealers telling the rest of you, and are they telling you which options may be hard to get and may hold up the order.
Also, has anybody found a web site that list the changes that will be on the 2000 model year.
Thanks for keeping me posted. I just completed my move from Nevada to Fallbrook CA, and now I will have to find a local dealer or shop to perform warranty repairs. There is a shop in town (not a dealer) that advertises that they do Ford warranty work, but judging from the hassle that you've had getting your lumbar fixed, I'm not too confident. Also, I'm not sure how willing a local dealer will be to put out any extra effort servicing a vehicle not bought from them. I guess I can only try.
this should probably be asked elsewhere, but since i always check here.. question: i had always thought that the final gear ratio was the axle ratio, but i'm wrong, so where's it at? and in proportion to what? i.e. [1-4]:final:axle?
I called my dealer to order a 2000 model F250 SD, V10, Lariat but was told that they cannot take any orders right now because they do not know pricing, option packages, etc. Has anyone else had to wait to put in their order??
I got a good price quoted on an F250SD SC SWB 4x4 Lariat w6.8 V10 but it is with a websales firm called AutoWise Fleet Sales and they claim they can't give me a priority number.
Has anyone dealt with these people? They tell me to expect around 20 weeks delivery. I've read the horror stories of guys caught in this position who have to place new orders and start from scratch after waiting long periods.
Anyone know whom I can call at Ford and ask about these guys?
IAM PICKING UP MY NEW 250XLT SD 4X4 SC V-10 LWB ON THURSDAY MORNING I HAVE BEEN READING THESE POSTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS NOW. CAN ANY ONE TELL ME OF AN AFTERMARKET TRUCK ACCESSORY WEBSITE? ALSO I HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT EVERYONE WAITING SO LONG FOR THERE SUPERDUTYS I CALLED A DEALER IN FLORIDA (BARTOW FORD)I PAID $300.00 OVER INVOICE. THEY HAVE OVER 30 TRUCKS IN STOCK RIGHT NOW. THATS WERE I BOUGHT MY TRUCK RIGHT OF THE LOT.
I ordered My 2000 F250 SD CC 4x4 V10 SWB in May and expect delivery in September.
I agreed to pay $1500 over invoice, its sounds like I paid to much compared to what I have seen posted, but then again I think most dealers will be asking for more for these trucks because they have become so popular.
Has anybody in CA been able to get a CA spec V10 with a limited rear end in a 3.73. The dealer told me I can only get a 4.30 rear end with limited and V10. That sucks!
Somebody posted that the Goodyear LT305/70R16 will fit on the stock 7.5 inch rims. The tire is designed to work on a 8 inch rim. Is this save and has any body tried it with a heavy load like a camper.
I placed an order for a 2000 SD CC V8 Triton 2x2 in the first week of May. I was told pricing should not exceed 3% of the 1999 pricing. The truck was ordered in Tampa, Fl. I have been given the VIN # and a delivery date of August 2. I sure hope the actual delivery date is correct. I will post more info when I take delivery.
Back in October '98 I ordered the combination you are looking for - the V10 3.73 LSD with CA emissions (order since cancelled for unrelated reasons). Apparently that combination was unavailable early in the '99 model year and many dealers mistakenly assume that it is still unavailable. My order went through the system with no problem. Maybe that combination is now again unavailable for the '00 model year, but it is very popular and I wouldn't think that they would stop building it.
BTW - I ended up buying one off a lot in Nevada without the CA emissions. Contrary to what many people think, you can register any vehicle in CA as long as it passes the federal standards. You have to pay a one time $300 fee to register it the first time - somewhat more than the emissions package costs (about $150, I think).
Things are a little more complicated than I was led to believe. A CA resident is not allowed to purchase a new vehicle without CA emissions and bring it back into the state. If a vehicle has less than 7,500 miles on the odometer, it is considered new and cannot be registered without CA emissions. When I talked to the local field office in Oceanside they said that this is a hard and fast rule. I just moved here and have about 6600 miles on the truck I purchased on April 1. I was thinking that I am going to have to put a bunch of miles on it before registering it (what a dumb rule). I called the Sacramento office and the representative there told me that if I write a statement of fact stating that I moved here from out of state for employment purposes, that I obviously have no control over the circumstances, and that they would waive the 7,500 mile rule.

I got about 14.2 mpg on a trip from north San Diego County to Las Vegas. I don't know why they would be selling this configuration in Vegas (2000' elevation), but I seem to be getting slightly better mileage than what most others have been reporting.
a friend just pointed out to me in 4wheel mag that
someone also asked the same question and got the
exact same answer for stock wheels (and in
addition, with 16.5x8.25" wheels, can do a
slightly larger 33x12.5 is what they said.. )
does one have to worry about any ECUs/computer
(i.e. for transmission and what not, besides
speedo) with change in tire size?
(and i have a 99 sd 250 4x4)
I still have two things to decide on. V10 or PSD. and short or long box on the CC. I have no idea how to make up my mind.
Just my $.02 worth...
Any ideas on how I can improve on this?
gal tank but when I fill up at exactly (well,
according to the guage) half tank, I get 11.9
gals. ...?? or is this intentional.
I have the same truck w/ supercab and 373ls rear. I get about the same mileage as you, I have put the level 10 chip in, with no real improvement in mileage. If you find the answer, let me know.

that the nozzle doesn't fit into my fill!
(Plus they are about $0.10 more a gallon on everything)
Do I really have to buy "auto diesel" (I had never heard of any difference in types of fuel - except for "winterized" for January.)
Our chassis cab ambulances (86-97) all have a large fuel fill and we've always gone to the truck stops for fuel.
It looks like I could maul the restrictor a little bit to allow the larger nozzles, but am I risking other problems?
I do not understand why Ford is doing this, while the new Chevrolets have all kinds of adjustments available
on their middle and upper level trim packages.
Regards
Jon

i always check here.. question:
i had always thought that the final gear ratio was
the axle ratio, but i'm wrong, so where's it at?
and in proportion to what? i.e. [1-4]:final:axle?

Has anyone dealt with these people? They tell me to expect around 20 weeks delivery. I've read the horror stories of guys caught in this position who have to place new orders and start from scratch after waiting long periods.
Anyone know whom I can call at Ford and ask about these guys?
