Yeah, you must replace worn tie rods. Figure both sides maybe 2 hours labor + a wheel alignment + the parts themselves, something like that--it depends on the car and your dealer or shop labor rates. Couple hundred bucks.
Low trac light is signaling abrupt change in wheel speed, and isn't related to worn tie rods. Probaby a sensor but you need to have the ABS/TCS system scanned for trouble codes to be sure.

I bought a used hyundai accent 1995 model late last year. Since then the only major item i bought was 4 sets of tires. The rest were regular change oils, flushing and refilling of radiator coolant, and likewise replacement of sparkplugs. Currently, the car is about 62,000 in mileage.
Lately, i noticed "hesitations" during shifting of gears - notably 1st and 2nd gear. I also noticed that the "rpm" indicator occasionally does not function. It is during these intances that I feel very minor irregularities in operating the car. Then the moment the said indicator functions again, all these inconvenience are erased.
A friend of mind suggested to have it checked by professionals and not just to any mechanic because the car is using "IC" integrated circuit and, hence, need special type of equipment to look into the electrical circuits. Judging from his advice, it appears that the problem is complex. And of course, complex problems follow expensive repairs.
This is actually the first time I own and drove a car. I am a neophyte. What is this rpm all about? Is this really a big issue? Is it true that to check on IC's, one needs a special type of equipment to analyze the problem? And ordinary mechanics, including my mechanic, cannot hurdle this type of issues?
Finally, can you please provide me advices on what I should be aware of and to tell my mechanic about the maintenance of this type of car?
Thank you very much.
Typically, if an engine sensor becomes defective it will cause a driveability problem, and depending on which sensor is acting up, it can put the transaxle in "limp-in" mode, causing it to operate in a limited number of gear ranges. First step in diagnosing yours would be to check for any stored diagnostic trouble codes. Any competent tech should be able to track down the cause of the problem you're having, which is probably an intermittent fault in one of the engine or transaxle sensors, or their associated wiring and connectors.
Here's some info on retrieving trouble codes and their definitions:

I have a 1997 pathfinder, 5 speed manual, 4 WD, with 126,500 miles. I am trying to decide whether to keep the vehicle, which I like a lot. It needs new tires and exhaust work, and has a knock sensor problem and a minor coolant leak, I believe at a gasket associated with the intake manifold. Also, the CV boots are starting to crack. Recently, I have been noticing an unusual sound at low speeds. It is intermittent, and does not happen when the car is not moving. It seems to be worse when the car has been parked for a while. It is, like all sounds, hard to describe, but sounds kind of rubbery, like scraping or clunking. It comes from the front end. I have not noticed that it correlates with hitting bumps, releasing or depressing the clutch, shifting gears, etc.
Any thoughts what could be causing this? I am sitting on the fence whether I should get the tires and exhaust work done, but will probably get rid of the car if this most recent noise is something serious. My dealer told me not to worry about the coolant leak or knock sensor; just to use 89 octane gas and keep an eye on the coolant level.
Any thoughts about the noise and the wisdom of hanging on to this vehicle greatly appreciated.
