Kinda makes you feel sorry for the Big 3 domestic manufacturers. No sooner do they zero in on the latest top gun from Japan than somebody else comes along and moves the target.
I sort of doubt Ford is zeroing in on the 6 ! BTW, I watched Bill Ford in that first re-org speech several months ago and the only example he could cite for their planned resurgence in new product was the 6!
There was an artical at Automotive News this week about how Ford will launch its own C/D size car and leave the Taurus to fleet sales only. How the mighty have fallen...
...with another nice pic!
Otherwise a great article:

"are you sure you're not my father??" I seriuosly doubt it. We're the same age, so unless I've been missing something... NO!
I am a Mazda fan as far as the PRO, 6, Miata and MPV are concerned. And the old Proteges > 323 < LOVE those cars!
You know I'm a balanced individual when it comes to automitive things. Well, not reaally. I like Mazda and Honda, but will not pay ridiculous prices for the later. Although an RSX still looks good!

It seems to me Mazda has few dealers in the US' major cities. They're pretty good in Toronto and Montreal though.
I'm also pretty excited about the 6. If I only had the $ for one...

The 6 seems like it will run smoother than most first year cars. The 80's MX-6 and Probe didn't have any bad issues when the Flat Rock plant first opened.
RE: "Mighty Have Fallen". Jac Nassar is at fault for letting the car designs age, (not including Focus). He decided to concentrate on trucks, thinking they would be 70% market share by now, and that there would still be an SUV "monopoly" in Detroit.

Hey, it beat out the MB E-class.
I'm surprised the Corolla took third. ???
I want a hatch!!!
It's great that they have so much capacity at Flat Rock, so that if the 6 sells well, they can increase production of the sedan AND still come out with the other body styles. I was afraid that if the sedan was selling well, they'd delay making the other two in order to keep selling sedans. Of course if it doesn't sell well, they might decide not to even come out with the hatchback and wagon. Now I'm scaring myself.

Make mine an optioned out, 4 banger, 5 speed hatch, dark interior, platinum/dark silver paint, and its OTD!!
Mazda made 5 cars available. Three to drive and two for show. All five were manual transmission. There are no automatics on the ground in Canada.
The three drivers were a 4 cylinder GS, a 4 cylinder GT and V6 GT (sorry to my American friends if you are not familiar with the Canadian model designations).
I was not there, but I know a number of people associated with my old man's Mazda dealership who were. Mazda also had a 2003 V6 Accord, a 2002 3.5 SE Altima and a V6 Camry for comparison purposes.
The 6 enjoyed a tremendously positive reaction from the BC dealer network. Everyone is now VERY excited to receive this car.
A friend of mine hopped in the V6 GT and took it for a mad dash on this perfectly flat piece of private property. He was incredibly impressed with the handling (apparently no worries there), the braking, and the lack of N/V/H.
He was even more impressed when he came to a skidding halt, looked under the hood and realized that he had been driving the 2.3 four cylinder and not the V6!
He reported that the 6 cylinder did have better low end grunt, but the 2.3 four cylinder is a real performer in its own right. In fact, he would take the four cylinder GT over the V6 based on bang for the buck.
He was very impressed with the quality of the interior. Said the Accord was the only car that came close in that department, but that NONE of the others even came close to matching the performance and dynamics of the Mazda 6.
A couple of other tid-bits for you. The RX-8 goes into production in April and will be in Canadian showrooms by late June. Mazda execs are also very excited about the upcoming Mazda 3, which they think will absolutely blow the competition out of the water. Finally, and most intriguing, Mazda execs are talking quietly about a "Mazda 4" coming out in the not too distant future. If I find out more about that one, I'll let you know.
Moreover, if Mazda doesn't have the financial resources to produce an Audi or BMW at half the price, then how the thunder is it supposed to buy ANYTHING at Auto Alliance? Besides, with no Ford ownership/control to worry about, wouldn't it be smarter to instead build in a US state south of Michigan (for reasons probably it is best no to go into here) like Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes and even Honda (though less south than most) have done?
Personally, I am THRILLED at the new Mazda6 and can't wait to get my hands on one. That being said, all other things being equal, I would prefer the hatch OR the wagon! (I should also add that I have no connection to Mazda nor any other automotive company)
(sorry if this seems menial to most of you, but I value little aesthetic things like that)
Thankfully I am not in the same boat as most of you. I am dying to get my hands on a 6 but frankly I don't plan on replacing my Focus at least until July and I am keeping my fingers crossed that the hatchback will be out by then.

Also, Ford has made clear to municipal officials at Flat Rock that the Mustang IS coming there.
And BTW, why aren't you at school/work M Type X (as you like to be called)?
I'm leaving soon > school > yey!

Great weather today, uh?
If it is, Mazda needs to get its act before they throw the 6 into the US market.
