Well, not quite. No reviews of -production- NA 6's.

    Just curious: 6s or 6i (6 cylinders or 4)?

At present time, I'm more interested in the 4 cylinder. Lighter, better balance, better handling, cheaper, still comes with all the "important" options. Plenty of power on paper and favorable reviews. I would maybe think differently if the reviews of the V6 included terms like "neck-snapping acceleration" - but they don't, so I don't.

We shall see how I'll feel after driving each - that will be my next poll - post test drive impressions of each. Then we will see how reality matches with press. I think we are all old enough here to realize that PR departments and auto-insiders exaggerate, but we will see by how much.

Next question: manual or auto? No need to test drive each for me - definitely manual.

I got a reply from mazda regarding the suspension. I hope the HR tells the truth about it.
    =============================================

Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate
the opportunity to respond to you.

In regards to your inquiry, the Mazda6 suspensions for the United
States and European markets are the same. To be clear, the United
States suspension is not softer than in Europe. I hope this information
    proves helpful to you.

We appreciate your interest in the all-new Mazda6! If you would like to
be included in any future marketing updates, please send me your
    contact information.

Well, I bought it. Will have to wait for CD and alarm. Dealer won't deliver this only one he has till he displays it at media launch here Oct 24.

BTW one thing I don't like is only one cig. lighter plug deeply recessed in ashtray compartment - no accessory plug for my cellphone.

    great post!

so...slow the fear machines, the suspension remains.
  • harlequin1971harlequin1971 Member Posts: 278
that's it, I am not buying one! :)

Actually, I am with you on this one. Little things make a big difference over the life of a car. My good friend drives around in a new Sonata, which is proving to be a fairly thoughtful car as far as the little things go. It has the stuff that people expect, and little things that people don't. My favorite feature has to be the cell-phone cubby on the center console next to the aux power plug...talk about a handy design!

The NA produced Mazda6 has a power port inside the armrest box.

    Zeong,
Was the response from Mazda signed with a name? please post if so.

    The heat is on......

since the day I was getting married, this is the first time I am so excited. Hope the 6 lives up to my expectations as my marriage did!!

hmmm, looks like a japanese exec made an uniformed statement to the Auto News/Autoweek. I retract all jello related statements. :-)
  • ashutoshsmashutoshsm Member Posts: 1,007
I'm glad we settled that whole thing today! So it appears the 6 will have the same handling worldwide.

So am I right in understanding that the sport version/package only adds wheels, interior trim modifications and the shopping cart handle - and no suspension modifications? I'd rather go after-market on the wheels, in that case!

And malt, if Rich does get a few vehicles a bit earlier than it makes sense to, that shouldn't be reason enough for you to deprive the rest of us of your presence and knowledge here! Its just good news that Mazda is getting better at releasing vehicles punctually, and is going to ramp up their production/delivery methods to meet expected demand, and plans to stock up dealerships before the advertising blitz :)
  • maltbmaltb Member Posts: 3,572
it's just a challenge, one that I'm 99% sure that I'll win unless he sends a truck to pick it up.

Don't forget the sport version also has side sills and different(oooo sportier) bumpers.

With the rear suspension being completely underneath the car, does this mean future replacements of the struts will require unique (and more expensive) pieces?
  • ashutoshsmashutoshsm Member Posts: 1,007
Why didn't they call it the Mazda M6 ;) (think - BMW M3!)

Glad to hear you're not serious about the whole fake bravado thing as well! No one can completely or confidently understand the workings of these large corporations, especially when the large corporation is controlled by a notoriously misleading and absolutely massive super-corporation! Long as they provide us with a car that suits our needs and brings s smile to the driver's face, every now and then, we'll buy their stuff!

As happy as the day I picked up the PRO last year. I'm living the hype, but will have to wait until January to see one here (:

hey, you forgot the oval (rather than the standard round) exhaust outlets. whopee!
  • jampedrojampedro Member Posts: 38
Actually the salesman showed me the car the day after they received it and admitted he hadn't had time to read up on the car. We looked for a power port near the cig. lighter, but not in or around the center arm rest/storage box which I only glanced in. I'll check again and let you know. I thought it hard to believe they wouldn't have one in this day and age, whether made in Japan or N.A.

Hoping to have delivery in a few days before lending it back for the dealer's media show, providing I don't wrap it around a pole because of that monstrous 2.0 Ltr. engine.

    Here's an abbreviated list:
    Mazda 6i Standard Equipment
    2.3L engine
    Dual exhaust outlets
    Front&Rear stabilizer bars
    Disc brakes front/rear
    16 inch steel wheels
    205/60R16 all-season tires
    Variable-speed wipers
    Tinted window glass
    Dual power remote mirrors
    Power windows
    Power door locks
    Remote keyless entry
    Cruise control with steering-wheel controls
    Steering-wheel audio controls
    Leather-covered steering wheel
    Tilt/telescope steering column
    Leather-wrapped shift knob
    Leather-wrapped parking brake handle
AM/FM CD audio system with clock
    6 speaker sound system
    In-glass radio antenna
    Air conditioning
    Pollen filter
    Outside ambient air temp indicator
    12-volt power outlets (2)
    Dual trip odometer
    5 mph bumpers
    Side-impact door beams
    Crushable brake and accelerator pedals
Dual-stage front airbags with passenger cut-off switch
Front seat-belt pretensioners with force limiters
    Trunk entrapment release system
    Engine immobilizer system

And much, much more (I'm tired of typing)!

As you can see, it's very well-equipped. All you really need is some alloy wheels and you're ready to rock! Of course, if you get the 6s, it already comes with alloy wheels so you don't need nuthin' else.

  • auerbachauerbach Member Posts: 110
if the 6 will be available with a 5-speed, abs and WITHOUT a sunroof? I'm 6'3" and won't buy any car with a sunroof.

    Thanks - Mike
  • tomcat630tomcat630 Member Posts: 854
I want a steel roof, I am tall also and won't ever get a "Moon/sunroof", no matter how "cool" they are.

    I think a 6s w/o moonroof will do just fine. :)
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
Mike - Yes, if you want the 6s. ABS is standard on the 6s, optional on the 6i, as far as we know.

    See http://www.mazdausa.com/mazda6/downloads/mz6_specs.pdf

    for more detail.
  • auerbachauerbach Member Posts: 110
for the info and the link.

I just hope Mazda doesn't bundle the sunroof with side airbag system. I would like that as an option.

Anyone have any inside info on this?

Honda did a similar thing with the last generation Accord. You couldn't get ABS and five-speed without getting a sunroof.
At least on the 4-cylinder models.

Dumb - if you ask me.
  • auerbachauerbach Member Posts: 110
what I'm asking is - can I get a 6i with 5-speed, ABS, and the optional dual front side impact system and NOT have to get a sunroof?
  • maltbmaltb Member Posts: 3,572
Thanks for correcting my hastily written post. I wonder if that was courtesy of Edmund's spell checker.
  • taddisontaddison Member Posts: 99
No, you can't get a 6i 5 speed with abs & side airbags but no moonroof.

You could get this combo with the 6i automatic or the 6s automatic, but not with either of the 5-speeds.

Read post 1768 for full option combo details.
  • mazdafunmazdafun Member Posts: 2,329
You'd hope they'd do the same with the Mazda6.

I forget, but I thought the ABS package was somehow tied to the moonroof when I read through the specifications PDF I downloaded from MazdaUSA. I'll give it another read-over tonight.
  • auerbachauerbach Member Posts: 110
or need an automatic - I can think of a hundred other thing I could spend the $600 - $800 on.

Why they package safety equipment with non-essential equipment simply boggles my mind.

I'll still look at the 6 when it comes out - but I'll probably look more closely at the Altima - at least (according to the Nissan website and Carsdirect.com) you can get a 5-speed with ABS and side airbags - without a sunroof.

How many are actually built that way is another story - but it is possible.
  • dudleyrdudleyr Member Posts: 3,469
I am in the same boat. I want a 4-cyl stick shift. ABS is a must, and sunroof is a deal breaker. So for now, the 6 is out of the picture - hopefully they will change their minds. Honda finally wised up and made abs standard on the Accord, so you can now get a manul Accord with ABS (could not before 2003) so that is an option, but there is no Accord wagon (sigh).

As I have mentioned before, I would gladly pay a special order fee ($500 or so) to order the car exactly how I want it - that goes for other manufactures as well.
  • csuftitanscsuftitans Member Posts: 215
Mazda did the same thing with Protege5 when it fist came out, they package the ABS with Moonroof, is sucks but we bought one with it anyway. But now, you can get a Protege5 with ABS and no moonroof, so you just gotta wait a little bit. I'm sure they'll do the same to the 6.
  • auerbachauerbach Member Posts: 110
the Protege5 was released did Mazda decouple these options?

I have a '91 Accord Coupe that I'm going to keep through the winter and then start seriously looking for a new car.

Do you think it could be as early as next Spring?
  • panamaltd2panamaltd2 Member Posts: 162
Ok, this may seem like a little thing but is anyone else bothered by the fact that the American Mazda6's have the rear head rests embedded into the rear seat? I hate them on my Portege! It makes the back seat look like a cross between a Buick and a Honda (well not that bad :). Plus it loos like they took off the rear roof mounted antenna! Are Americans really this tasteless?
