Mark.
That would mean I'm good for 16HP (wooo hooo!) on the 6 when it arrives.
FYI!
Anyone want to meet up at one of these dealerships to ogle the cars on the 17th
The Accord V-6 will reportedly make 250 on premium as does the Ody. I wonder if the Mazda6's computer will compensate likewise...
I'd like the 6 w/sunroof 5spd 2.3L. No BOSE, leather, GPS for me. Just the car, its sunroof and a rear wing - gotta keep the image alive - to add zoom to the already existing zoom-zoom.
Make that a zoom-zoom-zoom mobile for me.

Say you want a sporty 5-speed 6i - just the sport pkg and nothing else. Well, if you click the $860 sport pkg, you get the following message:
"This requires the addition of Premium Package and Comfort Package and Power Moonroof and Leather Seat Upholstery >> $+3440 to MSRP"
Suddenly your $19K car costs $22.5K.
On the 6s, its not quite so bad - the Sport Package just requires the Bose. But why? The two are completely unrelated and you could make the case that most people who want a sport car are probably care LESS about high-end sound systems. All the standard factory sounds systems are good enough for me.
If Mazda wants to be the "Japanese BMW" they should go over to BMWUSA.com where you can build virtually any car and find the leather, moonroof, sport package, and upgraded stereos are totally and completely separable. You want a stripper with the sport package? No issue.
Maybe the web site has bugs or they'll relax these constraints once they fill the pipeline. If they don't, they're shooting themselves in the foot.

There are only two things that bug me about my current 626: the door-top/driver's seat interface is difficult for me to negotiate, and it could use a shot of Vitamin HP. The 6 takes care of these issues quite nicely, thank you very much.
And by the time I can afford to buy one, I figure the option packages will be sorted out - and maybe they'll be selling the 5-door hatch, which is the 6 I really covet.
Can anyone speak up on this?
Nissan played similar games when the Altima first came out (they've changed now). And I eliminated the Altima as a car I would purchase. Now I've eliminated the Mazda 6.
I'm am sooo sick of automakers playing games w/ options. Why are side airbags optional? Why are they always packaged w/ ABS? Why is it necessary to purchase thousands of dollars in "frosting" to get either or both.
Oh well. Mazda's loss is another automaker's gain.
Seriously, though, the best way to get a 6i-MT or 6s-MT or the base model (or 6i w/Premium). I predict these units will fly off the dealers lots faster than you can say "zoom zoom zoom", while the loaded up ones will sit unsold on the lots for a "long long long" time.
Personally, I'm going to get a 6s-MT base model or Altima 3.5SE-MT.
Provided, however, there ARE any base cars to start with. If Mazda plays Toyota games and only builds MT cars with tons of other options, they, too, will sit there. Then Mazda marketers in their infinite wisdom will say: "Those Americans. They screamed for manuals. We built them manuals. They didn't buy them. See, we told you manuals don't sell..."
(And before someone preaches, Toyota Games??? This is EXACTLY what happened with V6 Manual Camrys. To get one you had to take NOTHING at all optionwise or every available option. It wasn't long before the only ones available had virtually no options. Then it wasn't long before there were none. Also, Toyota is famous for showing all kinds of configurations available in the brochures, but then only building about three different ways per model per region, sometimes only two. Toyota can get by with this, due to their huge popularity and strong demand. Mazda is probably a different story)
In any case, Mazda NA hasn't demonstrated that they are up to the task of marketing their clearly superior vehicles, like the Protege and MPV. Marketing of the 6 seems to be following the same pattern. JM2C.
First question - Where are the five speeds? Are five speeds going to be special order only? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

The equivalent in an A4, with quattro of course, would be about $38,000. Great job Mazda!! My only "whine" is that it will probably be hard to get any of them at first and the dealers will be ready with those premium stickers!!
PS All right, I'm not real wild about the tupperware cladding...Mazda must have a hidden genetic link to Pontiac!!
b. The test of whether or not you can actually get a MT car equipped that way is when you find one...not that one is listed on a website or in a brochure.
is it just me or does morries always have really hot chicks working there selling......?
BTW the mazda 6 cladding looks nice. Pontiac cladding looks dreadful.
At least the Mazda has the moves to back up the look.
I drove through there this afternoon while killing some time and they had a black sedan in the showroom with a cover over it. All you could see was the wheels and rocker panels. So, I wheel around and pull up to a bunch of sales guys standing around out front (slow day) and ask when the cover gets taken off the Mazda6 on the showfloor. The sales guy who had come up to my car looked kind of sheepish and admitted that it wasn't a Mazda6 under the canvas. Cheesy. He did say the District Manageer would be at their dealership Tuesday with a Mazda 6 (I assume its the same car that was at Morries today) with stock units ariving late in the week.Anyway, they looked pretty interested in the fact a guy driving a 5spd. Accord was interested in a Mazda6...
a) It only comes in orange or black
b) They've had a reserved spot for the MSP for a couple of weeks now
Just a guess. Doesn't matter to me either way--I'd like to see both the MSP and the 6.
what a crock. still a nice car tho.
i'm still a bit miffed by the waiting on the hatchback and wagon for USA. A bright yellow hatch or wagon would rule.
Points of notice:
Options are not dependent of one another as listed on the Mazda "Build Your Own" site.
You can get the sport grill.
There is a "lip" spoiler.
The entire tail light sticks out, not just the edge "bubble".
There is an appearence package (air dam/side sills/skirt only) seperate from the Sport package.
The leather package includes some leather-look vinyl
And, as if this wasn't beaten to death enough on this messageboard, there was also a link over there illustrating the differences between the Ford and Mazda 2.3l engines.
Does the base stereo still have the RPM-sensitive volume we've heard about? The rumor is that even with the Bose package, the head unit is the same, so I'd believe so. No way I'd buy Bose, ever.
Oddly, the US version is just over 2" longer than the UK version of the 6 due to a stretched rear bumper. Add that to the list of stupid changes for the US version.
Invoice price for 6i: $17,614
Invoice price for 6s: $19,979
(both including destination charges)
for example, i believe that the outside mirrors are not foldable. for over $25K for a loaded car, you would think that the mirrors would fold.
Also, there is no auto-up funtion for the power windows. currently, i believe all european cars (including my 2000 Jetta) have this option available and i find this feature to be very convenient. even the new Accord has this. i believe that the Australian models have this option.
HID lights are also not available. even the Altima has this option. and who wants fog light intergrated in the light assembly? part of the allure of fog lights is how they look!
additionally, if they wanted to interest buyers of eurpean cars, why don't they keep the side turn light in the US models like the european car makers do? why don't they offer a stablility control system like other eurpean cars? heck, even the Camry has this option!
for over $25K these features should be included!
i may just have to go with the Accord when its time to upgrade. i can not justify spending that much money for a new (and supposedly better) car and get less luxury option than i currently have on my 'economy class' Jetta.
Is something wrong with Edmunds' system?
Tried pricing a 6s and ABS is listed as standard, is this true? Optional ont he 4 but std on the 6?
23180 for the 6s with leather and moonroof but no sports pkg or bose, etc.
Of course I doubt anyone actually ever WANTS bose.....bose typically sucks....its just they have the public conned into thinking their products are actually good.
I'd much rather have a 150 dollar aftermarket pioneer cd deck, and then some aftermarket amps and speakers to go with. The sound would be twice as good for what you pay.
25695 loaded the way I want. That's a good sticker compared to a loaded Altima or Camry.
Even less of a sticker than a loaded Impala.....and the 6 is most likely a far better car (unless you ask Lemko).
