but will keep an eye on this discussion. I hope everyone has great luck with this wagon once it's finally here.

As for me, a week ago I bought something I hadn't even considered when I started looking -- a FWD Toyota Highlander. Lots of cargo room and passenger room, and with the 4-cylinder engine the same or better than the wagons I was considering in terms of gas mileage.
  • dudleyrdudleyr Member Posts: 3,469
Good luck with the Highlander - did you get the third row seat? Yes it is strange that the Highlander gets better mileage than the 6 wagon. Of course if the 6 had a 4 cylinder engine things would be different.
  • herzogtum71herzogtum71 Member Posts: 470
No 3rd seat, which would have been handy for us a few times a year. But the price was in the same league as the base Outback and what people have projected for the Mazda6 wagon. And the Highlander came with the features I felt were essential (ABS, traction control, cruise control, radio with cassette and CD, roof rack, tonneau cover, etc.) The wagon I found most tempting was the Volvo V40, which I could have had for under $22K (base model) if I had been ready to buy when those were available the end of 2003. But I'm probably better of in terms of reliability with the Toyota.

I saw a Mazda6 wagon, silver, on the way to the airport today. Unfortunately, it was the Melbourne, Victoria airport. Just got a glimpse of it as my taxi sped past it. Looked good, but I think that car will look better in darker colors.

I can't wait to see these on the road!

Hello Everyone... first time poster here to this board, and considering the purchase of the Mazda6 V6 Wagon sometime this spring.
Does anyone know the color combinations for the wagon? Same as the sedan? Thanks.
  • ebeneben Member Posts: 26
Mazda's website has the info on color etc. Click on the "Mazda6 Family" link and look for the specs (it's a pdf). BTW the colors aren't exactly the same as the sedan.

Our first MZ6 wagon arrived today.

    Squall blue...auto,luxury, side airbags, bose, moonroof...msrp $26,970
  • ebeneben Member Posts: 26
Should I expect Mazda dealers to have a wagon-specific brochure available yet?
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
What do you think of the Squall Blue?
  • hboydhboyd Member Posts: 98
MZ6 Wagon available in San Diego/Escondido as of this week. My dealer in Huntington Beach says his order was released and should be arriving in 1 week.

Oh...the MZ6 Wagon Brochures are in printing according to Mazda. I already test-drove the 5dr MZ6S at Rev-it-Up in Orange County. It was really tight!! I expect the wagon to handle the same. I had a blast on the course!

Thanks Eben re my question on the wagon's color availability. I found the info on Mazda's website today, as you suggested. While on the site, I looked thru the wagon's options list and now have a couple of other questions. I noticed the SAB/SAC requires the Bose and Moonroof, which is okay with me. But I also noticed the Sport Package isn't required for SAB/SAC like on the sedan. Can anyone verify if this is correct? I really don't want the Sport Package since it isn't available with the Beige Leather Interior, my preferred color choice.
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
EBEN...We don't have any brochures yet. I also am out of sedan brochures and they are on back order from mazda. maybe they are planning a sedan/5door and wagon combined book.

Mazda6....it's close to what I expected. Ford had a color called Atlantic blue, which is very close. Its a hard color to describe. its not dark but its not a light powder blue either. I personally don't care for blue's so I am a bit biased with colors. But its alot better than Lapis blue in my opinion. I'm a red fan..almost any shade of red is ok with me. :)
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
Since the spec sheet combines all three models I think it's a safe bet that they are going to publish a combined brochure too.

    Mazda's 6 site now let's you build a wagon!

    Hey Rich (audia8q),

Are you up at Jim Ellis in Chamblee or at another dealership? My wife and I tried to wait for the wagon since late 2002, but we had to bite the bullet when her 93 protege died. The '02 Saab 9-3 5-door we picked up is nice, but I still have my heart set on a 6 wagon. Oh if only...thanks, Jason
  • ebeneben Member Posts: 26
Just wanted to point out that so far only the non-Flash version lets you build a wagon.

Just looked them over on the lot here in Milwaukee. Since they're starting out with the 2.9% financing incentive, how long before the real incentives kick in?
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
nah..I'm about 1000 miles north of there.

Although I live on top a mountain with a steep drive that is covered with "wintry mix" too often
to buy a new vehicle that isnt AWD, this wagon promises a lot for the $$ and I cant resist going for a test drive. Who knows, maybe I can afford to keep my old Explorer and drive a new Mazda6 wagon on all but the worst days.
I am going to wait until the new Subaru Legacy and Outback are available to test drive before I decide, but it will be hard to beat Subaru's proven AWD system and 2.5L turbo. It will just cost $4-5 grand more for similar equipment ( including the AWD and turbo, of course). Interestingly, the new Subaru Legacy/Outback weighs slightly LESS than the Mazda 6 sport wagon in both manual and auto tranny versions and has more cargo room. Premium gas required, however.

My local Mazda dealers already have a 6 wagon or 2 on hand anticipate getting some wagons with the 5MT in a couple weeks.

Put snows on the Mazda, and you will be fine on all but the worst days (and you will be better than the AWD on the way down your driveway - assuming it does not have snows)

Mazda came through for me. I picked up my wagon today and its bad a-s. Redfire metalic paint msrp of 22,225 with side air bags side curtains, auto 5speed,powermoon roof, luxury package, sport package
Bose audio package sounds awsome bump it up to 27,700. bought through Ford partnership s-plan paid 25,080 thats under invoice. I even got the 7/75K warranty. How about this for incentives they had 3year 0% 4 year 1.9 5 year 2.9 I went with the 1.9. This car was worth waiting for I paid less for decked out 6wagon I couldn't have gotten a base wrx for that price.
  • hboydhboyd Member Posts: 98
Mazda's website states MZ6 Wagon Starts at $23,125 (build-your-own). Is this a mistake? Emission equip., dest., etc. is added after this base price. Can you answer, Rich?

I'm waiting for a dealer nearby (LA/OC CA) to finally get their shipment of wagons delivered. My choice is a sepang green w/gray leather; very few wagons are trickling in the LA/OC CA area.

Does Mazda ever introduce new incentives before the current ones expire?

    MARTIN
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
$23125 is the base price for a Mazda6 wagon with auto trans. To that you have to add $100 for CA ULEV equipment and $520 for destination charge.
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
its the base price with an Automatic transmission.....if you click 5 speed manual it's $900 less.
  • hboydhboyd Member Posts: 98
Ya... I thought the website was incorrect, but I now see how the calculation was done. The site-generated "window sticker" shows the AT as a $900 option on my list. This amount is already in the "Base MSRP." The final MSRP is correct. A bit confusing IMO.

Question: Can side roof-racks and fog lights be added on as dealer-installed options at time of sale?

The build a car web page doesn't say but if you look at the 6's roof rack, it just a plain old black surface mount (not integrated into the roof) so it's a simple deal applied option with a screw gun. Same with the fog lights. The bumper has cutouts in the lower vent for bolt ons. The moonroof, SAC and LEV emissions will be mandatory from the state you buy the car in are the only real factory options.

    FYI
Looks like 0% financing extended thru 6/30 now. A liitle cash back would be nice too.

Hi all, new here. Been hanging around board since sport wagon discussion started. Today ordered squall blue wagon, after building on web site.(loaded) Expect great deal since I run dealer trades for this GM & mazda dealer. Less than invoice I am sure. Have driven many 6s, much impressed. Presently have 98 outback. Great vehicle and being in Minn will miss AWD. 60 day wait for wagon I am told so expect around June 10. Ole

I wonder if a fully assembled mountain bike can fit inside if it lays on its side?
If not, what about with the front wheel of the bike removed?
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
I don't think it will be a problem in a wagon with the wheel on. I plan on doing it with a 5-door.
  • ebeneben Member Posts: 26
#752, don't worry, I test drove a wagon last weekend and my wife's adult trike (3-wheeler) fit!
  • joey2brixjoey2brix Member Posts: 463
How tall is that? Sounds like almost 4ft of clearance from floor to headliner in the back.
I have to take my tape measure to the Autoshow this week.
  • jlasorsajlasorsa Member Posts: 22
One of the reasons I waited for the wagon was to have something sporty that can still carry my bikes. I had to take off both wheels, but I got 2 bikes 4 wheels and our bags in the very back with seats up and 4 people in the car.
  • ebeneben Member Posts: 26
The opening is around 31-32 inches tall (didn't measure width, but car is 70 inches wide so figure the width at 50 inches minimum).
  • joey2brixjoey2brix Member Posts: 463
Just back from the NY autoshow. IMO, the 6 wagon has the clear overall sport styling over the new Outback/Legacy, both interior and exterior. The top end Eddie B. Edition has a nice Momo steering wheel, but in general, I still find it bland compared to the 6 Wagon. I guess if you realy need the 4WD, it's nice but I'd be happy with the 6 wagon and the great price.

I just drove a 6 wagon at Joe Myers Mazda in Houston. They had several available, but none with leather or 5-speed manual. They also had several hatches. One of the wagons had the "1SE" sport package that I thought looked nice.

Something that surprised me was that it didn't have the electro-luminescent gauges like the sedans have with the sport package.

Something else that surprised me was that they didn't have a single 6 in any of the three body styles that had a V6 and 5-spd manual. I wanted to drive both a stick and an auto, but only automatics were available. The acceleration of the auto didn't really impress me. I'm hoping the manual will be a bit more fun to drive. I'm afraid the manuals will be few and far between. The salesman said they might have to order the car if I was at all picky about options, colors, etc. and wanted the manual transmissions. This means a 6-8 week wait and perhaps a premium on price. I'm not sure if they would be so willing to deal on a car that isn't even built yet.

Well, I'm going to sit tight, wait for the V50 T-5, redesigned Legacy, and Magnum, and see which best balances my personal desires for price, performance, features, room, gas mileage, etc.

    Good luck everyone!
  • yugoboyyugoboy Member Posts: 161
I would agree, i think waiting for the v50 and especially the redesign legacy gt wagon will be worth it. The 6 wagon is nice, i love the rear folding seat release, but i think the subie is going to take the cake. If price is an issue hold off on the turbo legacy and go with the natural aspirated engine, could be similar in price to the 6 wagon.

Anyone have actual numbers on the wagon gas milage yet w/ automatic?
    thanks for any input.
  • subewannabesubewannabe Member Posts: 403
The Mazda USA build-a-car pages on their website , when you get to the end, include a vehicle locator that will locate closest dealer with the car you build using your zip code. I built a Wagon with the MT, luxury package and bose audio package and moonroof in ash metallic and the site found one about 150 miles away. My local dealers want me to drive a V6 sedan w/ MT for the feel and look at the wagons they have on the lot w/ AT for features, size, etc.
I also noticed from the Mazda site that not all colors are available if you go with the MT...no sepang green or squall blue, for example.

I can get the new Subarus at invoice and the Mazda on the S plan, so Im going to drive both before I decide.

Is the Sepang as grey in the skin as it is in pics?

Gad, I have a thing for that copper! What genius decided the wagon would sell in copper? :(

Does anyone know the wagon's cargo capacity.. with the rear seat folded and with the seat up.
I tried to access the spec info on Mazda's website, but for some reason it wouldn't download on my computer.
Also, does the wagon have dual taillamps on each side (like the sedan), or just a single lamp on each side? I couldn't tell from looking at the pics, and haven't seen a wagon in person yet. Thanks.
  • carguy04carguy04 Member Posts: 22
I searched the web, found one site that lists the wagon's cargo capacity at 60.4 with the rear seat folded, and 33.7 with the seat up. I also found the stats for the 6 Hatch... 58.7 seat folded, and 22.0 seat up.
Thanks for the link to the photos, Bigdadi. I looked them over, and it appears the wagon's amber turn signal is positioned on the corner lens. The lamps to me look a little different than the sedan's. I am going to a local auto show tomorrow, so hope to find both the wagon and hatch there.
  • wongpreswongpres Member Posts: 422
While the Mazda6 sedan & hatch tailights have seperate bezels for the turn-signals and reverse lights, these two lights are combined into a single bezel (with a vertical split inside the bezel) in the Flat Rock assembled wagons.

Interestingly, this is different than the Mazda6 wagon's assembled in Japan, which do have two seperate bezels (but with one-quarter of the turn-signal bezel cut-off).

The reason for this difference is the side reflector requirements in N. America (which is also why the tail-lights have a bulge on all the N. American-spec Mazda6 models).

How does the saying go "better late than never!" I guess we can use it in this case, it's just too bad, there was virtually no competition when this wagon was actually released, now there is a plentiful supply of competitors!!!!

Nearly 3 years for mazda to get this wagon here, i would of bought it in an instance if it were here just a year earlier!!! Nevertheless this vehicles will be huge for mazda, i just wish i could be a part of it, the sub legacy wagon will be getting my hard working dollar, minus the 30% that goes to old uncle sam!!!!

    here's a good review!!!!

Nearly three years, and it is only partially here. No 4-cylinder yet.

"Nearly three years, and it is only partially here. No 4-cylinder yet."

And there won't be unless gas hits $3.00 a gallon and stays that high. In the rest of the world you can't get the V6.
  • dudleyrdudleyr Member Posts: 3,469
"And there won't be unless gas hits $3.00 a gallon and stays that high"

Must be nice to have the scoop from Mazda. They must have made a mistake bringing over the 4-cyl sedan then. Maybe it is just for California. $2.30 a gallon there now.
