I think it is a very good deal for someone who has no money nor pays any attention to value. At the end he is getting new car. If he cared about digging himself out of financial hole, he would look at the used car market.
  • doubles3doubles3 Member Posts: 21
It is a waste of money. The 15K 30K... IMO are dealer recommended services which bring little value. They seem to push them pretty hard every time I go for oil change, which I always decline. I really do not want to pay someone $300 to change oil and kick tires aroudn ... For the warranty purposes all you need is to change oil on time. Over years my 3 Toyotas, I never went for any of this services and never bought extended warranty. I usually keep my cars 9-10 years.

However, at the end if it makes you feel "better", go for it.

the reason for him getting needing to get out of his lease is not so much a financial one. i don't know why you would assume he does not pay attention to value?

he has went to a few used car dealers, none of which were giving him a decent offer on his jeep, but besides all that, what exactly in this deal looks enticing to you?

do you like the price on the car of $25,100?

do you like the apr of 9%

do you like the negative trade in offer of $15,000-$19,700=$4,700

do you like the no money down part?

can you please elaborate on your reply, because all i under stood in your post was, i think this is a good deal for a fool with no money.
  • doubles3doubles3 Member Posts: 21
Well, if someone needs to have their loan cosigned by another person with 670 Fico, it implies financial trouble.

I just don't like when people buy expensive stuff with no money down (i.e. no vested interest) and than are surprised that at some point later they own more money than it is worth and looking for way out.

Personally, If I was him, I would trade in my jeep for a used car 2-3 year old and let someone else eat the 20% depriciation on first year.

None of the items you listed would be acceptable to me. Yet, your friend may find them totally acceptable.
  • mcdawggmcdawgg Member Posts: 1,722
I completely agree. I never go back to the dealer for maintenance, not even for oil changes. But I follow the maintenance guide that comes with the car and keep documentation for the work that I do, like oil changes, etc. That way, my warranty is valid and I save big $. On the newer Toyotas, there is very little maintenance required. I also do not buy the extended warranty, and I keep mine about 10 years. The extended warranty never would have paid off on any of my Toyotas.

credit trouble and cash flow are two separate entities, people with money can have bad credit for many different reasons, just like some people have no money but good credit....

he was trying to get him self into a used car, he was looking at exactly what you had suggested 2-3 year old ones, but for whatever reasons he could not come to terms with them, than he tried a new car dealer and got the above what i posted.

his new payment of $600 would be a little north of $100 he paid monthly for his jeep, im not defending any of his decisions or saying they were the correct ones but his situation is atypical.

i guess what i really want to know are the following-

what is a "good" price on that car

what would be a good offer for his jeep, a real one that a dealer would give you, after getting the "good" price on the camry

where does this 9% apr stand, along the terms of his credit being bad, besides the 2 new cars he had bought never being late, with a co signer with a 670 fico

the reason he doesn't put any money down is a different thing all together, but i don't think it has any baring....

with the negative equity and the price of the car after taxes etc.... im assuming the car is now about 31k @ 9% apr for 72 months, is 600 a reasonable monthly payment, taking into account that there will be no money put down?

I recommend cancelling...all that stuff you're buying is a BIG rip off and a big profit generator for the dealer..just follow the factory owner's manual re oil changes, etc and keep the receipts..that way you'll be covered if your car needs warranty repairs..

I can get a used certified 2009 Camry LE (AT) for $18500 at my local dealer. It has about 10K miles and come with the extended 100,000 miles or 7-year/ warranty.

    OR

the Brand new 2010 Camry LE (AT) for $22000.

The extended warranty draws me towards the used 2009. What do you think is the better buy? Thanks
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
Are those OTD prices? If those prices are before TTL, I rather go w/ the 2010. People shouldn't have much problem getting 2010 for around 20K-20.5K + TTL.

If you can get the certified 2009 for 18.5K OTD, it's pretty good.
  • mcdawggmcdawgg Member Posts: 1,722
I'd go for the 2010. It has stability control, skid control, 2.5L engine is more responsive. But, it could depend on the costs - are the costs you listed total, out-the-door with tax, or not? In general, a Toyota or Honda used is a lot of money and not worth it compared to a Ford, GM, etc. If you are going to buy used, buy a Ford, GM, etc.

Bought a new 2010 Toyota Camry SE Automatic with sports convenience package and moonroof for $23,900 before TTL. MSRP on this vehicle including destination charge is $27,420 ($26,670 + $750). I got it about 12-13">% below MSRP. With TTL it came out to $26,700 because I live in So. Cal and our sales tax rate is 9.75%. I also got 0% APR financing for 60 months. I got my windows tinted this past weekend. I love this car!
  • danjacquidanjacqui Member Posts: 3
Thanks. Those are not OTD prices. They are before TTL.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
...go w/ 2010 then. If you can wait a little bit, you might even be able to get around 19K+ TTL. 2011 might be around the corner, they've been introduced the new model year around Feb. for the last 3 years.

Nice car and deal! Can you tell me what other options were on it to get to $27,420 MSRP? Edmunds shows SE Auto with moonroof and sports convenience at $25,080.

Also - what part of the country are you in? I'm in N. California and 0% financing isn't listed as available here.

    Thanks!

Hi, could you tell me which dealer you bought the camry? thanks.

This is what the dealer sent me when I was looking for a vehicle online. Do internet shopping that is how I got my vehicle. I could have probably gotten a lower price later when the dealerships are needing to sell, but the 0% was ending Sept. 8, 2009, so I had to act fast because that alone saved me a couple thousand. I was a little off on the MSRP of the vehicle it was actually $26,570 not $27,420 since the MSRP is already included in the price. I still got more than 10% off MSRP.

Southcoast Toyota, I did my shopping via internet. You need to get quotes from lots of dealerships via email, so you can have bargaining power.

    Hi

I plan to buy a Black 2010 toyota camry LE, near folsom,ca. I m trying for internet quotes and am currently receiving lowest of 21,900 (with bluetooth, ipod interface, mats etc, and Paint protection (I know basically wax!)). I will get an additional 1000 off for new graduate rebate. But do you think I can go lower? If so how much more? Does the LE come wih the bluetooth, ipod interface included?

Another important question. Can I get all the rebates (750 + 1000) if I pay in full, or is it only for toyota financed cars? When I say pay in full, do i need to carry cash to the dealer or jsut write checks?

    Thanks

I found a great experience with a car dealer I wanted to share. I was looking for a car for my wife and she really hates going to car dealers to look. We found that this was with out a doubt our best car buying experience in over 20 years of marriage. We started by looking online the website was awsome and really helpful and helped narrow our search down to the Toyota Camry. We went to Caldwell Toyota in Conway Arkansas, it's close to were we live. They have a new dealership that is really very nice next to the highway. I have to say from the moment we arrived everyone was very polite and professional. I stayed in the back ground and let my wife shop with the salesmen who was helping us. It's was her car so I let her make choose the new Camry. I watched and listened as the sales person talked with us and asked my wife how she would be using the car and how many miles she drove each day. He gave her examples of the gas savings as well as a very complete presentation of the safety features and how they could help us in an emergency. The test drive was surprising and when we got back to the dealer we told each other we liked the car and we really did feel we had a great understanding of what we were getting. Our sales person then introduced us to the sales Manager and the service manager as well. I have to say I was very impressed with this dealership and it's management and staff. Mr Caldwell you have a great team and a beautiful eco friendly green dealership you should be very proud of them. You also have two new customers who really love their new 2010 Toyota Camry. Thank you to Caldwell Toyota Conway Arkansas!

Just bought a 2010 Camry base with the option of mats and remote key. In this way the only difference between this car and LE model is the power seat.

Dealer said they had four base cars on promotion, and the price was 18900. After TTL the price is 20700. Get student rebate 1000 off. So the final OTD price is 19700. Is this a good deal? :confuse:

I just saw the dealer's website saying that if I register on their website and make an appoinment before I test driving, I can save another 250. What a pity I see it till today...

    Need more info:

    1. manual or automatic?

    2. tax rate? This way, we can see how much your doc fees, etc. are.

    3. remote key - how much? Maybe you are in the South East? This is not a factory option.
  • monitor2234monitor2234 Member Posts: 3
    It is automatic.
    Tax rate is 3%.
    Remote key is 279.

I'm about to buy a 2010 XLE V6 Camry sight unseen. I've seen the model...but it has an option listed as "Nano Heat Rejection Window Tint-TWHR50". Has anyone seen this? Is it dark? Does it look like a mirror?

    Thanks.
  • mcdawggmcdawgg Member Posts: 1,722
That's not bad, you could have done a little better, but not bad. The $1,000 student rebate from Toyota is a good deal - I wish they had this back when I graduated.

Congratulations on graduation and your car. Enjoy it! I have a 2010 base manual transmission and a 2007 base manual, and they are great cars.
  • monitor2234monitor2234 Member Posts: 3
    Thank you :)
I also had a manual car before. It was a Miata. Camry is much more quiet and comfortable and I love my new car :shades:

Dealers in TX is hard to deal with. Got a $20.6k quote for 2010 Camry LE auto. Nothing extra, except the usual floor/trunk mat. They have $400 extra trade-in value deal going on now. So I guess it aint that bad.

Recently, i got an offer for Camry LE I4 Auto Super White $21,077 (including the destination)+T/L + Tax which was a very good deal. However, last year once i saw a commercial on T.Vs, Toyota was discount $1000 to $1500. Should i wait to the end of 2009 to get a good price for Camry 2010? Does anyone have any idea?
  • mcdawggmcdawgg Member Posts: 1,722
No one knows. Obviously, it is a closely-guarded secret what the rebates will be next month, etc. for obvious reasons. Also, I'm sure even Toyota corporate doesn't know what they will be in December - it depends on the market conditions. Finally, the incentives vary based on what region you are located in.

The inventories at the dealerships are still low and the production is still catching up post clunkers....i would suggest waiting for another couple months until the time they have produced a lot of cars and there is no one to buy them again. Dec 15th-31st is typically the best time of the year for bargains and good deals..

I bought a 2010 Camry LE AUTO around July end and i got one for 18,400+Tax/Fees (CA), OTD price of 20,600 in Los Angeles.

Wait for the inventory levels to go up and you will see both discounts from Toyota and the dealerships willing to discount as well...just a matter of time again...
  • cam2010lecam2010le Member Posts: 4
Thanks for the advice and i will take that a suggestion to save some money. In addition, i also consider honda EX_L 2009, one of the dealers in the Bay Area offered $22,799 OTD but between Accord EX_L I4 vs. Camry LE 2010 I4 (both automatic), if you, which one would you pick? I heard Accord has many issues such as road noise, break squealing after 3000k, uncomfortable driver seat but it looks more luxury from in and out compared to Toy Camry with cheap interior insides. Please advice.
  • mike_smithmike_smith Member Posts: 11
I also looked at 2009 Accord before deciding to buy the Camry. the major issue for me was the brake issue that accord has and honda is not doing anything to fix it or do a recall on them. i did not want the heartbreak of having to worry about such a thing within 6 months of buying a brand new car. A friend of mine owns a 2009 Accord that he bought and had the braking issue within 6-7 months and he was very upset about it...He also owns an older version of Camry (2005) and he says that if you are looking for a smooth ride, go for camry cos accord doesnt even come close...However if you are looking for better handling (Accord has a harder power steering compared to Camry) etc etc then accord may be an option.

with all these factors i chose to go with Camry since i prefer a smooth ride over handling and the fact that i did not want to worry about any repairs for the issues that are already very widely known and too bad Honda is not doing anything to fix them.

did you test drive both Accord and Camry ?? 2010 Accord might be hitting the dealerships now, i am not sure if they added anything new in the 2010 version over 2009 version.

I was absolutely sold on the Camry once i test drove it and ended up buying the same car that i test drove since the dealership had a brand new car they gave me to test drive.

also i would suggest a lot of online/email bargaining before you actually go to the dealership. get qoutes from a lot of dealerships and have them fight amongst each other. thats the best tool and might knock several hundred dollars on the final price. Every penny helps.

Look for newspapers ads publicizing the cars are low prices, once the inventory level rises and you start seeing these ads you will notice the change in dealer attitude. For the last 2 weeks of clunkers and a week after that LATIMES had a ton of dealership ads but NO ONE had a camry on sale since there was no inventory. Check the dealer website to see how many they have in stock, this gives you a fair idea about whether they are eager to drop the price and sell or not.
  • mcdawggmcdawgg Member Posts: 1,722
Both good cars, but Camry is quieter and ride is more plush or smooth. Some people don't like this. They say the Camry doesn't corner well (like a sports car) and they don't like the "disconnected from the road" feel, and doesn't "handle" well. It's like the ride quality difference between a Cadillac and a Corvette - one is better for some things, the other is better for other things. Depends on your preference.

Sounds like you paid around 18,500 for just the car, not bad for Texas.
  • augcarbuyeraugcarbuyer Member Posts: 18
This is the sad result of the double whammy brought to us by the clunkers program. It not only robs one's tax dollars to pay for other's clunkers, but also drives up the price on the popular models for many months to come. I would be a lot happier if they just hand out $4500 cash to whoever turns in a clunker. But now, for this same Camry LE, you are looking at $2k more at least.

I am sure most people who visited this forum want to get a good deal on the Camry. Now it is just not the right time to buy a Camry or a Corolla for that matter, unless you can't wait or have extra cash to throw at this.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750

I'm not sure about your location but the price of these cars have been coming down for the past 4 weeks. You can get a 2010 Camry LE for $19,731 at fitzmall. I don't think you can get a 2010 LE for $17,731 before the CFC, may be in a rare case.

Looking to buy a new 2010 Camry LE or SE l4 Auto.
Seems like LE based model price is around 19.8k. What is a price for SE based model? SE just look so much better than LE.
  • tomkentomken Member Posts: 20
I'm been looking to buy a Camry for the last 2 months (before the Clunker rebate).
2 months ago I got quote for a white LE l4 Auto for $19.8k after 1k rebate. The price is good to me, but I don't like white color. Last month I got quote for around $21.5k. This month is still the same, but they have a 1k rebate for LE model, so it cut it down to $20.6k. This is in Texas.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
Actually, toyota has been offered the 1k cash back in TX for a while, might be even before the C4C. I know it was 1K in Aug.
  • cam2010lecam2010le Member Posts: 4
Absolutely agree! Totota brings up a price and it's not as used to be especially this time of year. I am now to follow-up and monitor with local newspapers (Bay Area). It's too bad that i am not qualify for C4C which would save a lot of money.

Hundred of Camrys will be in the lot soon from 6 to 8 weeks from today as Oct 4th including Highlander 2010 with highly demand. Hopefully, the price would bring down plus some good with incentive programs for us.
  • cam2010lecam2010le Member Posts: 4
Follow up with LE now in my Bay area (MRSP 22,850- 1,912 dealer discount, plus 750 factory rebate and 2.9% finacing for 48 months.
  • tomkentomken Member Posts: 20
Got a quote on 2010 Toyota Camry SE I4 AT in Houston, TX area for $22,398 after $500 rebate (MSRP $24,822). Only thing added is the rear spoiler. Come with floor/trunk mat (as always) and the vehicle shield package.

Another dealer offer me the same price for the same model and option and telling me that the price is $100 over the cost. Which I don't think they are telling the truth.

    Is this a good price?
