ral2167 - The one that I am looking for is Panasonic 8 CD changer. Crutchfield suggested that I need to buy an adaptor for the connection. There is no further info about how am I control it.
  • ral2167ral2167 Member Posts: 791
if i understand this right-- you're keeping the radio that came with your toyota... the JBL--- you're merely adding a cd changer that will be FM-modulated... right?

if so, i think you're buying the WRONG cd changer... the panasonic models i saw at the crutchfield site all require panasonic receivers--- don't you want to keep the JBL toyota radio???

if so, go back to the crutchfield website, then get to the car audio changers section and choose CD-CHANGERS- UNIVERSAL ADD-ON-- there are 12 choices of changers, none of which are panasonic....

out of those 12, you will see that the remotes are either wired or wireless.... that's how you control the changer...

personally, i'd choose a wireless remote model--- i had good success with the pioneer fm-1287 model-- a 12 disc... there's a 6 disc pioneer also that's wireless...

let me know if this all makes sense...
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
Yes. I am keeping my JBL 3-in-1 sound system with single disc. I first looked to see if Toyota has the trunk mounted CD changer. One dealer told me the part number and price over the internet. The Camry Accessory brochure also mentioned this (no picture).

I don't want to upgrade the system with the JBL 3-in-1 with in dash 6 CD changer. The existing system is nice and it is already in the car.

Anyway, I put my car info on Crutchfield website (click on What fits my car?) and they showed me two Panasonic CD changers (6-CD and 8-CD) plus several choices of the 6x9 speakers. The CD changers are add-on and they suggested the adaptor for connection. And both Toyota dealer and Crutchfield have no further info on the changer.

How is your system lay out? JBL (single disc)? Or a whole new aftermarket system?
  • ral2167ral2167 Member Posts: 791
in my 99 solara i had the upgraded jbl system---radio/cd/tape/speakers... i kept all that

i just added the aftermarket pioneer cd changer-- i don't think it needed any adapter... i didn't install it myself tho...

the installer did the work... just tune the station to some low number on the FM dial-- 88.9 or something...and you're ready to listen...

i inputted 2003 camry in the crutchfield site-- it showed NO cd changers compatible with the 2003 JBL ... the only panasonic changers are described as needing panasonic receivers... maybe i'm missing something

use the wireless remote to change tracks or cd's... simple.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
I think Crutchfield showed these factory-compatible (OEM) changers for non-JBL system. The system that all Camrys use is properly made by Panasonic. So they suggested the Panasonic CD changer. With the non-JBL system, you can use the changer (adaptor needed) as long as you have the CD button. Anyway, I don't see any different between non-JBL and JBL system (both with single disc). The JBL properly has more power, 200watt.

BTW, are the speakers also made by JBL? I looked up the rear speakers and couldn't see any JBL wording, not even on the speaker grills, except the JBL word on the receiver.

I bought a 02 Solara SE used, with 14K miles on it. Paid $14,000 for the car. Came with the JBL stereo system, alloy wheels, and rear spoiler. Bought the car here in Phoenix, AZ. The prices of used cars have dropped dramatically because of lower sales and the glut of used cars from leases. If you are considering buying another car, now is the time. I love my Solara, it Red, and I have equipped it with a front bra and dash cover.

I very recently purchased an xls v6 with premium plus for 24k plus tax,etc in Southwest Florida. I don't think I got an especially great deal, however, I was very impressed with the dealership.

I purchased an 03 Camry SE 5-sp in the Dallas area with the following equipment for $18,000. The best price quoted for an Accord EX was no where near.

    03 SE
    5 speed
    Sunroof
    Spoiler
    6 disks indash JBL
    Rear shade
    Mats
    Cargo Net
    16" alloy wheels

What dealer did you purchase your Camry from?
  • masspectormasspector Member Posts: 509
When you say no where near, How much was the lowest accord offer?
  • xbbusterxbbuster Member Posts: 145
About a year ago I was checking on prices for the '02 LE that I eventually bought. I wish now that someone had given me this advice: Check what Camry owners are saying about how Toyota responds to problems common to their cars; oil sludge, transmission clunk, and accelerator hesitation.
  • vqnvqn Member Posts: 7
I bought it from Toyota of Plano, about 40 miles from my house. I had wanted to get an Accord EX 5-speed, but the best price quoted was $19.8. Two weeks ago, I had to attend a meeting in Plano, and I stopped by the dealer during lunch to test drive the SE with no intention to buy one; I bought it that day. I have owned 3 Accords the in past and currently own a Honda Pilot, and I can say that overall Toyota has better quality.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
$18000 is a very best deal. I assumed it is a 4 cylinder. I bought mine 03 SE Auto (4 cyl) for $20388 (MSRP = $224??) with the same thing you have but not a 6CD. Was it their asking price or your negotiate price? Or was it one of few in their lot? I asked several local dealers about the SE. They don't have too many in stock or order too many of them because not too many people like the sport tuned suspension. And Toyota don't make too many of the SE.
  • vqnvqn Member Posts: 7
There were two SE's on the lot that day. The other one was a V6 auto. The dealer told me that they normally don't stock SE 5spd. From the sticker, my car was at the dealer for 5 months, and the odometer had 89 miles. I think that was why they were motivated to sell it. The sport-tuned suspension is great on the highway; however, it is a little harsh for city driving. The MSRP for the car was $22,3xx. I also bought the extended 6/100K warranty from Toyota for $695. I also financed it through Toyota for 5 year at 3.99%.
  • masspectormasspector Member Posts: 509
I saw the same thing you did as far as pricing. I am not sure where people are getting the idea that camry's cost more than accords. It may depend on what trim level you are looking at. I was comparing a 4 cyl xle with a 4cyl ex-l and the accord was more expensive.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
vyn - I assumed your car is 4 cylinder. And it looks like they were willing to sell you that for below dealer invoice because they were losing the holdback. Also, my dealer told me that Toyota only make 1% of the Camry LE with 5 speed. I am sure this is the same thing with SE. Anyway, I have no intention to buy a Camry. I and my wife test drove a RAV4. She like the look but not the ride. BTW, we know it is a SUV. Then we tried the Camry and love it. We first looked at LE with ABS and sunroof. That would cost us $197XX. We went to the dealer days later and found the SE is even better looking with rear spoiler, fog lights, blackout headlamps and 16" wheels. And it is also silver (lunar mist). I didn't buy the extended warranty. They first quoted $13XX. Then cut it from $65X to $58X. But I took the 0% APR.

masspector - I didn't do any research on Accord. So I don't know about the pricing. But I have seen Honda would put more options as standard like sunroof, foglights, ABS, alloy wheels on their top of the line model. And it would be a pricy option on Toyota. On the other, Toyota is a big automaker. They offer more incentive and cash back which gives the lower price for the consumers.

Aspen green/taupe. Options: HU premium pkg, BE side airbags, HD heated seats, PV 5 pc floor and trunk mat set.

I got my LE V6 (no extra options, just the standard stuff) for $17,538. But it was an ad car so it's probably not the best price barometer. My main gripe is the rear shelf (where the speakers are) rattle like crazy when going over not-so-smooth roads. Turns out many other camry owners are complaining of this too. Quite disappointing to me a brand new car, especially a Toyota, would suffer from such build quality issues. Otherwise it's a pretty nice vehicle.

I am sure if I should buy now, Ive been offered 22500 (that is including taxes and everything).

Should I wait it out or just buy now? thanks!

I am shopping for a new 2003 LE. I've been quoted $20,662 with the following options: ABS, side airbags, floor mats, and adding a moonroof from a Twin Cities, MN dealership. I am with a credit union and so this should be invoice + $300. Edmunds.com seems to price under $19K, how would this be? thanks,
    K
  • ral2167ral2167 Member Posts: 791
well--there's been a toyota coupon in the ohio newspapers here-- make your best deal, then present a coupon for an additional $1250 off on a camry.

so to my way of thinking, if you're paying invoice +$300, then you're paying at least $1250 too much...unless minnesota area dealers are not doing the same as what ohio dealers are.

    am i nuts?
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
Here in MA. I think we can get on LE (4 cyl) with auto for $16700. I don't recall any factory option on it. But I think we can end up one like yours under $20K or high $19K.
  • steveb84steveb84 Member Posts: 187
Ohio is in the Cincinatti Region, Minnesota is in the Chicago Region - different regions and have different promotional programs.

In Minnesota, there is a choice of $ 700 rebate, low financing, or special lease rates. Of course these are after you've gotten your best price from the dealer.

I bought a 2003 camry LE v6 in NJ. To my surprise, the salesman charged me $384 for dealer advertising fee. Is this a reasonable fee charged of customer? Thanks.
  • bronzemaxellbronzemaxell Member Posts: 55
when i bought my 03 camry across the river from NJ, the dealer didn't explicitly charge TDA on my vehicle, and he was complaining that he didn't charge me, maybe dealer want to get rid of the car so bad. i just brought them the Edmunds quote printout, and they matched Edmunds price.
  • 1200mk1200mk Member Posts: 14
I just got a quote today for 22300 for a camry v6 SE with moonroof and dealer installed alarm. + lifetime oil changes. The only problem I have with this is that the car is not made in Japan.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
I thought Toyota only ship few of them (Camry)from Japan and build most of them in Kentruy. For the dealer installed alarm, are you getting the Toyota VIP R3200 (code = VP5), Toyota factory keyless entry or dealer installed aftermarket alarm?
  • 1200mk1200mk Member Posts: 14
All new camrys have keyless entry no? Well anyways they said they would install an alarm for the car at the dealership. So Iam assuming that they will install the rs3200....... whats the different btwn rs3200 and the 3200 plus? thanks
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
I am not sure. Toyota VIP (Vehicle Intrusion Protection) RS3200 Security System (on LE and SE models) can be installed with or without factory security or remote keyless entry. For the RS3200 Plus Security System (on LE and SE models), it can be installed only with factory remote keyless entry. The Glass Breakage Sensor (GBS) can be installed with any factory security (RS3200 or RS3200 Plus).

I think the better deal for the RS3200 Plus is $250 plus $90 for GBS. You have to ask them if they are installing the Toyota OEM or aftermarket.

I am looking for a dealer in detroit are for a Camry. Can somebody guide me which dealer is willing to work without much haggle.
  • masspectormasspector Member Posts: 509
If you go in and offer MSRP I am sure any dealer "will be willing to work without any haggle".

i think your question is which dealer will give me the best price with the least haggle. This all depends on what you think is the best price. If you are willing to pay a little over invoice, then most dealers should be pretty easy to work with. however if your idea of a good deal is $500 below invocie before rebates, you will have to work to get that. Most dealers are not going to just keel over and over you the rock bottom price upfront without some work and haggling on your part.

I thought all SE are made in Japan. My SE did come from Japan. It was put together better than my mom 03 XLE, which was made in the US.
  • codetalkercodetalker Member Posts: 11
Paid $17400 for the LE with only ABS as an option. Got the car at Newbold Toyota in the St. Louis metro area. The car was new with 4 miles on the odometer. Got the 0% APR for 36 months.

The dealer next door was a Honda dealer and they had the Accord for $22840 firm. The Accord certainly was a nice car with more bells and whistles but I didn't feel like spending the extra $5k.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
vgn - My 2003 Camry SE (4 cyl) was made in US. Most Camrys (including Solara) are build in US. Some of them are from Japan. What do you mean your SE (made in Japan) is better than your mom XLE (made in US)? Is her XLE having some kind of trouble?
  • mackabeemackabee Member Posts: 4,709
Most Camrys are made in Kentucky, some are made in Japan. The current Solara is made in Canada not the US. The 04 Solara will be made in Kentucky.

I just bought a new 03 Camry Le yesterday at Sandyspring Toyota in Atlanta.

A month ago I missed a deal at Toyota Mall of Ga. I asked for 17,500 drive out. After a few round, sale managers came out and tell me that he would not sell it for less than 18,800. As I stood up, he lower down to 18,000. Then as I walked away he asked me if I could do 17,600. I thought he was going to sell it since there was only 100 dollars different. So I just kept walking and unfortunately he just let me walk out.

Two days later, I came back and told the sale man that I would like to take that deal( 17,600). This time another sale manager came out and tell me that I should have taken the deal 2 days ago. He also let me know that he would not be able to do 17,600 but 18,050.
Again, I left the dealership without the car.

On Jul 6, I got a quote from Stonemountain Toyota and Sandyspring in the amount of 18,050. But Shawn from Sandyspring told me that he could beat other dealership up to $500. On July 7, I called him back and asked him if he could do 17,600. Five minutes later he called back and tell me he could do for 17,400 (drive out). That's how I got the car.

03 Camry LE (phantom grey pearl)
    Cash price 18,650
Cash back 1,250 (This is ended 7/7/03)
    Final 17,400

I put down $5,000 and refinance the rest for 60 months with 5.45%

So my silly question is :

Do any of you think I got a good deal or not?

My wife is really happy, but I think I should have asked for more.

example: cash price 18,050 (instead 18,650)
             cash back 1,250

    then final price 16,800

Somehow, I felt like I still have overpaid about $600

I really appreciate if you can give me your thoughts

    Thanks

I went to walker toyota in Dayton Ohio. I got a quote for the camrey for 18,500 ( including tax) . Is this price too high. I have read the previous forums and people have said that they have bought it for 17500. Any suggestion Please Help. Also People say walker toyota is not good in bargaining . Please help
  • yengiangyengiang Member Posts: 6
    Hi xbunch,

Read my message I posted earlier. I think 18,500 drive out is still high. Many dealers are more than willing to do 18,050. If you work really really and I mean really hard, you may be able to find one that can do 17,100-18,000. Since the 1,250 rebate expired yesterday, you may have to wait till the end of the month for another special promotion.

If there is a rebate: Work hard for the best price and then use the rebate last.

If there is no rebate: Work harder for the best price.

Here in N Calif. the 1,000 rebate has been extended through 7/31. The best price I've seen is 16,500 after the rebate. So, this would mean about 18,150 out the door. Hertz is selling the 02's for 13,995.
  • camleecamlee Member Posts: 1
I just bought camry XLE in Seattle last Sunday.
It has premium plus package, side & curtain airbags, moonroof, front seat heating, etc. I paid about $23,000 in cash!
I don't think I made a good deal, considering $1,000 factroy rebate. In retrospect, I think I should have done more research.

Do you think I paid too much?
Some feedbacks would greatly help other buyers to get an idea about current price on this vehicle.

*Questions #1: so far driving feels smooth, but I hear some rattling noise here and there inside. Maybe interiors are not tightly assembled. Is it normal for new Camry? Should I complain to dealer for checking and adjustment?

*Questions #2: The dealer suggested that I should buy exterior treatment plan. It costs $199. They will wax treatment (or coating?)the car every 6 months for 3 years. I figure that's a totla of 6 time treatments. Is it worth buying it? Should I get the treatment done somewhere other than dealer? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
  • bronzemaxellbronzemaxell Member Posts: 55
IMHO, exterior treatment is just another sales they want to squeeze from the customers who has cash to burn, my overpriced Toyota gold metallic RX300 has never been waxed in last 4 years, and the paint job still look new. i think waxing is just to cover the old dirts and leaves shiny marks on the vehicle.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
yengiang - $18000 is too high. I think $17400 is fair or close to a good deal. Friend of mine got his 03 Camry LE (4 cyl, auto with no extra option) for $16700 after the factory cash back a month ago here in MA.
  • yengiangyengiang Member Posts: 6
I'm totally agree with you that 16,700 (drive out) is the best price. That's why I'm still thinking that I should have negociated more.

I've talked to 5 dealers in Atlanta and the best quote I got from them is 18,000.

    Thanks
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
I am sure someone can do much better than the $16700 for Camry LE (4 cyl) with auto but with ABS, side airbags or sunroof. I think the best deal is in $16K price range by having all these factory cash back, incentive and the year end clearance. The manufacturer is wrapping up the 2003 production. The dealers must sell all the 03 models and make room for the 04. Just be firm on pricing. Good luck!
  • yengiangyengiang Member Posts: 6
I already bought a 03 Camry LE (4 cyl-auto)without any option or even a floor mat for 17,400 (drive out) after rebate.

I really want to wait for 04 models(out in Sept) but my wife can't wait and of course price will be more expensive.
