Yes, it is a base price. I need to add other fees and tax.

Any one purchased V6 SE in NYC area? I'm in Boston but due to the annoying regional option packaging, new england doesn't have one with vehicle stability control ( even though buyatoyota.com says it can). I've called a couple of dealers in Queens and got rather cocky responses- flying off the show room therefore sticker price.

Would it be too wishful to expect more reasonable price- $500+ invoice in NYC right now?
  • ilovecars1ilovecars1 Member Posts: 119
It is about $140 more than what I was expecting to pay. Now, with all these posts with hesitation problem, I am going to cancel the order (I think).

Also try going through the Costco auto program. It is available through Costco.com, click on services, the auto buying. All you have to have is a costco membership. If you don't just use a friend or family member's.

With regard to the keyless entry, you can get any after market security system and that can be programmed to have keyless entry as long as you have power doors. If not, you will also have to install actuators for each door so that when you push the button, the locks will flip.

With regard to trying to make myself and concertkey feel unreasonable about our purchase experience is unreasonable on your part. You have to understand that we are already Toyota owners that have had to deal with their growth over the years. My first Camry was a 1984 that I didn't have trouble with until it hit about 150K miles. I didn't event think about wanting a new one until it got to 179K miles. With my 99, I didn't like that it was built in KY because it had two recalls and I lost my car for two days each time. I was looking forward to the hybrid because it was built in Japan (where they are experienced) and I see the trouble that 2007 Camry owners are having and all the recalls so far are generated by the KY plant where they are going to produce the hybrids. Not only are they inexperience, they seem to have issues at that particular plant. I could care less about the lenght of production time, I just want to know when so that I can make sure that everthing I was planning (tax credit for IRS, tax deduction for CA FTB) will still be eligible and most of all, that it will be mfg in Japan.

As for the GM car sitting on the lot, these are Corvettes with limited production and I live in SoCal where the weather is good and they generally sell their allotments by the end of June. Besides, the one I am planning to buy is approximately $62K and will be a collectible. To have it manufactured specifically for you and picked up at the museum will have special nameplates on the car showing it was specially built for a particular owner. This is something that unless you understand the Corvette society, really cannot be explained. You can get an additional feel for it is you're interested in the Corvette Forums.

I had entered into a retail installment sales contract, but would like to cancell it as the delivery of the car will be delayed. How do I cancell the contract. Can I just call the delearship and do a verbal cancellation? or do I need to have something in writing
  • concertkeyconcertkey Member Posts: 59
I'm still patiently waiting for mine. However, I was out on fitzmall's site http://www.fitzmall.com/carfind/resultsb.asp and noticed an SE-V6 in White with Ash Gray Leather listed as "coming in soon." The price quoted was $500.00 over invoice and it had VSC.

    Hi!
I want to buy camry LE.
Can you let me know the dealshop?
Was it a basic one without options?
    How did other fees cost?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you!

I GOT A BASIC LE WITH NO OPTIONS FOR 21038 OTD PRICE. FROM JIM COLEMAN IN MD.
  • ilovecars1ilovecars1 Member Posts: 119
any problem with your LE yet?
  • safetrip1safetrip1 Member Posts: 15
Yes, I'm aware of fitzmall. I think of them as my last resort. So sounds like you have a car in order? Do you mind sharing your purchase experience- what price at what option? which dealership? How long is the wait etc?
  • concertkeyconcertkey Member Posts: 59
To spare regular readers of this forum any more of my frustrations with ordering this car, you can go back to message #3471 (although I posted earlier than this) and follow the trail. There are also several pointed messages within the past week. The good news is that I ordered the car this past May around invoice; the bad news is that it's nowhere to be found.
  • sammya_mdsammya_md Member Posts: 69
Yesterday I ordered a 2007 SE 4 cyl manual transmission car from Fitzgerald Toyota. Since the only addition option I wanted was a color rear lip spoiler (RF), and SE manuals with limited add ons are rare period, they said the best thing to do was order one. They quoted me a price of $500 above invoice, which was much better than I was getting anywhere else, and they are the closest dealer to me. Had a great experience there, and that is the 3rd toyota my family has bought from them.

I looked at 355 toyota but they were at least wanting $1000 above invoice, and didn't even have a manual camry (much less SE) for me to test drive.

I should hear back about how long to expect until I receive it later this week from the dealership. Overall they were very receptive to my custom order request, and walked me through every step.
  • concertkeyconcertkey Member Posts: 59
If your dealership does get back to you in a week about the wait, or better yet with a build date, please keep us informed. It has now been three months since I ordered my car
(SE-V6) from Caldwell Toyota (NJ) and I still do not have a build date.
  • njeraldnjerald Member Posts: 689
    That is ridiculous!!!
  • smile1017smile1017 Member Posts: 37
I am in SoCal and was informed that Toyota will build what they build. Your order is not actually a special order it is a "Preference" meaning that if a car comes in with your specified "preferences" they will call you first. They can also quote you any amount they want, but until there is a VIN assigned to you and you have a signed contract, they don't have to honor that quote. They only way they would have to is if you went through a car purchase program of some sort. All I am saying is BEWARE.
  • sammya_mdsammya_md Member Posts: 69
Your information is quite the contrary to what I was informed by Fitzgerald (not saying who is right, just what I was told by multiple people there). They said it will be custom made at the Toyota plant and then delivered shortly after that. However, I will have more information about everything (build date, time frame) in a couple of days (Wed or thursday) once the ordering manager submits the order to Toyota and hears back. I will keep everyone updated.

And what do you mean 'a car comes in with your specified preferences'. Do you mean to the dealership itself, or somewhere else?
  • smile1017smile1017 Member Posts: 37
It depends on the distribution method of your area. In SoCal, if you go to a large volume dealer, they have first pick by the ditributor. Once the car enters the port, the distributor will assign based on the dealers that have been ordering the most number of cars and their preference orders. For example Longo Toyota here is one of the largest in the area for volume. If they have ordered ten cars and five have customer preferences, those with preferences get assigned to Longo (and all the other volume dealers) first. The all the other dealerships preferences are assigned. If there are any cars left, they are then allocated again based on the volume. However, if the car you have preferenced is not available at the port, then you will have to wait for the next batch and so on a so forth. Basically, you can't get a car that they don't manfacture (like one that doesn't have the option that you have specified).

I do have to be clear though, your experience may be different because you are buying one that is built here in the US. I was ordering one coming from Japan - a hybrid. But I did check with a friend whose mom works for Toyota Corporate here and the distribution description above is what they do here for the cars that come through the port of LA.
  • sammya_mdsammya_md Member Posts: 69
This is something I will have to double check when the dealership calls me back later this week. As I had said before, they made it seem like they would submit the order, and then it would be put in a 'queue' to be produced.

The car is being produced in Kentucky, so like you said i'm not sure what changes that might have on the entire process.

I'm just hoping to have the car delivered by beginning of November (approx 3 months) at the latest, so hopefully it will all go smootly, although I realize there have been people experiencing problems getting their SE's.
  • megcormegcor Member Posts: 2
Did you ever find out what type of interest rates were out there.
  • hu5041534hu5041534 Member Posts: 6
Actually its being built and it will be here later this month, so i havent driven it yet, but we will see.
  • jayfayjayfay Member Posts: 9
I also ordered a XLE V6 with Nav.in May, it has been over 12 weeks and there is no notification or mention of the car anywhere to be found in the N.J. area. Is Navigation that hard to find? Or is the color blue ribbon metallic the problem? Is 12 weeks too long to wait? Why does Toyota say that this car is available when you can not find it? It is very frustrating!!!!!
  • ilovecars1ilovecars1 Member Posts: 119
what do you think about the hesitation problem that other people are reporting? did you see any when you test drove?
  • concertkeyconcertkey Member Posts: 59
It's past the point of being ridiculous. I finally called Toyota customer service yesterday but the rep simply gave me a case number and referred it back to my dealer. She said the customer service rep at my dealership would call within three business days, but claimed that there was nothing else that she could do. All I wanted to know is when my car was being built (she claimed that Toyota does not release this info to the general public) and when it was going to be delivered, hopefully at the grandfathered price on my contract.
  • hu5041534hu5041534 Member Posts: 6
yea i test drove it and i did feel the automatic switching gears, and some hesitation. but my mom has the 04 camry and it also had hesitation so i was kind of use to it. now for the gear switching i just thought it felt kinda like being in a manual car. so i didnt really see what the big fuss was about, i didnt expect it to drive like a bmw or anything. but honestly me and my uncle thought the ride was good and quiet. and he has the lexus es500 and the infiniti fx
  • ilovecars1ilovecars1 Member Posts: 119
Hi, did you include trunk and car mats to the price. Also, this price includes the licencing/title/documentation fees?
  • ickxerickxer Member Posts: 3
We just got a Camry Hybrid base model from Toyota of Redlands in Redlands. We are in northern California (Bay Area) and got a great deal and fantastic service. We arranged everything over the phone/internet. The car came in on Monday, my husband flew to Ontario on Tuesday morning, they picked him up and he drove back home.
From start to finish it took less than a week. ask for the lady who helped us (sorry can't publish her name).

We just got our Camry Hybrid yesterday from Toyota of Redlands in Southern California. We are in the San Francisco Bay area and got a great deal, the service was incredible. Contacted a charming saleslady last week, they had the car we wanted coming in this week. Agreed on price, arranged everything over the phone and internet. The car came in on Monday, my husband flew down to Ontario on Tuesday, they picked him up and he drove back home. Call them for a great deal as well. Strongly recommend them.
We have owned Toyota for 30 years and this was the best buying experience we ever had.
  • ncognito13ncognito13 Member Posts: 66
was quoted 23,485 for above car + 580 dest. On consumers reports states there is a 489 holdback and that the true dealer cost is 21,540. Was going to offer 22,186 + 580...that was turned down by another dealer stating his inv was 23,539 which I believe is nonsense. Any thoughts as to a good offer on this car? Thanks in advance....dealer has to get the car for me....
  • concertkeyconcertkey Member Posts: 59
Yeah - everything you mentioned and more! It's unfortunate to see that there are others in the area who are experiencing the same frustrations as I am. Did your dealer call you twice to let you know that you'll be paying more sales tax and a price increase as well? I complained to Toyota about raising the price on a car order that had been written months ago. I plan to take that up with the GM when I speak with him because the sales force was told to call the customers about the price increase.
  • hu5041534hu5041534 Member Posts: 6
well this is my first car that im buying and i didnt even know a car doesnt come with mats!!! i thought that was standard (i guess thats silly). but im sure my dealer will throw them in, he is pretty cool. but the price did include everything else.
  • ilovecars1ilovecars1 Member Posts: 119
that's a very good price I would say. For the same car I am supposed to pay 21800. $200 extra for tax difference I know.

    what color are you getting?
  • njeraldnjerald Member Posts: 689
    Albany where?

I know of 3 Albanys in different states but I'm sure there are more.

Fitzmall has this vehicle w/mats, VSC/TC, and wheel locks at dealer invoice of $23,457 (includes dest.). They are selling for $23,957.

W/o the mats and wheel locks, subtract $163.

If you are in the SE region, the dealer invoice will be even more.

Dealer cost is not the same as dealers invoice and/or manufacturers invoice. Forget about dealer cost, it's not relevant!!!

I bought my '07 XLE I4 (VSC/TC, mats, leather, heated seats) for $24,903 ($300 over dealer invoice) 5 months ago.
  • ncognito13ncognito13 Member Posts: 66
Thanks for the response...Albany,NY. I am going to offer based on Consumers Reports Wholesale Price which is $22,120 less the 580 dest. The dealer offered $23,485+580=24065. I had seen Fitzmall and wish they were closer..seems pretty legit as opposed to the clowns around here. I am going to try to buy the car for $22,617+580=$23,197. If I can't get my price I can always go up. I am $868 away from the dealer. There is a $489 holdback on the car and the dealer invoice, according to consumers is $22,609.00

Do you like the car??....Best of luck with it....
  • njeraldnjerald Member Posts: 689
Love mine. No rattles, hesitation or fit problems.

It's quiet, competent with good fuel economy.

Good luck! Be ready to go up if you want the car. They are at about $800 above their invoice.

All those consumers report figures are irrelevant on a new popular model.

If it was me, I wouldn't pay more than $23,600 total.
  • hu5041534hu5041534 Member Posts: 6
yea i was pretty happy with the price. your price seems pretty good as well. im getting the blue ribbon color. what about yourself? and when are you getting it?
  • ilovecars1ilovecars1 Member Posts: 119
my price is $800 more than yours :(

I am getting the metallic grey. I am still not sure if I will get it finally. The comments in the "woes" section bothers me a lot. This will be my first new car. I am quite upset already.
  • hu5041534hu5041534 Member Posts: 6
Well you have to consider the difference in taxes, plus i might not even have mats from what i find out now  and im going to be adding a spoiler. so at the end you still have a pretty good deal. but the comments in the woes section bother me too, but i guess i really didnt experience the woes on the same level as the others. its also hard for me to take others word for things i rather test drive it and decide for myself
  • ilovecars1ilovecars1 Member Posts: 119
yeah..thats kinda right that all the cars will be different..but this is my first car...and as a "just graduated student" ...if anything is wrong..it is going to come to me heavily as compared to some other people who drove few new cars already..

I spoke to my dealer..he said if I don't want it, I can still cancel the deal..so I am debating...if I cancel this camry..there are no other cars in the market that I like...honda is boring and nissan do not give you much in the base price.. so I am thinking..

Did you see what Damon34 and kiawah wrote about their cars? If they are right, I will be completely screwed up.
  • mbolivermboliver Member Posts: 55
Does anyone know if Toyota dealers will go ahead and process the whole deal, trade in, etc, and order the Camry and provide you with a program car while they build yours? I have heard of other dealers doing that but didn't know if Toyota does.

Does anyone know the Camry market well? I am wanting to know if it gets more fluid in December like most markets do. Reason being I am ordering one and it is suppose to be here about that time frame. They said they would work with me on the price if the market was more fluid then but I am wondering if I should just go ahead and do the deal. Seems like prices are going up instead of down.
  • ncognito13ncognito13 Member Posts: 66
I have been trying to buy a Camry XLE. I have done all my homework as to price, etc. Subsribe to Consumers Reports for 3 months to get all the price info I need. I have made offers to a few dealers, giving them profit and I have had the car buying nonsense attempted to be pulled. Glad that I don't buy cars often because the process is a disgrace. Bottom line..the Camry is a "hot" car and the dealers feel no pressure to sell unless they get their price. If you feel comfortable with the deal...did you research cost? If you feel comfortable buy...if not walk away. These cars are too pricey to have a bad taste when you purchase..don't fall in love with any car because if you do you will be doomed to be abused by some dealers.

I have made a final offer on the XLE and if I don't get my price I don't buy..I have upped my price but it is time to dig in. They would make, according to my figures about 900 profit on the sale...if they don't want it thats fine...eventually I will buy the car for my price and if I don't who cares. If you feel you are paying too much and that bothers you then do not buy the car IMHO.

You cannot find a car on a lot that meets your needs??? Try Fitzgerald Auto Malls....pretty concise auto site with seemingly no games. If I lived closer to them I would be a customer. All cars should be sold as they do..instead of all the lies and bs that goes on.
  • mbolivermboliver Member Posts: 55
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have done a lot of homework and the price is decent although I think they could come down more. Right now I have them about half way between invoice and MSRP on the car. Is the consumer reports pricing different than what you find on kbb.com? I didn't want to pay the money for the report if it was going to tell me the same thing. No, I can't find a manual shift with leather seats, sunroof and aluminum wheels for the price I can order it for in an LE. I can't afford the XLE model either. Thought about the SE but it would cost me another 1300 and they don't have a manual around here. Fitzmall is pretty far for me. I am in TX. But I did call them for a quote to order and they gave me the same price my dealer here did.
  • ncognito13ncognito13 Member Posts: 66
consumers shows the invoice price to be about 350 less...for the XLE, 4 cyl, cloth, stability control, and floor mats....it also shows the hold back on the car. I am still waiting to hear if my offer was accepted..the sales rep had quoted me their final offer at $24,065 which includes the dest charge....my final offer is $23,412 incl the dest. If I can't get it for that price I am done for now....by my calculations they are making approx. 1292....which IMHO is fair enough. Now, I will wait until DEC to buy a car when their business slows down...and try again. Unless of course I see a better advertised deal which I will as the economy slows down and cars slow down with it. I believe it will become a buyers market very soon, and if the Camry stays hot I will just have to find another car to buy..the new Altima is out in Nov..always deals to be had..right place and right time is all...
  • njeraldnjerald Member Posts: 689
Fitzmall is around $500 over dealers invoice. Not the best price but not too bad for the average consumer.

I can beat that locally but if i couldn't, I have traveled 1,000 miles to get the vehicle and price I wanted.

A number of posters here lately are just unrealistic.
  • ncognito13ncognito13 Member Posts: 66
You seem to be very knowledgeable about the car market. I am always willing to learn. That being said..could you tell me what is the dealers invoice for the 2007Camry XLE, 4cyl, cloth, stab control and mats.....I want to see how that fits with what I have read and been told by the dealers....thanks in advance for your help....
  • njeraldnjerald Member Posts: 689
    Remember post #3812???????????????????????

You didn't say mats were included the first time.

    $23,420
  • ncognito13ncognito13 Member Posts: 66
the 23,420 includes the -580 dest..-489 holdback=22,351...I offered 22,832+580=23,412....the dealer offered $24,065-580=23,485...Based on my figuring from consumers the car really cost the dealer 22,120-580=21,540. The 22,120 figure is after deducting the 489 holdback.

When you said yesterday that you would not pay more than 23,600 that included the dest chg correct???.....So do you think that my offer to them was a fair one?? Or is my premise of the real cost to the dealer too low??.....

Had a very bad experience once and I am being very very cautious. I would like the car but I DO NOT have to buy it now....what say you...TY...
  • njeraldnjerald Member Posts: 689
When you said yesterday that you would not pay more than 23,600 that included the dest chg correct???

Yes, why talk about the total price of the car w/o the destination charge. It's ridiculous. And that was w/o mats, if you remember.

.....So do you think that my offer to them was a fair one??

Fair for you! Let the dealer worry about his cost.

You might as well wait until next year although if you go through the same stuff on a new Altima you will get the same result.
  • ncognito13ncognito13 Member Posts: 66
Just trying to get a feel for whose numbers to believe, consumers, edmunds, msn, kelley,or yours. they vary slightly and do make a difference as to the price to offer. One dealer told me his invoice for the car was $23,539...is telling the truth??...is he not??....if i am thinking the cars actual cost is 22,120 and basing my offers on that I might never buy a car. I just need accurate figures from which to start with is all. The dealer that offered the car for $24,065 said that that was rock bottom for her. I think she is making too much on the deal and will not buy from her. Maybe you buy cars more often and are more familiar with the market and what will fly and what will not...that is the feel that I am trying to get from you.
