Well according to Ernie this morning- I have a build date of "the first week of March". Then I am told the ship date is this Wednesday! Lets just hope the ship date is correct and the build date is not! Ernie says to call back on Wednesday and we'll see which date get corrected in the computer. I sure hope it ships on Wednesday! I am tired of waiting for this thing! Good luck to you all that have been waiting!

amend1 - pushbar: just remember that these things are only cosmetic - I've seen 'minor accidents do some 'big' damage with the pushbars (accurate term) getting shoved back into the hood!

tpmiller1 - oops... the picture of the gullwing tonneau in the brochure shows the bedliner (or a mat) under the tonneau, BUT doesn't show the 'lip' of the protector going over the tailgate cap. May have to trimmed or use the tailgate mat product in conjunction with the under rail liner (expensive) to pull this off. It may be just as well to use the spray-in liner, unless you're like me and need to haul washers / dryers and refrigerators around more that occasionally.

Didn't look yet-ground too wet from snow, etc and I'm not too concerned as I'll be towing only med sized boat and maybe some snowmobiles. Will let you know when I do check it.

    Not all pushbars are cosmetic.

I agree that many are 'looks enhancing' without being hugely practical, but many are designed for working. A lot depends on how force is applied to the push bars - if you are pushing gradually or pulling gradually (with a winch say), there is no problem - a sudden impact will cause more damage. Same principle as putting a nail in wood - apply pressure to it and nothing happens - hit it hard and sharp and it goes in.

Thanks themacguy and amend1 for the reassurance on the forest green quad. I will give some serious thought to accessories. Questions on the accessories: are Dodge prices very high? How is the quality of the Mopar accessories that they are promoting? Wondering if I should shop around, or stick with manufacturer's stuff for best color and fit. Anybody got an opinion?

PS-- Next dilemma is turning in my 1997 4x4 Tacoma. Friends are telling me to try to sell it, rather than just turn it in at the end of my lease when my Dakota comes in. Supposedly Tacomas resell really well and I could probably make a few bucks on it. Anyone with any experience?

Anyone know if there are any websites which have vehicle electrical schematics for download??? The dealer manuals are too damn expensive and I don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling about the aftermarket books. (Have purchased many over the years and thought they were too general and vague. My problem needs a manual specific to the model.)

By the way, I have a 94 SLT ext.cab 4x4 with 83k and I've had <average luck with it. Defroster problem since day 1, replaced u-joint (48k), radiator (55k), and front axle seals 4 times. (yes, 4!!) The front axles were also replaced the last time too. Fortunately, the first 4 times were covered under the 7/70k warranty, but they're leaking again and it looks like it's all me this time!$!$!$!$

I now have an electrical problem with the steering column wiring. Several weeks ago, I set the tilt wheel at the lowest position and the heater fan and power windows quit working and the air bag warning light came on the moment I locked it in place. I've practically torn the dash apart trying to trace wiring, but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

penda says that they have had no complaints about
the tailgate cover rubbing the paint off on the
outside edge of the liner, i am still bickering
with them, the warranty states that they do not
cover paint scuffing and scratching in the bed,
hahahaha this is outside the bed, so they are
looking into the technicalities. i know a few
people that have had theirs scratched, anyone else?

It is possible that while your vehicle is past the extended warranty, the parts and workmanship carry their own warranty. My wife has a vehicle that has 85K on the odometer, but there has been five failures on work that was performed. They warranty their work and it has cost her nothing. I worked for a manufacturer, and they warrantied many items past the regular period, but had failed again. I don't know if that would work, but it certainly is worth pursuing. I too had a 4X4 '95 Dakota, and experienced the leaking axle seals.

party time, i can drive and hear that sweet little
4.7 whisper down the road and roar when i ask it,
and its all thanks to (houtslaw), that tsb fixed my
ticking and my truck is so quiet i cant believe
its the same truck, the dealer was so confused that
this would actually work, but whammo, ticky gone,
    ticky gone gone.

the tsb is for trucks with the 4.7 made before nov
23rd 1999, so go get this done now, it will change
your whole outlook on your truck.

Well I have been reading these topics now for a couple of months and now I finally logged on. I have really enjoyed all of the information that I have read from these pages. Keep it up.

I have a question for FINALLY! You said that you ordered your quad cab on 12/28 and just got word that it has been built and will be shipped soon. Did you order 4X4 or 4X2?

I ordered a 4X4 SLT QC with just about everything except 4 wheel ABS on 1/7/00 and I am getting anxious to hear that the restrictions have been lifted. Now that bookkitty has learned that his truck has been built, he doesn't talk about the restrictions like he used to.
  • themacguythemacguy Member Posts: 417
Yeah, Chrysler has him thinking that he's actually going to get his truck.

    :'-))
  • jcody1jcody1 Member Posts: 58
Yes- I ordered my Quad 4X4 4.7 auto, loaded with everything except FT4x4, and 4wheel ABS on 12/28/99. The restrictions that got me were the tire and handling group and the limited slip rear. I think Bookitty was stuck on the same options. I hear it was built yesterday and should be on a train very soon. I am going to call again on Monday to verify. I am tired of waiting for this damn thing!
    later, Jason

go to #1496 post #26 and read about Ernie's evil twin at Daimler Chrysler which I understand is pronounced "Daimler".

does anyone remember someone saying that the valve covers will wear trough if the wiring looms are touching them because they are a lighter softer metal?

    Would like to hear,

Tim, if that's about the representative that deleted the order, I have addressed that subject. I will be near your stamping grounds on Saturday as I must attend my father-in-law's burial service in Sunbury. A really nice guy.

Still no build date on mine - ordered a 4x4 11/23. No restrictions and the dealer says he has room on his allocation. I don't understand it. I never understood the 'restrictions' on the tire and handling group anyway - Durango's kept piling up on the dealer's lot down the street with the same combination, and the dealer said he had no trouble getting limited slips on Durango's either. Hmmm....must be a conspiracy...
  • bobcat36bobcat36 Member Posts: 5
Thanks for the responses to my question. My dealer had also given me a tentative build date of the first week of March but I was hoping it may be a little sooner. He also said that they receive a print out of all of the orders every morning and would call me when something changed so I guess that I will just have to be patient.

I did order the lsd and tire and handling group with the 4.7l engine. I also am adding an under the rail bed-liner and the six-disc CD player. I am also thinking about some sort of cover for the bed and the chrome tube running boards. I was hoping for an earlier build date because the pre-paid lease on my Explorer runs out on March 7 so I will probably have to extend it for a month or two which will cost me some extra $$ so I will probably try to get some sort of extra deal on my QC. I did not get the full time all wheel drive either. I have it on my Explorer now and it is nice but after driving a 2wd Dakota with the 4.7l engine, and having a little fun, I decided that it would be nice to actually be able to spin the wheels again :>

The first Ford Super Crew F-150's just started arriving around here and I drove one last Saturday just in case I couldn't wait on my QC. It was nice but was much bigger and definitely was not as much fun to drive even though it had more horsepower. I think that Ford has more comfortable seats but I think will stick to my QC.

    Enough for now.

P.S. Quick question. Do they have a Dakota plant in Mexico?
  • themacguythemacguy Member Posts: 417
Hey, let us know how the install goes on the changer, will ya? I want one too!

I also drove --guided?-- the SuperCrew a week or so back (actually two of them; Black, White) and had already ridden in one at the Firestone test track in Ft. Stockton, TX in Dec. My impressions were the same as your's - I really thought the seats were great, and gave a post to the SuperCrew Topic about the Dak. Quad / SuperCrew comparison. Friendly bunch over there... But several of them think their seats are 'not supportive.' Think they might swap with us?

Does anyone know if there is a kit for automatic headlights on the Dakota/Durango?
  • spike50spike50 Member Posts: 481
If you're talking about day-time running lights (dtrl), I'm interested in doing that too.

Any ideas out there? Must have been done before with a module / light switch in Canada where I ran into dtrl's in the early 90's on rentals.
  • catnip2377catnip2377 Member Posts: 42
No, I live in Canada and our vehicle come equipped with it.

I was looking for the same idea as the s-10 and Cherokee that they come on automatically when it gets dark. I don't know why they don't have this feature in the Durango/Dakota.

Ill see if i can find out about the daytime lights though.

(henne) You are perhaps recalling my post in another forum.
There is a specific warning about the magnesium valve covers in the service manual.
  • hennehenne Member Posts: 407
could you tell me if its a dodge service manual and if it is, what page? my 5 star dealer knows nothing about it, and every wire under my hood is rubbing (well it looks like it ok, geeeeezzz)

    thanks in advance,

    Robert

Ordered my loaded quad on 11-23. Was shipped on 1-28, and arrived at the dealer on 2-15. Like all of us that cant wait, my wait was over.
I arrived at the dealer and there she was. Patriot blue. Wadda machine!! Until I looked at the fender...V6 thats right V6....
It was time to raise hell, and hell broke loose.

So,, any one looking for a loaded quad cab minus the v8, Its got my name on it??
  • hennehenne Member Posts: 407
that has got to be about the saddest thing i have read in weeks, if that would have happened to me, i would have dropped to my knees, i have been waiting on the quad since i first heard about it in late 98, i even borrowed my dads blazer for about 8 months so i wouldnt have to buy another truck until this beauty came out.

out thoughts are with you in this time of need,

fredeee, please tell me it ain't so that you were able to order a patriot blue four door dakota, i was told it didn't come in that color in a 4 door quad so i had to order a red one, still waiting for mine ordered on 1-28-00, passed edit waiting for schedule is what i was told, by the way sorry about your miss fortunes, i would be pissed, bigal
  • jcody1jcody1 Member Posts: 58
The SLT Quad that I ordered (and should have this week hopefully) is SUPPOSED to be patriot blue and light driftwood. And a V-8. We'll see. The last Dakota I ordered (98 Club Cab) came in without the limited slip and the large mirrors that I ordered. Had to live it, or order another truck.
  • cyoungstromcyoungstrom Member Posts: 5
Placed an order for a 4.7L 4x4 QC on 1/17. When restrictions were lifted I was informed on 2/8 that it had a tentative build date of 1st week of March. A couple days later my dealer called me and said he didn't know what happened, but he received notice of a ship date of FEBRUARY 17! I called the dealer 2/19, was told the truck is built, but did not ship yet, but he is hoping it will next week. Thought I would pass this along so those with the 1st week in March build date will know it may actually be sooner. I am keeping my fingers crossed!
  • balserbalser Member Posts: 90
cyoungstrom - You ordered almost two months after me and already have a build date? Those of you with dates - did you order manual or automatic? Mine's a 4.7 w/auto - but I'm told there's no restrictions. Tell me yours is a 5 speed so I have some - albeit unconfirmed - rationale for my delay.

Every time I think about cancelling, I drive past the dealer, look at the ones on the lot, and convince myself to wait another week. Eric (my salesman), I know you read this forum - I'm getting real impatient.

I live in the Hbg PA area. Did you shop around for your price. I have not been to the E'town dealership yet. It seems the Hbg area dealers do not want to discount much.
  • snowedinsnowedin Member Posts: 58
I ordered the 4.7 L 5 speed. Perhaps that is why I have a build date.
  • tlynn1tlynn1 Member Posts: 24
Those of you who have the 2k 4.7 automatic, please read post 108 in "Dakota tranny problems" and post your response there. Thanks.
  • bobcat36bobcat36 Member Posts: 5
You might have been given some bad information. You could have gotten Patriot Blue on an SLT but not a Sport model. The Patriot Blue color is limited to the SLT model so if you ordered a Sport he was right but if you ordered an SLT, he was wrong. The truck that I ordered on 1/7/00, that is supposedly being built right now, is Patriot Blue and is a 4.7l automatic. I don't know why those of you who ordered before me haven't gotten yours already. I was in Wichita Ks on Saturday and the dealer there had a Patriot Blue SLT that was almost identical to the one I ordered and I might have bought it if I was still waiting on a build date. Someone that works with my wife ordered one in November also. I will try to check with him and see how is order is doing.

i have been reading this and many other forums. i have seen people looking at the k&n airfilter, from what i understand doesnt it up your horsepower up maybe 5 hp? if thats true will you even notice it, i cant notice the hp difference with my a/c on or off, and it takes approximatly 5hp to run a auto a/c.

    any ideas will be appreciated,

    robert
  • themacguythemacguy Member Posts: 417
Robert, the reason I went to the K&N is not really for any HP gain (maybe 1-2%). My main concern is engine longevity. I've used K&N's for 15 years or so, and they give me the same piece of mind as running synthetic oils. They simply clean better and last longer. If they didn't they wouldn't sell at the prices they bring - same as wives. :-P

You must have ordered a quad cab sport. Patriot blue, and some other colors are SLT only.
By the way I had to reorder my quad. They said, wich i dont believe, that they called DC and explained there mistake and requested a rush order,3 to 5 weeks. I dont know about that one. My first order took 3 months.

Thanks for the location and price on a kit for the day time running lights. I have not been as diligent. I have not tracked down anything yet on automatic lights. Would need to be activated by the lack off daylight but immune to lights from oncoming traffic. I beat there are not many alternatives to the OEM systems. Think of it: your lights accidentally turning off in the middle of the night on a turn at 65 mph on a device you or I wired up ourselves under the shade tree. Smells like a law suit.
