Isn't it great...I get the same thing with everyone checkin' out the truck when driving round town.
I have a question for you....I wanted the split window so so badly but it just didn't come with my truck. You say you ordered the split window w/ rear defrost....is that possible to have...let me know....My 4X2 Green Sport Quad has everything but the split window and the cool rear end (3.55) that Ferous has. Wink, Wink! Good luck guys....think I'm going down to South beach now....isn't great that Dodge made the rear windows go all the way down?

You can't get the heated rear window with the spit window.
  • tpmiller1tpmiller1 Member Posts: 165
That spit window set up so you'll always be with the wind????
    LOL

On my truck I ordered package code GFA I think?
It was the 6x9 power mirrors with defrost and the defrost rear window. You cannot get the slider window with defrost. Unfortunately mine was mis ordered and GFA was not on the order sheet that was put in the computer. when the truck came in it had the split rear window, and standard manual mirrors. I really didn't need the defrost option but, it was fairly cheap and I thought it would be nice, oh well.I did balk at not having the larger mirrors as I will be towing a 6x10 enclosed motorcycle trailer. they are ordering the 6x9 mirrors and I got a lower price on the truck and did not pay the $115 for the rear window since I didn't really want it and it would cost them that much put in a standard one.
Love the truck so far lots of power, the 4.7 is the way to go! My dad has an R/T club cab and this truck feels just as fast!

I have only one real complaint but I want to know if the others do this. Try driving down the road at 35-50mph and open one of the back windows, only one and let me know what happens. Mine gets this terrible "thudding noise" that you can certainly feel. I think it may be the rear seat shuddering or something.

With farm bureau membership, got a quote from Elizabethtown Dodge under dealer invoice and slightly lower quote from B&L dodge in Shamokin, (where I ordered). Forget any other dealers in central PA, unless they've changed their tune in last several weeks. That's on a Sport Quad 4x4 with 4.7L, ABS, auto etc. MSRP 28k+ my price 25.5.
  • themacguythemacguy Member Posts: 417
Man, you've sure had a Ford thing. Why didn't you wait for the SuperCrew? I've ridden in one and it sure is nice, but BIG $$$. Very pretty, too.

I've had two Corvette hatchbacks and currently four Porsche hatches (928s / 944s) with the same problem. It's the air pressure differential that causes this 'booming.' Plays heck with your ears after a bit. To fix it in the Porsches with sunfoofs and/or removable panels (couldn't resolve it in the Vettes very well) I added a rooftop deflector with two little movable 'airfoils' (944 only) for the sunroof air to break up the airflow. Fixed everything in the 944's except for a gas smell when either of the side windows is down. Weird.

Anyway, I put the Dodge factory vent thingies on the leading edge of the Quad's front windows (glass channel), and I don't have the problem anymore. They're not as gawdy as the ones from the aftermarket channels. Hope this helps.

I still contend that the NV242 xfer case has an
open differential in the "Full-Time" position.
However, I do agree that traction on MARGINAL
surfaces IS better with the full-time xfer case
than with 2WD alone. I presently have a Jeep
with the Selec-Trac xfer case that has the open
diff in the full-time position. It DOES help
in MARGINAL situations. True, if I am in full-time
and the right rear wheel (for example) loses
traction, it begins to spin and power is
transferred to the slipping axle. HOWEVER, it does
not seem to me to be an instantaneous xfer. It
seems to me that even though the right rear starts
to spin, the left front maintains traction long
enough to pull me out before the right rear loses
traction completely and gets all the power
transferred to it. Of course, this is in MARGINAL
situations, where traction is low, but not
nonexistent. For really bad situations, lock the
differential. It took me awhile to figure this
out, but now that I understand how my vehicle
behaves in full-time, I find it to be a very useful position, as it can be used when road
surfaces alternate from wet to dry to wet with no
warning. Just remember the limitations of it.

Apologies for the delay in replying - didn't get on here over the weekend. Anyway in response to your 52% question - yes.
  • antonyantony Member Posts: 46
What would happen in the case of an open-diff xfer
case and a rear axle LSD on the same vehicle?
If the front wheels started to slip, wouldn't the
power go forward to the front (slipping axle) and
ignore the LSD in the rear axle?
  • catnip2377catnip2377 Member Posts: 42
If the torque is split 52/48 (rear/front respectively) wouldn't there always be the 52% in the rear even if it slips? This is the most confusing topic in here. Every post contradicts the previous one.

If you recall back to the ice example given by the technician in one of these posts, it shouldn't. You should still have that torque at the rear wheels.

    Hey gang-
I ordered my quad 4X4 on 12/28 and I am interested in a status of my order. I am worried since I hear you all talking about restrictions! I talked with my dealer and they are clueless as usual. Does anyone have a phone number to check the status of an order? I have my VON.

    thanks!
    Jason
  • tpmiller1tpmiller1 Member Posts: 165
Mark Heber, of Dodge truck marketing plans, indicates switchover to '01's commences end of June, early July, and will be in dealerships by August.
That would be pending no restrictions...
  • jcody1jcody1 Member Posts: 58
    hey Bookity-

I called and I got nowhere fast. The guy I ended up with was of no help. He did look up my VON, and he confirmed that it was in the system, but he knew nothing. In fact he was not even aware of any restrictions. He said "that sounds like it could be true" Do you have a direct person that has been helpful for you, and actually knows something? Which automated menu choices did you pick when calling that number? It is amazing to me that anything ever gets acomplished at some places of business. If I knew for sure that it was going to be another 3 months before I get my truck- I have half a mind to go buy a Durango. They are like butt holes- everyone's got them!

    thanks!

Jason, I speak with Ernie @ extension 7125. When you call, listen to the options. I believe one presses 2 and then wait for the prompt to press 1 if you know the party's extension. After that the prompt asks you to enter the extension. If Ernie is not at his phone, leave a message and he will return the call.

    Bookitty

P.S. As I said, all Quad 4X4's were on restriction at this point in time.

    Jason,

Someone posted a web page that had instructions for getting an order status. I ordered a 4x4 dakota cc with the 4.7 and 4sp auto on 12/18. They told me it was also on restriction. I guess it is updated weekly so I will probably call every week.
Wish I had it already! Here is the link:

Have contacted several dealers in central Illinois, and none of them want to even come close to INVOICE to order a new truck. I would like a 4x2 Quad cab with auto, anti-slip, and most of the creature comforts inside. Has anyone had any luck around here. I'm not attached to any one dealer.
  • themacguythemacguy Member Posts: 417
I was asked in a private e:mail what has kept me from ordering the factory side tubes (outside of terrible avail. & expense). Here are a couple of alternatives that I'm looking at:

    #1 [www.starboards.com] then to chrysler/jeep, finally quad 2000 - Avail. NOW for $500

#2 [www.hotchkis.net] then to the red SEMA quad graphic, you might fill out questionnaire while you're there. Avail. as soon as we beg for em.

    :-)~

Anyone thinking about buying Mopar accessories should remember one thing - Mopar doesn't make any. They are all made by outside companies and then sold to Mopar. If anyone want's an idea of how much difference this makes compare the cost of a Penda bed liner with a Mopar one. With the exception of the word Custom instead of Mopar on the front of the liner there is absolutely no difference between then (Penda make both). The difference in cost is all Mopar profit.

If you all want a status of your order- Ernie is the man. (scroll up to Bookitty's earlier response) Although he did tell me that my order is restricted as well, he was very willing to help and he does seem to know what he is talking about. Thanks Bookitty for the suggestion. In the mean time we wait until next Monday!

Take a couple of days off and it takes my whole lunch hour to catch up. :)
I specificly asked my dealer about "Heated" 6X9 Mirrors and he told me that ONLY the 5X7 Power Mirrors are heated. Was I told wrong or what? Doesn't make a difference to me because I already ordered mine with the 6X9 Mirrors.
  • themacguythemacguy Member Posts: 417
ferous, mine are 5X7's - they're not heated. I live in west TX so defrosting wasn't on my list. The main advantage to the 5X7's (for me) was the look and low profile. The main advantages for the 6X9's are probably towing, taller drivers, heat in colder climes and, interestingly, their foldability - particularly when some guy walks by with a bag of groceries too close to your truck! I think they will be quite useful at the car wash (to dump water trapped behind the glass), as well.
  • tpmiller1tpmiller1 Member Posts: 165
Am looking at the Dakota brochure. It clearly states under mirror options:
"-dual power 6x9" black, folding heated on Quad Cab)"
  • tpmiller1tpmiller1 Member Posts: 165
they are only heated when folding, if you take the brochure quite literally...

I ordered a Quad Cab from Shelby's in Champaign for $250 over invoice. I could have gotten the same deal at Shields in Rantoul. Didn't mention my Farm Bureau discount until everything was final. You might also try Bill Abbott in Monticello.
  • wetwilliewetwillie Member Posts: 129
These are available only as part of the rear window defroster option package GFA. Of course, this pkg.(~$200 invoice with SLT plus) isn't available with sliding rear window (~$100 invoice).
  • ddefonceddefonce Member Posts: 6
Like others here, I've been in contact with Ernie at DC support. Because of posts to Edmunds.com he receives many calls about Dakota orders every Monday. Therefore he has become knowledgeable about the various restrictions. All you need is your VON from the dealer or the VIN if the truck has started production. I ordered a Club 4x4 late in December and my truck is still on restriction because of limited-slip and the t&h group. Waiting is tough!
  • gbilhimergbilhimer Member Posts: 53
OK, I filled up today for the first time tonight and thought you might be interested in mileage.
I averaged 15.7 mpg, not bad for a brand new truck! Driving was a mix of city and highway with a majority in town driving. I have a 4x2 4.7 auto with the 3.55 and limited slip. I would expect the mileage to get better after a couple thousand miles. I am impressed with the AM/FM/CD/CASS/EQ.
it sounds great and the audio controls on the wheel are worth the $75. The 4.7 engine is smooth as glass! My dad has an R/T ext. cab, he drove it and wishes he would have waited for a Quad Cab.
I believe the 4.7 would give an R/T a good race, we haven't tried that yet!

I just sold a 98 club cab dakota 4X4 5.2L with 3.92 rear (now awaiting my QC !!!) I used to get 15 MPG all the time. Usually my driving was a pretty average mix of city/highway. Occasionally I towed with that truck and the mileage would drop significantly, but that thing would pull a house off it's foundation (for a mid size truck). I ordered the 4.7 with a 3.55 rear this time, so I am anxious to see an improvement in the mileage. I drive about 25K miles a year, so those savings add up quick!
  • haddonhaddon Member Posts: 26
I ordered my QC 11/22 (4x4 sport 4.7 auto,355lsd,handling pkg,tow pkg ect.) I was told by cust. serv. that handling pkg was on rest. and would not get my truck until April at the earliest. WOW what a wait hope it is worth it. Dodge should throw in the extended warranty for those with such a long wait for their truck, maybe we should all mail Dodge to go the extra mile for waiting so long, Fords will be out soon. Anyone else have any new info. on their truck. I will keep calling cust.serv. for any new news.
  • tpmiller1tpmiller1 Member Posts: 165
I ordered very similar to you 1/17. Was told my price "locked in" for 150 days. Looks like may need every hour of it. I think the individual dealers have a lot of "play" in the extended warranty price structure, certainly worth a try to trade extended wait for significant discount. I didn't even discuss with dealer when ordered, they said would discuss prices when vehicle shows up. Think I read some time ago they got a 50% discount on extended warranty-anybody know?
  • jcody1jcody1 Member Posts: 58
    that is unbelievable!!
  • ferousferous Member Posts: 226
I've compared the Ford Explorer Sport Track to the Dakota QC and I ordered the Dakota. The Sport Track comes std with most options (PW, PL, Cruise, A/C, etc). Only 1 motor (4.0), only 1 tranny (auto), that pretty much stopped the comparison. All of my trucks have been sticks, and I wanted the 5 spd. The price between the two is pretty close, but the Dakota will include some small extras that the Sport Track doesn't have. The Sport Track is 10" shorter, most of that is out of the bed. Gas mileage is lower on the Sport Track compared to a Dakota with a 3.55 rear end. All included, the Dakota QC is a better deal. I've always been a Ford man, but I ordered my QC last week.
  • ferousferous Member Posts: 226
I forgot another big point. The Sport Track has less room in the cab. The Sport Track is only a 5 passenger truck, where my Dakota can haul my family of 4, plus each kid can bring a friend along. Notice I didn't say 6 adults.
  • balserbalser Member Posts: 90
I ordered a similar QC one day later (11/23) and I'm on restriction too. The extended warranty idea is a good one - maybe if we just all start calling DC customer service requesting some compensation we may get somewhere. I brought up the subject by asking them for compensatory service vouchers or something similar a couple of weeks ago and was told nothing is being done 'at this time'.
  • hennehenne Member Posts: 407
this is kinda funny (not!) i went to rent a uhaul for my 2000 dakota quad with the full towing package (6100lbs and a class 4 reciever hitch), surprise surprise, uhaul was checking my reciever to make sure my truck could haul the load and the reciver is rated for 3500lbs, uhaul said it is a class 2 reciever (oops!), the dealer and dc customer svc both said i should have a class 4 on the truck. any one else with the tow package option ahc checked there hitch rating? mine is a sticker on the 87 pin connector box, the sticker is between the box and the drawbar. somebody look and let me know please.

    thanks,

    robert
  • bpeeblesbpeebles Member Posts: 4,085
(henne) Are you saying the FACTORY installed hitch on a 2000 Dakota is actually MARKED for
less than the advertised towing capacity?
The difference between CALSS2 and CLASS4 hitches is not trivial.

    That is a significant problem.
If you are certian that your window sticker actually calls out that you should have a class4 hitch, Please consider posting this fact in some of the other Dakota forums. I am sure EVERYONE with a tow package on ANY Dakota will be interested in this fact.
  • hennehenne Member Posts: 407
yes, the option code i ordered and dc verified that i ordered code ahc, that is a class 4 hitch, the hitch i have on mine says 3500lb 300lb tounge weight, thats a far cry form a class 4.

waiting on dodge to make the next move, i told them i have already towed 5200lbs for over 180 mi on a very hilly highway, they said they needed to jump on this quick, they acted kinda scared.

ill keep you all up to date,

    robert
  • jcody1jcody1 Member Posts: 58
    Henne-

I may be wrong but I think the towing package gives you a class 3 hitch. Is the receiver on your truck 2" by 2". I think class 2 is smaller, something like 1" by 1" receiver.
  • haddonhaddon Member Posts: 26
I was refering to the f-150 crew cab. It is a very nice truck but I really don't want full size, plus I think they average about $3000 more than dakota QC. As of now I think I'll wait for QC.
  • fredeeefredeee Member Posts: 3
I ordered my Q.C. 10-23. still waiting. Called Chrysler and they said it was bilt already and was in transit to Ridgefield, meaning I should be getting mine soon.
  • tpmiller1tpmiller1 Member Posts: 165
AHC is supposed to be a class IV hitch, period. Everyone who has one check, everyone who orders one, check b4 you drive off the lot. This is inexcusable.
Henne I will be very interested in DC's explanation.

Yesterday (02/02/00) I visited my local Ford dealer, to check out the F-150 Supercab, and to glean information regarding the upcoming Sport Trak and F-150 Crew Cab. The reasoning behind the visit was to cover myself in light of the current restrictions affecting delivery of my ordered Quad Cab truck. The salesperson that I deal with at the Ford dealership is a friend, and the person from whom I obtained my present mount, a leased Expedition with a 5.4. I discovered that the Sport Trak is not to my liking, and the new Crew Cab is available only with automatic transmission. The reason that I am driving an Expedition, is because my company leased it for me, as they did not want regional managers driving up to distributors in a truck. It has to do with image and prestige, neither of which means doodly-squat as far as I am concerned. Prior to that I drove my '95 Dakota Club Cab SLT with V8 and five speed. It had an A.R.E. fiberglass lid, and I truly loved that vehicle. The Expedition was the first automatic transmission I had driven in many years, except of course for rental cars when traveling. I can't think of anything I like less, than driving through snow and ice with an automatic. Gilding that lily, is the electric over mechanical transfer case engagement. A problem waiting to happen, although I do admit that they have improved somewhat in time. After sitting in the F-150, and viewing the preliminary literature on the Sport Trak and F-150 Crew Cab, I decided to take my chances on waiting. I retired as of 12/31/99, and the Company told me to use the lease vehicle until the lease expires in early Spring of 2000. A very kind gesture. So here I sit, driving the "refinery's dream car". I feel that the 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab rules. A sentiment that is shared by many of you within this forum topic.

    Hey Everyone-
The local dealer to me (not the one I ordered my truck from) has a green/driftwood SLT 4X4 demonstrator that they are selling. Unfortunately it is the 5.9 liter engine, auto. Loaded with everything except tow package. If it had the 4.7 I would be writing them a check! If anyone else is intertested the dealer is Tate Dodge of Glen Burnie, Maryland (near Baltimore).

well i met with the daimler chrysler rep today, wow!!!, i complained yesterday and i met with him today. the hitch issue is very puzzling, the sales literature says, class 4 hitch, the parts info gives the numbers for a class 2 hitch. (dc doesnt list by class in the parts dept they list by weight, but if you know what weights are in what class you can figure it out). anyway, they are calling the company vally that supplies that hitch and find out all the techno stuff, they said its either a misprint in the literature or the wrong hitch on my truck and they will gladly pay for a class 4 for my truck, reese has one that goes on this truck. i was looking at it before i bought the truck, a class 4 was important to me, and i was surprised that the truck came with one, so i ordered it from the factory when i ordered my truck. the rep was very nice and understanding of my problem (even though after we threw around numbers for 45 min, we were all confused). the one on my truck is rated for 3500 weight bearing load and 6500 with weight distribution. the class 4 is 6000 weight bearing and 10,000 weight distribution.

i tow around 5000 lbs, and i dont want to spend almost 1000,00 for a weight distibution system to work with split tounge trailors and another one for single tounge trailors. thats the reason i wanted a class 4, a class 4 can carry 6000 without all that expensive other stuff and my truck only tows 6100 anyway, so i would never need that expensive stuff, i would have rather paid up to 300.00 installed for a class 4 aftermarket than pay dodge 275.00 for theirs and have to pay between 600 and 1,000 for the weight dist accessories also. with a class 4 i dont need weight distibution hitches to pull my boat, i want to hook up and go.

boy that ended up alot, and you probably dont care anyway LOL...

anyway i will keep all of you posted,

    robert
  • tpmiller1tpmiller1 Member Posts: 165
Sounds like you spent too much time with the DC rep cause now I'm puzzled too. I didn't realize you could order any other than a classIV from the factory, so is DC saying they may have gotten a wrong hitch from supplier or the truck builders took one from the wrong bin?
