jcraychee. If I was going to get an extended warranty I would do what you did, get the extended factory ford warranty. Like they say, go home with the one that brung ya, or something like that.

Well I ordered it 9/13 picked it up 11/2.
    00 F150 4x2 XLT Supercab Flairside
4.2v6, Auto, 3.55 LS axle, CD, Keyless entry, Rear slider. Very Cool ! !
Edmunds.com was right on the money (Thankx a thousand).Boy you have to watch that finance guy like a hawk, first he tried to add disability insurance($14 month) then the extended warranty($1400), and finally life insurance($540). His excuse was most customers choose those items. I thought I had accendently walked into a insurance store not a Ford store. Drove out @$23300 inculding tax, tag, title.

I have read several posts indicating that Y2K model Ford Trucks have been purchased at dealer invoice/cost or at a couple hundred dollars over dealer invoice. Yet, October 30, 1999, I was quoted a price of $1,735 over invoice for a 2000 F-150 Ford Lariat, 4WD, Supercab, Styleside, SB. The MSRP on the subject truck is $32,685. I was able to verify the MSRP and determine invoice cost using Edmunds.com. Can anyone give me dealer names near Lynchburg, VA that will sell the truck at $200 over invoice?
  • caddprocaddpro Member Posts: 20
laynerd, most of the at invoice or close were probably special oder, which means you have to wait 6-8 weeks. For a "on-the-lot" truck I would try http://www.fordvehicles.com/vehiclehome.asp?vid=9 and use the dealer locator by putting in you zip code. Most dealers will have a web page and a email address, EMAIL or FAX your truck's specs and what you are willing to pay, low-ball them and don't call, you will get a better price if they know you are hunting the best price. A couple of other things to consider, they just starting getting the 00's and they know they time is on their side, also it's the begining of the month. The really good deals come close to the end of the month on a rainy wednesday. Good luck.

laynerd, Richmond has a lot of Ford dealers and I know of several that were willing to sell me a 99 at invoice. I am waiting for the CC, so I passed on it. e-mail me at ALJones@firstsaga.com and I will give you more info.

Thanks to Post No. 163 & 164 for help on dealers that will accept close-to-invoice as a final price.

No doubt my favorite option on my 1999 Black Ford F150 Lariat is the signal mirrors. I ordered my 99 Lariat in July of 1998 so that I could be one of the first to get a 1999 in November of 1998!! It had just went through it's 15,000 mile warranty check up and it passed with flying colors. In fact this has been the best vehicle I've ever owned. It's exactly 1 year old. However Tuesday 11/2/99 I experienced sudden Unexplained Acceleration. As I accelerated to 35MPH from a fully stopped position, the truck immediately shifted into passing gear mode and within minutes was up to 75MPH. As I tried to brake to slow down my truck it kept racing and climbing faster to where any brake application would make the truck fishtail too dangerous within the area. as I tried to get the truck away from children and other traffic, I quickly pulled on the gas pedal thinking it was stuck...but it was normal placement. Next I quickly shifted into neutral to hopefully stop the racing but instead lost control, fishtailed again, hit a pole and rolled over. I left my truck without a scrach, but went into shock shortly after especially seeing my truck flipped over. The truck is equipped with the 5.4L engine, complete with 4x4 Off Road Package, which includes the 17-inch chrome wheel package which sets the truck a little higher than an Expedition. I ordered every factory available option for 1999. There are no after market modifications. Everyone continues to ask if I had the cruise control on at the time as maybe it went into the 'resume' mode. I never use cruise control so that rules out that theory. Next I've checked out the factory floor mat theory, the drivers side was in place, so the mat did not ride up the gas pedal. The truck had been warm for 1 hour, so the 'engine cold' theory is out. I use premium gasoline so the cheap gas theory is out. What could have caused this to happen....any ideas? I have looked up other "Ford" postings and found 2 different 'sites' where a 1998 Ford XL with 4.6L had this problem and a 1997 XLT 4x2 w/4.6L also reported this problem. So far I'm the first 5.4L with this problem. As it stands Ford denies a problem. My insurance company has not made a verdict as they are still getting testimonials from the many witnesses who came to my rescue and saw the truck out of control. My skid marks were 500 feet. I realize the truck could be a little top heavy so that explains the rollover, especially since I found out that the full "Flareside" pickup bed is fiberglass which explains the fish tailing. I'm broken hearted over the loss of this truck and am afraid to consider a 2000 model a replacment. Maybe an Expedition would have held the road better, but right now I'm more concerned with the sudden unexplained acceleration. I welcome anyone's comments, and am hoping to get some great ideas as to what I should do for a replacement.

Laynerd, call the dealer and ask who is the fleet manager or the manager working that day. Walk in with the Edmunds print out in hand and what you calculate their price to be. Avoid all salespeople and deal only with the flt mgr or mgr. Make them an offer and if they don't take it take your money to a dealer who will. They just got the 00's in stock so all of their holdback (3%) is money in the bank to them. The longer it sits on the lot the more holdback they lose. If they don't want to make $900 to $1200 off of a vehicle take your money to a dealer that does. I offered $300 over invoice (I was feeling generous) for my 2000 F-150 SC 4x4 and had no problems. It helps to have financing taken care of but FoMoCo has some pretty good rates out right now.... 5.9 % for 60 mo. Just say no to extended warranties! Happy truck shopping!
  • cajun17cajun17 Member Posts: 15
5.9% for 60 mo.? Do you know if they are offering this on 99 and 00 models, V8 and V6, etc? Or are they only offering this rate on a specific model? My 00 XLT, SC, 4.6L, 3.55LS should be arriving next week. Wish me luck.
  • caddprocaddpro Member Posts: 20
I got that rate on my 00 xlt supercab flairside.
Saw a tv ad this weekend they also offer 1000 cash back, don't know the whole story on that though, but too late for me.
  • goodijrgoodijr Member Posts: 3
    cajun17,
Check with your dealer. I got a Y2K F-150 XLT SC 4x4 on 10/24 in Lex, KY. and they offered me 5.9% for 60 mo. or 4.9 for 48 mo., 3.9% for 36 and 24 mo.. I think this is only on 2000 models but I could be wrong. According to Edmunds FoMoCo is offering 5.9 on 48 mo. on F-Series light duty pickups. That's why I say check with your dealer. They offered it to me but I financed through my credit union.
Bobh12, congrats on an extremely nice truck.
  • cajun17cajun17 Member Posts: 15
    Thanks for the info guys.
I will check with the dealer in my area (Baton Rouge) for financing rates. This is just in time...
I was told my truck (ordered on 9/18) was being held up at the factory. After a couple weeks, I was then told that they got the priority bumped up and hopefully would be coming in on 11/22. Then they told me it was coming in 9 days early, 11/13. Well, it just gets better...I called the dealer first thing this am and asked for the VIN#. He said let me go outside and find out. It came in late last night (11/8). No complaints here. I guess it's true what they say...
"Good things come to those who wait." Thanks again for the responses.

Thanks, so far I am loving it. I will get some miles on it this weekend, work and stay in Denver 4 days a week and live in the mountains, 110 miles one way over two 10,000 foot mountain passes so will really get to check it out. Have seen posts about vibrations at various speeds, and some exhaust vibrations so will watch/listen and report back on how it does.

    Hey all,

Got a question: Since the F150's now have true independant front suspensions, do they have constant velocity joints up front? The reason I ask is because i was cheking out my new '00 F150 and i notice what looks like CV boots up front. But, the book says not to run in 4x4 on dry road. I'm assuming the boots just cover up an enhanced U joint and not a normal CV joint.

Just kind of curious because if they now have CV joints, they would be like any other front wheel drive system...i would think.

Well, just a question I thought i'd throw out there for some fellow gearheads.
    Thanks!

My dealer explained that the combination I ordered (XLT, SC, FS, 4.6L, 5 sp, ORP) isn't being produced due to a "commodity shortage." The good news, she went on to say, was that my truck was given an "02" priority -- "010" being the highest. Does this mean my vehicle is the second highest in priority as far as production is concerned? I guess that extra zero in "010" is throwing me off. Are there any Ford insiders out there who can further explain this to me?
  • schwarmsschwarms Member Posts: 3
I am trying to decide which truck would be the better value. I've always had Toyotas, but I know the F150's are quite popular. From what I understand the Tundra has a nicer engine with the V8 option. Let me know what you think when you compare the two (fairly).

In response to Laynerd #163. I recently moved from Roanoke but while there I discovered a dealer in Salem who is willing to deal at invoice. Berglund Ford on Main Street in Salem. You can check them out on the net by looking at www2.ford.com and go under find a dealer near you. Good luck on the deal

Ford offers an "X - Plan" to employees of Tier One Suppliers. Does anyone have experience with it? What's it worth in terms of dollars or per centage off of an Edmund's Best Deal on a F-150? I presume Ford Motor Co. reimburses the dealer something, so he's not out anything above his best deal.
  • cajun17cajun17 Member Posts: 15
    Stan11,
I just picked up my 00 F150 XLT SC 4.6L auto last Thur. There was a hold on my truck also. From what I understand, my truck was not moved into production until it was moved up to a priority 10. It is an awesome truck and was well worth the wait!

    Schwarms,
I think both the Tundra and F150 are good trucks. You probably can't go wrong with either. While trying to decide upon my next vehicle, I narrowed my choice down to these two. I had never owned a ford or toyota but chose the F150 over the tundra for 2 reasons.
    1. Ford and the F150 has a proven track record when it comes to building a solid truck. The Tundra is too new. They flopped horribly on their last attempt at the full size truck market (T100). Toyota has even admitted that.
    2. The F150 is a full size truck. The Tundra is not quite there. Sit inside both and you'll know what I mean. Then look at the 2 side by side. And I'm not talking about height (the Tundra is raised off the ground as high as the Toyota engineers could to give the illusion of being as big as the big 3's trucks).

This was just my reasoning for making the choice I did. I think if you go with either of these 2 trucks you'll be happy with your purchase. Good luck.

Have been checking out buying 2000 XLT, Off Road, 5.4L beauty. I think I will be going in soon to a manager at a dealer to try and get 3% over invoice. The one thing that I would like to see if you all have had problem getting a fair value on your trade-in. I would think that if they would give you the truck at near invoice - they would then try and screw ya with the trade. I'm thinking I will have to go and see if they will first give me invoice pricing and then see if they will give me a fair price on the trade. Funny, trading in my '96 XLT Explorer in which one of the selling points of it was "...and it has an excellent trade in value!" and then they now say "...well, the market is saturated of SUV's so we will give you $50 for it."

Any hints on the trade-in AND getting the invoice price for the truck in the same transaction?

    Thanks,

Treat the trade-in and the purchase of the new vehicle as separate entitys.
determine bottom line on what they'll give you on the trade in. THEN, negotiate on the F-150

    I'm considering a 2WD leftover 99 XL SuperCab 4 door with 4.2L v6, 60/40 split bench, A/C,
Am/FM/Cassette/Clock Radio and 3.55 Limited Slip.
The Dealer says it's just a few hundred over
invoice but I can't find the numbers on Edmund's.
The price is $17,950 (with a $750 rebate). From
what I can estimate, the invoice should be around
17,300 and 17,700, can anyone confirm this?

I found 99 F-150 Ford Pricing info on the Edmunds site, right under where it says "2000 prices", it says "1999 Prices Available" click on it, and you should be there. Good Luck By the way tell the deqaler you want to see the actual invoice, and make sure it is for the same truck if you have any doubts, check the VIN. They should be selling 99s at Invoice or below, I took delivery on my special order y2k last week and I paid Invoice.
    Good Luck

here is another way to look at it... Figure out how much you are willing to pay for the new vehicle (we will use $20,000 for this example) and how much you want to get in trade for your current vehicle (we will use $6,000). Your difference is $14,000. That is the figure I use when I negotiate. I want a difference of $14,000 between the two.

I don't care if they try and sell me the new truck for $23,000, just as long as they give me $9,000 for the trade-in to keep the spread at $14,000. They can play whatever costing games they want, but that is what I am willing to "spend".

I try to avoid trade ins when I can (why buy retail and sell wholesale) but this takes some of the confusion away. Hope it helps.

The X-plan is for suppliers of Ford. It is a good deal (less than invoice price), but not as good as A-plan (employee prices). Ford reimburses the dealer for the holdback plus some commission-the dealers still make money even though they claim not to. When asking about special deals, ask several dealers and chances are you'll get several answers. I recently tried to find a 99 model, and was told about a $1000 rebate for V6, 5speed models by one dealer. Two other dealers denied any knowledge of the rebate (it was actually two $500 rebates-available to Ford employees). I ended up buying a 97 equipped exactly as I wanted; the dealer came down $2000 after finding out that I was a Ford employee. Don't believe everything that every dealer says.

I couldn't help but wonder the same. Looked seriously at the Tundra. Had a very bad experience with a 1998 Ranger, have had Japanese vehicles and could not help but reconsider them. But, my husband wanted the F-150 and although I guess he would have said OK in the end, I looked at the Tundra and just thought the F-150 was a lot more truck for the money. The Tundra is not usually discounted as much as the F-150 so price was also a consideration. Have you really checked out the cabin? It is not much wider than the Ranger we had and we didn't both fit in it all that well. With the extended cab, the bed is only 6 feet long - the F-150 is 6.5 feet. With the tailgate down, my F-150 will haul just about anything - the extra 6 inches does matter. Have you checked out the backseat? There is no comparison in comfort. I know the F-150 gets downgraded for the backseat - but checkout the huge loading area with the seat folded down. Very handy although mine is a 1999 and I understand this may have been changed for the 2000 models due to all those folks that MUST have headrests to use a truck like a car. As far as the engine, check out the numbers. My 5.4 with 4X4 off-road has been very good on gas mileage - 17 on the highway is normal and I have yet to see it drop below 13 no matter how it is driven - city, 4X4 or whatever. Maybe it is not as smooth as a DOHC Lexus set-up, but I suspect the SOHC is less likely to be picky in the long-run in a truck. It feels like a truck engine and pulls like one - the good news is gas mileage that the Tundra would be hard pressed to beat.

Could anyone help me on this deal... was at ford dealer last night when at the desk next to me was an "older" gentleman turning in his 00 F-150 xlt supercab w/2000 miles on it...needed the Expedition for more room. Talked to him and got the sticker to see options and msrp.( $32000) Dealership said they would sell it to me for $25,800. How do I acct for the miles on trying to figure if this is a good deal...price is below invoice but is it enough??? HELP???? Thxs.

i just purchased a new f150 sc 4x4 5.4L off rd. pkg. and 4spd. auto does anyone have any real figures on gas mileage?
  • ckitchensckitchens Member Posts: 67
Based on my recent pricing experience, you would be saving about $3,000. If the truck has the right equipment and more importantly, if you can verify that is has not been abused or in an accident - sounds like a good deal. I am always leary of these deals, but I guess they must be out there. The "older" gentlemen should be checked out and I would try to do some research on the vehicle.

I have a 1999 F-150 with 5.4 and off-road package. Have been very pleased with the gas mileage, but then I have spent the last 30 plus years driving trucks. I have seen over 18 mpg on the highway - average a little under 17 on the highway at high altitude and long grades. Otherwise, have yet to see the truck fall below the 13 city rating - no matter how I drive it. In my opinion, excellent gas mileage for a powerful 4X4 truck. By the way, I only have 8,000 miles on it and the engine feels like it is still tight and breaking-in.

Before I decided to take my f150xlt v8 to the ford dealer because of massive vibrating between 55-95mph (and slight vibration between 40-45) I decided to take the advice from one of my respondends and have the truck realigned. I paid 60.00 for a realignment and spin balance....WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! The mechanic said that everyone of my tires were out of balance and new weights had to be put on. Every bit of the vibration between 55-95 mph has now stopped (and boy am I happy about that). I still have the slight vibration between 40-45 mph. This vibration does not come from the steering wheel at all, it comes throughout the truck. I read where two other people here have the same scenario. One person said the ford dealer was going to put a muffler vibration dampner on their truck...I wonder if that solved the problem. If anyone else has words of wisdom on the 40-45mph vibration please share.
  • modvptnlmodvptnl Member Posts: 1,352
Congrats on your fix. My dealer has always done the first alignment no charge before 12000 miles, I've never asked about balancing tires. But for $60 to have it done with aint too bad. Good luck on the other vibe. Has anyone checked U joints or if it has any,CV joints? Sometimes they can cause a hum or vibration.
  • troyv1troyv1 Member Posts: 1
I purchased a 1999 F150 suppercab in August. so far I have had three of the tires replaced for being out of round. I get vibrations from 36-44 MPH. worse at 41-42 mph. My dealer has no fix. The Ford Field Service Engineer out of the Ford Customer Service Center, Regional Office in Atlanta, Ga has driven the truck. He stated that vibration repair in the F150 series is a "black art". My dealer's service manager has a 1999 F150 with the same problem, he has been unable to correct the problem with his is own truck. Plus he said he had a 1997 with the same problem. I have found one other owner with same vib. My opinion is that Ford has a design problem with this truck and I have taken my complaint to the Dispute Settlement Board. If you own a F150,drive it steady at 41-42 mph, if it vibrates contact your dealer, if anyone comes up with a fix, I'd like to know, I really like the truck and if it can be fixed I would opt to keep it. The vib is not the tires it vibs through out the truck

Thanks for the info, I found the 99 pricing. I'm also looking at a 2000 XLT SuperCab. I see there is a Dealer Incentive of $950 on all 2000 "light duty" trucks (until 12/1/99), if the dealer is asking roughly $300 over invoice is it safe to assume this is the real reason? He would receive the 950, the 300 and the 3% holdback (not bad for a truck which shipped 9/24)(according to the dora) Should I expect to do better on the price? Any comments are welcome.

From what I understand there is no differnce between a Windsor and a Romeo engine except for their orgin. One is built in Windsor and the other in Romeo Mich. Their specs should be identical. I'm not for sure but I think the HP is 240 for the 2000 4.6.

Ford offers a $750 rebate on the 1999 F150's through 12/01/99. Unless I can buy my truck today or tomorrow I'll probably miss out on this rebate. But I'm wondering if they will offer another program come 12/2/99 seeing as the 2000 trucks are pricing less than the 99's. Does anyone have any experience or insight on this? (a crystal ball would be nice)

Just after I picked up my new 1999 F-150 4X4 off-road package with the 17 inch tires, I noticed that the tires looked like they had been rebalanced. The truck had no miles on it and the dealer had already done the rebalance before I drove it. It had a slight shimmy under 50 mph - not enough for me to worry about. It ran nice and smooth on the highway all the way to 90 mph and that was what was important to me. When I had the tires rotated, the shimmy went away. It had to be the tires. I have been through this over and over especially with 4X4 trucks and just about every brand of tire.

Can't give any insight on the 99s, but I just picked up my 2000 (after a 14 week wait!) and there is a $500 rebate on 2000s. The 5.9% 60 month financing is also available through the first of the year.

if your wholly set on Courtesy, you can contact "Easa" (pronounced ee-saa) he's fleet Mgr. for O'Mera Ford on 104th. He sold me my 99 f-250 sd 4x2 v-10 for 1,000 under invoice. you may not get the same deal, but he's not shy about being up front with the dealer cost ect. My sticker was 27,400 i picked it up for 23,300 (before tax tags ect) A pleasure to do business with no preasure, nodda. Just an option if you deside to shop around, it will at least give you a name instead of walking on the lot cold turkey. (I got my figures from adding up all the options listed on EDMUND'S at invoice cost then subtracted that from my actual cost. Did not factor dealer hold back ect. But i was happy to get 4,100 off MSRP

Any suggestions?.......I will probably try and order in the next 3 weeks. Will this guy work with me via fax or email for pricing?

The papers are now saying 1500-2000 below invoice....what do you think about that? Should I be using Edmunds numbers minus this amount?
