I think your dealer has an allocation problem. Haven't heard of any real delays on F-150s. Suggest you check with some other dealers.

I am interested in purchasing a new 2000 F-150 XLT Supercab 139" WB 4x2. I am looking at the following options:

    Trailer/Tow Group - 535
    4.6L V8 - 99W
    5-sp man. trans. - 44M
    3.55 LS Diff. - XH9
    P255/70R16SL Tires - T55
    16" 5-spoke wheels - 646
    Remote entry - 60C
    Floor Mats - 167
    Tonneau cover - 86T
    SR window - 433

I am currently shopping around several dealerships . What is a good price for this truck from the dealer? My research says an invoice of $21,400, and since it has to be ordered, the dealer will pocket the holdback of about $750. Are there any dealer incentives I should be aware about? I was thinking of pushing for $21,000 + TT&T. Anyone else have a similar truck they can share pricing experiences about?

On the 2001 supercabs does anybody know about the engine block heater option and how it works also how does the truck ride when you get the towing package with the heavy duty shocks?
  • richardh45richardh45 Member Posts: 10
The dealer should have secured those remotes that came with the vehicle when it was checked-in. It was their fault that the remotes were misplaced.
    A. You can go back and just give up the remotes. They will be out the labor that they paid the mechanic to program them.
    B. You can go back and offer to split the cost of the remotes and the labor. That will cover their actual expenses and you will have honest possession of all four remotes. (That should run about $75.)
    C. You can keep your mouth shut, keep the remotes and live with your dishonesty.
    Make your choice.

Seriously, I hope you enjoy your truck. I hope to get a SuperCrew soon.

I am looking at purchasing a 2000 F-150 supercab XLT and am debating between the 4.6 and the 5.4 liter engines. Does anyone have any remarks or comments on either of these engines.
  • smcpherrsmcpherr Member Posts: 114
I've actually owned both, the 4.6 in a '97, and the 5.4 in my '99 I have now. Some may disagree with me, but my feelings on them are...

4.6 - Good engine, plenty of pep as long as your not looking for a sportscar. I used it to move twice, once was from LA to Nebraska. The bed was fully loaded, mostly with books, and the 12' Uhaul I had behind it was packed with furniture. Very heavily loaded. The 4.6 handled it fine, even through the mountains in Colorado. No lack of power. Never noticed the weight was back there. Decent fuel mileage for a truck, usually 16-20 mpg in town. Had it for three years, never caused a problem.

5.4 - Also a very good engine. Kinda feels like a brute compared to the 4.6. Not really faster, I guess, but it feels like I could rip a house off its frame without too much trouble. Moved once with it, Nebraska to Wisconsin, same load, and it pulled it well. Had it for a year now, very good engine. Mileage usually 14-17 in town.

Basically, either engine is a good choice. They both have plenty of power, decently fast and get pretty good mpg. If you don't need the extra power and are not going to be racing it, go with the 4.6. Unless you want the extra power, of course. You'll be happy with either.

That's about the best summary I've heard on the merits of the two V8's! Of course, we could add one more thing for everyone out there: whatever you do buy your F150 with a V8 if you can possibly afford it. The V6 may be "adequate," but definitely not inspiring.
  • taglausertaglauser Member Posts: 1
I had to suddenly buy an F150 after a friend accidentally totalled out my last pickup. He's fine, the truck wasn't. I had the complete "best and worst" experience buying a truck you can imagine. I did my research, including reading everything here on what people were paying. I then went to one certain Southern California dealer with my offer. I got every single car-salesman trick in the book, except for plain honesty. After 10 years as an interrogator, I can usually spot a line when I hear it.

Anyway, I went to another dealer who promptly pulled out the dealer invoice and bargained from there. I ended up with an XLT extended cab SB 5.4L tow-package etc and so forth for the price of the original dealers standard-cab 4.6L nothing added XL. If you are looking to buy a Ford in Southern California, Cal Worthington Ford is a good place to go.

I've had the truck two weeks and put 700 miles on it already. There has only been one problem - prying it away from my wife!

We have two 1999 F-150 XL PU's, one is a Sport Flareside (son drives this one) the other a styleside (work truck). The Sport has the V6, enough engine to get him to work and back, I have the 4.6L V8. Both the V6 and V8 handle the San Diego mountain grades very well with no problems. Another son drives a 97 Ford Ranger and my wife a 2001 Explorer Sport Trac. My youngest son says he's wants a F-150 next year (1988 Toyota is his). If you want something with a little more pep, the SVT Lightning F-150 is available. Unfortunately, the standard cab is the only model available.

As a fellow So. Cal resident who is in the market for a new truck and is leaning towards a Ford... could you share with me the dearlership that played the head games with you so I know where NOT to go. If you don't want to do this publicly for fear of being called a 'dealer basher', you may email me.

Also, what was the name of the salesman at CalWorthington's place??? I'd like to look that one up and use you as a reference of sorts...

    Thanks.

Can anyone advise me on how to get an employee price on a Ford as a Volvo employee? Since Ford owns VCNA I think the employee discount should be applicable. Thanks.

Can any one give me advise on which axil I should put on my super cab flairside with 4.6 V8 and reasons why?
Anybody know where I can find out what are the new incentives being offered?
    Thanks in advance
  • g8trg8tr Member Posts: 77
I'm assuming you mean rear end gear ratios. I personally like the 3.55 rear end w/ the limited slip. You will get reasonable mileage and the limited slip really comes in handy on wet roads or slick boat ramps (or any other situation where you would need some extra traction). This is primarily for 2wd but I believe it is also an option for 4wd models also.

As for the incentives, take a look here in Edmunds under incentives and rebates. It is all listed according to model, etc. Good luck!

I have just looked at this form and did not go all the way through it. I have a 1997 F-150 ext-cab XLT. I love the truck 54,000 miles. Purchased in Dec 98. Still driving on the same tires look to have maybe another 10,000 mi left on them. It is always keeped in the garage at night. I keep it washed and wax about every 4 months. Including the chrome. Just as I have did on all of my truck the last 25 years. The problem I am having is the chrome on the front bumper and the chrome around the grill it is getting thin in spots like their wasn't enough chrome applied. I have never had this problem before. This is really disapponting just started noticing it last fall. Was out of warantey because of milage so haven't showed the dealer. Has anyone else noticing this problem? I was planning on keeping the truck another 3 to 4 years. Can't imagine how bad it will be looking by then.
Thanks for any help on this.

Why wouldn't you make the purchase the 5.4 engine is a much better for towing and hauling than toyota's 4.7.

Interested in the new f150 supercrew 4x4 lariet. Not much information at this point, does anyone have one and what is the pro-con, other then the short box. Have not driven, not may dealers have product on lot.

I got to drive a Super Crew yesterday. There were about 8 to choose from on my local dealers lot. Rode very nice for a truck. Handled well, lots of room in the rear seat area. All together it is a very nice truck. I just wish they had some of the options available on a GM. Dual power seats, a rear window defroster, heated leather seats, a little better stereo and most of all, the full time four wheel drive system Auto-Trac. I would recommend the larger V-8 though. The one my wife and I drove was underpowered. It may be better with the 3.55's but I think I would still get the bigger 8.

I'm in the market to buy an F-150, and I'm looking for a black XLT extended cab, flare side, 4x4, V8. I live in the Cincinnati, Ohio area and I would like to know if anyone has had a good experience with a particular dealer in this area. Most dealers want to haggle with me, especially because I'm a woman and they assume that I don't know that they're trying to pull the wool over my eyes. I've done a lot of research, but I want to know what the market is supporting at this time. What in reality should I pay for this vehicle? Please help. I'm just looking for a good deal like everyone else.
  • barlitzbarlitz Member Posts: 752
Its sounds like a very nice truck you are looking for,go to a place like carpoint and price the truck you want with options it will give you msrp and dealers invoice and then search for rebates, edmunds also has all that info here then offer them dealers invoice and then also deduct any rebate if available.I've sat in dealers for hours but eventually get it at my price.
  • alwysl8alwysl8 Member Posts: 59
topic - What doors do you have cracks in?

nenabana - use auto-by-tel. I have always gotten everything at $100.00 over invoice or less.

I am in the market for a 2001 Supercrew 4x4 Lariat which comes with 17" wheels. Since I do go off road, does anyone know what the ground clearance is on these vehicles? Interestlingly enough, Ford is about the only manufacturer that does not list this info under specifications. Please help. This vehicle is a beauty but I need some free space. Our local dealer does not have one in stock otherwise I would measure it myself.

Prepared to buy 2001 F-150 Crew Cab XLT with options...limited slip, bed extender and Class III towing package. I did not have success with Autobytel or the Carpoint buying services and limited success with local dealers. I searched for various dealers in the dealer search portion of the Ford.com site. Send out numerous request to internet sales managers at these dealers within 250 miles and have gotten good response. Right now the best price offers are for $300 over dealer invoice. Two questions for anyone with experience.... how difficult was it to get the dealer down to $100 over invoice and what is the gas mileage on the 5.4 liter engine, if I choose to add that option. Plan to finalize deal within the next week so help is really appreciated!!

anyone notice that the brochure/and some magazine road test vehicles have a center arm rest/cupholder for rear seat passengers?? were these pre-production photos or what?
  • zsharkzshark Member Posts: 3
The rear seat arm rest is identical to the backseat of the expedition. It is on all the Super Crews I have seen and I have been looking at them closely for the last two months. Had a chance to use one for three days as my expedition was in for warranty work - loaner vehicle.
  • alwysl8alwysl8 Member Posts: 59
Does anyone know if the bed extender for the
SuperCrew will be available soon? I hate to order
a truck to only have it held up because of the bed
    extender.

Just to let everyone know the rear windows in the ford f150 supercab have a defect in the workmanship. If your plastic trim around your window warps from the cab it is a warrantee item. I was told by my dealer that it is a big problem ford has and they have replaced several of them this will cause leaking around the window. Keep an eye on your rear window. fyi

Sounds like a nice rig. As for the hard tonneau cover, give A.R.E. a serious look. I just got one for my F150 and it looks real nice. The limited lifetime warranty on the structure and paint is nice also. Good luck!
  • dr700dr700 Member Posts: 2
Which dealer? I am in milwaukee and I have a 98 F150 SC Flareside which is about due for trade. I have been considering the supercrew and the expedition...sounds like your price is great. let me know as I would order one from there if the price is still good.

Was at my local Toys for Trucks Store today. I even dragged my wife in later. I am going to get the LSII hard tonneau with the sport wing on the back and the soft liner inside (never know when I might have to live back there). The only thing I can't decide on is whether to get a full Pendaliner, or just go with a rubber mat and a Pendaliner cover for the tailgate. I don't plan on hauling a lot of heavy duty material. I saw a cool product called the Bedrug today. It's basically a Pendaliner made out of foam and marine grade carpeting. It is rather expensive at $400.00. I think I will also get a color matched bug deflector for the front end.
  • g8trg8tr Member Posts: 77
That is the same lid I have except I did not get the sport wing. The color matches nicely. As for the inside, I simply took a sheet of 5/8" particle board and cut the scrap to fit around the wheel wells. I then got a piece of pretty good quality indoor/outdoor carpet (dark green to match the truck) and it looks nice. That way if something spills on the carpet, I can get another piece without having to pay $$$. I do a lot of fishing so sometimes the fish cooler will leak and so it's off to Home Depot for replacement bed materials.

I'm still debating the bug deflector. However, when the love bugs (a real nuisance in Fla.) get going, I'll probably want one.

One other thing. If you go to their website www.are.com they have a $20 coupon. Not much but it'll take care of the beer tab for a little while.

re: warped plastic on F-150 Supercab rear window...

More information please... My 1990 F-150 Super's rear window leaks - though only in VERY heavy rain or at the carwash. Does this problem go all the way back to '90 models, and would I be covered? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello F150 folks, I just bought a beautiful '98 F-150 Lariat SuperCab with the 5.4V8. This truck has the factory towing package (frame hitch and coolers), but how do I verify which rear end is in the truck? Can you tell by the VIN? I know that the Chevy trucks have a sticker in the glove box that lists EVERY option on the truck, anything like this on the trucks with the blue oval?
  • g8trg8tr Member Posts: 77
You can look on the differential and there should be a metal tag that has the rear end ratio. Mine has 3LS55 or 355LS because I have the 3.55 limited slip.

    Also, check www.F150online.com
They have a tremendous amount of info. Take a look at that differential and let us know what you find.

To my understanding the proble only exsist with the 97-2000 truck the redid the style of rear window my sugestion would be to look at one of the newer truck rear windows to get an idea of the style. If you have the standard ruber gasket around your window that is a different style. The new style has a plastic type seal that is between the cab and the glass the plastic seperates from the cab. Hope this helps.

I have a 1997 F-150 ext cab. 55,000 miles. This is my 3rd ford truck. Have always been happy with thier trucks. Read about the cracks on the doors by the window. Went out to look at mine and I have a crack starting it is about 3/8" long. I am upset about this as I am sure it is going to get a lot worse. I went to two local Ford dealerships. Both had about a dozen 97 -99 f-150s on the lot. Almost every truck I looked at had this problem to some degree. A couple looked like they tried to put some touch up paint on to hide it. There was rust starting on one of them. I called the Ford customer service and told them about my truck and the ones that I saw at the Ford dealership. They said they had never heard about any problems with their doors. And since I had 55,000 miles on mine their was nothing they could do about it. Now I have to decide on a competitor and I really don't like any of them. I was hoping to keep this truck another 4 or 5 years. Does anyone else have this delimma.
  • g8trg8tr Member Posts: 77
    Please check www.f150online.com
There are several discussion on this site relating to the door cracks. Some people have had new doors to replace the cracked ones but the new ones will also eventually crack. Ford is supposed to having a fix out soon that puts a brace inside the door.
Check out the above site. I hope it helps.

I have had mine for 2 weeks... about 700 miles.

    Someone asked Gas Mileage...
5.4l with limited slip 3.55 axle and 17" wheels
I am getting 15.4 mpg highway and in town.

    Someone asked about cup holders...
There is a flip down arm rest with cup holders
in the back seat... I think its like the expedition.

    Someone else asked about clearance...
    I will measure at lunch.

I love this truck... its very nice.

    Hello,
We own a 1990 F-150XLT and it hasn't given us any major problems until very recently. I had started experiencing some hesitation when pressing on the gas. I changed out the fuel filter and it was a little dirty. The hesitation continued. The back tank register float had gone out so we decided the have both tanks dropped and cleaned and the float replaced. Neither tank showed any wear and were both very clean. The hesitation continued, the fuel filter was changed again, injectors were cleaned, and the fuel pump that was showing wear was also changed out. It's still happening. The fuel lines were blown out and it didn't do anything to help. Anyone out there having the same problem? Help. It currently has 120000 miles on it which is right in line with 12,000 a year.
